I stopped in with a friend on an early Friday night for a quick drink and a light snack - we needed to waste time before going to an event. I'm an east coaster and love the look and feel of this place (urban / industrial + a good soft pretzel). Not as good as a NY street pretzel but damned good. It was a hot day and the hard cider was a good choice from the bartender. Who was sweet on the eyes I must say - I like them tall and he fit the bill :-). It seems if the night is early there are a lot of "Ballard babies and young kids with mom and dad". I didn't enjoy that aspect too much and sure it would be different later at night. What most impressed me was the design; they put in a great job at making the place look interesting. Especially, but not limited to the tap list looking like a departures board from an airport. However, they also had a great lineup of beers, from a good selection of representative PNW hoppy ales to more eclectic choices from this area as well as elsewhere. As for food, my salad was tasty though the alleged chicken breast had more in common with other parts of that bird; tasty but rather fatty. The pickled veggies was a great side. The location is odd right now, but if the area develops as I suspect they hope it will, it might become a great location in brewery land. Came here during their soft opening and really enjoyed the beer selection. Returned about a month later and was even more impressed. I was bummed when I originally came here as it didn't have outdoor seating, but problem solved! Along the sidewalk are long picnic/ beer hall tables and the cutest seating area! The inside also has large sliding windows to make the restaurant open air. The ambience of the entire place is so charming! The tap list looks like the board at a train station, I love everything about this place! With over 40 beers and ciders there is plenty of selection and the taps are constantly rotating. They even lost the "up next" tap after the current keg runs out. Mostly WA beers but a good number from around the US and international! They just started serving cocktails so I'm excited to test out that menu. I haven't personally eaten there, but all the food that came out looked and smelled amazing. The staff are super nice, the atmosphere is cozy (and has huge tables for large parties), and the pizza was delicious. It's quite pricey, but the quality was high.... it's a tradeoff and I was tempted to give 4/5 stars only because I am less inclined to go spend greater than $15 on pizza. Their beer selection and food is pretty awesome, but I think maybe this place is too fancy for its own good. We walked in at 4 pm on Sunday and the place was about 25% full. When we walked in, the bartender looked up from his food at the far end of the bar, made eye contact, they went back to eating. The two waitresses were at the back having a conversation with one another. No one acknowledged us, even as I walked around the place looking to see if they had high chairs. There were no signs about waiting to be seated or seating yourself, so eventually I had to interrupt their conversation to ask. If you're wondering - there are no high chairs. I 100% appreciate that it's not a restaurant's responsibility to guarantee a place for my kid to sit, but it's odd they would have a dedicated kids menu and no high chairs on premises. It feels like they put that on there because they wanted to be family friendly, but forgot about the logistic part of dining with small children. Who knows, maybe they don't really want to cater to them, but I like to assume the best of intentions. Service was aloof at the best of times and absent at the worst of times. We had some friends show up 10 minutes after us and they ended up having to order beers at the bar because they didn't want to wait any longer. Again, the restaurant was probably 25% full so they weren't short staffed. No one was particularly rude; they just seemed indifferent about our business. Other reviews talk about great service; maybe our waitress was just having a bad day or something. If you're into the neo-Seattle industrial look, the decor of this place is for you. I don't care one way or the other, as long as I'm getting decent value for money. I don't think we did and it's the beer that's the problem. There were two adults and one toddler - with one pizza, two small apps, and several rounds of drinks our bill was well over $100. Their beer list is pretty great and that's what drew us in, but $8-9 for a pint is pretty high when there are countless local spots nearby that sell them for $5. This is clearly new Seattle... and I'm not one of those people who bemoan the transformation of our great city. If a big selection and correlating bill is your thing, you'll love this place. Our party agreed it would be much more at home in SLU, which isn't really what we're looking for when we're walking around the industrial part of Ballard. We might go back with a group of adults, but if we're looking for a family meal with good beer we'll likely go to the other spots around there. read more

Damn, Trailbend, you are one beautiful restaurant. Located near a bunch of the other breweries and beer halls in Ballard Trailbend really stands out because of its beautiful decor, great tap list, and delicious pizza! I came here around 2 on a Sunday afternoon (after a few beers around the area) and was starving for some good food. I don't know what it is about Seattle and pizza/beer focused places, but I like it! Trailbend offers a bright and spacious dining area, huge windows (that were letting in a nice breeze on the warm day we came) and a nice open kitchen. There seems to be a rotating selection of local beers on tap as well as a nice liquor selection. The menu offers pizzas, salads, sandwiches and some small bites. I grabbed the vegan friendly marinara pie to enjoy with my local IPA. The service was so quick and the pizza was cooked in minutes (yay!) Delicious thin crust, simple sauce and tons of garlic, yum! Next time i'll for sure check out some of the menu, enjoy more beers and bask in the glory of this beautiful interior. cheers! read more

Heads up Seattlites, this tap room is NOT dog friendly. I've always been an owner of multiple dogs (as well as cats and many other animals) I have never felt accused of 'inhumane' treatment of an animal in my life! However as my friend and I attended to enter the establishment after securing her pup outside, we were immediately greeted with a recitation of RCW 16.52.350, a bill enacted in 2017, created to protect dogs from being inhumanly tethered and left for a reckless amount of time with no food, water or shelter. It was surreal. Not a welcome feeling for a first time visit, and this review is to alert any potential dog owners to leave their dogs at home should they decide to try the place out. read more

I've been here several times and have always been impressed with the beer selection and hospitality. However, we chose this Monday night to celebrate a dear friend's birthday. They said they closed at midnight but by 10 pm we were getting kicked out. I understand if it is slow and a place wants to close early, but the waitress said they weren't making "enough money" and needed is to leave. This is after spending a few hundred dollars on food and drinks. This was absolutely disrespectful. The hospitality was horrible. On top of this, she blamed the bartender for shutting down early and half way through our drinks, the lights were turned off and we couldn't order anymore food. The food and beer were good, if pricey, and the atmosphere was nice. But I found their process for getting a table to be incredibly frustrating. I came here with a large group for my birthday during COVID. I picked it out because it was one the few places I could find that would seat larger groups. I called ahead to put my name on the list (they weren't taking official reservations). I got there and saw I had missed a call from them - one minute prior- so I went in - again ONE MINUTE AFTER MISSING THEIR CALL - and they host was just like, oh sorry, we didn't hold your spot. And then we stood around and waited for another 20 minutes for a table, when there was clearly at least one giant table available. Casual yet modern atmosphere. It's a hidden gem & less packed when compared to other places nearby. The bartender is amazing! There's not one thing he doesn't do- he makes sure guests are taken care of and makes the drinks strong. Service is speedy and great! Trailbend Taproom is a great new spot in the Ballard Brewery Blocks. My husband and I stumbled across it when walking from one brewery that was sadly lacking a food truck to another that most likely would have a food truck... when we discovered we could stop right there and have a beer and a meal at this taproom with a kitchen. Perfect! The pizzas are top notch, and while we didn't order a salad, the few we saw go by looked excellent. They welcomed us a few minutes before they officially opened and are family-friendly (we had a stroller with us). The 42 taps truly offer something for everyone - they feature beer from nearby Stoup, Lucky Envelope, and Reuben's, and even have non-alcoholic ginger beer and other options on tap for non-drinkers. Small critiques: It is a little pricey, but that's to be expected for this area. The beer list could have some descriptions that go beyond just ABV and origin. And the menu could expand a bit (but I'm spoiled by frequenting Deschutes in Portland a few years ago... besides, Trailbend only just opened!). If you want an inexpensive option, get a growler from any nearby brewery and make your own pizza at home. If, on the other hand, you want to gather with friends at one of the long wooden tables or bring the family to have a beer with lunch, you've found the perfect spot for it. read more

"Hey Siri" sent me here while I waited for tires to be swapped at Les Schwab. I was pleasantly surprised. Beer: They have a good dark beer ( hard to find around here, I don't know why) . Environment: It's clean, doesn't smell funny like so many places. It's artistically pleasing from the custom built tables and chairs to the tap wall to the roll away doors at the front to the custom handmade beer menu on the wall. Sound: As far as I know this is the ONLY place in Seattle who pays attention to sound treatments which includes nice evenly hung JBL pendant speakers to the sound absorbing material on the ceiling. Food: Now about the food. It looked beautiful. I thought it would be messy but it was not. Great tasting, fresh bakery style bread for the sandwiches. The mixed greens salad was like I would make at home (on a good day). Service: exactly what I would want for my own place; nice, friendly with a smile, appeared at the right time, said the right things very personable. This is a cool hidden space in the freelard area that serves some delicious food and great beers. They have a nice spot for grabbing a quick bite which generally has ample space. The only downside for me is they do NOT allow dogs inside. Totally get it, but during the winter months I tend to have to go elsewhere for that reason. Easy to find and got parking right in front. It's a really cool industrial style place. They have 3 picnic tables out front, which would be cool to have a large party and enjoy the sun. Inside has sections for seating and an open kitchen. The bartender (female-I think I heard her say to someone she is Emma or Emily) was not welcoming or friendly. We didn't realize the pizzas were huge and wish the bartender would have asked us if we knew. We aren't from the state and are just passing thru. I ordered the meatball pizza. There were no meatballs and not every piece of pizza had meat on it. In fact, I'm sure if all of the meat was put together it would not even total the size of one meatball. Hubby got a meaty pizza and liked his so much that he ate every single piece of it except 2. Lol. I only ate 2 pieces of mine and gave the rest away. I forgot what craft beer hubby ordered, but he did point out there were 42 taps, I believe....you can count them if interested :-) I wasn't in the mood to drink and didn't like what I had to choose from so I went with a root beer float. Yes, that tiny cute little thing is it. In all fairness to Trailbend, it is listed as a dessert, lol. Came here on Wednesday night. It was alright. Nice beer selection. I had a sour and an IPA. My husband and I split a pizza. It wasn't the best, but I'm also a pizza snob (jk I do enjoy Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza and this wasn't that). If I go out to eat a 'gourmet' pizza though I prefer an obscure meat and cheese with a twist and this was just your basic ingredients. Giving a 4 because it was a cool ambiance to drink. I don't think I'd eat dinner again though and my pup is not welcome, so there's that. read more

Well the first time we went, this place was great. We brought our dog, sat outside, and I was able to get a pizza by subbing ground beef (which made me nauseous in pregnancy) for sausage. The second time, everything was completely different. We had to tie our dog up and she had to be completely off the patio (which isn't even attached to the restaurant and has a sidewalk in between) and there were no substitutions on pizzas. We thought it'd be a great new neighborhood place to eat with our dog, but we left and haven't gone back since. Consistent policies are important. read more

Gorgeous venue with a "million" taps to choose from. I'd give it a five, but the food prices were just a bit too steep for me. This isn't your normal tavern food though - very tasty! They have many beers, most local, to taste, a few ciders and more. The bartender was very friendly, too. I went to Trailbend a few weeks ago with some friends. While the ambiance was cozy, intimate, and lively enough, the service and bartender serving us most certainly were not. The service was slow and lackluster at best, but the last straw for me was when I said goodbye to my friends and simply went back inside to charge my phone so I could order an Uber back; even though I had no intention of drinking any more, said bartender came up to me and rudely and falsely said "I'm not serving you any more alcohol because you refused to pay me." I clearly remember paying and such passive aggressive and rude behaviour is NOT going to win you the "prestige" and "notoriety" you are trying to gain in the neo-Seattle restaurant and craft beer scene.
