I came to another restaurant in the area so I stopped by I'm not only did they have blue crabs but told me they couldn't cook them because they're closing the machine . I feel as tho an exception should've been made since I got told something different but they stood they're ground. My husband and I had a craving for blue crabs. We happened upon Trader Bay Seafood Company and decided to give them a try. There's plenty of parking too. We were greeted by one of the ladies behind the counter. We ordered a dozen steamed blue crabs. As my husband sat at one of the tables, I began exploring. Trader Bay Seafood offers a wide variety of, fresh from the boat, seafood. You can have them cook for you, you take and cook or buy seafood frozen. Ice cold drinks and ice cream were available too. There were a steady stream of customers, mostly locals and popins like us, all ordering fresh caught fish, crabs, several types of clams, little necks, medium necks as well as large necks. Two huge fresh caught grouper were nestled in icy cradles, just waiting for someone to buy them. Smoked mullet, snow crab and shrimp were available. Monthly specials were posted for all to see. The atmosphere was lively, filled with customers, talking, friendly people who were willing to sit and chat with you while waiting for their order. Very nice clean atmosphere. It didn't take long for our steamed crabs to be ready. We took them home and were very pleased to get heavy crabs filled with sweet meat. They were delicious! So good, we ate them all in one sitting! This is not a fancy restaurant. This is a fish market that also cooks food. The fried shrimp is my favorite here. They use a light coating before they fly it with a nice seasoning of old bay. They can be a bit slow even when you call ahead so just know that before you go if you're in a rush. read more

Excellent seafood. They are very particular as to what is sold out of their market. Also, they are honest as to how fresh the fish is. We go there just to buy tuna and salmon for sushi/poke and I have been told on occasion that the fish was not to be used raw which meant I didn't buy it on those couple occasions. Lost a sale, but gained a loyal, long term customer. You too can make sushi at home! It's waaayyyy less expensive than eating out and, honestly, the fish from Trader Bay is of better quality than any of our local sushi restaurants. Met a couple here who brought a big cooler and a lot of blue crabs to store them. Turns out they'd been traveling through South Carolina down to Trader Bay, and planned to bring them back to his mother in Georgia to cook them up. Now that's a recommendation right there that no Yelper could ever top in written form. We bought some pink shrimp, smoked mullet, and amberjack dip. The mullet was good enough (if you like fish scales with your fish), but the shrimp could have been purchased at any grocery store. It had that thawed too long from a frozen state with the tell-tale slit above the tail. The dip was too salty to make an afternoon marathon snack-a-thon difficult. Sorry to say, but after experiencing the over the top, buttery textured, ambrosially clean taste of Aripeka Stone Crab's right off the boat shrimp it's worth the few miles to drive there. read more

Their current market fresh options were good and we stayed to have a bite of lunch on their patio and grab a beer. Have been coming here for years. Stopped in for some Scottish Salmon on Friday. We picked up 1.5 lbs. If you've never tried Scottish Salmon you must give it a try. It;s wonderful. We drive 15 miles to get it. What a difference from supermarket seafood. read more

I had hoped to write a review on how good the food was, however, we never had the opportunity to taste it. 5 of us met for lunch yesterday at 1:15pm after a 1 hour drive from Pinellas to lunch with some friends. There was no one else there besides us, we placed our order after modifications. My wife wanted a grouper sandwich and my friend's wife wanted a grunt sandwich, problem is they ran out of bread. They were also out of blue crab. We waited 1-1/2 hours and still did not receive our orders, but locals that came in after us not only got served table side but to go orders and fish market orders were going out the whole time we were waiting. After 2 visits to the counter inquiring about our order and 2 excuses about being busy, we paid for our drinks and left. Miraculously, as we were pulling away, a customer came out to tell us our order was on the way. We said thank you and left. The good news is we went a couple of miles north to the Upper Deck and salvaged a wonderful lunch. Seafood market may be good, the restaurant (three tables) is terrible. They need to realize when a customer walks in and the group is spending over $100 for lunch, locals or not, they need to be served in a timely manner. We will not be going back again. read more
