Cacio e Pepe: this version uses bucatini and is a little creamier than the classic. I ate it all regardless. Grilled Avocado: the name ignores that it includes fried artichokes as well. Satisfying and not too garlicky. Another large portion. The only disappointing item was the Polenta -- a little bland. If you get the Chicken Parm, you only need a half portion. They were so good, that we ended up ordering a second round. For dinner, we all ordered the steak with mushrooms and broccoli. The steak was perfectly cooked, and every bite was bursting with flavor. We arrived early for our reservation, excited to grab a drink at the bar before dinner. Then we were told our table was already available... only to be seated at a dining table in the bar, off to the side, where apparently servers do not exist while staring at the back of the pianist and the barflies. The two bartenders were fantastic--especially Brian, who was working at warp speed--but they already had a packed bar to manage. Adding dining tables to their workload was clearly not realistic. Why were we seated there? Still a mystery. Reservation problems: I booked through the QR code advertised in The Gem for the August prix fixe dinners at La Quinta Resort's restaurants. When we arrived, we were told the prix fixe menu wasn't available that day. Sorry! So we ordered bread and oysters instead. About 15-20 minutes later, the manager came over and said they would honor the prix fixe after all. Great! Except... we'd already ordered appetizers. ‍ And wow, was it SLOW. We were seated at 5:30 and still didn't have our entrées at 7:00. Drinks regularly sat empty, and once the restaurant got busy around 6:30, water refills disappeared completely. Did I mention it was 110 degrees outside? The food? A mixed bag--but overall, wildly overpriced and underwhelming. * Oysters: Ice-cold and served with a good mignonette. Also pricey. * Bread: Fresh and warm, but the olive tapenade was aggressively salty. Again, overpriced. * Watermelon salad: The winner! Refreshing, flavorful, and the spicy nuts gave it a nice kick. Highly recommend. * Chicken cacciatore: Dry chicken, undercooked tomatoes, overcooked pasta. Never again. * Oscar filet: Delicious and well-prepared, but nothing memorable or special--especially for the price. Bottom line: We spent about $400 for a frustrating, painfully slow, mostly mediocre meal. There are too many great restaurants in the area to spend that kind of money on "meh." We won't be back.

I recently visited TQLAS, excited to try the place under its new ownership, but unfortunately, I left disappointed. The ceviche, which I was eager to try, lacked flavor and didn't live up to expectations--it might have been the worst I've ever had. Similarly, the trio fajitas were a letdown with tough meat, dry chicken, and rubbery, unseasoned shrimp. On a brighter note, the margaritas and Palomas were average, not bad but nothing standout. I'm sharing this feedback not out of dissatisfaction alone, but in hopes that it can be constructive. I believe with some attention to the seasoning and preparation of the dishes, there's a great potential for improvement. A tweak in the kitchen could really turn things around and help TQLAS live up to the excitement of new management. I look forward to giving TQLAS another try in the future and seeing how it evolves. Our waiter was extremely rude and unprofessional, making us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable throughout the meal. Simple questions about the menu were met with dismissive and impatient responses, and the overall attitude was completely unacceptable for a hospitality environment. Where do I begin? We got there and were immediately attended by the server. We asked for recommendations and were really satisfied by our selections. I had the wet burrito in red sauce, man I was blown away by the deliciousness and quality of that plate. My friends had the chipotle shrimp tacos which were filled with a lot of flavor in other words they were prestine, from the tortilla to the sauce, mouth watering tacos. Came back to find out the place was under new owners, and was hesitant...but OMG if I liked it before now I love it, from the great ambiance to the welcoming staff. we had been wanting to dive into the tequila & mezcal world but had no clue where to start. the bartender Omar had some great recommendations to start with, sold me on the oaxac old fashioned and it was amazing, the manager stopped by to check on us and was nice enough to answer all the questions we had about tequila and mezcal, we were amazed about how much this guy knew and how much he enjoyed explaining it. its not really common to see people as dedicated as these guys here, trust me if you have a chance go visit this place read more

Came back to find out the place was under new owners, gave it a shot since it couldn't have possibly gotten worse.....but OMG what a difference, food was amazing, the staff we saw the only time we came before was visibly happy and super friendly, first time we felt bad for them because saw the way the old owners treated them, but now you could feel the good vibe, I love it. We obviously had to try some tequila, the manager stopped by and recommended a tequila based on what flavors we wanted, came back with two different ones and i was surprised when he was spot on and knew exactly what to bring. With my family being of Mexican descent, I thought this place would not disappoint. I was totally right! It was wonderful! The food was so delicious, as everything tasted homemade. Went to Tqlas while strolling through Old Town La Quinta with my mom and sister. Thinking we would have a quick snack and beverage and then continue our stroll we ended up staying much longer because it was such a great atmosphere, service and food. Truly the most best 5 star experience I've ever had to be completely honest I would give it a 7 diamond experience wonderful service a truly wonderful ownership and by far the best food I've ever had in Mexican food. The margaritas and the guac we ordered were both delicious, but the service wasn't as great. The bartender seemed to interact the most with people he knew, possibly regulars, and his co-workers. First visit and things didn't go smoothly but the staff was friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to make up for it. The food was yummy, except the macaroni and cheese coming out of the kitchen cold, and the cocktails were spot on. The food was very underwhelming and nothing was very impressive in taste. I got a shredded beef taco plate and felt like the beef and beans tasted a day old. The best part of the dish was the rice and fresh lettuce and cheese. Everyone did think their food was ok or good, no one was wowed or waiting to come back. The drinks however were great and made to perfection. There was a lot of waiting in between but that was expected since they were probably not prepared to open the other side of the restaurant. They did their best and we enjoyed our time there and had a good time besides the food not hitting. The restaurant had fun decor and vibes so they do have that going for them.

I saw all the favorable reviews on Yelp and was looking forward to my first visit at Casa Mendoza. Very chill & lively family owned Mexican joint in Old Town LQ. The place was kinda busy @6:30pm on Hump Night ~~ always a great sign when I see this. Felt more like a Sunday Evening. It took an hour to receive our meals. Ordered @6:45 arrived @7:45pm. Good thing the Chimichanga & Gauc apps arrived pretty quickly. The Gauc was Excellente. All their food was very good. But all our meals arrived cold/lukewarm. Took forever to receive our food and we knew for a fact it's because all our plates sat a while until we were served. The actual plates weren't even warm and the sizzling fajitas had sizzled out and lost its dazzle. Because it was still 95 degrees when dinner was finally served, our lukewarm meals were doable on a hot night. Everyone did enjoy their meals tho. I was very pleased with my Mahi Mahi in Garlic Butter Sauce. The refried beans were outstanding. The rice very good...and I made tacos with the 3 corn tortillas. But would have enjoyed it even more had all the food been a little warmer. I stuck with H2O but all margarita drinkers said their drinks were good and hit the spot on a warm night. The service in general was also inconsistent for our small party of 8. The Birthday Boy was a little frustrated and got up a few times from his throne seeking assistance -- such as missing tortillas for meals, water refills, extra napkins. We even had to wait longer than anticipated for them to acknowledge the bday boy with a celebratory bday song & sombrero...and the fried ice cream, which didn't include a candle. Tho we all enjoyed ourselves and time together...a 2 hour dinner at a Mexican joint on a Wednesday night wasn't what we anticipated. Especially with one restless 7 year old ;-) But everyone working at Casa Mendoza is very friendly with great attitudes. Hostess team, waiters, servers & runners too. So that made up for the spotty service, just a little bit. Since I'm closer to the other Casa Mendoza in Palm Desert, I'd go there in the future with my wife, and order the exact same thing. But hope for much better service and warmer food.
