Although I'm flexible, legs are muscular and I'm in decent shape (ok...I have some pandemic poundage), NYC public school life is just DAMN. TENSE. PERIOD. I gird myself for chaotic school days that have me bending down to help my students everyday. Hubs felt I needed pampering during my MidWinter, week off Recess from work and give my body the TLC it deserves. And he was right- because I received a 1 and a 1/2 hr Deep Tissue Massage+ Facial Package as a Valentine's present. Set in the corner of Central Ave and Ardsley Rd. at the Midway Shopping Center in Scarsdale, you'd almost miss Tranquility as it's slightly towards the back of the plaza. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make an online appointment, but I called to schedule instead. Tranquillity asks gender (for massage therapists) and time preferences for your services as well as mention which amenity features are closed due to COVID: steam room, saunas, and showers. Even when I waited in the parking lot and got the green light to head in, I was ready for my aesthetician and massage therapist to work their magic. Not that I was hoping for a pony show or red carpet treatment from the woman sitting at the front desk when I checked in on a Saturday early morning, but when people spend $240 (or any other $ amount for that matter), the most I expect is a genuine smile, pleasantries and make me feel like I'm the most important person in the world- even it's for 2 seconds. None of the positives happened.... just the artificial smile. At any rate, hand over the required 'physical' form and COVID questionnaire (print from home) in order to be seen then head downstairs. Carla the aesthetician, greeted me instantly- plus had the charm, know-how and care during my European Facial. She kept her mask on and went through the motions of exfoliating, steaming and moisturizing my face with Dermalogica products til the end. I was escorted to another room for my Massage where AnneMarie(?) had her mask and face shield on, worked me from head to toe in a slow and satisfyingly firm- deep tissue and had me floating on air by the time she finished with me. Then wanted to bring her home! I felt transformed and truly got my money's worth because both my Deep Tissue Massage and Facial were exceptionally delicious! If I return is because I truly value the two ladies who made feel relaxed all over. The only downside was the bland customer service up front AND having to leave both rooms and heading back into the real world 'as I was': sleepy, disheveled and covered in those heavenly-smelling oils on my face (especially) and body. I had avoided this spa, thinking "How could could a spa in a strip mall be?" Well, today I got my answer: VERY, VERY GOOD. The service rooms are all downstairs, with comfortable seating, low lights, and hydration available while you wait. Very clean and laid-back vibe. My visit today was for waxing, so I didn't get to see the changing area but my technician, Taylor, was excellent and gave me the most pain-free service I've ever had. I will definitely return to check out their reflexology services, and maybe even book a half-day's worth of treatment here in the near future. read more

I had the best Swedish massage here. It's hands down the best one I've had ever. This was my first time here and I really wasn't sure what to expect. I was impressed with the place itself. They take you down to a calm downstairs area which is nice to get away from the business of the shopping center. They give you a cozy robe and rubber slippers. I found that the women's locker room, changing stalls and bathroom were really clean. The lounge area was cozy too, and wasn't really loud besides people coming and going, which wasn't disturbing. I got a massage by Laura, and she was amazing. She was very polite and was thorough. She really listened to what I liked and what sort of pressure I wanted. I've been to Tranquility Spa many times and never wrote a review as I've been trying to keep this wonderful place all to myself but I figured I need to share it with the rest of the world. This spa is absolutely fantastic!!! My husband and I always go together for spa week. Each and every time we go we're greeted by the friendly people at the front desk. After checking in you are promptly given your locker key and slippers to go change. The locker rooms are spic and span clean with toiletries in the changing rooms area as well as the toilet area. There are showers and a steam room with towels everything is extremely clean - kudos to the cleaning staff there. They also provide you with a robe which is stored in each locker. The large waiting area is again, extremely clean, dimly lit with small couches located throughout. There's soft music playing and magazines on the tables to read. They provide regular water, water with fresh lemons, cookies and dried fruit for their customers. I noticed this time they were also offering hot tea. We've never had to wait long for our massage therapists, however, the waiting area is so nice that you don't mind waiting. The therapists come out to get you - shake your hand and introduces themselves to you. We've had a couple of different therapists so the first thing they ask is if this is our first time - since it isn't we get right down to business. We've had both the swedish and deep tissue massages and we love them both. Low lighting, soft music and being massaged from head to toe makes for a very happy couple! After each massage the therapist meets you outside with a cup of water- a very nice touch. If you get on their email list they'll send you emails with specials that they run from time to time - definitely something to look into in between spa weeks. After going to tranquility spa I don't think I will ever first another spa in the NYC area. It's a wonderful place. read more

I have gone to tranquility for years. I loved the spa and the techs were great, however it only takes one person and one experience to ruin a good thing. HORRIBLE customer service. The manager is rude and abrasive. Living through covid and being a business that is reliant on their customers feeling comfortable coming to purchase services when most still do not- you would think and hope they would take this into consideration. If you gift or receive a gift card to this spa note you have a year to use it. If you have a two services gift card/ package they will not let you know that your other service will expire by a certain date. If you call to book and they pull up your gift card they will not let you know your gift card has expired and you will be charged. Who would think a gift card expires?! I feel I should have been told that before gifting a gift card. read more

The massage was wonderful ... but aside from that, for the pricing they charge, they should have better customer service. I was greeted by staff who make you feel like you're attending a doctors office... Melissa at the front desk was was particularly obnoxious... also the decor looks like it hasn't been update since the late 80s. Again the massage was really nice and claiming but I left feeling a little stressed out because of the way I was treated at the front desk. I am a long time customer & was a bit skeptical at first for what measures they were taken to abide by the COVID-19 criteria & I am well pleased. Although we're not able to utilize the changing area, there are no snacks, you DO change in your room & everything is sanitized! They book appropriately for social distance & they have you fill out two forms prior. If you're planning on going to Tranquility Spa the most important thing for you to know is the business policy they don't dare advertise. As quoted by the owner of the establishment "THE CLIENT ISN'T ALWAYS RIGHT"! BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! What started out as a nice experience to relieve some holiday stress ended with disrespect and a ton of attitude. When you go to an established business you expect professionalism and customer service, especially in the current climate. After getting services done my mother and I were treated to a surprise additional payment that we were expected to pay no questions asked. There was a innocent mix-up and instead of getting consideration and respect we were treated like con artists trying to get one over on the disorganized and helpless desk staff. They felt they didn't have to take any responsibility for the mix-up in services and it was somehow all our fault, the paying customers who are not all knowing when it comes to Tranquility's policies, practices and services . I would expect there to be a sense of accountability on the part of the staff if they want to maintain relationships with clients and build trust. I guess NOT. The owner was not on premise when the exchange happened so I paid the remaining amount and asked for a call to hopefully get a refund or at the very least an apology for the way we were treated. The owner did give me a call back, not to offer her acknowledgment of the grievance however, she only threw salt on the wound. I'm dumbfounded by the conversation I had with her and I can second the other reviewers comments when she says that her demeanor was rude and abrasive. Instead of an apology there was more customer shaming and lack of responsibility taken on the owners end who was the one to take our booking down! I don't understand how this person is working in the customer service business as she clearly lacks the principals to maintain client's happiness and loyalty once they've paid for and received services at your establishment. Took my boyfriend to Tranquility Spa yesterday for a deep tissue with Estella and I must say she never disappoints. Her deep tissue massage and attention to detail is amazing, was worth my hour drive there and back! I experienced her work several months ago and I just new It would be the perfect treat for his tense body. We appreciated the services and the sweet young lady at the front desk (whose name i failed to get) for her help in re-booking our massage time. I will continue to patronize this establishment. AHMazing. The layout, staff, locker rooms, amenities, snacks and most of all the quality of the massages are hard to beat. My bf and I have taken full advantage of the Couples Massage on a few different occasions. If that's your jam then I highly recommend booking an appt asap. He's actually the first one to intro me to the place and it has now become a frequent bimonthly stop for us. You arrive to a warm fuzzy robe and sandals. We always get there early so we can take advantage of the steam rooms in our respective locker rooms and unwind. We then cheers over infused water and cookies which are prominently displayed in the seating area downstairs. By now we're pumped to meet our masseuses and jump onto our heated tables. I think they always do a great job of asking in advance what kind of pressure you're looking for, any problem areas or areas of desired focus, etc. Before you know it you hear a faint whisper, the lights begin to raise a bit, your eyes slowly start to open and lying next to your partner you feel nothing short of euphoric. This continues to be a priority stop for us even during the hectic times that life brings. My deep tissue massage with Doug was fabulous. Very thorough and professional. The sauna afterwards was ideal! However, I'm rating the spa OVERALL. Despite the signs indicating that quiet should be observed, the waiting area was loud, noisy and not at all relaxing. This included not only guests but the staff talking loud and having personal conversations with each other. The waiting area was VERY crowded. The customer service could improve as well. I wanted to offer feedback about my massage therapist (he really was amazing) but they were not at all interested in hearing about my experience when I checked out. That's too bad. I'll return for the services but keep expectations low if you're looking to enjoy a relaxing environment as part of your overall spa experience. Massages seemed, before Tranquility, to be a luxury I could live without. But my mom's been here many times for facials and has raved about it, so, curiosity piqued and back aching, I entreated my boyfriend to get me a gift certificate for a massage for my birthday. They have a really strict cancellation policy that they make abundantly clear when you make your appt, so that irked me a tiny bit. But I can't think of one other tiny little thing that bothered me! You walk in to the storefront off of garish Central Avenue, and extremely professional, polite staff members at the desk direct you to fill out a form documenting any injuries and health conditions. Then you are led (if it is your first time) downstairs into the serene, windowless downstairs area, right into the softly (forgivingly) lit locker room. Your locker is ready for you, complete with the softest, snuggliest robe in the universe, and you can change at your leisure in one of the changing rooms. When you're ready, you make your way into the waiting area (at first I felt a little awkward in my robe and silly slippers, but everyone's wearing the same thing) to wait for your masseuse or facialist or other magician. Everyone speaks softly and pleasantly, new agey music plays in the background without being annoying, and a fountain trickles. You can help yourself to herb infused water and sprawl on the plush couches. They do the massages in little rooms that are dimly lit, with heated massage beds. I almost died from happiness when I crawled under that warm velvety sheet. I wish I remembered the name of the masseuse, but she was fantastic. The only thing I will request differently next time is of my boyfriend-- for an hour Swedish instead of the half hour Swedish/half hour reflexology combo. I liked the reflexology, but the massage was something I could get used to, like, on a weekly basis, if I were a lady of leisure. Random notes: -Leave extra time before and after so that you can relax in the waiting area, and use their sauna and showers. The locker room is fully stocked with anything you can imagine (even mouthwash!). -There seemed to be as many men customers as women. -You must hand over your driver's license to ensure return of the loaned sandals. Dude, the sandals are nothing special. I guess it's more to make sure no one massages and dashes. -The purchaser of a gift certificate can include the gratuity if the purchaser buys you a specific service, so the best part of my massage was breezing out without having to pay a cent. I appreciated the plenty of parking outside, the beautiful and clean environment, the variety of services they have available and the availability of the services. There are a few things I do have issues with, the therapist I had was extremely good. She worked hard to help my neck relax but she gave me such a short massage. She actually gave me a 50 min massage instead of the 60 mins. She took alot of time getting the room ready and letting me get dressed. The prices here are a bit high as well. It's not a personable spa since it's very big here. OVerall it's pretty good. Give it a try but it's a bit pricey. read more

We have been under a lot of stress lately, and decided a couples massage was just what the doctor ordered. As we were sitting in the waiting area, we learned that although we booked a couples massage, we infact had two massages, in two different rooms. My massage was great - I always request the same person. However, his was not. He left there so cranky that it was totally not worth it. Also, with everyone coming and leaving at the same time, it is sometimes a challenge to get into one of their two showers. What was to be a nice relaxing experience created more stress - not worth it. read more

I came here for the first time in 9/12/2020 for a massage. I was referred by a friend. I called to make an appointment the day before and they had availability. They have you sign health forms for your arrival. They also ask that you call when you're outside so they can call you when your room is ready. I felt very safe while inside. Everyone had masks. The masseuse was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs and led me directly to my room. My masseuse was Joe. Very nice and informative of the process. It was my first massage ever and joe was great! The pressure was just right and I left feeling so relaxed and brand new. I would recommend him to anyone! No complaints here. I gave them 4 stars because I wasn't able to experience all of their amenities, since they are still closed because of COVID, but not they're fault. For the past few days I have been suffering with back pain. After consulting with my doctor, I decided to try a massage with CBD oil. My therapist evaluated my situation and treated me using excellent judgement. Between the ice, heat,CBD oil and wonderful massage , my back is so much better !! I've never had the pleasure of going into this spa as every time I have tried to book an appointment, they request a credit card. This seems off color and in poor taste to me. I have never heard of any place doing this, for any service. It doesn't even sound legal. If you have to reschedule they charge you for half of your appointment? Before my wedding day, I was treating myself to a facial/day of beauty and called to book-I declined when I was told I had to give a credit card. Spent hundreds elsewhere without having to provide a credit card number. Went in recently to give them another shot-was willing to have services right then and there but they were booked up-again, wouldn't allow me to book an appointment without a credit card. I choose not to give them another chance after this attempt. I don't feel this is a fair practice, so I won't patronize them. read more

They put my needs first. The massage was wonderful. Christine is a professional and I found it very relaxing. I took full advantage of all of the amenities and felt so relaxed, refreshed, an rejuvenated. The only drawback was foot traffic through the relaxation room. I'm a big fan of tranquility and have been since their old location. Everyone there is very professional and the environment is clean and comforting. I do have one or two massage therapists that I ask for but overall I have never left disappointed. They offer a lot of services that I have not taken advantage of. I use the steam room, shower and get massages. The waiting area is very comfortable and they have water and snacks while you wait. Though last time I was there a group of about 5 women waiting and they were very loud but it's normally is very quiet and relaxing. Tranquility is my #1 choice when in need of relaxation. The women who greet you as you enter are usually very sweet. They recently updated the lockers to keyless locks that use a card which is nice to see that they are reinvesting in the business. read more
