Most açai places are loaded with sugar. Delicious, happiness, making sugar! But this offering was so, SO good I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything by coming here. Service was friendly and laid back. Each bowl is constructed by hand, made customizable however you like it. That does take a bit of time, so plan a few extra minutes to wait in line, and treat yourself to one of their delicious bowls. There is no seating inside, but there's communal seating outside. There's also plenty of parking in the lot shared amongst the different shops.

It's located in the same plaza as Stater Bros on Central & Palos Verde. You could easily miss it unless you venture deep into the plaza. I was pleasantly greeted by Francisco & met the young lady who prepared my drinks. He was very pleasant & forthcoming with info. I inquired what they used to make the drink & showed me their commercial cold press juicer in the back. I had opted to get the All Green juice: celery, spinach, kale, partially, cucumber, and green apple. And for my 2nd drink, I only wanted just pure celery. It took a few minutes & I took pictures while I waited. There are about 4 sets of tables with matching 4 chairs per table. Just the way I preferred, no ice but the drinks were cool, all filled to the brim. I tasted both were very good & so refreshing. I feel healthy already LOL. They offer other item like smoothies, chicken salad & sandwiches. I think they do crepes too. Will surely return to try other items on the menu. I am interested in their coffee/latte boost

I was kind of expecting it to be like a root beer float with it in a cup but they actually mixed in the Sunkist with the yogurt, Cold Stone style, which was interesting to watch. It also came with (fresh?) strawberries and pineapple. The only downside is due to the heat of the soda, when I got the bowl, a nice portion of it was melted. You could taste the Sunkist in the yogurt but the pineapple did overpower things. Service was good. There was only one woman working but she made sure to give attention to everyone and worked hard. The price wasn't bad as it was only $15 or so for both items. I just wish the yogurt didn't melt as fast and they had room to sit inside. The place did seem pretty cluttered and compact. Overall, I'd probably go back to try out another flavor and mix.

The location is great, and they've done an awesome job utilizing the space. There are plenty of seating options, making it a great place to meet up with friends, work, or just hang out. I'm especially looking forward to seeing what they do with the patio. The customer service was excellent. Pauline was incredibly kind, and everyone else I interacted with was just as welcoming. You can tell they're excited to be there, and it creates a really inviting atmosphere. I tried three drinks: the Passion Fruit Guava Matcha, the Mango Sticky Rice Matcha, and the Peach Cobbler coffee. Both matchas had a beautiful vibrant color, and the quality of the ingredients was evident. My one recommendation would be to order the matchas half sweet. The fruit flavors, especially in the Passion Fruit Guava Matcha, and the sweetness of the Mango Sticky Rice Matcha tended to overpower the matcha itself. I would have loved for the earthy matcha flavor to shine through a little more, and I think ordering them half sweet would create a better balance. The Peach Cobbler coffee was a fun and unique take on a flavored coffee. It was well executed, and you can definitely taste the quality of the espresso. Overall, Lontra is a fantastic addition to downtown Upland. Between the welcoming staff, inviting space, and quality coffee, I'll definitely be back to work my way through more of the menu.

First visit wasn't a great introduction. I got a cold brew that had a pretty bitter, burnt flavor. It got better once the ice melted and watered it down a bit, but that's not exactly how you want your first cup to go. My wife got the matcha, which was also a miss. I figured it was a new location, so we gave it another shot. A couple of weeks later, I stopped in shortly after opening on a Sunday. I was greeted by more "good mornings" from the other customers than the staff. The workers seemed nice, just pretty low energy. The music was also fairly loud punk rock, which I'd expect down the way at RAD, but not necessarily at 7am at Lontra. That may just be my own expectation of the vibe. I gave the matcha another shot and asked for double matcha this time. It was still a very light green and tasted more like milk than matcha. I also tried their yuzu Thai basil espresso tonic. I love a good espresso tonic and was happy to see they use Fever-Tree, but the syrup was way too sweet and completely overpowered the drink. Definitely should have just ordered it plain. Third time was the charm. I went with a plain espresso tonic, and it was a much better experience. I do wish there was a larger size option, I would've paid more. The cup seemed to be around 10-12 oz. This visit was also a completely different service experience. Peter was running the place pretty much as a one-man army, but was very attentive to the guest ahead of me and just as helpful when it was my turn. He even took the time to tell me about the award-winning roasters they use, which gave me a little more appreciation for what they're trying to do here. I'd probably visit again. The specialty drink combinations sound fun, but based on my three visits, I'll probably stick with a plain espresso tonic or try an Americano next time. I'm still not convinced this is a place where the coffee comes first, but the third visit showed me there's definitely something here worth checking out.

My friend had the Mike's Favorite and said for the price it was very full and had a lot going on. He liked the quality of ingredients! I also agree that they're very generous with the portions The caramel latte was very sweet, but still good :) The last times I had come here during COVID era, the owners were very sociable and friendly! I missed them, and am happy to see they're still doing well! The interior seating is pretty limited and there's only one outdoor seat that sits in the sun, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue as sandwiches are pretty quick to eat! No public restroom tho

The flavor was a little flat and didn't have that rich, smooth matcha taste I usually look for. The spot itself has a cool vibe and the staff were friendly, so I'd be open to coming back and trying something else. Just probably wouldn't order the matcha again.
