Awful experience and even that is better than what we got. We did a couples massage and both wouldn't go back for free. I got about 35 minutes of back torture and then half of one leg done and then literally torture to my temples before the buzzer went off. I literally couldn't wait to get out of there. They had Internet radio that yelled commercials every few minutes and on three occasions left the table for about 40 seconds each.... What were they doing??? So I read some reviews and had to comment. My lady was literally on te table digging her elbows into my back and my girlfriend had to say she was ticklish to stop a guy from touching her innaproptriatly. Even better for my lady she completely removed my towel (yup no blanket just a bath towel) for a bit and it was very awkward. I have more to say but I wouldn't go back for free and cant warn people away strongly enough. I wrote that from my Itouch and couldn't finish it so I might as well add that the "waiting room" we were in is in the same room as people getting foot massages and at the desk leaving the guy basically forced us to tip even though it was awful. There were a few other things but again, I couldn't run out of there fast enough (seriously) and a few days later my back sill hurts. read more

This place is a great deal for the money (especially with the yelp deal). My partner and I got an hour-long couples massage for just under $140. The place seems rather new (perhaps under construction?) and the layout was a little strange, but it was clean and the staff welcoming. I had a great massage with a female masseuse- she found my knots and tense areas and worked them out. I was sore the next day, but in a great kind of way! My therapist Yan who worked on me today is a genius! I have had zillions of massages before and they've usually been kind of canned and very formulaic. This place is in a whole other league! First of all, they took me in at very short notice. Thanks to overdoing my workouts I was sore and painful beyond description--every muscle, ligament, & what-have-you in my body was ringing and rebelling with pain. Yan got in there and pummeled the pain out of me. She cured me! She has strong, wise, intelligent hands and her technique is entirely different from the usual deep tissue stuff. My wife and I went here for a 90 minute foot reflexology massage this afternoon and there is no way we will ever go back, for a variety of reasons. First of all, my wife booked the massage on their website--90 minutes feet and legs only listed at $70 per massage. When we arrived the brochure at the desk listed the price as $85. So of course this required an uncomfortable negotiation about the price. Then she told us that 90 minutes is too long for feet only massage so a 30 minute back massage would be included--despite the fact that their brochure offers 90 minute foot reflexology. Although my wife booked the appointment for noon they weren't expecting us until 1pm for some strange reason so we then waited over twenty minutes for the masseuses to arrive. The masseuse assigned to my wife disappeared about 10 minutes into her back massage and was replaced by another woman. The 20 minute back/neck massages were done with a towel draped around our shoulders which I found a bit strange and not terribly comfortable. The foot massage was ok. Then to put a cherry on top of this bizarre experience, we each gave our masseuse a $10.00 tip amounting to approximately 15%. We were then told that the tip needed to be 20% and that we needed to fork over 8 more dollars. Not wanting to deal with any of this nonsense a minute longer we paid the $8 and left with the absolute certainty that we will NEVER set foot in this establishment again. There are many other choices in the area for this type of massage. Do yourself a favor and find another option. read more

I have been searching Boston for a decent masseuse since I moved here to no avail. I have had over 10 massages and have left them all completely unsatiisfied. I purchased a massage on Living Social and based on below recommendations I booked an appointment with Teresa. I went for my massage after spending a week skiing in Canada. A little about the area/space....There is a parking area infront of the building so you do not have to haggle with parking meters. The space is very clean and has a nice Zen like feel to it. I would absolutely ask for a room towards the back since the front rooms are entirely too noisy due to the echo from the reception area and the traffic flow. I agree with some of the below comments that the massage techniques that they use at Tri Zen are definitely different but, I was very happy with my massage. The pressure Teresa used was a bit intense but, when I asked her to go a bit easier she accomodated my request. Teresa knew just what areas needed a little extra work. I left feeling that my muscles were definitely looser and more relaxed. I will definitely go back! read more

Jack or John wouldnt not listen to me when I said no to a body massage when I was there for reflexology only .. proceeded to do a body massage and I told hiim the pressure was very hard and was hurting.. didnt listen.. So was able to get a last minute appointment yesterday. I arrived 15 minutes early and ended up waiting almost 15 past my scheduled time. Gina came out brought me into a room and asked me a few questions about what I was looking to accomplish out of my session. She gave me a good massage but seemed to work on my right side but it Was my left shoulder that need more attention. The only other complaint I have is the is the noise level. I decided to go and get a pedicure yesterday at Tri Zen, I loved the place it looked beautiful and clean inside and had a huge selection of nail colors! However the pedicure was not as good as I expected. The color and paint job came out great however the pedicure was only 15-20 minutes long, and it was not long enough to soak your feet to get everything off and they did not scrub hard enough (after asking them to) to take off dry skin. Went with a friend and we were able to get in right away. This was the best part of our experience. The salon was clean and pretty, but the nail artist was not friendly and did a poor job. I questioned her about getting the dead skin on my heels and she barked that she wasn't done. After my pedicure, my friend said my feet look like they hadn't had a pedicure in a few months. I just returned from having what was a reflexology massage. First I was put in a dark room and left waiting there for 5-10 minutes and told to sit in the corner. It would have been better to be seated in their waiting area until they were really ready for me but I was not invited to do so. I received scalding hot water for my feet. The woman who gave the foot massage is the Asian woman who also happened to leave the room at three separate times to answer the phone. Although of course it would've probably disturbed anyone else who was getting a massage but that wasn't the reason. Maybe they should consider an answering machine or voicemail? If anyone else happened to walk by or have a conversation, the walls are so thin, you could hear it all. When I asked her what part of the body she was working on, via the feet; she read from the jar of cream, sort of winging it and not explaining much at all. Oh and by the way, she ended the massage earlier than the hour. I honestly felt worse after I left and couldn't wait for it to be over. This is a really harsh review, but believe me I have had many massages and this was just unsatisfactory. In all fairness I have had a full body massage there by a different person and she was very good. Again, the acoustics was a issue then too. read more

I had a groupon and went for an hour massage. it was bizarre. they seemed disorganized - the receptionist pointed me into a room and then shut the door and left with no further instruction. after a few minutes I went back out to say I didn't understand - you couldn't really tell from the table which way to lie down and usually a masseuse will ask you if you want to start face down or up. So then the receptionist (and there was a language barrier issue there, odd for a receptionist) got the masseuse Emily (I think) and Emily got the table squared away and gave me instructions. But what was weirder was that she never told me to turn over. the whole thing was one-sided, which I've never experienced in all my many years of spa-going. She did a very nice job on my back, good pressure. but the lack of communication was awkward. I won't bother going back. read more

Went for a couples massage. I was expecting to be able to talk (not that we would, but good to have the option) to my husband during the massage. We walked in and were pointed to the double room, no conversation prior to the massage with the staff. They closed the room door and we weren't sure if we were just supposed to get ready or wait....in the past I've had to fill out forms or sign consents. So we got ready. Two girls with minimal English walked in, very nice, but they kept having conversations in Chinese, which was not relaxing at all. Mine left the room for a minute or so with no explanation. They also used target baby lotion for the massage, no fancy oils or aroma therapy. The massage was alright. There was also a timer, which was a little weird, can't they just have a clock? And the location is next to the highway and railroad, so you can hear a lot of the traffic. Overall, ok. I will try other places first before returning. Oh and they do mount over you on the table , including your head, not sure if it's part of the technique, but use a stool? The base of my skull is very tender today from her pressing at a very uncomfortable spot. read more

I never write reviews, but I feel compelled to do so after my poor experience at Tri Zen Massage. From beginning to end: -I was not asked to complete an info form and I was not asked to identify where I felt pain/needed work prior to the beginning of the massage. -The young man who answered the phones was also the masseuse... -He commented on my jewelery in the middle of the massage and even made a joke about how young I looked. ?? -When massaging my arm, at one point he made a fake cracking noise and then laughed. Um...not funny. -Even though I had booked a full-body massage, he said "there wasn't time" and then asked if I wanted to upgrade to 90 minutes. He asked me this in the MIDDLE of the massage and I thought it was very unprofessional. -He left the room at one point without telling me he was going to leave. When he came back a few minutes later, he asked, "Do you like hot?" Then he proceeded to place hot towels on my back. I admit, it felt good once I relaxed, but it was very bizarre because I hadn't had time to answer. The experience ended up being jarring instead of soothing. -I doubt he had credentials. He was a nice guy, funny, sweet, etc., but I have had many massages before and I could tell that he was not practicing any techniques. At one point, he massaged the side of my neck and just moved his hand in circles. My neck began to hurt after two straight minutes of this! I hate feeling like I've been taken advantage of as a new customer (one with a groupon, no less) and the rest of the day I couldn't help but feel violated to some degree. I don't see this business lasting long with such poor services and practices, but I feel others should know about my experience before spending their hard-earned money on Tri Zen. I have been coming to this salon for years. I was always satisfied with my manicures and pedicures but after coming back today I can not say the same. I came in with my mom to get mani pedis. First of all my nail technician didn't do a super thorough job removing the toe nail polish that I already had on which was annoying because it showed through the sides of the color I chose for my pedicure. When she filed my nails down she didn't even make sure they were all the same length, so I had her ask her to go back to a few. I thought that was lazy. When I was getting my gel manicure I noticed the manicure was drying in a streaky uneven way, so I asked her to coat over a few of them again, leaving the other ones a lighter shade. I knew my nail technician realized that they weren't drying probably, but she left to help another client, leaving her coworker to rush my through a paraffin treatment and act like she didn't notice they looked lumpy. I pointed it out and they apologized and said they were too busy but if I come back the next day I can get them re done. I am very disappointed with how unprofessional and lazy the employees acted here and now I have to take more time out of my Friday afternoon to come back and get my manicure re done. If I could give zero stars I would. I went for a couple massage with my girlfriend last night and it was the worse experience I have had at a massage place. First of all, the therapists arrived at least 15 minutes late,second of all the therapists did not bother to ask us what type of massage we preferred or if we had any injuries or areas that needed extra attention, thirdly the therapists talked to each other throughout the entire massage! To top it off, both of the therapists' phones rang on loud , and one of them even answered her phone and proceeded to have a couple minute conversation ! I bought a Groupon for this place for a massage and had it today. The place is in a new building on Washington Street. There is a small parking lot as well as ample street parking. The place was very clean and well appointed. Grace was the name of my masseuse. She was very courteous and asked my input several times during the massage. She did a good job. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because 1) I could hear the conversations in the hallway during my massage & 2) they had an irritating buzzer in the room to indicate the end of the session. She wasn't afraid to give me a deep tissue prenatal massage & was really able to maintain a good amount of pressure for 90 minutes. Friendly staff. The massage itself from Teresa was really good, she did a lot of things that I've never had in a massage before and it was one of the best I've ever had, actually. She knows what she's doing. BUT...I had to knock off 2 stars for 1. Being left waiting on the table for 20 mins waiting - I arrived 5 mins early because I thought you'd have to fill out paperwork like at most places I've been to - no paperwork, didn't even ask my name just rushed me into the room and left - I'm pretty sure she was literally in the middle of someone else's massage. So I was left waiting on the table for 20 mins for my massage to start 2. Another masseuse asked her something from outside and she answered in Chinese and then ran out of the room (while almost knocking over the oils and table) and then talked to her for a min or so - sorry but you don't leave a massage in the middle it's just really unprofessional. But really overall I may go back bc the massage was that good. read more
