Great family run restaurant with good food! The Traverso brothers are always there and will always make it right if anything goes wrong. Very comfortable and nicely decorated. This is your traditional Italian restaurant with a standard menu. There were 5 in our party on a Friday. Most ordered the ravioli which were very good. I had the spaghetti & meatballs which was ok not great. Restaurant was busy for 5:00. Seems like they have some regulars in the bar area. Our server was good. We had a late luncheon in their private room after a funeral- a hard day for many. The server in charge, her help and the owner were terrific, just what everyone needed. Service took a while and gluten free pizza and regular pizza was awful. The cheese was weird, it was like it was non fat or dairy free.

We have been patron's of Traverso's for years but tonight we had the worst service ever. Our waitress, Char, was very rude and abrupt. It took over 90 minutes to get our food and even then, it was wrong. The manager, Michael, was very little help. We will not be visiting this restaurant again and will be advising those we know to avoid it as well. read more

Traversos is always our Calamari go to, aside from it being priced right it's just really good and always fresh. The baby backrib was really soft and taste very good. We ordered the thin crust pizza tonight but it taste very rubbery, nothing fantastic about it but I would still give them a 5 because they always deliver on time and we love their calamari so much! read more

What in the world happened! Who's making the pizzas these days? Have ordered take out twice since the pandemic. Each time ordered fresh basil after the pizza was cooked. No basil either time. This was not a problem when we dined in before the pandemic. This last time (6/9) there was hardly any cheese and the pizza was over cooked. There was little sauce and there was less sausage than before. The quality of the product has greatly declined. Have been going to Traverso's for many years so we notice differences. I visited here with my family while we were on vacation. We had such an amazing experience we will definitely be back again some day. The food and service were excellent. I am gluten free and they had an extensive gluten free menu which was awesome! We had alfredo pasta, salmon ceaser salad, and lasagna for dinner and everything was amazing. To top it off we had the goosy cake, one regular and one gluten free, which may have been the best dessert we had ever had. Highly recommend. read more

We have been going to Traverso's for years. It's very difficult for a restaurant to have the best all the time. What I love about this place is that on those rare occasions, they always try to make it right and the owners truly care. The pandemic has been very difficult on the food service industry. My husband works in food service and the difficulties and stress have been unmeasurable. I have been to other restaurants recently that are experiencing shortages in staff and product and the management does not have an ownership position and could care less - they will still get paid. The owners and staff at Traverso's go the extra mile to make sure that your patronage is recognized and appreciated. I'm so glad this local gem survived these difficult times and I know they will continue to prosper for years to come! read more

Still just okay. We had not been in years so I asked our server if the ribs were "fall off the bone" tender. Her response was she didn't know. They sell a lot of ribs. Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay. They are NOT fall off the bone ~ the meat has to be wrestled off the bone. I had 3 which required a great deal of work and I told her if anyone else should ask that question ~ the answer is "no". Even the pizza was just average. We left sort of feeling like they really can't identify what type of restaurant they are trying to be. Love! It's so nice to have a local restaurant that offers and extensive gluten free menu. Allegedly the Chef has a child who has Celiac Disease. The wait staff and management are well versed when it comes to potential issues. I often have an impossible time figuring out which gluten feee option to eat. Love the wings...lemon and buffalo. The pizza is delicious...thin and crispy. The sandwiches are great. The pastas are good too. Heck they even have GF fried chicken if that's your thing! Yesterday afternoon, we celebrated my parents' 50th wedding anniversary in the private room at Traverso's. It was pretty much perfect. We arrived earlier than expected and they happily accommodated us. The two servers were amazing - patient with our group and always there when we needed something. We had a buffet of salad, mostaccioli with red sauce for vegetarians, meatballs, and several different pizzas. The food was really good but the pizza was excellent. The owner had allowed my dad to drop off a cake earlier in the afternoon, and the servers cut it and served it with coffee. They also had a platter of sweets. My parents and aunt and uncle eat at Traverso's regularly, and when we are out in Naperville again we will definitely eat there again. It was a perfect place for a special celebration. The best part by far was the service - the owner and servers were all so welcoming, friendly, and professional. The food is great, too. read more

I visited this restaurant when visiting from Michigan. I have Celiac disease and have to be very careful when dining out. Imagine my surprise when I found out that this place has a two-sided gluten free menu and takes Celiac disease seriously! They offer appetizers, salads (including tons of dressing options), a huge amount of entrees as well as desserts. I was able to try chicken marsala for the first time in my life at this restaurant and it was amazing. Yes, Traverso's offers gluten-free pasta as well as gluten-free bread baskets and gluten-free desserts! I was also able to eat some potato skins here. This is not something that ever happens because much of the time, restaurants do not take Celiac disease seriously. Traverso's is dedicated to ensuring cross contamination does not happen here. The food was amazing and the prices were very fair. The portion size of my chicken marsala was huge! I actually brought half of my dish home with me so it has traveled from Naperville back to metro Detroit. :) The next time I visit Chicago, I will be returning to this restaurant again. Oh, I forgot to mention the service - excellent! I did not have to ask for a water refill once. The waitress was great. read more

We were there right when they told us it would be ready and had to watch multiple people arrive after and receive their orders while we looked on. I can't say enough how much I love this place! The owners and bar staff are fantastic; they treat you like family. I used to live in Illinois, and Traverso's was our Friday dinner spot each week. We always sat in the bar area and ordered pizza and beer. Now, when my husband and I drive back from Ohio we make it a point to go here. They make their own sausage, now have craft beers, and the ranch dressing is off the hook (I could probably drink it). They accommodate vegetarians too. We wish Ohio had an Italian / Pizza joint like this. Just a few tip. Bring cash if you are at the bar, otherwise the bartenders have to duck on the other side of the bar. read more

This "Italian" is much like the kind I grew up with. --before the US as a whole became more internationally traveled. Decent food for what it was, but not Italian in the real sense. It felt like a very homey environment though. Food served, much like I imagine my mom would have made, had she have known how to cook. Sadly however, I grew up with a mother who cooked eggs in the microwave , so this was not even the "Italian" I was served at home growing up. --Italian in my house was Chef Boyardee. ;) Judging Italian restaurants is tough for me. Am I rating it on real Italian (that I've eaten here and in Italy) or am I rating it on "American Italian"? This review is strictly "American Italian"; their food was so Americanized, they should just call it "American" and be done with it. ;) I give the food my husband and I ate 3-stars. The gluten free food my brother ate 3-stars and Wendy our waitress earned a 5-star. The fact that it is a family owned business is a 5-star. All together and Traverso's get's a 3-star from me. We will be back for sure. Why would we come back for what I consider to be "A-ok" food that also happens to be 5 miles from my neighborhood? Because my celiac brother was able to eat a heaping plate of gluten free fried chicken. His very first fried chicken since being diagnosed 2 yrs ago. He also was served GF bread and as GF breads go, he really liked his. I ordered the gnocchi with meat sauce. Would have preferred gnocchi with cream sauce but after having eaten a doughnut the day before, red sauce it was. Gnocchi was slightly gummy and a little too dense. They were not melt-in-your-mouth fluffy, like they should be. I still found them to be "A-Ok" though. Meat sauce was made of very fine ground meat, definitely had a fair amount of sugar added to it and very reminiscent of my grandma's cooking. --Close enough that I could have sworn she was back in their kitchen! My own red sauce only has enough sugar to cut the acid and full of sausage and short ribs. Good enough to elicit a marriage proposal I'm told. Theirs was too sweet and just not meaty enough with the very fine ground meat. Not bad, but nobody would propose over it. My husband really liked his spinach and feta stuffed chicken breast. I tried it as well. Chicken was cooked very well. Juicy. Had very nice flavor. His also came with polenta, which was completely swimming in sauce and just not visually appealing to me. --When it came out, I couldn't even tell what he'd ordered. I still liked it enough to steal an occasional bite from his plate though, but should I order polenta from there, I will be sure to ask them to only add half of their usual amount of sauce. Wendy might be my favorite waitress I've ever had. I liked Wendy's attitude and humor so much that I'd like to take her to lunch just to keep listening to her speak. She was exceptionally helpful; very knowledgeable of the gluten free menu; very patient with our table's questions and stayed on top of our table's needs without being overbearing, all while delivering comedic comments. If all wait staff at every restaurant could be that fantastic, dining out would be so much better for all. She earned the biggest star of the night; although, my brother might say she tied with the GF fried chicken. ;) read more

Few things feel better than finding a 5 star worthy pizza place close to your home. Okay, maybe it's only close if you don't get lost for 35 minutes trying to find it like we did. Man, did they tuck this sucker away. Google doesn't even know how to get there. I ended up getting off work early and really craving pizza; preferably from somewhere new, so I could yelp about it, but also close, so I could get pizza in my gubby ASAP. Traverso's appeared to be a bulls eye. It was about 8:30 when we got there and the place was packed. Our server looked really busy but she still took the time to come over and told us she'd be with us in a moment and I totally appreciate that... plus those extra few moments while we waited were spent well by perusing the yummy dessert menu... but you'll hear about that later. For starters we got mozzarella sticks and a Caesar salad and both were great. The mozzarella sticks were the kind that have the solid crisp outer shell and then you bite and cheese oozes and stretches out but is still stuck to both the part in your hand and in your mouth (picture the Selma Blair / Sarah Michelle Gellar kiss from Cruel Intentions with the saliva strand from lip to lip), it's cheesy perfection! The salad was good, too, and perfect for two of us to split before a meal. For pizza, we got black olives and mushrooms with giardinaire on the side... thin crust, of course. The pizza was delicious and perfect. It had ultra thin crust, it was crispy, had a good topping ratio, and they gave us a hot and a mild side of giardinaire. We finished the whole thing and took a carry out menu so I could hint to my family that they should start ordering pizza from here. For dessert, I was torn between wanting their carmel apple crunch and their goosey cake... we went with goosey cake because it's more fun to say. Wondering what goosey cake is? Well, it's like a dessert you would make for yourself if you were 8 years old with chocolate brownie cake with a chocolate chip cookie pudding layer on top and then it's both surrounded and topped with LOTS of whipped cream and chocolate sauce and a cherry. It's kind of like a dessert swamp and it's was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten! I can't wait for Tuesday when I order pizza again... with enough leftovers for Wednesday of course. read more
