We tried out Trattoria da Giorgio after reading good things on Yelp. If I could give half stars, I would only give this place 2.5 given the "value" for money compared to some other places, but I rounded down to 2 because I really feel the need to let people know, it really doesn't deserve the majority of 5 stars it's been getting. Yes, you get water, wine, a starter, main meal and a side of your choice, but to be completely honest we found the food to be quite bland and not overly flavoursome. Yes, it's simple. And we love simple. But simple has to be done WELL to work. But, I digress... It's a typical Italian trattoria, with many tables and customers squeezed into a small space. You are basically sitting at communal tables in the end as you are elbow to elbow with your dining neighbours, but this is something I actually love about Italy. It gives the place a good buzzy vibe. If you are looking for something more quiet and romantic, you will have to keep looking! Sparkling water and the house red wine were delivered quickly to our table. The house wine in Italy is actually generally very nice, and this again proved to be the case. The husband had the truffle & mushroom pasta to start, followed by the meatballs with a side of vegetables. I had the curried prawns with rice and the veal scaloppine with Marsala sauce also with a side of vegetables (trying to up our greens intake in a country full of pizza and pasta) Our two starters weren't too bad. Not standouts, but definitely passable. The pasta was probably the winner of the two, but was really quite salty. For the mains, my veal was probably the winner. The poor husband's meatballs came out with no sauce on a bed of rocket. They weren't flavoursome and were quite bland and a little dry. My veal was quite nice, the sauce passable. The vegetables were a mixture of carrot, broccoli and a couple of beans. We didn't bother with dessert, instead opting for gelato on the walk home. All in all it was an ok experience. One that actually finally made us wary of Yelp reviews for the remainder of our trip to Italy (this wasn't the first disappointing experience we had based on Yelp). Of course, I can only speak for the reviews in English, as I don't speak Italian. And likewise, everyone has different tastes, so I completely understand that something which is not my cup of tea, might be right up someone else's alley. If you are after a simple, but relatively plain & bland, value for money multiple course meal, all inclusive of wine, then check it out. When my wife and I went to Florence, we made the decision that we were not going to waste any dinners there, and this place was one of our favorites, and at 13 euro per person prix fixe (INCLUDING WINE,) it's also one of the best deals we found! We took a lot of our dining recommendations from the Rick Steves Italy book, which was where we found this place, so like most places that are recommended by St. Rick, as we came to know him on our trip, this place was a) crowded (we waited for about 20 minutes for a table...) and b)AT LEAST half filled with Americans, so if that's not your cup of tea, there's your heads up. When we did get a table though, it was WELL worth the wait. As soon as we set foot in the restaurant, we caught the whiff of truffle oil coming from the kitchen so we were VERY optimistic for the meal. For the first course I had the gnocchi with gorgonzola and my wife had the homemade pasta with truffles and mushrooms. For the second course, I got grilled Tuscan sausages with potatoes and my wife, (who should be noted doesn't like to eat veal..) got the veal with saffron. Everything was cooked perfectly, tasted absolutely delicious, and the portion sizes were very generous. With the service charge included we were out the door for 28 euro, and I can honestly say that we had lots of other meals in Florence that this was just as good as that we paid twice as much for. read more

I got a giant roasted pork flank with side of salad, free bread, red wine and their home made pasta with mushroom and truffle which is to die for... The smell and taste of truffle!... The only OK dish was probably the truffle & mushroom pasta but the roast beef, balsamic chicken, beans, eggplant, and everything else was mediocre! Everything came out lukewarm and was pretty bland. The weirdest part of our meal was that there were 3 of us sitting at a 4 person table, and the waiter sat an individual eating alone at our table! Very good place to eat for dinner. Reasonably priced (1st course + second course + wine + water) for 15€ and no sit down fee. Only negatives was that the water was not sealed and there were bones in the cod fish. Other than that everything was delicious. I had the bufala caprese for my main dish and the spicy pasta for my first - they were both very good and it came with a side salad as well! This was the best and amazingly, most affordable dinner that my wife and I had on our entire honeymoon in Italy. This trattoria is walkable from just about anywhere in downtown Florence. For 15 euros each, you get salad, a first course (pasta), main course, 1/2 a liter of wine (2 glasses) and bottled water. My wife had a truffled pici (fresh pasta) that was so fragrant I could still smell truffle hours later, along with a beef stew main course that was rich and hearty after a long day of sightseeing around the city. I had the best mushroom risotto ever, and I make really good risotto at home in the states. I think the exact words out of my mouth when I tasted it were, "Mine sucks compared to this". My main course was a monster, tender, juicy roast pork shank that was wonderfully seasoned. Service was excellent and the recreations of famous renaissance paintings give a great feel to the place. We came here tonight for dinner based on the positive Yelp reviews and good deal they offered. 14 euro for one pasta + one meat + one side, wine and water. Note they add a 1 euro service charge. I ordered the ravioli in butter sage sauce and the pork cutlet in white wine with walnuts. I thought both lacked flavor but were still ok. My girlfriend had the truffle and mushroom pasta and beef stew. She liked both her dishes (definitely were better than mine) but we both agreed it wasn't anything outstanding. Our experience at Trattoria da Giorgia was great in terms of food but horrible in terms of service. We ordered the margarita pizza and penne with eggplant sauce (featured below). This pasta was hands down in the top three pastas I had during my stay in Italy. I could not stop eating once I took the first bite and since I sampled this at the beginning of our trip, I compared all other eggplant based pasta sauces to this one. I would recommend this restaurant to all travelers if it weren't for the service. We waited for the menus, waited for a longer than normal period of time to give our orders, and waited even longer to get our food. Although the restaurant seemed understaffed for the night, we weren't even informed of the situation and no apologies were made about the inconvenience. Fantastic Friday night dinner! My husband and I were only in town for 2 days, so we decided to try this place out as it was only about 3 minutes from the B&B we were staying at. We were certainly not disappointed by the service, quality, and value of the food. He had the pasta with mussels and clams to start with while I had the homemade pasta with black truffle and mushroom. My husband is not typically into pasta, but raved about his first course. I'm an avid pasta eater, and this was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. For a second course, he had the steak with arugula and parmesan and I had the pork cutlet with marsala and walnuts... No words to describe that sauce, so great! We both had the fresh green beans for a side. As others have mentioned, all this along with water and wine and beer for 30 euro. This place was memorable and such a find in Florence. They have a fixed menu where you get a first course and a main course and a 1/2 liter of wine for about 14 Euros dinner. The food was delicious and you could tell there were a lot of locals eating there always a good sign. I had the truffle pasta and it didn't disappoint and I thank my fellow yelpers for recommending that. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out medium well. I tried my friends steak which was perfectly medium rare and it was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Great value! 13/14 euro (lunch/dinner) for a shit ton of food. Tried 3 dishes and 1 was the true winner - the roasted pork shank (secondi). It fell off the bone and was huge!!! The mushroom/truffle pasta was a bit overcooked and not al dente, but was fresh and the sauce had a nice porcini flavor with a hint of mushroom. Sauce was basic but good. I am the first to admit that the pastas are probably not homemade fresh daily, but the menu di giorno (menu of the day) still provided really good options. I ordered the ribollita soup which is a local soup made with leftovers including white beans, seasonal vegetables, olive oil, and stale bread. OMG, it was one of the best soups I've ever had. My husband had pappardelle al sugo di lepre which is a broad, long noddle with a wild boar sauce. For our secondi's, I had chicken in a masala sauce and my husband had veal (we split them 50/50). You also get a vegetable and we ordered artichokes and a salad. We were both a little bummed though that we ate so late this evening. We walked there and this was off the tourist area in a shady part of town. Luckily, we were able to get a table right away. Dinner was 15 euros for set menu which seemed like a great deal. Overall, food was mediocre but I guess you get what you pay for. Worst part was when the bill came, we were charged an additional 2 euros for service charge when the menu explicitly stated that it was included and the table next to us didn't get this charge (as they were locals). This place is great food at a surprisingly great price. Water, house wine and two courses are included in the fixed price menu (15 euro I think). They also have ala carte but I would only recommend that if you are looking for a Florentine steak. 5 stars for the value of the meal.
