My shrimp tacos were yummy and my husband's enchiladas were some of the best that I have tasted - their mole sauce was delicious with a nice depth of flavor. We went to Old Town LQ to find a place with good food, vegan options, and drinks. We were looking at the outside menu when a very animated gentleman came out and shouted at us, "BEST MARGARITAS IN TOWN!" Well, I guess we need to try this out! We chose inside, and the ambiance was nice, but it was stuffy. We asked the server to turn on the ceiling fans that were just sitting idle. The dining room was a bit more comfortable with them turned on. My wife ordered one of the "best margaritas in town." It arrived with a 60% ice content, nearly zero tequila, and the 'salted' rim looked like it had been dry-dipped in regular table salt. The flavor was 'meh.' We seriously could have gone over to Grocery Outlet and drank margarita mix straight from a bottle with a salt packet chaser and it would have been better. I ordered a 'Bloody Maria,' which is a Bloody Mary with tequila in place of vodka. It was delicious and quite spicy, which I love, but, alas, again, the alcohol was barely present. My wife ordered a mango salad, and she said it was bland, and could barely stand to eat it. I had the 'Crispy Avocado Tacos,' and found them to be very tasty, and, honestly, something I've never heard of before. Avocados breaded and deep-fried, and served in corn tortillas with pico de gallo. The Spanish rice was fluffy and tasty, and the refried beans seemed very similar to 'Rosarita' canned refried beans, but like the store-bought one, was palatable because it was hot. I finished my food as my wife was trying to get through that bland salad, and a server came over and pointed at my plate and said, "Are you done with that?" Not, "May I take that for you?" or, "Still working on that?" It seemed like I was at my sister's house and she was rushing me out. I once learned from a restaurant manager at La Quinta Resort's Adobe Grill, when I worked security there, that, "When a couple are dining together, a server should NEVER offer to take one of the couple's plate until both are finished, because it makes the other person feel rushed or uncomfortable." Every QUALITY restaurant I have ever dined at has followed this standard. This wait staff should be better trained in server etiquette. Their lack of experience and training is causing them to look bad and it is embarrassing this establishment. Another thing to note is that one of the expediters was sweeping the floors in the dining room WHILE customers were dining - kicking up bits of debris from the floor. This is not only very unsanitary, it is off-putting because one has to wonder why the floors were not swept prior to opening. All-in-all, this restaurant is trying very hard, but as they say, "You can't make a silk purse out of a pig's ear." They have a long way to go if they want to get this right. The fact that leadership responds to most of the reviews is a good start. I would ask that they do not respond to my review, because it is superfluous unless they intend to make real changes. The two stars were earned because my food and drink were acceptable. But I would NOT recommend this restaurant. Then - over a MONTH LATER, the owner responds after I asked him NOT to. Another chance? Came here with a couple gfs specifically for happy hour. We started off with drinks, chips, & salsa . When ordering a drink our server looked extra hard at our ID's which we thought was kinda funny but hey at least they check. The drink prices are decent here & good tasting but we were displeased with having to pay for chips and salsa:( The salsa was missing some spice and maybe salt, could be improved and maybe bigger portion since you're paying for them. I ordered the ceviche tostadas (forgot to take a pic) but wow! So good was very pleased with them. We also got the rice and beans on the side, very small portion but the Mexican rice was SO good!!! One of my gfs got a chorizo sope, she said it was very flavorful and spicy. I would've had a more accurate review on the food but we weren't even allowed to be seated. On Saturday, 2:30pm I took my mother in law all the way from Maryland to TQLAS to enjoy the "best" of old town La Quinta on the outdoor patio-- however upon asking for outdoor seating we were ask what we were going to order and we mentioned drinks and appetizers. "Oh the outdoor seats are reserved for full service and you can go inside to the bar." My mother in law reminded the hostess she wanted to enjoy the ambience and order drinks outside. The hostess again said no you cannot-- meanwhile there were multiple open tables. I just think it's weird-- didn't seem to ask everyone what they planned on eating before they seated them. Anyways, just super annoying and sad they turned away customers because we weren't going to "buy" enough. Who knows, we could've enjoyed enough and e ended up ordering full plates. Needed to ask for salsa. Had to ask for water refills. Our entrees took about an hour after we waited about 30 min for our appetizers and drinks. The server came by and said all okay here!? And we said, are the entrees near? He said your dinner hasn't come yet? And then went in to find out. It came out about 15 min later. Perhaps he neglected to put in our order?
