While vacationing in the area, we decided to give this place a try because of the positive review we found on yelp from 2010. There truly seems to be a scarcity of places to eat dinner in the Stratton/Eustis area. When we drove up to the restaurant, we could see the place was quite popular since the parking lot was packed and a steady stream of people were entering the building. When we walked inside we saw there was a line of people waiting to be seated, nothing unusual about that. However, after we reached the head of the line, it took at least 10 to 15 minutes for someone to even recognize our existence! Clearly there were no hostesses (a major oversight, in my opinion) and the waitresses were doing all the seating (which meant very little) since they were preoccupied with taking orders. When someone finally came up to us (a waitress who had passed us about 20 times prior to addressing us) she asked if we had a reservation. When we told her we did not (who knew this was the kind of place that needed reservations?) She said she had one table left for us to sit. Relieved, we followed her and sat down at our table. And then we waited...and waited...and then, for a change of pace, waited some more. It must have been 20 minutes before someone came to take our drink order, but it felt like an eternity. We watched longingly as every table in our vicinity was waited on, sometimes repeatedly, while we sat invisible in the corner. When someone finally did ask us what we wanted to drink, we pleaded for some sort of menu to look at. Evidently, said menu did not exist. Because this was our first time here, we were pretty wide eyed and took time to look at the inside and outside of the building pretty thoroughly. That, coupled with our ample wait time, meant we would have surely noticed anything posted about a limited menu, or what the few available selections were. Some signage, at the beginning of this experience, could have saved us all a lot of frustration. Apparently, there were three or four different choices for dinner which our waitress described at break-neck speed before she turned on her heal and went on to help the next table. I couldn't tell you what they were, because she rattled them off inhumanly quickly. It was clearly a hectic night for the waitstaff, but would it really have been so hard to make sure we understood our dining options? After all, there was hardly a vast selection. From the bits and pieces we DID pick up, none of the options sounded like things we'd be interested in. Before this, we'd been contemplating walking out and going somewhere else to eat. After the brief interaction with our waitress, we were no longer on the fence about it. We both walked out of the restaurant really upset and frustrated, not to mention hungry and thirsty. I have no doubt, based on the amount of people there, that they have delicious food. They are clearly popular with the local population. However, if our experience is any indication of how they treat people that aren't already regulars, I have little doubt that this will stay a tucked away place that few travelers will want to take the time to try. read more
