I'm here in Portland for work and one of my crew has a friend in the area and had us over for a little visit. She served us these Portuguese Egg Tarts she got at Trader Joes. OMG, were these good! I just had to give a review of Trader Joe's at the store where she purchased them. Get this the price was like just $3.49 or something like that. These 4 tarts in a box, so that's like less than $1.00 each. Just heat them up in the oven for 1/2 hour and they're ready! I just had to check out Trader Joe's and see them for myself and maybe get a box or two to heat up at the hotel for later. I think there's an oven I can use or last resort the microwave in the room. It took a little searching the frozen aisles to find them, but I did. I checked, there's like 4 Trader Joe's just in the Portland area. You gotta really try these things. read more

This is my favorite Trader Joe's location because of the proximity to my house, as well as their recently expanded prepared foods department (filling out the former Panera location in Hollywood) The floral department is always full of surprises, boasting some of the best seasonal offerings. And you can't beat the prices here! Whether I'm looking for preassembled bouquets, or assembling my own, I generally find what I need here. The only drawback of shopping in this location is the parking lot. It's a very busy thoroughfare given the proximity to the Hollywood transit station, and the freeway offramp, so there's always a lot going on here. There isn't much space to park in the neighborhood if the parking lot is full, so I've been known to circle the lot a few times before finding a space. Trader Joe's hires the friendliest staff in the world, no matter the location, but I've always felt very welcome in this location. Everyone is always smiling and seems happy to be at work. read more

Shopping in Hollywood, Oregon... This was our first stop in Portland. We were really looking for those canvas tote bags with the lavender-colored handles. Unfortunately, they were limited edition and were sold out. Gosh... Since we were there, we got a turkey apple arugula cheese sandwich, juice, salami, and more greeting cards... LOL! We were able to use the convenient restroom (we had to get the code for the door from the manager who was wearing a Hawaiian shirt) and appreciated the friendly service and free shared parking! Was once again super happy with my visit to trader joes. Always love coming to this place as I dont have to check every single label for artificial flavoring or coloring. Knowing I can trust the food is defiantly reassuring but it's also very nice that the store is incredibly clean and has super kind employees that are always helpful and make our shopping experience a pleasure. Even though they offer much better food quality the prices are still perfectly reasonable for what you're getting especially when factoring in location. I love Trader Joe's. But who doesn't. Got quite the haul today and wow, so many "new" or just new to me items. Custard (egg tarts) tarts are delicious. Personal pizzas are a nice quick lunch with a salad, and they've been really good at keeping their cheese prices low. Super friendly everyone their--even the customers, which is always a nice change from the usual prison at the grocery store. The parking though, this has been going on for as long as it's been there, a nightmare. Go during the week if you can early or at an odd time or get ready to have those same nice folks run you over. I like to park just on a side street even if I see spots and walk it. Not so pro tip, enter and exit on 41st NOT 42nd is busy, you have to make a turn or two, but I never see any lines or issues on 41st. Did they discontinue the frozen fish Korma (Indian)? Darn! Trader Joe's are pretty consistent from location to location. I usually get snacks and frozen foods at TJ's. This one is a good size, in a convenient location in Hollywood, but with a terrible parking lot that is an accident waiting to happen. Please drive carefully. read more

I'm not sure why Trader Joe's hasn't made it into my grocery store rotation before now, but after this weekend's visit, it's absolutely going to be in there, going forward! There are so many awesome, delicious, and above all, *reasonably priced* things that we took home, from snacks to entrées to kitchen staples, stocking and stuffing our pantry and fridge to the brim! The only downside to shopping here is that I always forget how to navigate the streets to find this particular location, as it is tucked away in a hidden little corner of the Hollywood district, but that's a really minor nitpick. It certainly doesn't seem to be hurting their business, as the store was positively bustling during our early-afternoon visit! read more

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Caramel apple mochi is now in stock! I tried one and had to close my eyes and take a moment to say a prayer of gratitude cus these are so tasty. (It tastes like caramel apple candy/liqueur/flavor shot syrup, not fresh caramel apple) Also, I HIGHLY recommend the pumpkin bisque soup. I get three servings of thick, creamy spiced goodness out of a jar. I can't even add anything to my soup bowl since it's so perfect as is. Tonight, I broke a whole carton of eggs in the corner of my cart as I tried pulling my bags out at the register. No less than three team members jumped in to help clean up and replace the eggs and assured my anxious self that it was no big deal and the eggs would be composted or donated. The check out guy also noticed my tortilla chip bag was gunked up with raw egg and had someone swap that out. What a delightfully helpful team! I'm happy shopping here. read more

I got the supplies I needed at this spacious store. Of all the many TJ stores I have visited this had the least impressive staff. I was on a checkout line that only took handbaskets. I didn't see the sign, but the clerk didn't mention anything until i waited on line for five minutes behind a customer. If the concept was express, I only had six items in my cart. I don't get the rationale and he didn't offer to ring me up. Onto the next line, and Mr. Speedy didn't bother to wrap my wine bottles, and I had to ask him to double bag. Never had a bottle fiasco but this could have been a first at TJs. This branch did not have the customer value service I am accustomed to. Very clean and well organized TJ. We stopped in to pick up some fruit, drinks, and snacks. Everything was easy to find and all of the staff members greeted us as we passed by. This TJ did a great job with traffic control and monitored the number of customers who were inside the store at any given time. Although we had to wait in a line before going inside, the line moved quickly and the "traffic controller" did a great job in thanking everyone for their patience. read more

I live in Beaverton and pre pandemic shopped at Trader Joes for much of my produce. I am genuinely not really a ready made meal person and I cook. I am big on salads and simple veggies. When the pandemic hit an for long after we were in it I seriously refused to go into the Beaverton Trader Joe's since it was crowded pre pandemic but there was a ridiculous line to even get in. I go to Hollywood Theater a lot and I get off the freeway and drive by this location but I get there i time to go into the movie and TJ's is closed when I get out usually since I mostly see 7 or 730pm starting movies. I was seeing two movies a few days ago and there was an hour in between them. I was needing a pretty sizeable produce list for salad and also a stew I was plotting making. I thought close time was 930pm instead of 9pm so I pulled up and a crew member was chaining up all the carts. I was confused as it was 845pm and asked if they were closed since the store also looked empty. He said that they were still open until 9pm. I got back in my car to leave because I have a broken ankle, am slow, the carts are all chained up and was just like no...seriously... I am glad I said to hell with it and went in. I did not want to ask for a cart or wait so that part is totally on me because he offered to grab me one and also to help me etc. I wanted flowers but was having a mental challenge picking out something n- TJ's always has such a glorious and welcome array of fresh flowers for crazy great prices BUT then boom...wild poppies!! A cute container to plant yourself...perfect... And then I found two GIANT bag fulls of gorgeous produce for $30....WHAT?!? I get to the register and am apologizing because I have to walk awkward and slow - basket versus cane etc... She immediately was a dream and very let me help you...this lovely creature is ending her day and beaming with a welcoming smile and asked if she could walk my groceries to my car. Thankfully I was parked right up front but was so beyond grateful for her help and even just her inspiring attitude. Going grocery shopping and feeling like you were hanging out with a friend - wow... It makes me realize I need to make this where I grab my groceries. read more

This is my favorite grocery store. Things are priced just right. I prefer getting fresh cut flowers from here because of the price and the quality. The produce is of great quality as well. Do try their salad kits which are delicious. They also have ready to eat meal kits. While all Trader Joe's are basically set up the same, the renovated store in NE off Halsey raises the bar! I moved to the SW two years ago yet still do the bulk of my shopping there. The store is huge, lots of space for roaming the aisles and everything is set up in a logical fashion. It's well stocked, organized and items are easy to find. Can't beat the prices and variety of their bagged lettuce, packaged nuts, dried fruits and cheese. Gorgeous flowers and succulents, basil plants and delicious pre-made meals in addition to all the pantry items. There is lots of parking, something you can't say for some of the smaller locations. I find that all of the cashiers are friendly and helpful. They always ask if I have found everything I need. One day I was shopping for ready made food two days after a surgery. I was in pain and moving very slowly. The checker was engaged in a lengthy conversation with the customer before me. Not their issue that I just had surgery and was struggling to stand so I didn't say anything, just waited patiently. When it was my turn, the checker noticed I was in pain, apologized for taking long with the prior customer, then waved to one of the runners. A few seconds later the runner appeared with a bouquet of flowers and placed it in my bag. The checker said she hoped the flowers would brighten my day. They did! She did! Literally, my eyes welled up with tears. It seems that lately there is so much anger and divisiveness permeating our lives and her act of kindness was so unexpected and genuine that it touched me at a time when I needed compassion. Some of my Trader Joe faves, in no particular order: green chile chicken enchiladas (refrigerator section), Italian meatloaf, pot stickers, peanut butter filled pretzels, olive oil popcorn, all their bagged lettuce, ricotta cheese (the best), burrata (best price anywhere), Chariot wine $6.99 (way better than 2-buck Chuck), tricolore pasta, champagne grapes, sugar-kissed cantaloupe, spanakopita, ground turkey (best price), Stilton cheese with ginger, ginger granola, ginger beer, greeting cards, Traders olive oil, NY cheesecake (freezer) Favorite dark chocolate items: dark chocolate star cookies (Holiday time), dark chocolate covered caramels, dark chocolate mini peanut butter cups, dark chocolate mints, dark chocolate covered marshmallows, dark chocolate mini cakes decorated like presents (Christmas item) - yes, I have a thing for dark chocolate! Please bring back the four cheese ravioli! For all of these reasons and more, I cross the river and still do my grocery shopping at The Hollywood Trader Joe's. read more

This is my favorite TJs because of the great selection and convenient location. I am always impressed with the cleanliness of the store, friendly and helpful staff and the array of vegan products. Some of my favorite go to vegan items are the coconut whipped cream, rainbow wrap, kale pesto and vegan vanilla ice cream. I recently discovered the dill pickle hummus and I am addicted! It has such a real pickle essence and it is so refreshing. It pairs nicely with lightly salted crackers...a little too well because I cannot keep it in the house for more than 3 days! There were a few nice fall decorations that I noticed at the store today as well as a plethora of pumpkin products! I've been trying to sample them all. Today I tried the pumpkin oat milk with the pumpkin joe Joe's and it was amazing! It had almost a turmeric aftertaste, but mostly pumpkin. Very rich and creamy and paired well with the cookies. I also got the pumpkin biscottis which I have yet to try! I can't remember my cashiers name, but she was so kind. My dill hummus was open and she had another nice associate named Aaron (I think) grab a fresh one for me. Even the other customers are super nice here! I wanted to post this as both a review and as a thank you. My cat was put down two days ago. She was my closest friend and it has been the most difficult grief to work through in my life so far. When I came to this Trader Joe's, I had just put her down not an hour before. As I went through the check out, my boyfriend let the cashier know that we had just put down our cat. I apologized to the cashier for being sad, as I didn't want anyone else to have to be sad like we were. The cashier excused herself for a moment, and quickly came back with a little bouquet of flowers. To you, whose name I do not know, thank you. I can't describe to you what that did for me. I held the flowers in a Vice grip crying into them the entire way home-- it felt like the universe was offering me such a gentle kindness. You brought a small glimpse of happiness to the darkest day of my life. I hung the flowers in our doorway and there they will stay amongst the blanky she laid on-- a reminder of her, and of you, who showed me such a genuine kindness. Thank you. I don't think I can every repay what you did for me, but please know that I wish you everything beautiful and kind in the world for your kind act. read more

Once you survive the parking lot (!!!!!) this Hollywood store is fabulous. There are plenty of knowledgeable, friendly employees who seem to enjoy working there. One or more of them is an artist and they make the store look fun and beautiful. I once saw a six-year old looking around saying to herself, "It's beautiful here" and it certainly is. Then there are the groceries. Before TJ's many products were only available in their country of origin, for example, Italian sauces and pastas were unknown here. Now we can get many things that previously required a long plane trip, plus the schlepping of some heavy cargo. Some of the produce is over-packaged, but much of it is good enough if the Farmer's market is over for the year. And the plants and flowers! You'll have to see for yourself, but they have a big selection of fresh flowers and plants at very reasonable prices. I've been in many TJ's in many cities, but our Hollywood store is certainly the best looking, and I think the most fun. read more

Covid 19 review Sept 2020 - Will this year end already? All the state requirements are being followed. They had hand sanitizer they had mask required. staff in Mask! it was all good in the hood! So even with all the added safty I can say it was worth the wait and the stop. This place rocked! TJs ohhh TJs won't you bless my state with thee? Will it be done? Could we have won? A Trader Joe's for me? Seriously what's it going to take to get you to leave the lower 48? Pack your bags and get a store to Anchorage Alaska? Seriously me flying down and buying up a few hundred dollars worth of stuff (*mainly cookie butter) Should be a hint. We need you we love you! Please make it be! Ok so I know it's TJ's and all you lucky local people don't realize how good you have it! This store is a gem. from its smiling workers to its low prices! It's selection is amazing and it's quality is fantastic! Things i seem to always buy when i fly down #1. 6-10 jars of cookie butter. #1 requested items by my co workers. #2. This is one of those huge Trader Joes. You can find so many really yummy and interesting foods, drinks, and household supplies here. Anytime I'm in the area and have a few extra minutes I will go in and grabs so yummy stuff and my favorite orange blossom hand soap. The staff here is also great and helpful when you need to find something. My ONLY issue is the parking situation. They have an okay sized lot but when this is the only trader Joe's on this side of town a lot of people visit it and thus many of us have to drive. There have been a few times I've just had to circle the lot hoping a spot, big enough for car, opened up. All in all good TJ just try to go during a calm time and not 3 pm on a Saturday. read more

I've been shopping here for seven years. I stop in after the gym and buy everything about twice a week. Now, due to all of our lives being changed by this virus there is a new book of PC codes. It's upsetting when you don't know the rules and you have to learn them by employees that are upset and treat uniformed and learning customers with their grief and frustration. Rules to follow to save you scolding: 1. Don't talk on the phone while there so you can get in and out quickly because there are lines to enter. This makes sense. 2. Always give customers/employee's a minimum of six feet. Look at the each other as if you are at an intersection with stop signs. Wait for the nod to pass or wait. This makes sense. 3. If you are keeping your distance and you walk behind an employee that is facing away from you stocking avocados for example, do not only distant yourself three feet and grab the most distant corner avocado away from him. If you do, he will tell you .... Sir , next time let people know you are coming. I agree and my fault thinking speed and faces looking in opposite directions. I know it now and I also agree. However, I don't agree with the tone or gasp as if I'm reckless and uncaring. 4. When you go to the register, push your cart to cross the line and you stay on the other side of the line. This is quite simple and makes sense. 5. Forget about bringing your bags. Those days are over. If you do bring them, then the bell will be rung and a manager will bring a second cart for you to pack your bags outside in the parking lot. Extra paper bags are free. Your personal bags are now looked at as a possible contaminant and you can't fill your bags near the register. Leave them at home and all is well. I can see it now, it makes sense. There it is, happy shopping, hopefully soon and if there is yet new modifications to our changing environment to come, it will be explained in a caring way. Fingers crossed. I'm going to research grocery deliveries more. I fear I might accidentally come to close again. These are challenging times. read more

Like most Trader Joe's, the store has a great selection, good prices and helpful staff. But it is obvious the majority of the cars in the lot are from other nearby businesses and housing. The lot is difficult to navigate and you sometimes have to wait quite a while for a space to open up. The parking lot is packed and all of these people not inside shopping. They should police the lot and get rid of these people, it would make a visit less stressful. read more

I don't go here often usually the parking lot is too full and we prefer some other stores for certain things. Stopped in the other day as there was a lot of space in the parking and found I really like all the wine choices at reasonable prices. Even had multiple workers that asked if they could help. I finally said sure and he didn't try and sell me on the more expensive bottles. Got a nice variety. Hope it all works out! read more

Of all the countless chocolate bars I've tried - including a number of $10+ ones from The Meadow - Simply Lite at Trader Joe's ($1.99) is my favorite. Not award winning, not high cacao %, but a regular purchase. Probably one of my shortest reviews for a 5-Star rating, but what can I possibly add? This Trader Joe's store (across the street from Orchard Supply Hardware) is located in the Hollywood District with it's own parking lot. Parking can be a challenge because so many people just love shopping at Trader Joe's. My husband and I came by this location this past Friday, a little before 4 pm. After circling the parking lot a few times, we eventually found some parking. We came in here primarily for some fruit to stock up on while we vacation in Portland and also to pick up a bag of the Trader Joe branded Rice Cracker Medley (Asian snack mix that is really addicting. Ask my husband, he ate the entire bag in 2 days!). While we walked down the aisles, we eventually found ourselves towards the back corner of the store (near the restroom, which by the way needs to be opened by an employee if you need to use it. And yes the restroom was clean and adequately stocked with the essentials) where there was a free wine tasting (yes I said FREE. Every day from 1- 7 pm. Your welcome). I have only seen a free wine tasting feature at the Trader Joe's in Temecula and so I was surprised to see another one here. According to the guy leading the tasting, Portland people are big wine drinkers (I suppose thus the reason for one being here). On this particular visit (your ID will need to be checked to verify your age, especially if you look young), there were 3 different wines to try. My husband did not really like any of the wines (I only like dessert wines so none of the wines featured were to my liking) but it was still nice to try. The employee taking care of us was very friendly and made small talk with us. He is originally from Southern California, San Gabriel Valley where we are from. But came out to Portland in the 1990's to help open this store and has never left. This shopping experience was pleasant, just as it is at all their other locations. Major bonus to find the free wine tasting! I love how each check out stand is named after a street in this neighborhood, very cute. read more

I always find everything I need at this location. And even through all the COVID measures, the staff has maintained their even-keeled, consistent customer service. I'm sure it's been a challenge due to staffing g constraints and customer frustration at waiting in the VERY long lines at times. But I just had to write a review today because Rob (I hope I got that right, tattooed right forearm, bleached tips) gave me not just amazing customer service, but basic human compassion. Which, I rarely see. And he was genuine about it. I shared that my car had been broken into and Rob said the exact right thing and went above and beyond to make my day better with the 'tools' at his disposal. Thanks Rob. There is nothing I can say here that has not been said before. We all know about their wonderful selection of usual treats, wine, and wraps. I almost forgot to mention also their selection of nuts and wonderful bread. We also know about their friendly service and smiling faces. Trader Joe's is the kind of store that we all love to love. My only disappointment though is their beer selection. They could have way more selection of beer. Hey, that's a small price to pay for a wonderful shopping experience. read more

Aside from the fact that the lot is 90-100% full nearly all the time (I actually prefer to park on the side street whenever possible at this location), I do love, love, love this store! All my favorite items are always in stock. The prices here are very reasonable (except for meat poultry, yikes!) And the produce is fresh (love the fresh basil plants and mixed heirloom tomatoes, delish!) The employees are ALL very friendly and super helpful. And, I love that I can bag my own groceries :) Probably my favorite thing about TJs is the great selection of reasonably priced fresh flowers. A usually buy 2 different bouquets and blend them together into one big bouquet. The flowers always last at least a week, sometimes two weeks! The only thing I don't like is that there are NO cart returns in the lot. No matter how far away you park, the only place to return carts is to the front entrance. I don't mind the walk, it just sucks when its pouring down rain and/or freezing cold. read more

We went to Trader Joe's this afternoon. I must they set the standard for how to run a grocery store during these trying times. They were monitoring the amount of customers allowed in the store at any given time. Sanitizing all grocery carts as you were allowed in. They had awnings, marked spaces 6' feet apart and the friendliest employees working the line. (At 1:00, it was a 10 minute wait.) After you entered the store there were employees restocking, sanitizing and answering customers questions. All check stands we're open and the checkers were smiling and among the friendliest we've encountered so far. (Trust me we've been to many in the last two weeks.) We purchased most of the items on our list, with the obvious exceptions. We want to thank all the store employees that made this shopping experience one of the best in the last three weeks.
