I love this Trader Joe's!! All the employees here are so nice and so helpful. They always remember me and my son. Ever since they did the remodeling, the layout is great and it feels a lot less packed even when the parking lot is full. They have Petey the parrot that my son always loves to find in the store so he can get a lollipop. If they don't have something in stock, they'll usually tell you when it will be in and you can call the day of and have them hold it for you. read more

Limited on the veriety of certain items like fish, slices, grains but over abundant in weird items like coffee or oils. The free samples are cute and they've led to impromptu purchases but when I've tried to fine simple things like onion powder or fresh shrimp, nothing. This location has a parking lot which is always a plus if it's not in the NYC but is very close to it . There's also a really cool view from the parking lot since there's an old steam boat in the water at the end of it. Much like any Trader Joe's it's always very busy but I've noticed that people tend to be pretty efficient in the store and at checkout and I've never had to wait very long in the line. The other issue typical of a Trader Joe's shopping experience is if you go on a weekend they're pretty much always trying to stock to keep up with the demand of weekend shoppers. The aisles are wide enough that you don't feel like your cramped and even though they're running low on the weekends and stuffing well they go they do their best to be helpful and to help you find an item that you're looking for. You can't really go wrong with Trader Joe's since they have such a great business model and this location is no exception. I always leave Trader Joe's with more items than I planned to come in to purchase because there was adding cool new things or I'm just realizing how great current items already are and I need more of them. We found ourselves in NJ returning a rental and passed this TJ's location and thought, heck, we have the car, let's do our grocery shopping. How suburban of us. This location is a lot more spacious than our local TJ's in Chelsea and has a slightly bigger selection in my opinion. If nothing else, you have a lot more room to move around and get your shopping done. Since I was unfamiliar with the layout, I had to ask a lot of questions of the staff to find stuff. Everyone was very nice and very helpful. We were able to get just about everything we needed and were on our way. read more

There is a cashier named Wilson who is efficient and professional but never rushes you. He is very kind and listens to your needs while never sacrificing attention to detail. A true gem. This TJ's never has a line and because of that, we're inseparable. But seriously, I've come here plenty of times (peak weekend hours included) and have yet to wait on a single line. I don't even think that I've ever waited behind a single person before to be honest. Coming from NYC this is unfathomable, but I'm not complaining one bit. The store itself is extremely clean and well-organized, and although there's a general buzz of people the aisles also never feel super crowded. There is plenty of room to navigate your cart without bumping into anyone. It's a tad smaller than some other Trader Joe's that I've been to, but they still have most if not all of their signature items. There isn't wine here...wompppppp womp. But I do usually pick up a bouquet of five dollar flowers for a little pick me up. That, with some cookie butter and no lines and I'm a happy gal! read more

Groceries on the Hudson, stop #2. Like a mini Whole Foods, Trader Joe's has a few things that are awesome and so cheap you'd be crazy not to get them here. Moderate crowds at all times, there is plenty of parking and a Red Mango 4.6 feet away just in case you want to get some delicious ice cream on your way in/out. You will find a lot of employees around and about, always unpacking something. In the handful of times since i've started coming here for select items, there is always someone unboxing and shelving bagged lettuce and arugula at a rate that could only be considered near-olympic. The good: -Cheap cheap cheap cheap for just about everything. -The people that work here look happy, and are actually really nice. The meh: -They don't carry everything, or even close to everything. No deli, no seafood, no meat counter. -Unless you only eat a handful of food items, you'll probably have to go somewhere else to finish stocking up your fridge. -The meat selection is okay, but I don't find it as astonishingly cheap as A&P or even Whole Foods (if it is on sale there). Come here for: produce (lettuce, arugula, baby carrots, select fruit, among other things), pretty much anything you'd find in the frozen food section (fruit, veggies, fries), pasta sauce, peanut butter (and related items) and DEFINITELY COME HERE FOR THE BREAD. This Trader Joe's has doubled in size in the last few weeks. While the product variety remained the same the store is better able to meet demand. Before re the expansion, it was not unusual to see empty shelves on a weekend. Now that the store expanded, my chances of finding something I need on a Sunday night expanded too. Service is great. Staff at the store is usually smiley and nice. I haven't seen them having a bad day. If I ask for help finding something, they are usually eager to help and will even go in the back to check if the item I need is there. As a store, I am a big fan of TJs for basic ingredients of good quality and good price. I usually get produce, spices, nuts, quinoa, cheeses and gluten free bread from there. The store has good quality products that don't break the bank as much. There is a tasting station with a treat and coffee that is worth a visit too. Loving that I have a Trader Joe's, Mitsuwa AND Whole Foods in my town! Proximity to these stores may actually get me to cook! Not only are the people who work here super friendly and helpful ... they actually look like they love working here! Plus I love the teeny little grocery carts for the kids to help out their shopping parents. Food selection and quality is good, pricing appears reasonable and I have recently become a fan of the frozen fruit pops. My sis swears by the dark chocolate peanut butter cups but I'm not gonna succumb ... just yet anyway. read more

I agree with everyone here it is a trek on the treacherous River Rd. You just never know when there will be traffic. Either way press your luck during the weekdays preferably after the morning rush hour but before the lunch crowd or after the lunch crowd but before the evening rush hour so that gives you approximately 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. The closest trader Joe's in my neighborhood and I do love going here for my no weekly grocery haul. My only major complaint is the cut veggies in the produce section sometimes barely last 2 days in the refrigerator. It seems older vegetables are used for the cut variety and they rot pretty soon. Other than that I do enjoy the fried food, frozen treats and snacks I get from here. The wild caught shrimps are really good in pasta or saute dishes. I shop everything except produce here read more

I came here since its the closest to Jersey City. I love that there were no lines to pay on a Saturday afternoon. They had great selections of everything even some items that my Queens location doesn't carry. Trader Joe's. 'Nough said. This place rocks. I discovered Trader Joes back in around 1999 or 2000, when Trader Joe's moved into my old neighborhood in San Francisco. I was there visiting my best friend, when she took me to Trader Joes. I fell instantly in loved and was thrilled when they finally moved to NJ and, eventually, to Edgewater. I love their place. They have great foods. If you haven't been here, come once and you'll become a regular. They don't cary name brands, but all of their store brands are as good--or better--than anything you'll find at A&P. Favorites of mine are the eggplant rollatinii, mushroom asparagus tortellini, and chipoltle hummus. One complaint, if you can call it that, is that you will get SOOOO hooked on a product and it will disappear from the shelves. For me, this is the case with the pre-cooked hardboiled eggs and the panko chicken. They are just GONE. I live in the hope that they will come back. The store staff indicate that they have not been "discontinued". I hold out hope that I will once again see them again. This Trader Joes does NOT sell alcohol, so you won't be finding any of that "Two Buck Chuck" here. It's a bummer, but it's still a great store. They were closed for a few weeks immediately following Sandy. They gutted the place and totally redid the inside. That was cool and all, but the aisles are a little confusing and awkward now. You push your basket (if you have one) to once side, but you walk your person on the other side of the checkout. It's very awkward (and stupid), but it's how it is. My theory is that it allows them to display more merchandise at the ends of the aisles, but it's still a ridiculously obnoxious setup. Oh, yeah. The mall is also in close proximity to a lot of other businesses I frequent, including Pet Valu, Animal General (vet) and Harmon Face Values. It's a great store at a great location. read more

This is a bit of a smaller location than most Trader Joe's I've been to and it also doesn't carry the same wide variety of items other locations do, but it's still really good. If you're looking for your basic food items, you'll find them here. I recently tried their Plum Galette and it was amazing - perfect plum sweetness and a buttery, soft crust. TJ in Edgewater is awesome...just like other TJ (exception is Queenz) Peeps working here are generous and know customer service, and store shelves are stocked well. Speaking of people working at TJ, after reading the article on magazine (can't recall which mag), I know understand why they seem so "happy" - I used to think they are on happy drug, but apprently they are paid well and taken care of, that's awesome to hear in this economy. Solid selection, and the staff is super friendly. Stock is pretty consistent here, every so often something I'm dying for is out of stock, but they're always johnny-on-the-spot with letting you know when it'll be back. They also have greeting cards, which is awesome--I just wish that they had more seasonal ones (mothers day/fathers day/holiday, etc.) but I understand that it's difficult to do stock-wise. Going on Saturdays means there's a line and a little trouble parking, but it's never that bad--and you can always park a little further away and walk over. read more

I used to live in Manhattan and all the Trader Joe's in the city were overly crowded. Some are in 2 levels and you have to take escalator. That is too much. But here in Edgewater, it is way less crowded and my shopping is always smooth. Staff is nice and friendly. Kids love to receive stickers at cashier. Great location on River Road. My wife loves Trader Joe's she shops here at least once a week. My daughter drinks a gallon of milk that fast. She is always bringing home interesting and delicious stuff to eat. They also have great return policies. The store is very clean and the recent expansion has made it even better. read more

I love Trader Joe's they have so much affordable even cheap food items that are super yummy! Some of my favorites are the vegetable fried rice, pomegranate green tea, alkaline water, and roasted corn. Love their frozen veggies so many to choose from. This location does not serve wine which is why it doesn't get all the stars. Traders Joe's with the "2 buck chuck" wine are obviously the best locations, but can't seem to find one with wine in NJ. Staff is super nice and helpful. Store is kind of small in comparison to some others but otherwise I really like it for some of my speciality items I can't get at other stores. My old TJ was the Union Square one in the city, so I guess there's no way to go but up. I almost always go on the weekends. Saturday is better. Sunday tends to be a nightmare because it's crowded. Stuff is usually sold out by Sunday night. It has good inventory, but not everything. The parking lot can get hairy -- not the best drivers in the area. read more

I like this place. NOOO lines on a Saturday!!! I was very pleased with the check out place! I will return. So I usually buy everything for my home here and it makes life easier. I shop here every week. This Trader Joes is very popular and could get very crowded, especially on weekends. Since they don't maintain a large inventory, they run out of many items on weekends, particularly on Sundays. They don't carry many brand name items that are well known. Most are specific to Trader Joes or specialty brands. If you like ice cream, you have to get their French Vanilla, it is so good. Everyone I recommended to loved it. Some of you from California may be looking for the two buck chuck, but won't find it here. No alcohol are sold here. Like most Trader Joes, this place is not too big, staff are mostly friendly, and helpful. But, don't expect exception service. read more

Not very impressed with this TJ's. We stopped here on our way back to NYC this afternoon and I was utterly disappointed. There were no carts when we got in since all of them were being used (according to a staff member) so we had to carry all of our items by hand. The store itself was a madhouse -- I get that it was a Saturday but there was no order to anything...bottle caps were coming off of the olive oils we grabbed and due to the mayhem, there was no one to even pick it up. I was very disappointed when we finally paid and the lady bagging our food merely through in our items (thankfully we didn't have eggs, but I was worried that our food might not be in great condition when we got back.) I love, love, love Trader Joe's, Edgewater. The flowers are always so beautiful and the first thing I see going in the store. I bought a pretty yellow flower today, it's hard for me to resist grabbing one every time I'm in. The prices are always good. The food quality is superb. I love the staff, they're all so warm and welcoming. Especially tonight. The women at closing that was letting people in, she is just the sweetest person. I can't forget my favorite cashier that was in tonight. He's always so engaging and makes me feel like we're buddies. I look forward to going thru his line. All i can say is: WTF??! To Management: When and WHY did you RE-ARRANGE the whole freakin' store for?? ANNOYING---and the arrangement is WORSE. Management is all about decision making: BAD DECISION! They even tore up that wooden customer service den in the corner where the bread used to be sold, and moved that----a true head-scratcher. I can't review every place and have been shopping here for years, albeit just a few times a year. Have not been here in a few months and had to drop by quickly to get some chocolate in bulk, as always. But with this worse arrangement, there was less room to fit the item, so I had to buy LESS. I was also going to get a couple of other items, but since I could not F-ing find anything anymore, i bought less items and left sooner. Hence, TJ's, you lost $ with this customer, so far. Remember that golden adage: IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT... Other than this huge annoyance, the store is fine---your usual TJ's. I don't know what the rave reviews are for this Trader Joe's are about. Now, I went on a Saturday evening, but it is a madhouse and too hectic and small to enjoy or even get what you need and find what you need while shopping. There were kids running around screaming in free-for-all mode and the place is extremely tiny. Even with the scaled down carts navigating thru the hoards of Mercedes SUV and MInivan moms was painful. They do have a great selection of neat stuff that Trade Joe's prides itself on. I was so overwhelmed by the chaos we grabbed a few things and left after waiting in line forever. The meats are a little too pricey for me, especially because I could truly care less if my Chicken was massaged daily while eating organic grass from Madagascar. It's tiny and just inconvenient and call me old fashioned I'm down with convenience while grocery shopping. Now I live in Hoboken so the ride to get here is hellish on a weekend or evening so that alone keeps me at A&P in JC. I'm sure TJ is fine on a weekday at 9:30am but I won't ever make the trek there again. Bring it to Hoboken please! We don't need an office depot! read more
