Very very good food. Had the cinnamon roll and salmon eggs Benedict. Both great. People in my party had corn beef hash and sausage omelette. All really good. If you had to get one dish, would recommend the salmon eggs Benedict. Expect a wait during peek hours so call ahead. DO NOT EAT HERE I repeat, DO NOT EAT HERE. I had breakfast at Tre Kronor 2 days ago, and it was a complete disaster. I sat down with my wife in the back patio, and we proceeded to place our order with our wonderful waitress. After waiting about 5 minutes I glanced around the patio area and to my surprise I saw a live rat scurry from the kitchen area around the patio and make its way to a nearby alley. My wife and I were so disgusted we wanted to leave right there on the spot. We mentioned this to our waitress, and she was shocked. We asked her if she could bring out the owner so I could have a word with him, she said she would go ask for him right away. After waiting for 10 minutes, he did not show up. This man with Napoleon Complex had the nerve to leave me waiting and never showed up to talk to me. As far as I am concerned Tre Kronor has a rat infestation, and needs to be shut down immediately. We use to visit Tre Kronor when we lived in the Chicago area but retired far away. 2/17 we took our 5 year old granddaughter for lunch. It was as excellent as it has always been. She was the only "little one" at the time and although a busy lunch hour, our friendly waiter gave her plenty of attention. The food was presented artfully and delicious. My husband ordered the standard Swedish pancakes (light and tasty) with a side of Swedish sausage. I chose the Honey Mustard chicken salad on a very fresh Croissant. Plenty of chicken, celery and a nice mayo based honey mustard sauce. It was served with Swedish fried potatoes. Portions are large. The coffee was strong and hot, a definite change from most restaurants these days. Service is fast. We love this place any time and we too loved our friendly waiter! read more

I've been wanting to go to Tre Kronor for a looong while since they'd been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I'd also been meaning to get my car aligned for a few months, and needed to go to a Bridgestone because I'd purchased unlimited lifetime alignments from them. Knowing that I didn't want to hang out in the Bridgestone "waiting room" for hours, I looked for breakfast places nearby--and ta-da! Tre Kronor is nearby! I was seated in the upstairs dining room. While almost every table was full, the atmosphere up there is much more quiet and subdued than it is on the main floor. The cool think about the restaurant was that it's really a converted Chicago apartment house. The whole layout of the restaurant with the front living room, middle dining room, and then hallway back into the kitchen was eerily familiar to many vintage Chicago apartments I've been in. The décor is simple, but traditional. Lace curtains, pastel blue paint, ceramic plates and bowls. Our waitress was upbeat and attentive. I got the Oslo omelet, with a side of toast and potatoes. The omelet itself was amazing, filled with cream cheese, dill, and a generous helping of lox. As far as the potatoes--they're exactly the kind of potatoes that I ate during my exchange year in Germany, so very authentic. Basically boiled, mashed and served with salt and pepper. I guess it's just that I like a little "crust" on my breakfast potatoes. The check was surprisingly low, and it was awesome to have such a delicious meal for a great deal. I'm looking forward to getting my car aligned again, just so that I can make it back to Tre Kronor! read more

Casual, comfortable and affable during the morning and brunch rush and wonderfully intimate during the dinner service. Tre Kronor remains one of the gems of Swedish-American culture in Chicago! Service can be at times a bit spotty as the waitstaff can be a rotation of students from North Park University, although typically the students who begin working here, remain through their tenure. The menu is nothing too adventurous or progressive, but pleases a wide range of palettes. Thanks to a friend who invited us to brunch here as it was delish!! The place is absolutely adorable and the service is even sweeter. I had the stockhold omelet - Falukorv sausage and havarti. Lets me honest, havarti cheese is oh so good, so how can a sausage and havarti omelet be a bad choice? Others with me enjoyed the reubenssen and i heard the side of homemade pickled cucumbers are a nice side option. Together the table shared the swedish cinnamin rolls - sweet, but worth trying. Saw Tre Kronor on DDD, so of course I wanted to try it! They always make everything look amazing on TV. However, it wasn't quite up to my standards (and maybe I just made them too high). We got a cinnamon roll, which was good, but Ann Sather's is better. Sorry! I also got the mushroom and spinach quiche, and Cafe Selmarie's quiche was tastier. My friend got the sausage and havarti dill omelet, and it was good, but something was missing in flavor. Maybe I am just used to more flavor packed breakfast items, but I wasn't very impressed by what we ordered. I was really wanting to order the french toast or waffle, but since I had a cinnamon roll, decided not to. Mistake? Maybe these items were tastier? Not your typical breakfast place and that's what makes it great. This apartment building was converted into a restaurant and you feel like you are sitting in someone's house. My sisters and I go here often and we share a few pastries before we order breakfast. My favorite is the waffle with fresh berries and whipped cream (real whipped cream, nothing from a can). It's always busy but we never wait long and the servers don't rush you to leave. If you are tired of the typical bacon and eggs joint go here, you won't be disappointed. read more

Very good food and friendly, prompt service. I had a daily special of fried herring with soup and rutabaga. It was the best I've ever had. The herring was nicely breaded, seasoned and perfectly cooked and a generous portion. My wife had tuna salad on limpa bröd. Really good. Swedish food is sometimes not the most exciting but when done properly, as with most things, it is quite enjoyable. One of my all time favorite places for brunch. Oslo Omelet is to die for (although a little bit on the salty side with the smoked salmon). Pastry's rock, Coffee is excellent and you can sit outside. If you do sit inside you wil walk away with the smell of the Tre K. On Sunday's there will be a wait, but I have never waited longer than 15 min. They do take reservations for large parties but I think a reservation is more like, there are 8 of us and we are leaving right now. read more

One of my favorite breakfast places. I usually either get the Stockholm Omelet or the Oslo Omelet. The Stockholm Omelet has Swedish sausage and cheese. The Oslo has lox and creamy chive cream cheese. The service is very good too. They use a team approach so you may get another server refilling your coffee, which the coffee by the way is coffee chain quality. The Swedes are notorious coffee champs, so they'll make sure your cup is full. Get there (before 9:30 am) on Saturday or Sunday if you don't want to wait for a seat. read more

home. that is what is place feels like even though my boyfriend & drive from old town up to get here, but soooo worth it that I couldn't even doc a star for it. the staff are super friendly (and apologetic) the last time we went the had a huge lunch rush right before us and were short a waitress and a worker in the kitchen! They still did a fantastic job improvising. I love the coffee. It's strong, aromatic and to the point - wakes my ass up. A smidgen of cream and sugar and I can slurp that puppy down in 2 seconds flat and searching the room for a refill! My BF and I enjoyed a cinnamon roll and a danish. Then for my main entree I ordered the Salmon Dill Quiche which comes on a large plate filled with fresh fruit. When I say FRESH fruit, I mean it. Cantaloupe, grapes, kiwi, raspberries, strawberries - you name it and they were all fresh and good quality. I have a love-hate relationship with Tre Kronor. I like their food very much, but their service, dependability, wait time and policies are questionable. The first curious point for me is the lateness at when this restaurant opens on the weekends. Okay, I can contend with that. My feeling is that if the restaurant opens at say 9:00; specials should be ready to be served at this time. I'm referring to the quiche which is quite good, but only has partial availability. I've gone to Tre a number of times, sometimes being seated right away, sometimes having to wait because they were full, and waiting for unknown reasons (open tables, no one waiting). While waiting, I've asked to have a coffee in a to-go cup. They offer to go cups, as this is how I always have my coffee since I can't seem to drink a cup in a short period of time. I was told that I couldn't have a cup of coffee while I was waiting, so I informed them I would go next store to Starbucks...didn't seem to phase them. On one occassion, we were seated upstairs as a party of three. Service was painfully slow. We ordered our food and were left hanging and terribly hungry for an hour. We were not alone in our wait either. After finally flagging down a server, we inquired about our food and were told that the kitchen was backed up. Okay - how about communicating this to your customers, bringing some bread or coffee...that was the day I finished my entire cup of coffee before the meal even came. We swore we wouldn't go back and complained to management. When their service and speed are there, I'd give the Tre 4 stars, on days like the one we had above, even though their food is good, ONE star...and that's being generous. read more

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We arrived around 8:30 am and a few min later there was a rush of people. So get here early. This place is cozy and & friendly atmosphere. We ordered Belgium Waffles and a special they had. The food was good and I loved their coffee. Had a great brunch here. Ten minute wait-not a big deal. We were glad to get a table. Our waitress was very sweet, and made sure we had condiments and stuff like that. We had a cinnamon roll, which wasn't either of our favorites. It was a little too orangey tasting for our liking. I am also not a fan of raisins in cinnamon rolls either. Friendly service. As we entered they told us that the kitchen was backed up. We had another member of our party was going to be over 30min late. They said we could take their order and (hopefully) by the time he arrived the food would show up. And sure enough the two arrived at the same time. They had a "house" magician show up. Wonderful brunch spot but the real gem are the maple danishes. The flakiest crust and mouth watering flavor. You have to get there early or they run out. Make sure you ask your waiter to set some aside for you as soon as you sit down. Some of the food here reminds me of what my swedish grandmother would cook us. The name means "three crowns" in swedish. The reason I go here so often is that its reliably good, and genuine homestyle service. I love the pancakes, and they have lots of other good bread-y and appley things plus some quality seafood. My family and I have been to Tre Kronor several times. And this place is really outstanding! The food, the service, the value for the meal, the location, etc. My daughter and son are attending college at North Park University which is right there in Albany Park. The place is so quaint and cute. It is small, but that seems typical for a Chicago place. It was very crowded on every day that we have gone to Tre. The food and service are outstanding. It is very clean inside and the decor was neat. The food has always been consistently fresh and good every time we have gone. I say "kuddos" to the Chef. The staff is extremely friendly. And it definitely is not too pricy. I know we will definitely be going back for Scandanavian dishes at Tre Kronor for years to come!! read more

Tre Kornor is one of my new favorite brunch places. Great food, good service, and easy parking. Despite being located on a busy street, we've never had problems with parking. And the wait was never more than 15 minutes. Love their hand cut corn beef and hash. Love their vanilla and hazelnut danish. Love the stockholm omelette. I can only offer input on these three dishes because they are so good I haven't had the desire to try something else. So yeah, go try this place~! read more

I went with friends to Tre Kronor for brunch this afternoon. They seated us right away, even though our whole party hadn't arrived yet. I liked that. We had a hard time deciding what to have, so we started with two kinds of danish - apple and vanilla hazelnut. They were warm, obviously freshly made, and delicious! I ended up ordering the "crab cake benny" (what our waitress called eggs benedict), which came sans english muffin and was wonderful. The service was great! Our server was very attentive, and was willing to split our tab four ways on credit cards. (My total was about $14 for my benny and half a danish) She even gave us a free raspberry danish before we left! We live in the neighborhood and I wanted to check out a local restaurant. After visiting I can say I will definitely be back! read more

If I have to think of something that sums up the North Park Neighborhood (other than the university), it would have to be the wonderful Swedish restaurant: Tre Kronor. Known commonly as the "Tre K," this special spot is home to a great number of Swedish dishes and specialties, and a favorite of mine to visit for breakfast or brunch. My personal favorite is the Swedish pancakes, which come with lingon berries and to top it off: bottomless coffee. Another great dish they serve is the Danish pastries- though they do not make these at the restaurant, like the rest of their dishes. The food here is excellent and I am always willing to go here. The service here is prompt, very friendly, and professional. I have also heard very positive reviews of the lunch and dinner menus as well. So if you're in the neighborhood- this place is a must to come and visit. read more

This is a charming place, and like many Kronor fans I'm hesitant to spread the word and increase the crowds at one of my favorite spots. Menu, ambience, and service are all delightful. The waitresses I've met are uniformly friendly and efficient. I don't have much experience with dinner menu, but brunch is unbeatable. The Anders hash and eggs with a side of Swedish pancakes does the trick for me. Limpe toast, lingonberries, and frequently-topped-off coffee complete the scene. Wait times on weekends seem to be getting up there, but should improve when warmer weather allows extra patio seating. read more
