We had a nice meal here. We showed up around 6:30pm and didn't have a reservation. We were given a great seat inside. At first with the issue of not having an English menu and a not so great waiter at first, seriously we were about to walk out. Then a different waiter came to help us and explained the entire menu and was very nice. It turned our meal around and we had a very good time. The tortellini stuffed with pear was very good, and much different flavor than anything I have ever had in an Italian dish. My wife had the ravioli with pumpkin filling and slices of ham on top. Both were great. We had a salad prior to this with spinach, arugula, pine nuts, tomato, and avocado. Highly recommend. Great place recommended by our Segway tour guide and it lived up to expectations. We stopped there on Wednesday around 6pm and the first reservation was for 9:30....no problem for us. As noted by the other posters, the Florentine steak was out of this world! According to our guide, you SHOULD NOT ask for a different meat temp, the chef will be insulted (and it wouldn't be the real Florentine steak. It was really nice that they show you the raw steak before it is cooked. The pear/cheese pockets were as good a described and we also shared a spicy (REAL spicy) pasta dish. A a bit of a wine snob, I was nervous about the house wine, but again it was a wonderful complement to our dishes. And yes, the Albanian waiter is a real pleasure! read more

Wonderful experience. We ate here twice and both times it was fabulous. The first time we had the ricotta ravioli which was delicious and the meatballs that were very good. I should have ordered spinach as a side with the meatballs though. The second time we had the pear ravioli which was very very good. It was a sweeter taste inside but was well balanced with the sauce. My partner had the spaghetti with tomato and ricotta and that was very good. The side is spinach was pretty good too, simple flavours (olive oil and a bit of lemon?). For desert we had cheese cake which was sensational and chocolate cake which was more of a torte. We had a very late lunch but it wasn't a problem since the place is always open. The staff was very warm and kind, they suggested us which was the most heated table - we wanted to seat outside to enjoy the passers by Piazza della Passera (ask any Italian what Passera Square means). We had artichoke as starters: next time, I'm gonna skip the main course and just have three starters. The best artichokes I had in years. Better then my grandma's. Then we had pear pasta and "ribollita". Both ok, but nothing worth mentioning. I was expecting a bit more quality, actually. The house wine - a Chianti Classico - is really good. So I certainly cannot give this restaurant 5 stars because the blatant racism my friend and I faced at the hands of one of the men here was ridiculous. However, a very nice women came and checked him, seated us, and took our order and served us herself. Getting past that I enjoyed some of the best Italian pasta one could ever have in their life. It was absolutely incredible. I enjoyed the pear, walnut, and gorgonzola pasta that was good enough for me to book a return trip to Florence. This place did not reflect the great reviews that prompted me to go there. Didn't do anything for me in terms of food. The decor was charming. The pear ravioli in cream sauce was almost inedible for me. The sauce almost resembled the consistency of a thick mayo. I simply ate the ravioli independent of the cream sauce. The lasagna came out cold. Then had to go back to the kitchen to be reheated. So fair to say that I was far from pleased after the first course. Every year this restaurant gets worse and worse. The waiters are always arrogant, the food substantially drops in quality, and the lack of care for customers has dwindled away. The food comes out cold, the quality is worse than the tourist- trap restaurants by the Duomo, and the waiters treat guests awfully because they know that they can get away with it. Check out some of the less commercial establishments in the area. They'll enjoy sharing their food with you, serve you with passion, and not charge you nearly as much for food that's twice as fresh and flavourful. read more

I came to this restaurant in March with locals and then tonight with my mom as a tourist. What a difference in the way the owners treat tourist. Extremely disrespectful, and rude. The food here is good, with a big following so I guess that's why the owners feel that they can treat the tourist so poorly. The first thing the owner said was that we can only have the table for an hour and a half. They seated us in the worst seats. My 80 year old mom's chair kept getting bumped. We asked if we could change to one of the many tables that were available (we were there at 6:30pm, before the dinner rush) and they refused. We even asked if we could move inside to the table they had originally offered us (by the kitchen) and they refused and began yelling at us in front of everyone. We didn't want to make a fuss so I changed seats with my mom. I don't care how good the food is, no one deserves to be berated in front of others. We had dinner at Trattoria 13 Gobbi a few nights ago, which is by far the best restaurant in Florence with a line out the door. We were not given a time limit, given a great table with other locals, and they treated us so kindly. Think twice before going to this restaurant, the food is not worth it. read more

Packed restaurant, three separate people with no connection to each other told me to eat there back in my hometown, so I was really looking forward to it. Well... they lost our reservation, and the maitre'd offered no apologies and was pretty mean about it. He was very challenging, didn't believe us that we had a reservation and did not make us feel like we were wanted. He shut up once I pulled up the e-mail confirmation to prove it, but still no apology and refused to look at us at all. Finally, five minutes after looking at the e-mail and saying nothing to us (leaving us twisting in the wind), a waiter came and beckoned us over. CONFIRM YOUR RESERVATIONS! The waiter was OK -- quiet and not really interested in smiling or talking to us. The other waiter in the room was fantastic as we could overhear him interacting with guests and we were jealous. OK, the food. I had the pear pasta and beef course as a second dish. The pear pasta was fantastic, they really hit a home run with the pear but the pasta itself was a bit lacking. The pear pasta at La Giostra is probably an overall better buy because of the quality of pasta. The beef dish (with peppers -- peposo) was unreal and a real home run. The tiramisu for dessert was fantastic, but didn't separate itself. The cheesecake was insanely good and a strong recommend. Overall, I was disappointed due to the hype of the people that had sent me there. Obviously, my night got off to a lousy start which did color the rest of the night, but even then, the food didn't knock my socks off like it did at other places I ate in Italy. 4 Leoni is my favorite restaurant in Florence... The waitstaff always remembers me and are always very helpful with the menu (which is only in Italian). The pasta alla cinghiale is absolutely amazing, the avocado and pine nut salad is also really good, but the one thing that really steals the show is their homemade berry cheesecake!! We ate the traditional Bisstecca alla Fiorentina here and it was delicious! The waiter pushed a side on us as well, which was unnecessary since we ate caprese as an appetizer. He also didn't mention that the sides are a la carte, so we paid 7 Euros extra for food we barely touched. However, the beef was perfect and the setting was pleasant and romantic (they have an outside patio on a little square on the South side of the Arno). Rude service who literally lied in order to charge us more. When we arrived I asked for tap water, as I did not want to be charged for a bottle. However when I looked at the check I saw a charge for water. When I asked about it the waitress lied by saying the tap water in Florence isn't drinkable. This is not true--look it up! She was very irritable and rude through all our interactions with her. Beyond that, the food was very pricey without being either large or very tasty. I had the penne with the bolognese which, unfortunately, was a little too salty for my tongue but overall still good. House wine? House wine!!!! Finished off with some limoncello and a piece of cheesecake that was as fluffy as air and very tasty. We're from the United States but Bajram (Byron) made it super easy for us to order.
