Don't let the name fool you into thinking this is just a regular Mexican restaurant. It's actually a fancy bar restaurant with great food. I love the ambience, dimly lit with trendy decor. I could picture it as a great place for a first date. The staff are extremely friendly and inviting. I got the fish and chips with special request beer batter instead of the default panko crust. It was pretty good. Three large pieces of fish with a nice thin coating. The fries seem fresh cut. They have a good selection of craft beers on tap. I liked the North Coast Laguna Baja beer. Cute small place in a small center. We dined on the patio for Sunday Brunch. This was our first time here. First, I'll say the service was great. The servers were all kind and explained the menu well. My son had the steak and eggs. He ordered it medium rare. It came out more raise so he asked them to flash it then it came back perfect. He said the chimichurri sauce was flavorful. The eggs had a nice fry to the edges while the sunnyside up yolks were still runny. I had the pochetta sandwich. Very fresh and juicy while still having that crispiness which you'd expect from porchetta. The home made French fries and I think home made ketchup were equally as good. Over all a definite place to try. We will return and try their chioppino soon. read more

We ordered the 1) charbroiled fish burrito 2) the charbroiled fish taco and chicken enchilada meal and 3) guacamole and chips from Tres Muchachos. We were impressed with the quality of the food and although their prices were a bit higher than some of their competitors in our neighborhood, the quality and taste of the food made it worthwhile. The charbroiled fish burrito was $12.60. It was pretty tasty and even though the white fish didn't have a strong flavor, it was moist and not 'fishy'. We added beans and rice in the burrito which was complimentary and definitely made the burrito more flavorful. The charbroiled fish taco and enchilada was delicious as well. It came with rice and beans on the side as well for $13.25. There was a pretty big piece of fish in the taco along with some cabbage. The enchilada with green sauce was good, but the chicken bits were slightly chewy and cut in pieces rather than the usual shredded chicken style. The guacamole and chips were $10. The chips were crispy and the guacamole had a nice creamy texture. The guacamole was pretty tasty, but slightly on the blander side. Tres Muchachos is definitely a restaurant that we'd return to based on our most recent experience. read more

I placed an order for Chef Oso's Breakfast Burrito for pickup as I was on a time crunch with plans/errands to take care of. I arrived and got parking by the front door, walked in, and received my order. I went straight to my car and opened the container it was in and snapped a photo. Love at first bite? - Chef Oso's Breakfast Burrito: Love at first bite indeed. Marinated carne asada, handmade local chorizo, scrambled eggs, avocado, pico de gallo, cheese blend, and spinach wrapped in El Metate flour tortillas. What more could you ask for? It tasted amazing and wasn't dripping with grease. The only thing dripping was the drool from my mouth. It came with a side of morning potatoes that I'm not a fan of in general. I prefer fries :). The delicious sauce was in the eggs was mild but I was offered a perfect habanero that had a punch so add in lightly! One knows that there could never be enough spice but the habanero sauce is spicy delicious. Service was great. Very friendly and attentive. Ambiance was chill and enjoyable. Very fresh and a unique taste. We tried the guacamole, salsa and this hummus (not quite sure what was in it) but had this really yummy chimichurri on top. Next, I ordered the New York Steak and Eggs, I'm not the biggest fan of breakfast so I asked if I could sub fries. The steak had the same chimichurri on top, DELISH! I visited her with friends in June 2024 after seeing the Yelp rating (4.8 at the time). When we arrived, there were only 3 other tables so we were happy it wasn't too busy. We were greeted warmly by the host and were promptly seated. Drinks were ordered and food was decided upon - all of which was easily decided as their menu looked so good. While we waited for our food, I ended up getting dripped on by their AC system pipes - they wiped it down pretty quickly when I mentioned it and offered to move our table but we didn't think it was necessary. After our food arrived, that's when a 5-star review turned to a 3-star. The food taste was decent but the portion sizes for the Rib Eye tacos were smaller than we expected. I was disappointed by the price to taste/portion size that was being served. I would have been much happier and had lower expectations if the price was about 25% cheaper than what they are charging. Also, after our food was delivered, it took a long time to get any attention if we needed anything, including the check. This was surprising as 70% of the restaurant was empty. Overall, I would not visit again due to the prices to food value ratio. read more

Finally tried Tres Muchachos on 17th Street in East Side Costa Mesa, just behind Shake Shack. It was absolutely delicious! Ad service was excellent. I had the Al Pastor tacos - some of the best I've ever had ! Good size portions, fresh and flavorful. The salsa verde was just enough spice for my pallet and the passion fruit dressing on the salad was really tasty. Hubby had the Ribeye tacos and he said they were excellent. He devoured them. The menu has a variety of different foods - it's not just Mexican. Check out their menu and go see for yourself. Great wine selection too!
