We ordered a few appetizers but my favorite was the watermelon salad. I could have eaten that all night and been happy. My fish was cooked perfectly. The veggies were nicely charred. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the mole sauce with the French fries, but I think that is personal preference. We did get the chocolate cake with raspberries. It was very decadent. If you don't know where you're going, this place could be a little bit of a challenge to find. Basically go to the Houstonian, pull up to the valet walk in the building and hang a right. It's a pretty nice place where they push your chair in for you, and bring you warm rolls one at a time. I asked, and received a second one, but it's clear they didn't really expect me to ask for a second one. When you go, get a second one, they're great! I think you have to be a guest of a member to be here? I was a guest, and he had the Flounder Oscar, so I had the same thing. Perfectly cooked fish, some crab on top, with a side of asparagus. Just the right amount of food for a good solid meal without being too much. The food was tasty, the service was great, but expect to pay about $50 a person for lunch. If the price doesn't bother you, go for it. For me it's hard to justify spending that much for lunch hence the four stars rather than the five. read more

Came here for lunch and had a great experience. I ordered the chicken and vegetables. The service was extremely fast, and the staff was very polite and attentive. The chicken was juicy and well-seasoned. The vegetables were okay, but they could have used a bit more seasoning. From the host to my table to paying my bill, this restaurant for me personally is the absolute best in Houston in terms of hospitality. The test felt so timeless and cozy, comfortable without so much pizazz which made me feel at home. Hector was my primary server and he was just phenomenal. Gonzo who poured my wine was sweet and his suggestions were top notch. Christa who cleared my table after a free my finished dishes, sweet and caring. I wis I caught the name of the gentleman who served me my food but I never got a chance to look at his tag. But I want to thank him as well. The Houstonian has been such a staple in our family's life. My husband's uncle lived there for many, many years and it was a place for countless celebrations. Weddings. Holidays parties. Baby showers. Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Fundraisers. So nice to be able to get together with the extended family for a beautiful breakfast on Thanksgiving Friday with around 50 family members. Grandparents. Sisters. Brothers. Aunts. Uncles. Nieces and nephews. So lucky to be able to have all of my immediate family come to create more family memories while reminiscing about prior events. It has always been a tradition to get together for Thanksgiving, but this time was truly magical as the family tree keeps growing and growing. So much love! For breakfast, we shared a couple of salmon Benedicts and pancakes for our nuclear family of five. So full from the Thanksgiving cousin lunch the day before. Service was great. Our hostess even took a beautiful photo with four generations on the patio. So cute to see the littlest members of the crew run around climbing in and out of chairs or laps as my children made plans to visit their first and second cousins. The host was nice enough but not welcoming , seated us in a crunched up table in the bar despite the whole restaurant virtually empty. Table pretty much should have been family style as both tables next to us were so close we might we seemed to be in the middle of everyone else's conversations. I was served promptly for cocktails at The Bar and the outdoor seating weather was absolutely perfect between 5-6 in spring... they give you complimentary mixture of snacks at the bar with your drink... I also ordered the wagyu carpaccio and all the ingredients were there but they were slightly unbalanced. The lemon was overpowering ever so slightly so I found if I ate less of the greens it was saturated on - it was much better - of course wagyu melts in the mouth and the blue veined cheese was SO AMAZINg I love blue cheese anything - it left me wanting for more blue cheddar to balance out the sour of the lemon - the shallots added a wonderful crunch to the medley of textures but I would've, again liked all the flavors and textures in proportion to one another. More of the cheddar, surely. It was delicious regardless - Wagyu carpaccio can't not be delightful. Service was lovely aside from the initial greeting at the bar the Madam seemed like she was not having the best day... I'm a bit grumpy on my menses maybe she's on hers. First. The service here is phenomenal. And that's a given. We've been here multiple times and have always had the best experiences. Second. The wine room. Ambience is perfect for a special date or celebration. It is a private reservation that you have to book outside the Tribute but it's totally worth it for a special occasion! Third. The food. We were celebrating our first anniversary at the Wine Room and had a menu designed for the occasion, so keep that in mind - every item was perfectly cooked and plated and DELICIOUS. It was also a tasting menu so these portions are "smaller" to keep us from getting overwhelmed - that said, it was still very filling! -Oysters -Arugula Salad - this is my favorite salad... and I don't eat salad regularly. Dinner was great and complemented with excellent service, wine and conversation with the sommelier and executive chef. The decor is rustic chic and the dining room was intimate even with ~30 people at the peak. The food was great including a burger that our daughter scored 9 out of 10. Normally I wouldn't be able to afford to eat at a place like this. Luckily, school has deep pockets so I was able to come on a nice Thursday evening. Since it was a group reservation we were given a pre-set menu which is completely fine by me. Everything turned out to be phenomenal. Even the bread! Started off with a caesar salad. It looked like the most standard salad but tasted great. Not to sound too pretentious or frou-frou, but you could really taste each component. Next, I got the redfish. Paired nicely with the roasted corn and jicama. Finally ended the night with an Italian cream cake. It was perfect - not too sweet but just sweet enough. Service was kind and attentive throughout the meal. In past experiences with pre-set meals at restaurants, I've noticed that service tends to lack. But that certainly wasn't the case here. I like the seating and the idea that every single employee was wearing a mask and wearing it properly! A big plus. You didn't feel crowded with other patrons sitting so close to you. We stayed at the Houstonian and for convenience decided to eat at the on-site restaurant, Tribute. We had the tortilla soup and Medina apple salad for starters and both were excellent choices. They bring fresh, warm from the oven rolls that remind you of what grandma used to make. Served with sweet butter. So good. We all had the Texas Black Angus Filet Mignon. This was supposed to be an 8 ounce offering and there is no way that was accurate. 5 ounces at the most. Also Anna potatoes and buttermilk blue spring onion accompanying the dish were more of a suggestion and not at all memorable. For hungry steak lovers, I can't recommend this choice. We dined early therefore the restaurant was not busy. I would have expected our waiter to be more attentive. We ordered a very expensive bottle of wine and had to pour it ourselves. That's fine but in a fine dining experience, not typical. The ambience was also not elegant as I would have expected. There is a large table full of glasses in the middle of the dining area like they were being stored. Seemed out of place to me. For the price, the main course selection we chose was just ok. All I can say is WOW. The customer service is out of this world. The best customer service you can imagine plus more. They served our every need and were very proactive in asking and checking to see what we might need. At this place you can buy a bottle and store it in a glass locker in the restaurant. The whiskey selection is out of this world and offer whiskeys most other establishments would never have as an option. Lets just say I was viewing Japanese whiskey and Maker's Mark is far from my emergency standard option. The food is absolutely amazing. I ordered the Tuna salad and my partner ordered an omelette. Food was great and no complaints. They say everything is bigger in Texas and the food portions here definitely supported that motto. The restaurant is very elegant and CLEAN! In addition they have beautiful floor to ceiling windows and unique light fixtures. I 150% recommend dining at this restaurant if you are even remotely in the location. I hosted four friends to dinner last night at the Tribute restaurant in the Houstonian hotel. The ambience was lovely and relatively quiet, so we could actually hear our conversation. Our server, Gonzo, was super accommodating and very friendly and attentive. And, the Food was exceptional!. At Gonzo's recommendation, I ordered the venison speical which he suggested would go best with our wine... it was a Napa Valley cabernet savignon, and it paired really well with the venison, which was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. Everyone else started with a salad and ordered something different from mine, (the braised Pork Pibil, the Creole Bouillabaisse, the Wood-Gilled Redfish and the seared Yellowfin tuna), and all raved about their dishes. Now for the good stuff, the food... If you didn't already know Houston is a diverse city and the diversity of its residents is found in every single restaurant. Restaurant menus are infused with so many backgrounds & I love that I can get the best crab au gratin and sopes as small plates here. If I want a traditional steak I can get it or try something completely different like the wagyu short rib. Tribute stands on it's own. Houston is a restaurant town and competition is fierce. Most hotel restaurants are Meh at best. Tribute surprised me. The remodeled space is first class and the service was excellent but the food was the star of the show. I was with a group so we had a chance to try a lot of menu items. I like the menu's homage to Texas, Louisianna & Mexico (hence Tribute I assume). The salads and appetizers were solid (quail was great). The redfish was perfect and unique. While I don't recognize jicama as a legitimate side, it wasn't bad and the others we shared were good. The lamb chop was really good and it's clear they are doing their own Texas style smoking back in the kitchen. Cab by the glass is usually underwhelming but Tribute nailed their choice. It was delicious and from Mexico...who knew. All shared deserts were too much but fantastic. As a very frequent traveler and dinner host at restaurants all over the country, I think Tribute stands out as one of the top tier hotel restaurants and should definitely be on the list of any local diner. I grew up on creole dishes from Louisiana natives, so I know the difference for example between Texas creole soup and true Louisiana #brownroux gumbo. With that said the Boudin is delicious layered with tasso, brisket and topped with a creole spicy sauce. But the creole flavor is just part of it, there is also a hint of Tex-Mex ingredients with a side of hash browns and spicy bell peppers.
