The drinks here are really nice, as are the selection of small plates. But the entrees and service really leave much to be desired. The wait is always really long, and it is incredibly noisy. So I have been here twice. First time came with my coworker and we ordered burgers. They were not very good. Hard to not like a burger but tasted very salty and dry. Came back again with my fiance and tried some appetizers with drinks. These were pretty good we had a brussel sprout salad, tempura battered green beans and lettuce wraps. Service was slow and was brought wrong wine, cleared up situation but was still charged for wrong drink on top of the one I wanted. I was totally impressed with my experience at TRATA last night. I was in a part of 14 and the the service was fast, friendly, talented and engaging. I ate the Kobe beef burger special and it was on par with the amazing burger at Good Luck, and the courses came out with perfect timing. I so looked forward to the food tasting as good it sounded but alas the food did look pretty but was not cooked to order.

I will start off by echoing that the aesthetics of this place are very eye pleasing and comfortable. The modern use of wood, glass and brick is very tasteful and lends a cool vibe to the joint. I caught myself looking around a lot and appreciating all of the choices that were made by the designer, which were only enhanced by the huge windows and views of Cobbs Hill Park. Unfortunately, while the concept is great, the menu - interesting, and the beer list incredible, outside of a few exceptions, the food was good (not great) and didn't quite meet my expectations. Being pregnant, I didn't get to imbibe in the many alcoholic offerings, but did manage to enjoy a lovely non-alcoholic mojito. It is definitely not a classic take on the beloved drink, but I found the twists quite enjoyable. The ginger flavoring made it reminiscent of root beer, I really enjoyed the drink, but again it is definitely a departure from the classic flavors, which might turn some people off, for me - it hit the spot! Our table started out with onion rings and the duck quesadilla. The onion rings were perfectly battered, and delicious. I was a bit surprised that it didn't come with ketchup or any sauce, and that we had to ask for it, but once the server brought out the requested ketchup, this tasty treat was definitely enjoyed by all. On the flip side, the duck quesadilla didn't quite hit the mark. I didn't find the taste to live up to the description and I definitely would not have known that any of the ingredients listed were actually in there if I hadn't read the menu item myself. For the main meal the other guests at my table all went for burgers. My husband ordered the Caprese Burger with fries and raved about all of it! One member of my party had the turkey burger and mac and cheese, which she finished happily, and the other had the classic american burger and caramelized brussels. He found the veggie side to be on the bitter side and barely ate any of it. I had the fish tacos and sweet potato fries. Let me start with the good - the fries were ginormous (obviously cut straight from the biggest yams or sweet potatoes they could find) and the sauce that was served with them were the perfect compliment. I do wonder if they would have been as good without the sauce ... mostly everything I tasted was under seasoned and under salted in particular. I concentrated the majority of my dinner on said plate of fries - the fry/sauce combo was really good and because I was sorely disappointed by the fish tacos. I am a HUGE fan of fish tacos normally, but found the fish (mahi) to be under-seasoned, which unfortunately wasn't made up for by the accoutrements - I wouldn't recommend ordering them. For my palate, they were just okay and definitely not something I would look forward to eating again. Overall I would rate the food that I tasted a low B-, despite the few standouts, the ambiance A, and the service A-. The runner for our table was a total gem - so accommodating, so nice, and did everything with a smile and great attitude. I will come back again to try out some of the other menu items, but I wouldn't say it's my first choice or even in my top 5 for dining out in Rochester. read more

Been there for lunch several times. Atmosphere is great, quite unique for here and open too. Good accessible location close to downtown, east end and suburbs. Service is attentive but not overbearing. Menu variety is good and choices tempting. Food (for lunch have not done dinner) is good, lets say a 4. For lunch it's half empty so haven't had some of the delays others referenced. So why only 3-A-OK? because they need to comply with health code and have a functioning sink in the men's room. It does no good to post a placard in the sink that is it broken that one doesn't see until AFTER using the toilet. Really disgusting. At least they could have had some waterless hand sanitizer there to help. Since they have no webpage for comments I called and since they have no one answering the phone, I left a voicemail for one of the managers (listed 3 or 4). Hygiene must not be an issue since no one acknowledged my concern. read more

Have been here a few times for food and drink. Atmosphere is unique and unlike anything in Rochester and definitely worth checking out. Drinks are reasonable, although the wine list is really lacking in French wines. Food is just so-so and is not as good as the other restaurants owned by the same people (Black&Blue and JoJo). We had the jalapeno dip and homemade crackers. Crackers were good but needed salt, but the dip was TOO salty (and I like salty food). For our entrees we split the thai coconut curry shrimp and the short ribs. Short ribs were very good, but the potato cake underneath was bland and non-memorable. The curry shrimp was also just OK. I have had much better at Asian restaurants where you are charged half as much. The curry didn't have any kick to it, while it had the right flavors, there just was nothing that was special about it. The noodles came in a large mound on the bottom of the dish and hadn't been stirred in and had congealed all together. Overall, we might return for drinks and maybe appetizers but feel no need to return for dinner. We'd rather go to Cure or Rocco or any number of upscale restaurants in Rochester where the quality of the food is a bit higher. read more

Lunch today was amazing! It is not frequently that I am able to lunch on a weekday. Today proved that I need to lunch more! It was a late lunch (3pm). For an extra treat I ordered the very tasty IPA special of the day. The brussel sprout salad offered so many flavors! I added chicken. It was a perfectly orchestrated meal! The website says the bar opens at 11AM on a Saturday, the door had the time scribbled out and replaced with a 4:00PM and we arrived at 4:15. The two hostesses working stared at us so we asked if they were open and the one hostess replied "I don't know". She went into the bar where the bartender was cutting lemons and came back and told us they would open at 4:30 would we mind waiting outside (in the rain). We walked out and will never be back. It was our fifth anniversary and spent our 200 dollars for the evening elsewhere. Why any business would be empty after the time they advertise they open and turn two customers away into the rain is absolutely beyond me. When they first opened, this place was awesome. The food was good and the beer list was decent. It has always been a little overpriced but it wasn't so glaring as it is now. We usually give this place a shot once a year to see how it is going. The past few visits have been disappointing. The last was for brunch a few days ago. I will start by saying our server was probably the only nice part of the meal. She was nice and understanding even if we were overlooked for a good 45 minutes after we placed our order while we waited for food. My wife ordered the veg and egg, which is a veggie burger with a poached egg on it. When she got the food, the poached egg was boiled hard and the whole dish was room temperature. When we mentioned it, a microwaved replacement was brought out rapidly. I had ordered the Eggs Benedict and one of my poached eggs was also cooked hard. Whoever was in charge of eggs should figure out what they are doing. My mother-in-law got a waffle patty melt special. She wasn't asked how she would like the burger cooked and when it arrived it was pretty much a dry rubber tire. Combine that experience with the fact that the only thing they have updated on the menu are the specials and this place just doesn't wow like it once did. Food was meh at best, service was slow and it's always extremely noisy. I also can't get over how pretentious some of the hostesses seem. This was my first brunch experience here, and I was rather disappointed with my meal. I am harder on breakfast/brunch food reviews because those should be easy enough to do right. I will say that our server was delightful and attentive -- he had a number of larger tables full of groups to attend to, so he gets two big thumbs up from me for taking good care of us! My omlette however, was completely flat and over cooked (dry, and dark brown on one side) which they tried to hide by folding it inward (I get that a hot griddle will cook things fast, but you can't mistake the taste of an almost-burnt egg)-- it was also stingy on the filling, with exception for the onions, despite me asking for none. Unless something is undercooked (like chicken) or has a hair in it, I never send things back, so I powered through it. The potatoes were also luke-warm at best. I have certainly had better at a diner, and for much less in cost. It is unlikely I will return for brunch again, nor would I recommend it, which is unfortunate because it's a really lovely space, aesthetically speaking. Their cocktails have not disappointed, so that would be my only reason for returning. read more

I was new to the area, and a tinder date suggested the place. I have to say I was blown away by the place, absolutely stunning. She never got a call back from me, but Trata will definitely have second visit from me. First the design! The three levels from the door to the bathrooms is so gorgeous. It'll cause you to step back and marvel at the design and look of it all. All night I couldn't completely keep my focus on my date, I was more impressed with the place. The wait/bartender staff's attire is great! The hostess were so nice and polite during the wait. We ate at the third floor bar. Our bartender felt the situation and didn't interject with our first date, which is understandable, but a cracked joke to break the ice would of been nice. We had a couple glasses of wine and loaded fries with chopped up steak, which was alright. The entires were more tasty and appetizing. I had a Thai shrimp dish. For a two person date came to about $76. Which I think was perfect. Every thing in Rochester is only 20 minutes away from where you are, so if you are Rochester native and haven't checked out Trata, this is a must date night restaurant. read more

To celebrate my birthday.....we wanted to try something different, somewhere we had never been before....it was a BIG birthday and wanted somewhere perfect! We found the place! TRATA......it was just the right place to celebrate with the one you love! We chose a Sunday night because it was my actual birthday and being on the weekend we felt there were going to be less of a crowd! From our walk thru the door, we were impressed. We were greeted by staff and they were enthusiastic and carried on a conversation with us like we were old friends. Since we had reservations, off we went to our table. Pamela was our waitress and she was the best. Very friendly and offered her "happy birthday" to me and offered suggestions, knowledge of the menu and was full of life! Dinner was the best and presented like a picture. Pamela checked on us thru out our dinner and her timing was exact! She even brought over a little desert with a candle. :) She told us to go and explore the rest of TRATA and we did and we were quite impressed! One of the staff even took our picture! First try was on a Saturday night. Smart to come early (5 to 6 ish) for good seating and no wait. We started with two appetizers- the lettuce wraps, which were light and the soy sauce oh so tasty - and the Lamb quesadillas. Crisp, delicious, perfect portion size. We tried two specials tonight- the Swordfish over Bay Scallop Rissotto and the Braised Lamb Shank over vegetables. Swordfish was perfect. Juicy, flaky, perfect. Rissotto was tasty. Lamb shank was so delicious, in a reduced sauce. The meat fell off the bone. I LOVE lamb and this dish was soooo good! Tried dessert too. I had the four layer chocolate cake, by which I judge every restaurant's desserts. The cake was moist, dark chocolate, and milk chocolate real buttercream. My husband ordered the cinnamon bun with pecan praline ice cream. The cinnamon bun was warm, and just the right tenderness and flavor, without being overpowering. The ice cream tasted homemade. Our waiter was Andy- a real gem! Andy was helpful, attentive and friendly. Overall, a great experience. There was not one thing on the menu that didn't appeal. So I'm sure we will be back again and again. The atmosphere is great. Not too noisy. Plenty of space, so you don't feel crowded. The timing of the dishes is perfect; leisurely and not rushed. Trata is hip and seems like a great place for after work drinks. Both their cocktail list and food menu put a twist on classics. Dark mojito and the short rib burger were excellent. The burger is a perfect combo of sweet and salty, and the above average fries are a perfect side. Place is huge with lots of seating upstairs, with the only downside being the noise level. read more
