Going to the Houstonian for massages is such a treat. You go to the locker room, which is usually impeccably clean, and change into a giant fluffy bathrobe and slippers, then head upstairs and wait in what feels like a big, comfy, slightly formal, living room. Someone brings you a heated wrap for your neck and you can sip coffee or tea while you're waiting. It's all very calm, quiet, and luxurious. The massage itself is fantastic. I felt like jelly after my first one and couldn't stop smiling. After the massage, you can head back down to the locker room, shower, and use the pool, steam shower, or jacuzzi. They have disposable swimsuits for you if you didn't bring your own. Make sure to arrive early so you can take advantage of the facilities. I recently decided to book a package here at the spa for a special occasion. I ended up feeling fairly let down, although it was okay in the end. We arrived early to enjoy the whirlpool, steam room and pool and found it was so crowded, we had to race other people to find a spot. I never did use the tranquility room as it was always completely full. Even though I had ordered our lunch over a month in advance, we got a late seating time and had to fight off other patrons to find 3 seats together. Then, they didn't have the dessert we ordered. I don't know how long in advance you need to order something to actually get it around there. My treatments were nice, but I've been to much better spas in other cities and found the price of this to be very expensive to leave not feeling relaxed. I would only go back on an off time (definitely not a on a Saturday) and that would even be a stretch since I regularly go to a great massage therapist elsewhere. I really was looking for the full spa experience this time, and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't great. I do agree with the comments about the product in the locker rooms as I was surprised at the lack of amenities as well. They had stations with a hair dryer that didn't work all that well, and a dirty looking hairbrush, some low end deodorant and hairspray and that was it. read more

It's a nice place to come with friends and relax but for the amount of money I would rather go to my fav massage spot, i.e. Healing Hands, and get a phenomenal 2 hour massage for $120.00 versus a mediocre 1 hr massage at Trellis for a $110.00. read more

This review is for the facial only, the massage was excellent and the service was excellent! I was taken back for my facial I had booked the diamond white facial. The attendant took me to the room and I was told to change. I changed I sat down on the bed and waited and waited and waited. I finally got up to look at my phone to see what time it was. My appointment was for 1 pm it was now 1:15. My esthetician finally came came back to the room. At this point I was not happy. She then wanted to sit and talk about what products I currently use on my face. I was not in the mood to sit and talk since have of my appointment was already wasted. The esthetician picked up on my annoyance and quickly ran through the motions to hurry and finish my facial. The facial was extremely quick and not worth the price. This is my favorite spa. I love coming here. I've had massages and facials. On my last visit, my friends and I were scheduled on a Saturday at 5pm - the last service prior to closing at 6pm. Our service lasts 50 minutes so granted we didn't make it back to the locker room until around 6pm. Of course we needed to shower, etc. prior to leaving. We felt completely rushed in the locker room by the attendant after feeling completely relaxed during the day. My suggestion is to keep the locker room open until 7pm so that your guests can continue to have a great experience after the last scheduled service. I had a really bad experience the first time I visited the spa last year. I received a gift certificate from my husband for one facial, one massage, and one meal with gratuity included. I made my initial appointment to get a massage and I gave the receptionist my gift certificate details. At the end of my service I learned that I cannot break up the massage/facial services otherwise the gift certificate becomes only a monetary value and is not enough $ to include gratuity or the meal. No one told my husband when he got me the gift certificate, it does not state this on the website, they did not explain this when I made my appointment or when I showed up for my appointment. I was really disappointed and asked to speak to a manager in the hopes they could make a one time exception but she was not helpful at all and could only rely on a "this is our policy" speech. For a high-end spa I hoped there would be better communication and better customer service when communication failed. read more

I took my dad here for his 75th birthday, and we had a fabulous time. My dad had never been to a spa, though I've been to many. We were treated warmly by the entire staff who go out of their way to be helpful. The services were perfection. The facility was luxurious. However I did not care for the mani / pedi I received! I get better services for half the price in Montrose ..... But the facilities aren't so pretty.... Lol! After 2 pretty horrendous experiences, I wont be coming back here. First, I was lied to about salon prices and then received a surprise bill for more than 50% of the agreed upon cost after the lady basically fried my entire head in bleach when I begged her to please stop pulling anymore highlights through on multiple occasions. Manager tried to remedy with a chance to come back. Ok fine, so I come back after recently giving birth and wanting to get my nails done for an upcoming family photo shoot. I bring my husband so that I can nurse, get nails done, and immediately nurse again while he takes the child away from the spa. Babies this age often eat every hour when they are cluster feeding, which my son was doing. I was rudely told that children are not allowed behind the spa doors. I explained I just needed to quickly nurse him before my appointment and would be handing him off to my husband for supervision outside the spa facility. I was told no, this is policy, no kids. I scoffed at the animosity to exclude a mother from naturally feeding her child (which is now illegal, per TX law, you cannot forbid a mother from feeding her child in public spaces). The staff called his supervisor (another male) who had the audacity to say I can go feed him in the little shower stall rooms....are you kidding me? Do you not understand modern respect and accommodating for breastfeeding mothers and infants? I sent an email suggesting they change this policy for other mothers and they were not even concerned enough to respond to me after a week. They clearly do not care about me nor my family nor other breastfeeding families. read more

I had a package for a massage/facial/dinner in January and it was my first time getting a massage and facial. Went with a friend who had the same package. Parking was easy, spa looks beautiful and relaxing. My massage was amazing, very relaxing and just the right amount of firmness. I also enjoyed my facial and even fell asleep at one point, but I would have liked it if she had examined my face first to find my problem areas. I would have liked her to do extractions on me since I do have blackheads around my nose and chin, but she never mentioned extractions to me (and it being my first time, I wasn't sure if extractions came with facials until my friend told me her esthetician extracted all of her comedones). I very much enjoyed everything from beginning to end with my experience at trellis spa. It was my first visit and I have never been to a spa where I felt more comfortable and very much relaxed. It truly felt like if only for an hour I was away from all the stressors of life and I was at such a peace. Richard was my facial provider. I really give Trellis Spa 4.5 stars. The facility is beautiful! It's large with outdoor seating either on the main floor or upstairs as well as an upstairs tranquility room with a fireplace and less activity. The locker room is stocked with comfy robes, slippers (that you can wear socks with - more on that below) as well as full showers with shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, etc. The attendants were so nice and helpful - they remembered my name the whole day and how I like my coffee. The massage was wonderful! Lunch was included with my package and it was tasty, however I would probably skip lunch next time and just pay for a la carte services. The indoor pool was great and the water circuit before a swim is perfect. The only (minor) downsides to Trellis are 1. how cold the spa is! I was shivering everywhere I went and wish I had brought socks to wear with my slippers and 2. how crowded it is! I was here first thing in the morning in the middle of the week and had a nice 30 mins of peace and quiet. By the time my first treatment was done the upstairs lounge room was full to the max and loud! Overall still a great experience! read more

I received a Trellis gift card from my boyfriend for my birthday. Needless to say I kind of forgot about it and it got lost in a drawer. Fast forward about 18 months and my boyfriend has now become my fiancé. For engagement photos and I knew I wanted to have my hair and make-up professionally done. At this point I remembered the gift card and decided to try them out. I spent several hours at the spa, having both sets of nails done, hair styled, and makeup applied. Over all it was a great experience. The staff is beyond helpful and helped me schedule all my services so I would be done at a specific time to get home and change for our photos. They even helped me reschedule when our original shoot was canceled due to weather. Is it cheap? Heck no! It is not the place I would go on a weekly basis, but for special occasions it cannot be beat. Sometimes you get what you pay for and here, it is the service that helps justify the price. read more

I purchased the "Power Recharge For Men" package for my boyfriend for Christmas. Positives: The guest services people were friendly and answered all of my questions. The grounds around the spa were very nice. The facial and massage services were fine (not great). The Jacuzzi was a nice amenity. Negatives: The men's relaxation room needs some work. Only some chairs and a small couch. Not really enough to stretch out and relax. Pedicurist did not follow instructions regarding toenail trimming and caused discomfort. Overall the experience was so-so. Compared to other upscale spas that we have visited, I was disappointed with the overall quality. I am willing to pay a premium price for exceptional service and amenities but this spa failed to live up to my expectations. read more

The quality of their personnel is very inconsistent and they won't allow you to schedule with the technicians that you like ("We can't promise you will end up with her"). I have had overly chatty technicians, technicians that are too pushy with service upsell, most techs that don't try at all (because gratuity is already included in a package), procedures rarely last a full 50 min - typically 40-45 min. Their latest innovation with the facials is applying of "pressure points" (super annoying and underwhelming) instead of a proper shoulder and head massage. Had a Mommy and Me date with the Trellis Spa Packages and we had a great relaxing day! Booked the reservation over the phone, they send a confirmation email with times and link to the lunch menu, and called the day before to confirm your lunch selections. When you get there, they check you in at the front and give you your locker number, in the locker room, you'll find the sweetest lady who gives you the coziest robe and slippers to wear for the day. If you go early before your appointments, there's a jetted tub, steam room, and co-ed float pool. (Bring a swimsuit!) Fresh water, juices, and towels are available everywhere. The treatment rooms and lunch balcony are upstairs; where you'll also find a set up of coffee, teas, pastries, and fruits. When you go upstairs, check in with the lady for your appointments, another lady will give you a warm neck wrap. The facial was ok but the massage I will definitely go back for. Lunch is ok, fresh food. Next time I'd go straight for the jetted tub, steam room, then massage! read more

Never again.  I booked a swedish massage for 50 minutes. I explained at the beginning of the massage that i would pay extra for deep tissue if necessary, but the therapist suggested that we just do a "firm" swedish massage.  Therapist was friendly, but basically lightly rubbed lotion on my body for 20 minutes. Absolutely no pressure applied.  Also the entire session was rushed.  I was in and out of the room in 35 minutes. Therapist spent time during the "massage" loudly rummaging through drawers and cabinets looking for things.  Overall I spent the entire time on the massage table stressing over how horrible the session was. Go for the massage, skip the facial and lunch. The massage was great. The Trellis environment is wonderful and indulgent. However, the 50 minute facial was really 30 minutes. At least ten minutes of lying there with nothing happening while the esthetician tried to find a working pen and scribbled down items they wanted me to buy, and ten minutes where she did a hand massage--nice but did nothing for my face. For this price, the facial is not a good value. I went with a group of women and we finished with lunch. The crab salad had pieces of shell, which made it unappetizing and the service was non-existent--had to go find a pitcher to refill our own water. I'd go back for the massage and pedicure, but skip the rest. read more

This is my favorite spa in Houston! The amenities include an indoor float pool with juice and fruit, a lounge area with snacks and tea (which not all spas have), and a jacuzzi. The customer service is excellent and everyone is very professional. I have visited here multiple times and my massage has always been great! I usually get the Trellis package which includes lunch. The lunch is a little underwhelming but most spa meals I have are. They tend to be healthy and light. It is nice having the option to enjoy lunch there however. I did get a make up lesson and application during one of my visits. The make up artists are talented as well. They did a wonderful job on my make up. The facility itself is very clean and well maintained. Other spas I have been to in Houston are smaller with less amenities. At Trellis, you can spend a whole day here (except on crowded weekends). After going to this spa for 15 years, I will never return. I'm truly disappointed that after they cancelled my appointment two hours prior to my scheduled time, forcing me to reschedule to an inconvenient time, they would not even give me a discount for the inconvenience. So, if we cancel within 24 hours of the appointment, we have to still pay. But, if they cancel on me, I don't even get a 5 or 10 percent discount? The manager said, "we are not in a position to give you a discount." My thoughts? Wow, Trellis Spa must be struggling if they cannot handle a 5 or 10 percent discount after canceling on me and forcing me to reschedule...good thing hotel zaza's spa got me in very quickly instead! read more

This is by far one of the best Spas I've ever been to. I highly recommend it. Except for one problem I've experienced twice there. (This gives them 3 stars) In the upstairs lobby there is a sitting area that is incredibly noisy. It makes you forget you are in a spa. I feel that people can have conversations at a reasonable level without everyone in the room knowing what they are talking about. People should speak softly and respect those who are their for relaxing, not gossiping. It's very over stimulating to walk out of a peaceful service to loud chaos. There was a tranquility room I was able to escape to. I had my lunch on the patio and asked to be moved because a huge group of cackling women followed me out there. I think of a spa as an escape, a peace of mind, a place where you don't have to listen to others complain about life etc. I would highly recommend that Trellis get a hold of the noise level, so they keep their customers. read more

I got a facial here 3 weeks before my wedding. I should also mention that it is my first time getting a facial. I booked an appointment on a weekend, and it was surprisingly (& thankfully) not super packed. I got a customized facial from Veronica, who was prompt, very nice, and gentle. I would have given this place 5 stars if it weren't for the pricey facials. I had compared a few places before I finally booked with them, and they were a lot lower(aprox $100 less). I did notice a difference in my skin after the facial, but not to the extend of the amount of money I paid. Anyway, I'm willing to go back if I ever feel like spending that amount of money on myself again. Overall my experience was okay, and the atmosphere of the place was rather relaxing. read more

She toned down my highlights that were way too brassy looking, cut my hair way better than the stylists I'd been seeing in the 10 years prior, and show me how to blow dry my unruly hair so it lays just right.
