I've been in this complex hundreds of times and never noticed this spot. It's located next to Starbucks. Plenty of parking. It has that old school diner vibe. Decor hasn't changed since the 70's but they do have a cc machine. I got the lunch special, split pea soup and grilled cheese for $5.95. Not bad. The soup was amazing and of course the grilled cheese was grilled to perfection. There menu is very reasonable and they had plenty of customers, however, there is only one waitress so the wait to get our check was a lil long but not horrible.

This is an outdated very charming diner. My friend and I happened upon it and it's become a favorite spot. Although it's not fancy and updated it lives up to the expectations of a diner in New Jersey. The coffee is great and hot the food is great and reasonably priced. Staff is friendly and the diner is clean.

We were visiting from out of town and looking for a diner on our drive home. This came up highly rated so we gave it a try. All our food was really good. Very typical diner stuff so nothing was out of the ordinary. My 7 year old had the French toast and he ate every bite of his and some of mine (it's usually a fight to get him to eat). I had the eggs, toast, and sausage. The sausage was really good. It wasn't the typical frozen type we usually see at a lot of diners. I also had a bagel with cream cheese which was really good and fresh. My husband had the steak and eggs and a short stack. He said it was really good. Our waitress was very very sweet and help. She brought crayons for our kids and chatted with us. Great little spot. Felt very comfortable and familiar. I wish Yelp had half stars because I would def give it a 4.5. It had nothing spectacular but everything was well done, familiar, and friendly. Would def come back again.

Photo speaks for itself !!! yummy :) This was good!

I love the old fashioned feel of the place!!! Reminds me of my childhood we use to eat in places like this. The onion rings are real and the burger is delicious!!! Yummy :)

For a diner, it fits what's expected! Nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing bad to report either.

Stopped in a few years back. Only 2 customers and no atmosphere. Appearance hasn't changed since. Food was ok at best. Maybe it's improved.

Solid on ingredients and meats. + Very nice service. They gave us a free dessert with our order. - Not a lot of flavor. Even the regular gyro, which smells wonderful, doesn't taste out of the ordinary. Avgolemono soup did not really have lemon. On the plus side, the lemon potatoes were a hit all around. + The spanakopita was crunchy crust with soft interior. ---------- The rice pudding, in my mind, had no flavor and was overstuffed with gigantic overcooked rice. The worst I've ever had. Yet the rest of my family seemed to like it?! So I just can't even. I'm not eating here again but I won't fault others who do. It's a choice, you like what you like, and again, the service was very friendly to us. But I will keep going the extra miles to Thavma in Livingston for my high quality taste.

Falafel platter with soup, fries and came with a pita. (2/5) Pita was SO HARD and stale like when you microwave a piece of bread too long. Falafel was ok but borderline frozen vibes. The fries were also soggy so maybe not the best for takeout. Soup was piping hot and tasted ok but thicker than I expected and the orzo and chicken were overcooked. So sad. Lamb-beef gyro pita (2/5) Meat was overcooked and again the pita was hard as a rock.... Sadly for the price just not worth it. We have other options in Fairfield and beyond for more quality.

There is an entrance with a ramp and stairs. I want to say that the workers at Garden State Tavern are the best! Everyone is extremely kind and welcoming. I attended a private event as this location. The room that they have is big, with plenty of windows, and very clean. They allowed us to bring in a band so having our own live music was great! They offered food in buffet style. This included pizza, chicken, and sliders. I would rate the food a 3/5. The staff was very attentive during my time there, always asking if we needed anything else.

However, the service was weak. Don't get me wrong our server was very nice and personable once he "finally" made it to our table. But the overall impression was that they were understaffed, overwhelmed and very disorganized. The appearance of the tavern is essentially unchanged from its predecessor, Brook Tap House. Which really isn't a bad thing. Tastefully appointed with lots of TV's to watch your favorite game. I just wish that they would invest in some sound deadening materials as the dining area can get very loud. I will definitely dine at GST again. Hopefully they can get their service figured out before our next visit.
