My first time going to this place was an extremely bad experience. I bought two frozen medium size lobster tails and a small packed bag of smoked salmon. They had a hard time figuring out what to charge me because their scales were not working properly (understandable). I got home and immediately put the lobster tails in the freezer. Four days later I tried steaming one of the lobster tails (saving the other for later). Upon steaming the tails there was a strong and horrible ammonia smell. The smell was so bad it made my wife sick. Upon cooking the lobster tail I cut it up and still the ammonia small was so strong it was nauseating. I researched the ammonia smell and found that's the sign the lobster tail is spoiled. I didn't even try cooking the other lobster tail because the first one smelled so bad. I took the lobster tails back to the store and just wanted a refund. I hoping the smoked salmon is ok, I haven't tried eating that yet. They convinced me to try new lobster tail saying the got a fresh shipment in. I was hesitant but upon check out it was going to cost me about $20 more to exchange two of the same size lobster tails. Again, they said they were having a problem calibrating their scales. No one at the store was coming up with the same price to charge me, they said because Of scale problems. If you know you are having problems with your scales I would think that call for an immediate fix not several days. I gave up and just asked for a refund. My first time there was not a good experience and don't plan on going back. They don't seem to know what they are doing plus they sell spoiled seafood. read more

Very disappointed! Saw on their Facebook page that they had Lobsters for $9.99 a pound. I was planning on buying several 1.5 lb lobsters. When I arrived their counter sign said $10.99, I asked the lady behind the counter and in all her rudeness said the Facebook page hasn't been updated and I would have to pay $10.99/lb. I try to pick up something from Whitney's whenever I visit my parents in Spring Hill. I usually go for swordfish, which has always been great, but also ahi tuna and live lobsters recently. Fantastic. Everything in the store looks fresh, no fishy smell, very well-run place. They're happy to give you ice to keep the fish fresh. Saw a recent review where the reviewer commented that the Facebook page wasn't up to date with latest lobster prices, so he left. I kind of wonder what this person expected from a seafood store. I love this place because they provide great seafood at a fair price. I'm not going to walk out because the price is a dollar higher than I saw on FB. read more

Oh my.... I have been passing for years... Soooo sad. I went for my bday dinner supplies. I was in after scallops. I didn't expect to spend 28 dollars for a pound of sea scallops, I could have went to Publix... I get it now... The quality was superior. The stuffed mushrooms were incredible, great customer service. They also have rice I have not seen else where. The advacado rice is really nice with seared scallops and margaritas. I went in Whitney's to buy red snapper today. The price shown in the case was $13.49. When the fish was weighed the price was $14.99. I told the person weighing the fish that was not the correct price that the price in the case was $ 13.49. The lady at the cash register got involved and said the price was $14.99. That the person who cleaned the must have accidentally changed the number in the case. Blame it on the cleaning person but the bottom line is that the price displayed is the price you should pay, by law. After she check all of the scales, she told me it was $14.99. But I told her that she was breaking the law. Well she finally agreed to change the price but I could not see what she charged until I got home and looked at the sticker. She had the audacity to charge me $14.49 per pound not $13.49. She did not a mistake, She was angry that I challenged her on the price and that I expected her to follow the law. Buyer beware! I bought about 1.3 pounds of fish and she had to cheat me! Rude, bad customer service, and deplorable behavior. Looks like I.ll look for another fish market. Was that extra few cents worth it? Discussed and disappointed. If I had gone to Publix and that happened, the fish would have been free! read more

Purchased 2 lbs. of SHRIMP at Whitney's "Fresh" Seafood Market in December. At home, we looked at the bag more closely were shocked to see that the Shrimp were not "fresh,: in fact they were FARM RAISED and INJECTED WITH THE CHEMICAL SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSATE. We never eat seafood with this chemical injection. We assumed all products purchased at a seafood market would always be wild caught and chemical free. I called Whitneys, asked to speak to manager; a woman manager was placed on the phone. She was beyond rude. I was shocked by her unprofessional behavior. Went to Whitney's last week to get some haddock, I can't find it anywhere not a popular fish in florida, so they have it in the case, I see and get excited can't believe someone has it, so I asked the man for 2 lbs. He picks it some up carries it back to the room behind him, I see him doing something to it, I should have known right then something's up!! He comes back, I ask him is there something wrong? WOW what a additude very rude, he wraps it up, and I pay for it. Make it that night, there was a very strong smell, I didn't know what it was, bleachy smell, I mean isn't fish not suppose to smell?
