I stopped by Lontra Coffee after they opened in downtown Upland, and I'm excited to have a spot like this in the area. The location is great, and they've done an awesome job utilizing the space. There are plenty of seating options, making it a great place to meet up with friends, work, or just hang out. I'm especially looking forward to seeing what they do with the patio. The customer service was excellent. Pauline was incredibly kind, and everyone else I interacted with was just as welcoming. You can tell they're excited to be there, and it creates a really inviting atmosphere. I tried three drinks: the Passion Fruit Guava Matcha, the Mango Sticky Rice Matcha, and the Peach Cobbler coffee. Both matchas had a beautiful vibrant color, and the quality of the ingredients was evident. My one recommendation would be to order the matchas half sweet. The fruit flavors, especially in the Passion Fruit Guava Matcha, and the sweetness of the Mango Sticky Rice Matcha tended to overpower the matcha itself. I would have loved for the earthy matcha flavor to shine through a little more, and I think ordering them half sweet would create a better balance. The Peach Cobbler coffee was a fun and unique take on a flavored coffee. It was well executed, and you can definitely taste the quality of the espresso. Overall, Lontra is a fantastic addition to downtown Upland. Between the welcoming staff, inviting space, and quality coffee, I'll definitely be back to work my way through more of the menu. read more

Tried Lontra three times since it opened. I had pretty high hopes going in after following them online and seeing the buzz around this location and their LA spot. First visit wasn't a great introduction. I got a cold brew that had a pretty bitter, burnt flavor. It got better once the ice melted and watered it down a bit, but that's not exactly how you want your first cup to go. My wife got the matcha, which was also a miss. I figured it was a new location, so we gave it another shot. A couple of weeks later, I stopped in shortly after opening on a Sunday. I was greeted by more "good mornings" from the other customers than the staff. The workers seemed nice, just pretty low energy. The music was also fairly loud punk rock, which I'd expect down the way at RAD, but not necessarily at 7am at Lontra. That may just be my own expectation of the vibe. I gave the matcha another shot and asked for double matcha this time. It was still a very light green and tasted more like milk than matcha. I also tried their yuzu Thai basil espresso tonic. I love a good espresso tonic and was happy to see they use Fever-Tree, but the syrup was way too sweet and completely overpowered the drink. Definitely should have just ordered it plain. Third time was the charm. I went with a plain espresso tonic, and it was a much better experience. I do wish there was a larger size option, I would've paid more. The cup seemed to be around 10-12 oz. This visit was also a completely different service experience. Peter was running the place pretty much as a one-man army, but was very attentive to the guest ahead of me and just as helpful when it was my turn. He even took the time to tell me about the award-winning roasters they use, which gave me a little more appreciation for what they're trying to do here. I'd probably visit again. The specialty drink combinations sound fun, but based on my three visits, I'll probably stick with a plain espresso tonic or try an Americano next time. I'm still not convinced this is a place where the coffee comes first, but the third visit showed me there's definitely something here worth checking out. read more

I Drove by this coffee shop in downtown Upland on my way to brunch with friends. It was formerly Lucky's Coffee Roasters, so I was surprised to see a new name and, of course, had to stop in and check it out afterward. Cute little spot with delicious drinks and pretty flowers on all the tables and counters, which gave the space a nice, homey touch. They had a fun summer menu, but I went with a more classic iced latte with brown sugar and cinnamon, and it was tasty! The barista was a joy and provided great service. The space is on the smaller side, though, and it did get pretty loud once more customers came in. I liked the setup and enjoyed my drink, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's a place I'd hang out for hours. Overall, a cute new addition to downtown Upland with good drinks and friendly service. Lontra Coffee had a reel on Instagram advertising their Grand Opening for August 8th! So, of course, we attend their grand opening which lasted about 3 hours. We were only inside for about 20 minutes due to the immersive amount of people inside. Parking is available from on the street or in the parking lot located behind the cafe. We walked around the block, and found the shop's sign outside. Once we went inside, we found the line snaked around the shop, towards the back. Before standing in line, we had taken free Photo Booth photos (normally $7) , as part of their grand opening. We stood in line, and it didn't take long to get towards the front. At the front, their cashier pleasantly greeted us. We ordered a mango sticky latte and a Yuzu Thai Basil tonic. With our drinks, per the cashier's recommendation, we also ordered a chorizo meat pie. We stood toward the back end again, waiting for our drinks. The drinks came out and we went back to the photo booth to take photos with our drinks! We left shortly, due to the amount of people and lack of air flow. They had a great turn out for grand opening day, though! My Mango Sticky Latte was sadly full of coconut and not much mango. It was extremely subtle. My fiancé's tonic was a great mix of yuzu and Thai basil. The coffee was decent and you could taste it, although the caffeine intake wasn't intensive. Our meat pie was just okay; it wasn't super special. I think they did quite well for the overwhelming amount of people today. I think this coffee place does beat the nearby ones. If I were to be in the Upland, Montclair, Ontario vicinity, I'd probably bookmark this spot as a place I'd frequent for decent lattes. I can't wait to visit again, when their customer lines settle down a bit! read more

This use to be Lucky's Coffee so I was expecting it to be at that level or even higher. Well, you can't have it all. Sad emoji face in effect. I started off with the Blackberry Orange Espresso Tonic and I tasted more orange flavor than I did the blackberry so that was kinda a miss. My second drink was the Maple Rosemary which had no maple flavor whatsoever and a very subtle hint of rosemary. That leads me to this, more milk than flavor equals what people? Improper ratio plus a weak espresso extraction, Boom. The service was ok and when I asked the barista a couple of questions, she reminded me of the teacher on Ferris Bueller with no kind of pep. I'll give them this though, they do dine in service with a sleek counter space. Hopefully on my trip in they'll have these issues fixed. So in the end I was left like a bee buzzing with one wing. I stopped by Lontra Coffee in the downtown Upland area and had the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Iced Latte. It was really good! I loved that you could actually taste the coffee it wasn't overly sweet, and the brown sugar and cinnamon flavors complemented it really well. Even though it's located in downtown Upland parking wasn't difficult to find which was a nice. The customer service was welcoming and friendly from the moment I walked in. The inside of the shop is nice and clean. I'll definitely be back to try more of their drinks since this latte was so good! read more

Had been anticipating the opening of this coffee shop since the lemon festival was in town. I'm glad to see them being so welcomed into the community. There was a soft opening but I managed to go a few days later. The line was still long, but service moved pretty quickly and it didn't take long to get our drinks after the order was placed. They currently do not have any menu on the wall or to be passed around. You have to wait until you're at the register to see the menu. I do think this would help the line go faster if people knew what they wanted to order before they go to the front, but it's still early days. The staff is incredibly nice. It can get loud in there with all the people inside waiting, so it can be difficult to hear the person at the register. We didn't want to keep the line so we just nodded and placed our order. We opted for a Mango Sticky Rice Matcha Latte and a Orange Vanilla Latte. They did have plenty of seasonal drinks and more reasons to keep coming back to try them all. The place does have some seating but with the long lines, most people were opting to take their drinks to go. Mango Sticky Rice Matcha Latte: this was surprisingly really well balanced. I wasn't sure what to expect but I thought it would be sweeter. It was just the perfect amount of sweetness. The drink had little bits of fruit at the bottom that were a nice surprise. You could still taste the matcha but it was subtle. Presentation was great. Orange Vanilla Latte: I did ask for my drink to be light on the vanilla, and they prepared it perfectly. Also another well balanced drink. My friend really enjoyed the taste of orange in the drink, as did I. They did also have a case of pastries at the register. We didn't get any this time but good to know for future cravings and snacks. Can't wait to try other drinks from their menu. read more

I went to their opening day because I was curious what coffee shop took the place of my previous favorite spot that used to be in this building. The staff was crazy nice and pretty quick making my order considering the insane amount of people there. I got the sticky mango matcha after hearing a ton of people glaze on it--it wasn't bad by any means, but honestly too sweet for my tastes and I wish I tasted the matcha flavor a lil more. I do wonder after reading other reviews if maybe the taste isn't consistent because they were rushed, so I hope to go back and retry it in case it was just a fluke. In any case, I do think this is a great spot! I'll def come back to retry the matcha and their other drinks :) read more

Lontra coffee is amazing. They make their syrups in house and their pineapple matcha is 100/10. They use high quality matcha and their own pineapple syrup. I've never found anything like it elsewhere. Their coffee is great too. I got the latte and my husband got a drip. Both were great. The mango sticky with espresso (on the summer '26 menu) is a must-try! The coffee here is exceptionally good, with a crisp, earthy flavor that won't overwhelm you. Even the sugary drinks maintain a balance of not being too sweet. Plus, it's a bonus that they have their own syrups in-house! Because the prices are a bit steep, I didn't get to indulge in their pastries. However, the croissants looked amazing! The café has a vibrant atmosphere, with a lot of people hanging out inside. They have a unique island/bar-style seating area where you can sit and watch the baristas create their drinks. The service was surprisingly fast, even with a long line. Considering it's a new café, I expected a wait, but having a visible menu would have been helpful, as many customers were unsure of their choices creating a longer wait time. Today we visited the much anticipated Lontra Coffee on 2nd in Downtown Upland. This is in the former location of one of our favorite coffee shops, Lucky's. First, the coffee: I tried an orange vanilla latte- delicious, not too sweet and very tasty. My hubby ordered his standard: iced americano, black. His was smooth, not bitter, but a bit watered down. The shop has potential to be really beautiful inside. Gorgeous tile backdrop on the walls, a beautiful bar to sit at with comfortable, quality mcm stools. Seating was varied and plentiful. The space has bare cement floors causing a loud, echoing area. Throw in a couple screaming toddlers and the room became uncomfortable. Rugs or wall hangings to absorb sound would help reduce the noise issue. Lots of potential! We'll give them another try on a day that's not so busy. read more
