Not sure why people are rating this restaurant so highly. The ambiance is very nice but the food isn't that great especially for the high prices they command. We had hummus as an appetizer and then we shared the chicken kabob. The hummus lacked and taste and was served with not enough pita bread. The salad that came with the kabob was literally lettuce with two pieces of cucumber and tomato. The rice tasted very funny. Wouldn't go back. read more

Great service and most of the food was above expectations except the risotto special which was the weakest attempt at risotto I've ever tasted. It was indistinguishable from rice. Dry and flavorless. I had to douse it with olive oil from the bread plate to help it out. I'm confident it was just wild rice. read more

I wanted to like this place, based on tall the great reviews, unfortunately our experience was less than stellar. The start was the complimentary bread with dipping sauce was the highlight of the meal, but everything that followed was subpar/disappointing. The fried calamari felt like it was frozen and then microwaved; fried cauliflower was pretty tasteless but very oily, and all of our 3 different entrees (chicken pesto pasta, gyro plate and gyro Greek salad) were all bland and oily. Now here's an excellent small restaurant, and unlike many of the better places in Carmel it's open between conventional mealtimes, so if you want to eat dinner early because of a Bach Festival event, or just to avoid crowds, come here. The clam chowder was very thick and had juicy big clams. I then had paella, which I suppose is for one, but there was enough food that two could have made a meal out of this and a side or two. It wasn't paella as the Spanish cook it (baked in a pan with the fillings on top), but a rice casserole with the seafood, chicken, and sausage mixed in, plus a few veggies (no peas, the default veggie in Spanish version). This cozy spot is a block and a half off the main drag. It has most pleasant outdoor seating shaded by trees, hence the name, although there are tables inside as well. The service was friendly and attentive, but not overly so. The food we had was delicious: burrata appetizer, burger, halibut and cioppino made us all happy. One of my favorites in Carmel. Staff is amazing and treat everyone like family. Great calamari appetizer and the clam chowder is thick and hearty. I always get the yellow Thai curry with chicken and it is always wonderful. Spicy but they have a spicier version if that's your thing. My wife had a pasta with prawns in a red sauce that she loved. We split a key lime pie dessert and it was very refreshing. Eating outside on the deck in good weather is very relaxing. Inside is cozy and more subdued. read more

Needed more consistency and thickness on the soup and a little bit of salt to tase. Baba ghanoush is one of my Mediterranean fav on appetizers - it was good, lacking a bit of flavor. My husband ordered the chicken kebabs - we both love this dish. Chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I ordered a seafood paella (as this is my fav dish). I'm a bit disappointed as the paella was soaked in the juice and so sour, too much tomato. Mediterranean foods are our favorite and we've been to Europe eating these kind of foods, so there's a comparison for sure. But this is a Mediterranean, Thai and italian kind of restaurant so specialty wise, there's a lot going on there. My all time favorite dessert is tiramisu which we ordered to end our night. When we saw Yelp listed this place as "mediterreanean, italian and thai" we were like uhhh but we came for the pet-friendly patio and stayed for an incredible spread of food with flavors from all over. The clam chowder was indulgently rich and packed with clams while the gyro sandwich came with a generous amount of meat. The greek burger was one of the most unique burgers we've had. To start I was a little unsure we would get a table since It was prime dinner time and this appeared to be a nice restaurant, We had just previously been turned away somewhere else for lack of reservation. But we were warmly welcomed by a gentleman who sat us down right away. Brownie points- He noticed my small baby and brought a blanket for the high chair so he would fit better. After we had ordered our dinner, the same gentleman who sat us brought crayons and paper for our daughter and her dinner out sooner than ours (which was timed so perfectly with our borderline hangry toddler) The menu items all sounded tasty, there options from several different cultures (Indian, mediterranean, Italian, ect).. The lamb kebob was catching my eye after seeing some other people order it, large portion, which im sure to try next time. But that night both my partner and I got the steak special. It did not disappoint, it was cooked perfectly, so tender, juicy, and the sauce on top was spot on. I could not believe my eyes at the size of that Ribeye! Largest steak ive ever eaten! It could have easily been two meals, in fact for my partner it was. The only reason it wasnt for me is bc Im a breast-feeding mama lol and really, I didnt need to actually eat it all to be satisfied but it was just so good, I went for it. Well worth the $70 a plate I continued to be impressed after denying seeing a dessert menu (altho I really wanted to because I knew the desserts would be phenomenal after such an excellent dinner) I simply was too full to even think about eating more! This time we both got fish plates, myself the local sea bass and my partner the chef special of local sand dabs. Both so delicious topped withe a lemon caper herb sauce and creamy mashed potatoes/ sautéed spinach underneath the fish. We also ordered a lentil soup, yum! and a roasted cauliflower small plate which my 4yr old practically ate by herself. The tahini sauce that goes with it is some of the most tasty tahini Ive had! Again another dessert was gifted to us, this time a deliciously decadent layered chocolate cake with a raspberry (or strawberry) glaze. And of course we ordered the cheesecake and tiramisu to-go. After dinning here only twice, i'm already convinced theres not a menu item I wouldnt like. The quality of ingredients and flavoring of dishes is on par. The first has been the very best of the three restaurants I have been to on this trip to Carmel. I started with a cup of clam chowder. The clam chowder had a perfect amount of clams and had chunks of potatoes and I believe this is fresh and homemade clam chowder which makes it some of the best I have ever had. Then for an entree I had the truffle ravioli. It was served in a white cream sauce with shaved flakes of parmarsian cheese. This is as some of the best truffle pasta I have tasted. The service was some of the best as they asked a few tims if everything was okay and made sure we were topped up in on various glasses of wines. They also have a simple kids menu. Ambiance is very nice and chill with a mix of oldies and music from kinda of all generations. This is a must visit if you come to Carmel. Make a reservations ahead of time. read more

The menu is so interesting because of the variety but this place was tasty! I got the sea bass with the lemon caper sauce and mashed potato and it was very good, exactly what I was craving. The pasta here is a bit like fresh noodles. The chicken Alfredo is very chicken-y and with the texture of the noodles, almost tastes like a creamy chicken noodle soup without the soup. And it wasn't very salty. Others liked their dishes as well, including lasagna, more pasta and fish. Nobody got the curries so can't comment on it, but seemed very expensive for curry and especially in a place with a mixed menu so we didn't want to risk it. The garlic parmesan oil they give with the bread is so good! Watch out for the 3.5% fee with credit card though. The prices in the menu reflect a "cash discount". A bit shady. Had dinner here with a party of nine on a Sunday night. Since our party was sizable, they put us into a separate room, which was pretty nice. We had a variety of entrées and appetizers and desserts, but I'll review the ones I actually had. -they started us with bread and dip. The bread was fantastic, as was the garlicky sauce. - the Greek Dolmas were delicious - the grilled calamari was good. I missed that it was a calamari steak and not rings/tentacles, so I was surprised. It tasted ok though. - I had the grilled sea bass, served with a lemon caper sauce, mashed potatoes and spinach. This was their special tonight, and it was very tasty. Portion was larger than I thought, so that was good. - we had tiramisu, chocolate cake, key lime pie, and cheesecake for dessert, split amongst the 9 of us. All good. Split on what we liked the best. The chocolate cake seemed to be in the majority, followed by the tiramisu, key lime pie and the cheesecake. But all were good. Service was attentive and good. A late lunch at 2pm didn't require much wait (~10 minutes). The patio seats were beautiful - nice street view with full coverage shade. We weren't hungry so only ordered one Grilled Calamari from the appetizers section, and one Yellow Curry with tofu from the entree section. The grilled calamari was okay. Texture-wise it was good - tender while still chewy. The tartar sauce was good but a bit overwhelming, reminds me of ranch combined with wasabi. Flavor-wise, the calamari itself was bland. All the flavors came from the sauce. The portion was small. I guess that shouldn't be too surprising given that it was listed as an appetizer, and one of the cheapest dishes on the menu ($17). The yellow curry was good, but mediocre given its $32 price. I've had much better Thai curry from nice restaurants at half the price. The portion is quite big though.
