I nearly gave POTL four stars, then realized I would be cursed. And who needs that? So I'll simply describe the missing star instead. But not until you know the important stuff: Shop There. You'll be helping animals in need of homes. You may even see a few eligible felines around the store. Pick of the Litter has furniture, clothes, jewelry, purses, and occasionally animal cages (bird, small critters...), etc. I have found some great shoes and purses there, but the women's tops and sweaters I see are very out of date and often look worn. Which of course they are, but they shouldn't look it. It is definitely worth browsing, and any money you spend is automatically money well spent. read more

Fantastic little thrift shop that give all proceeds to the SPCA! (help the little homeless chihuahuas out! *wo0of* *meow*) Mind you, I am just not a thrift shop type of gal. People that shop at thrift stores LITERALLY come from all walks of life. -people who want new clothes but would rather buy used clothes because it's cheaper -hipsters and scene kids thrifting for the sake of trendiness -people looking for that hidden gem Then there's me, curious, but not quite into digging through old, used things that may closely resemble trash. Ah...I'm not talking shit, but that's the case with most thrift stores. Pick of the litter is entirely opposite and is always kept neat and tidy. I love walking through the store just browsing quickly... I rarely DIG because ... well maybe i'm just not that hardcore yet. For now, it'll be one of my fav thrift stores...(if i ever decide to go thrifting again) I think it makes me appreciate it more because it's proceeds funds the homeless animals. I love em. I'm not a frequent shopper, but a frequent donater. I love supporting the animals with my donations. We actually donated a car to the Humane Society once. :) The folks that work/volunteer there are all very, very sweet. BTW, I drop off Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and stuff like that in small sizes. read more

This place has tons of everything! They have a huge furniture selection and at prices to make things move. I took away one star because they have so much furniture it's hard to browse without fear of something toppling over on you. I love charity thrift stores because they're usually run by cute little old ladies who are too cool to stay at home all day--and this place is no exception. Everyone is friendly and ready to help and answer any questions. I've gotten some cool cactus here as well as a leather mini-skirt for $15! I beat myself up for the Mid-Century modern dresser I let slip through my grasp. The parking lot next door makes it easy to load your trunk full of treasures. Whenever I have to take my husband to SFO, I make sure to include a stop here. read more

Love the cause, but one particular lady in the front is very rude. I won't say her name here, but you'll know who it is right away if you go in on a day when she's there. She stares at you and never says hello to ANYONE -even the people who bring items in to donate. In fact, she won't even attempt to come out and help you bring things in, even if there's another person behind the counter with no customers waiting to check out. I collect vintage knitting needles, crystal, and silver trays and pans. This woman had the audacity to imply that I switched the price tags on a set of knitting needles. Stunned! If I walk in and see this woman at the counter, I turn right back around and head to Goodwill do donate items. Love the cause, but this woman is horrible and I don't understand why they keep her there. read more

I could not in good conscience give a store that helps out animals less than five stars, especially after seeing the two adoptable kitties at Pick of the Litter when I went. Great selection for a thrift store, everything was in good condition, lots of books (which is what I usually look for in thrift stores) and records. It must have been a sale day, because for $1.35 I walked out of there with 5 books and a burning desire to adopt another kitty. read more

With a cutesy name like Pick of the Litter, it's got to be good right? Yup, RIGHT-O! I moseyed over here while waiting for my bushy monster (aka, the husband) to get a hair cut. I didn't expect them to be open at 3 pm on a Sunday but lo and behold, they were! It's a very small shop but they had several racks of stuff outside and they certainly had plenty of stuff crammed (but nicely) into the actual store. Within a few minutes I had scored a cool pair of Gap pants ($5), a darling little sky blue shrug with roses on it ($3), and an Ann Taylor black sweater with sequins and beads around the hem and cuffs ($4) and all in PERFECT condition. I saw many more things my heart desired but I could not talk my sensible self into making them mine, damn my practicality! Sadly they were closing shortly after I arrived so I didn't get time to peruse the books or furniture, of which they had some interesting stuff at a quick glance. The woman that checked me out (heh heh) was a total sweetheart who clearly enjoyed her job :) I will definitely be back! read more

This is a great place! I donated 5 giant bags of stuff today and they were very helpful in getting it done quickly (I was in a hurry.) I love efficiency :) My favorite thing is that they benefit my favorite - animals. I will now no longer be lazy and call for donations to be picked up for/from various other charities as I prefer all my donations help animals. I didn't get much of a chance to look at what they offered for sale ( I am admittedly a horrible thrift store shopper.) But they are a decent size shop and are located in Burlingame so they probably get a fair amount of goodies. They also had a good size parking lot which is a nice perk when needing to unload bags of stuff! Just be careful - Chula Vista Avenue is a 1-way street so you can't turn left out of the parking lot to get back to Broadway like your spouse might tell you to do...:) read more

I'm so weak when it comes to adorable animals. This thrift shops proceeds help the ASPCA, how cool! They had a cat in the store who was up for adoption, she was so cute, I just petted her while my boyfriend was scoping out the book section. The selection on clothes looked thin, but this place seemed to have a lot of nick knacks that could be good finds. I am thumbs up for a place that supports the welfare of animals. read more

This is a thrifting haven. I donate, since it's such a good cause and shop as well. There are plenty of accessories, clothes, kitchenware, lamps and other misc goodies to be found. Reuse is a great thing...less to landfill people and a bargain to boot. First Friday of the month is 1/2 off everything that is fairly priced to begin with. read more

We had perhaps 20 boxes of dishes, china, glasses, kitchen items, and books left over after the estate sale we did for my dad when he moved out of his house to an apartment. We tried in vain to get any local nonprofit to pick up the boxes from us (I get it that they are all overwhelmed with donations) until we found Tom Zoz at Pick of the Litter. He responded quickly to our telephone call, set a mutually-convenient time to come pick up the boxes, and showed up on time. Tom was friendly and personable, and a pleasure to deal with. Plus we are thrilled to support the Peninsula Humane Society! read more

I found this thrif store only a week ago and I am obsessed. The money this place makes goes to the humane society to help pay for the animals and they only sell things that don't have big rips or stains. They have alot of options to choose from and they have certain tag colors that are only $1. The staff is very friendly as well and want you to have a good experience! read more

I would never have thought to review a thrift store . . . you know dirty, cold/hot, crowded and sometimes a bit stinky. They have a fat-arse cat who owns the place and sually one or 2 mental/homeless cases wandering around all day. Otherwise, I'd be scared to wear anything from here and the only time I go in is to see if there are some good deals on pet carriers or the like which I have purchased, sanitized over a few days and used again. Came here twice so far this summer. Found books and DVD each time. There's a section of pet stuff which is unique to other thrift stores I have been to. Clothing selection seems alright. There's 50% off one color tag each week and there were still plenty of the ones on sale even during my weekend trips (Fri/Sat)--which would be highly unlikely at Goodwill. Plus, there are only a few color tags to begin with, and so about a quarter of the clothing seems to be on sale. Most of the clothing items are $4, $7. There was two $3 clearance racks today. I didn't really got into the clothing because they are not sorted by size and I am a little inpatient with that. Donation area is in the middle of the store. I think you do have to bring in your own bags--I did. There are receipts available for you to complete on your own. Staff has been friendly each time I've visited. Seems like the shoppers are nice too. Parking meters are 30 mins for $0.25. Goodwill is about 2 blocks away and have a free parking lot. read more

I read the website and it said they were taking donations from 12 to 5 and when I got there-they were not taking donations and only take them in a two hour window on different days so call before you waste your time going there. They need to update their website!!! read more

This place is a hidden gem!!! I usually thrift at Goodwill and Salvation Army but this place is amazing!! I found some awesome work pants, jeans, and even shoes for super cheap! It's a small store and I had a baby stroller with me when I first visited and it was a bit tight to squeeze through some aisles. However, my son enjoyed waiting nearby and trying to get people's attention as they walked in. Lovely selection and I can't wait to visit again. read more

This is a great little thrift shop. I shop for certain vintage items that I won't reveal (cuz I don't want you to get them first)! If I find them here they are always half the price of similar items at Goodwill or St Vincent DiPaul. This has always been my favorite thrift shop. I called today and was answered by the rudest man. He literally cut me off, hanging up on me. Come on people! This is not necessary. I will continue to donate, to help the animals, but now I understand why so many negative reviews. I too have noticed some rude people "working" in the store. What a shame. read more

I have come in to donate items 2X now and the older ladies at the register in the front never acknowledge you or say hello or thank you. I love how this place is non-profit for the animals, but the volunteers(not sure?) are not friendly ever! It's truly disappointing since this store is for a good cause. I like the cause of this store however I will never donate here again. I brought in 6 large bags to donate. You have to carry the bags through the store to the drop off location. Not one person offers to help, offers to hold the door open, and not one shopper offered to move out of my way while carrying large bags. I must have said excuse me 5 times each trip into the store. No help, no thank you, no nothing. Never again. read more

Love this thrift shop! There are tons of great finds here, especially in the furniture/home department--I actually had to stop myself from buying a few paintings while I was here. Velma, is a real character (in a good way); she'll negotiate prices with you, has a great poker face, and sense of humor. Oh, and this shop benefits animals so I really love that too! read more

Love this thrift shop. It's slightly off the main drag of Broadway, but the NICEST people run this place. Really nice stuff can be found there too! Got an incredible shabby chic cream colored coffee table there for only $15. What's more it's for a worthy cause, and the people there are so helpful and kind. You can even schedule Saturday truck pickups if you want to donate things to their store. Can't say enough good things about this place: full of good karma, so good to give some back there too. read more

I like this Thrift shop, people are friendly and it is organized in the space, as much as possible. The only thing I do have to say is, I think they look at prices on the internet and then price their items accordingly. Prices are a bit high for being a thrift store. But check it out. read more

This is the best thrift store in San Mateo County in my opinion. Why? Not because they don't always have the largest or best selection, but because unlike Goodwill and Salvation Army, they KNOW they're not a regular retail store and don't try to sell things at ridiculously high prices. The best part is if something's missing a price tag, you can ask someone and they'll actually give you an amount unlike some of these other places that immediately confiscate the goods and tell you they have a 'no tag, no sale' policy' which is so stupid as it's not like they're selling rolex watches or something. read more

Only 3 stars because parking is a nightmare (metered) and it is painfully difficult to find. I went on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, which, I admit may have been a mistake. I ended up finding one t-shirt for $8 so it was 50% off for $4 which was about right for a t-shirt. Overall, a bit spendy, but I do appreciate that the funds go to help the animals. Cashiers were nice. People took advantage of the (only) 2 changing rooms that had a big sign saying ONLY 3 ITEMS by bringing 10 or so items in with them...the wait to try things on became ridiculous. They do have a 3 way mirror and I would recommend wearing something form fitting so you can try on most of your items outside the changing rooms in front of the mirror. Then you can pare down your selection before your final fit in the room. read more

I took a bunch of clothes and household items there to donate today and everyone that I dealt with were exceptionally nice and helpful. It was my first time there so I had to ask where to put the stuff and they provided me with a cart for all the loose items and a rack to hang all the clothes that were on hangers. They said "thank you for thinking of them" and handed me a couple of forms to report the donation. It was a good experience for me and knowing that the items I left there would help animals in need was really priceless. I also found something for my cat! See you next week! read more

This is my favorite new place to shop and donate! I made the mistake of "just running" into the store with my 18m old. No stroller or toys, my mistake. The staff there was so friendly and accepting of my daughter even though she was done shopping with mommy. They have wonderful finds and amazing prices. Being a foster mommy to fur babies I also love the fact that the proceeds go to the SPCA. Wonderful store!! read more
