Dropped in for the restaurant's soft opening and boy was I in for a surprise. Located in Budlong Woods, this gem just popped up to serve the community. As a former resident of budlong woods, an establishment like this is needed. This is exactly what the residents and new comers need. We arrived exactly at 7:00am, when they opened, and were greeted by the owner herself. Young and smart, the 21 year old woman opened her first restaurant and it's pretty large in size. I chose to go big and ordered the crab Benedict and my friend ordered a cup of original coffee (naturally made with cinnamon and brown sugar) and the Monte Cristo. First off, service is quick and the plates are large. The crab patties are made fresh with real crab meat and they're pretty decent in size. The English muffin bread was perfect in thickness and the eggs were poached perfectly. My only critique would be to do more seasoning in the potatoes. The monte Cristo was also filling. My friend said he was delicious but his only recommendation would've been no over easy eggs, he would've asked for fried hard instead. Definitely will be returning to this gem of a spot. read more

Great service, such nice people. Delish omelettes and Benedict's, potatoes are perfect and the cinnamon coffee is the best anywhere.

The breakfast items are wonderful. The service is also wonderful. We have a group of at least 6 customers & the service is also wonderful.

I heard this restaurant is owned and run by a young CPS graduate, which is the main reason I went here. This girl greeted us, was wiping down tables, took our orders, and brought out our food. It was Tuesday 11am, and the place was about 20% full. Even though she was the only one working on the outside, the service was great. She kept our water and coffee full. We did not feel rushed. Hopefully, she has more help during busier times. I ordered Laura's Skillet with a side of Pancakes. The pancakes were good, but the skillet had way too much potato and not enough corned beef Hash. My friends ordered the chorizo wrap and the Kaufman's Skillet. We all agree that the portions were large and food tasted ok. If I do return, I would most likely try something else. read more

The most delicious pancakes that I've had in years! I ate every last bite. The cafe de olla was delightful and spiced with cinnamon. I ordered my chilaquiles with salsa verde, chorizo, and scrambled eggs. It came with fresh slices of avocado and tomato, as well as sour cream. The quality of the food is heads above other restaurants and I'm happy to support a family owned business. I'm excited to return with my family! read more

On my quest to find good chilaquiles, I decided to try this place out because everyone raves about the chilaquiles. They were good but had no kick to them. Chilaquiles are supposed to be a little spicy. Also, they cost $20 which is a little high for what they are. The coffee was really good and all the servers were very nice. read more

Had a very good experience here. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu is basic breakfast (in a good way) plus a few specials with a Mexican flair. All of the food was good to excellent, with the Swedish pancakes standing out. Skillet meals are tasty, good size and priced fairly. Service has been wonderful since day one and they have increased some staffing to deal with the busier times. The cafe de Hoya is a must and their specials are priced decently for the quantity. Hidden gems are their lunch menu which has some great options for under $15. Small space, but never overwhelmed and consistency of their food is excellent. We had a party of 4 from Milwaukee and New York, we visited Chicago for 3 days and came across this amazing little breakfast spot. Let me tell you we will be making the hour and 30 minute journey back because the food was absolutely delicious. Everything from the buttermilk pancakes, the fluffy eggs, the flaky salmon, the coffee and, the huevos rancheros were top notch. They deserve way more recognition than they get. Bill our server was awesome and very nice and the two chefs were really throwing down in the kitchen. Please give them a try they're such nice people and definitely put a big smile on mine and my family's face after that meal. My third time at Las Maria's and it did not disappoint! I ordered the Cafe de Olla that is wonderfully flavored with cinnamon and piloncillo. The avocado toast from the specials menu was fabulous. It's served on sour dough bread with avocado spread, arugula, diced mango, red onions, hard boiled egg, smoked salmon and parsley dressing. I shared an order of cinnamon rolls that were simply divine. Our waiter Bill was smiley and kind. The atmosphere was enhanced by soothing music. Their $12 Daily Deal is a delicious deal! I picked the ham for my meat and it did not disappoint. You get (Columbian) delicious coffee AND juice! The overeasy eggs (3!) were also cooked perfectly. This is a family run place for breakfast and lunch owned by daughter, Maria. Yolie and I stopped by for lunch and ordered the steak sandwich and chicken avocado blt served with a delicious bowl of vegetable soup and fries. All the food tasted great and we took home leftovers for tomorrow. Service was excellent. This is the 4th restaurant at this site in the last 35 years, I think. The ambiance is basic with simple furniture and photos on the wall. More important is that the place looks very clean. We will definitely come back. read more
