I have been meaning to stop at this place and was hanging with my bestie Erica V. and we decided to pop in and check it out. They advertise their monthly upcoming sale on the entry door and I will keep an eye out because it looked like a great sale. They have a small selection of home goods and misc. stuff including some vintage toys, books, plates, etc. I was a bit disappointed with how small this section was but, there is also a clearance section so, that made up for it. Their clothes section is out huge and they have a variety of sizes. I was able to find a skirt and a grandmaish night gown (which is sooo cozy) and a bunch of other clothing items. They have shoes, purses, jackets, sale racks of clothes, etc. The dressing rooms are only covered by a curtain so make sure it is pulled shut on both sides. Make sure you check out the jewelry selection at the counter because they have a bunch of interesting pieces. Everything was very reasonably priced and in great condition. I also found a cold brew coffee maker that will be good for camping. This is a place you should stop in often because I am sure there are new treasures to be found daily! read more

"Solidarity Not Charity" is the slogan for this super neat, radical thrift store across the street from me. This thrift store/non profit is designed to directly benefit local organizations and projects in our community. The goal of this collective is to distribute funds to these organizations so that they might be able to continue their work. It's run entirely by friendly volunteers who are usually playing some decent music in the store which is always a pleasant surprise. The prices are lower than expected and at a flat rate that will shock shoppers. There are sections of antiques, 25 cent movie shelves, book shelves, clothing, and music. There is a separate room full of furniture and appliances from various decades, all at affordable prices and worth perusal. This excellent little store needs your support. (money, volunteers, donations) and it has already survived a fire! Dang! Tough little thrift store. Oh and there's a YellowBike next door too so you can put a shiny new basket on your bike to tote home all the awesome shit you just bought. read more

My thing with thrift stores is browsing, not so much buying. I am a voyeur at heart, at least in some non-disgusting sense of the word, and I love sifting through other people's junk. And the people who donate to Treasure City are fascinating, if their castoffs are any indication. The whole concept is terrific. No bosses! No fluff! Just people, and stuff. Went to a cool (actually, it was sweltering hot, but it's Texas in June, so whatever) event here with beer and crazy tunes and tons of people and junk for as low as a dime. Didn't by anything, but I sure thought about it. Maybe when it's cool enough outside to not risk drenching the merchandise with my copious sweat, I'll be back! read more

Why is this place so popular? Looking to kill some time, I did a little search and came here after hearing good things from friends and reviews from Yelp. Uh... no. Almost every item of clothing I saw (and liked) was either stained (blood?!) or ripped/damaged beyond repair. All the intact items I found were pilled and looked like they came from a Sears dumpster. The shoes all looked like the remains of a Weiner's bin. The coolest thing I found was $.30 on a broken Ikea sofa, which I swiped for laundry. Plus, the two girls working were beyond unfriendly. Look, I work in retail and I know how customer service goes - you offer it no matter what mood you're in; you don't turn around and walk away once a patron visiting your store walks in or, heaven forbid, within 10 feet of you. Yes, it's beyond cheap, but that's not enough to bring me back looking for more. read more

This place is definitely a hidden gem. Stopped in here after a mention in the Chronicle about the shop giving a percentage of sales to charity. It definitely takes a paradigm shift upon entering Treasure City to understand this place. This is not your typical thrift store. Things are a little poorly laid out but it's not entirely hard to find a deal. It's a little small but there are bargains to be had. Do a little digging and you'll find something you can't live with out. Be sure to give yourself some time to dig through the bins of misc art materials and misc merchandise. Another bonus about this place... you can bargain with these folks. Don't quite like the price, make them offer. They'll entertain it. You can't do that at Goodwill. So, if you in for a little adventure and want to try something new, check out Treasure City soon. read more

Today was my first visit to this little gem and I am sure to return frequently! The store is small, but very organized and merch has definitely been sifted through for grime or stains. Shoes were in good condition and there were many brand names, many pairs of Steve Madden flats and heels. There were lots of really stylish dude clothes, as well. Half of the store was vintage/thrift items including sewing machines, Stanley thermoses, old photographs, textbooks, dishes, etc. There were so many really neat things! I'm a teacher and scored an adorable vintage-print skirt from Target, pair of dress pants from H&M, a copy of Feminine Mystique, a book about instructing minority students as a white teacher (EXTREMELY HELPFUL), and decorative school supplies all for less that $12. The staff were also very friendly and down to earth. I'm givin' this store an A+. read more

Treasure City is cool, brah. Run by volunteers and supports some radical causes. I got a real-wood chest of drawers here for $35, and a heavy-metal leather belt for one buck! Clothes are cheaper than at Goodwill or Sally's. Generally the merch is not the greatest, but that just means you all need to get down here with your snappy duds and donate! Donating to thrift stores is a great way to be charitable when you can't afford to give financially -- and at the same time you can fix your shopping Jones and bag a variety of "disposable" fashions. For context I'm a reseller from out of town so I've only been here once.... Overall environment: it definitely has a distinct non pleasant smell beyond the normal "thrift store" smell. Like it's strong. A mix of incense, mildew, and thrift smell. After about 10 min you're used it but still I know the clothes I got have this smell now. It's fairly small compared to places like a goodwill so you can sift through quickly but that limits what they have out. Prices: fairly priced for sure...they seem to mark up slightly but nothing to make you not want to purchase. My items cost $4-8. Staff: VERY friendly. Like so nice. A homeless man came in and the lady "entertained" his conversation very politely. She was upbeat and had a great attitude Now the merch: definitely not a honey hole but not the worst. I did find D&G, Lafayette 148, Marc Jacobs, madewell, Lilly Pulitzer, anthro brands. Now just because I found it doesn't mean it was worth picking up. Most of it was your typical target/TJ Maxx/Ann Taylor/random brands. The shoe selection is basically non existent. Overall I probs wouldn't return for resale purposes. Again I went once. read more

I absolutely adore this place. They have a variety of hidden treasures, as the name implies, akin to finding a sunken pirate ship filled with amazing booty. The prices are similarly amazing, and profits go back to the community. I don't know HOW you can beat that. Among my recent found treasures: a beaded vintage top for FIVE DOLLARS and a set of Tweety Bird footy pajamas for FOUR DOLLARS!!! Where else can you find such disparate treasures at such prices? Nowhere, I tell you. They are are also great for helping to alleviate the clutter in your home, as you can donate clothes stuff and treasures that you may no longer have a need for, but someone else will get as excited about as I did about my TWEETY BIRD FOOTY PAJAMAS, OMG! Treasure City is the best thrift store in Austin. The prices are really low, as a second hand shop should be, none of this $8.99 for all dresses bullshit like Goodwill pulls. You can get cool clothes for a dollar, good enough kitchen tools for a quarter and the knowledge that you're supporting something awesome like the Inside Books Project, instead of a giant super-corporation. Plus the people who work there have always been nice to me, they have never had the holier-than-thou attitude that you get from the 15 year olds working at Savers. Also they will haggle with you, which I also think is important when you are selling other people's crap that was just donated to you anyway. I give Treasure City two thumbs up. read more

Last time I was here I found Seven Jeans in my size for $5. I love this place. And it gets donated at the REALLY REALLY free market when it doesn't sell. Everything here is very current and stylish, but no one's upcharging the name brand stuff to make a buck. Hence, I have some really well-made jeans for next to nothing. and some cute moccasins that I get compliments on, and a bright pink purse that is AWESOME. And I've donated quite a bit myself. Treasure City is a small funky thrift shop in central east Austin. Its jam packed with anything your thrifty heart desires. I used to live a block away and went here all the time. I love this shop. It is run by nice folk who work for free!!! Anytime I need any furniture, I check here first. I got an amazing desk here for $30 that was made in the a Texas Correctional institution! All of my donations go to Treasure City. Seriously people, drop your old rags off here rather than Goodwill/Savers etc. Treasure city is a non profit that supports LOCAL programs. read more

Treasure City is a little smelly and dingy, but if you dig around, you can truly find treasures. I constantly get comments on the dresses and accessories I've bought there. And I have them to thank for my greatest thrift store find ever: a set of three 1970s ceramic kitchen canisters with painted on orange and yellow tulips. Treasure City is also the most socially conscious thrift store in town. They will not send unsold clothes to Africa or landfills. They make every effort to make sure clothing is reused by people in Austin. Don't donate your clothes anywhere else (unless its a clothing swap, and even then, make sure the leftovers go to Treasure City!) read more

Popped into this cute pink building recently - organized, clean, and cheap thrift store right on the east side. Lots of bars and coffee spots to hit before or after. Nothing too high end but a fairly nice selection of very affordable second hand clothes. You can get in and out of there in 15-20 minutes easy. read more

My favorite "thrift" store in Austin! A new friend suggested I check out this thrift store for their .25cent sale. I wasn't expecting much at those prices. I was very pleasantly surprised at how organized the store was and the quality of the items. I practically doubled the size of my small wardrobe for $3.25 that day. Even if I paid the full (thrift) price I would have been happy. I purchased 2 pairs of pants, 9 shirts/blouses, a purse and a coin purse. All of these items are name brand and were in excellent condition. There are only two fitting rooms so it can be a bit of a wait to try things on but who cares at .25 per item. If you're in a time crunch you can buy it and donate it back. the fitting rooms were very clean. While I was waiting to purchase my items I overheard one coworker to another ask if it was time to refresh the bins. It's nice to know that on a sale day that not all the good stuff is gone in the first 15 minutes of shopping. I'm ready for the Austin heat! read more

I've been coming here for years and it is my favorite thrift store. I always find great stuff here and their price are dirt cheap! Their slogan "solidarity, not charity" encompasses their philosophy. They give donations to several other local, small, grassroots and awesome businesses, that reflect the cultural diversity of the community they're located in. They seriously walk the talk, which is why I drive across town to donate to them. Treasure City also has monthly 25cent sales, and has a "really, really free market", as if their regular prices weren't low enough! It just shows how much they care about the community. Went to their (I think monthly) $.25 sale this last weekend and it was awesome! You have to be willing to look through bins, but there is some good quality stuff there. It's not just the dregs that are getting sold for a quarter. When I arrived, I was under the impression is was only the tables and bins out front that were 25 cents, and after looking and looking through them, I decided I had sweated enough in the Austin sun and went inside to pay. Low and behold, about 15 more bins of clothes - inside in the AC! I ended up getting 17 new items, including a closet organizer, an addidas bag, a bundt pan, and a bunch of new clothes for my little girl and spent a total of $4.60 with tax. I'm also a big fan of their monthly "Really Really Free Market" in Chestnut park. You have to be willing to look through bins (those same bins from the 25 cent sale - not quite as good of quality, but still great stuff), but it's all free! read more

AWESOME VINYL SELECTION. Whoever donates their records to Treasure City must be a funky as hell. I've never seen so many Donna Summer, George Benson, etc LPs in one setting, for so cheap. I bet even their rad, loud mom's jewelry probably ended up at this store. This place is legit. It's the kind of Thrift store that was around back before people made thrift shopping so popular that they all got over priced. It's got rare finds, weird things, and an interesting selection of stuff. It seems like they have a pretty loyal base of donations so different stuff is coming in and out constantly While we were there, a guy from North Austin drove all the way over to donate all the furniture he didn't sell at his garage sale. I was in awe of all the awesome things he was unloading. We found some pretty cool CDs of bands that definitely were worth more than a $1 a piece. This place isn't big and doesn't have a ton of selection like it's competitors (Goodwill, etc). But it's unique and local and that's the reason to go. read more

Came in here in search of authentic Austin thrifting and I think I found it! There is a lot of clothing here, along with a decent-sized selection of housewares, a little jewelry and a few pieces of furniture (incl. one neat midcentury end table in need of refinishing for $8 and a 1940s record cabinet that would have had a good chance of going home with me if I lived here). There's almost a curation to the inventory, it seems, that skews toward kitsch, which I can appreciate - I also love their unicorn dressing room curtain that is sadly not for sale! I bought a vintage Samsonite traincase, some artwork and awesome old books on this trip. Would visit regularly if I were a local. read more

This isn't my kind of store although I will confess I visited during a low inventory period. If you're interested in REAL bargains however, this is your place. When we visited, they were holding a 25 cent sale. Shoppers were literally digging through bins to find amazing bargains. My gal pal plucked a UT jacket off the top of one, stain on left elbow--whatever, her 16 year old won't even see it. And it was a quarter..... If you're not a true bargain/thrift store guru, this won't be for you. It's definitely work and a lot of the clothing really belonged in the dust bin. But this is a charity driven store. And, every one working there was super friendly. I've definitely found my new donation drop off. I love that they're helping our community! read more

I really liked the stuff I found. This stuff is a bit less edgy than other vintage/thrift stuff, so the environment is a lot more relaxed. If you want cheap funky clothes, this is your place. Bought a bunch of stuff, and my end total was about 20 dollars. My only complaint was that there was cat pee on one of the dresses I tried on. I understand that they have a lot of stuff and probably don't wash/check them that much. But cat urine can carry a good number of diseases and you just want to be careful. But this could really happen at any vintage/thrift store, so I don't hold it against them. I'll come back again once it gets warm! read more

Every time I hunt for clothes at Treasure City I leave with tons of hot booty for crazy cheap. Best shopping rush EVER. Plus the staff is always friendly which is not the case at other thrift stores I've been to. The one thing I feel they could improve upon is the cleanliness of the floor. My friends and I took off our shoes to try on other shoes and our feet got really dirty. But even if they don't decide to sweep and mop more frequently I will be back for sure! Best prices in town and fulfills most of my needs for weirdo costume pieces and sometimes actual everyday nice clothes (2nd generation Urban Outfitters and Simple hemp shoes). Vintage doesn't usually cost any more than something new, so you can really get some deals on genuinely cool things. I've donated here a couple times and I only feel bad that they don't have more room...it just sits near the register until they sort through it. My only wish is that they were open later, or opened earlier, so that I could hit it 7 days a week. BUT REALLY, #1 DEALS in AUSTIN! read more

This place is so cool! There's always a great selection of products for super cheap! I got 2 pair of jeans for under 15 bucks once - that I wear ALOT. There's 25cent sale days, which really helps when you're strapped for cash. They host a variety of awesome events and I've learned so much from going here. The cheapest thrift store in the city, hands-down, probably thanks to the fact that most or all of their labor is volunteer. And once a month they have a 25¢ sale, and there's usually a box or two of totally free stuff out front. The music is also a lot better than at other thrift stores, and played through high quality speakers with a decent dynamic range. The dressing rooms use cool tapestries and cloths for privacy rather than doors. There are nice touches, like the fact that they sell utensils individually, while Goodwill and Savers make you buy a whole bag of them if they deign to sell them at all. The only downsides would be that their hours aren't as long as other shops and the store is rather small, but I imagine it might be hard to make rent in a bigger location unless it attracted more customers as a result, since they sell everything so cheaply. The website is also a bit dated, advertising events from about a year ago, and there are some dead links, too. But overall, there's probably a reason they've got 4.1 stars on Yelp as I write this. read more

The clerk at the counter was so rude. When I asked where to leave donation the first thing she asked was if the clothes were torn or smelly. Like I would take torn smelly clothes to donate! No help was offered. She acted as though she was doing us a favor taking our donation! 1st and last time I donate to them! read more

This is a THRIFT store. Not an antique store, not a consignment store. If you are offended by old clothes or digging or hunting for things, don't go here. The whole purpose of this "store" is to help the neighborhood and local causes and organizations. This area still has a very low household income level, so the $0.25 sales some of you are complaining about aren't for YOU! They're for the folks who need help. Infact several times a year the "store" packs up most of its inventory and takes it to a local park and distributes it to those in need - homeless, indigigent, etc. If you look around the area there are no Goodwills or Salavation Armies for these folks to go to without driving. So please set your expectations properly and get over yourselves. Also, this is a NON-FOR PROFIT - everyone who works there is a volunteer! If you don't like the "service" or the way the store operates, step up and help out. I've been donating to "the anarchists" as we lovingly refer to them for five years. Nine times out of ten when I'm there I don't find anything, but on that tenth time it's pretty darn cool. I've stopped donating to Goodwill or SA because they don't help the immediate communtity. I get to donate my gently used items (clothes, housewares, collectibles, etc) and know it will help the area, not get bundled into giant cubes of clothing sent to Africa that then destroys the local resale economy. Anyway, I just could not speak up after reading the negative comments. And no I don't work there, I just live in the neighborhood. read more
