Walked in on a late Saturday afternoon and even though we didn't have reservations they were able to accommodate us at the bar. Mark, the bartender, was very personable and was able to help us modify our dinner orders to ensure they were gluten free, all while keeping up with making drinks for a very active bar and restaurant. While deciding what to eat the chef came out and talked to us and convinced me to try the swordfish "greek island style" with fresh tomatoes, Kalamata olives and capers. It was delicious and I highly recommend it. My friend had the Shrimp Maren modified over gluten free pasta. Portions are generous and the menu has lots of choices. Nice alternative from the busier downtown area. Super friendly and accommodating staff. Generous portions at fair prices. Bar area also worth checking out as it was quite lively the Thursday we were there. I'm a huge fan of the booths. My first time eating at Trips. I was apart of a group of 13. The service was manageable and waiting for service was expected due to the number of others eating. The food was delicious as you can see from my choice of the entree. I would recommend others to Trips. The service was impecable to say the least, 3 people (owner 1x, chef1x & and waiter 2xs) checked to see on how we were enjoying our food. I had the Hungarian Beef Goulash with Rice pilaf which was very tasty and the beef was tender and my spouse has the filet of sole with Rice Pilaf and Broccoli and enjoyed it very much, particularly because, while tasty, it wasn't overly salted and help support the salt dietary restriction. Our server, Jessica, was accommodating, very pleasant and cheerful and should be commended for her attentiveness. I highly recommend this restaurant and will go back. read more

Went to a friend's birthday dinner at Trips Restaurant on Saturday . It was about 50 mins from my home. It was inviting,a family atmosphere, we had two waiters who were very pleasant and the service was impeccable! The food was delicious and to top it off the owner came over to greet us. So many great things to say. Gabriel was our waiter tonight and was amazing. Maria was his partner for our table and she is an absolute gem!!!! The mussels are so good we could t decide between bread or a spoon for the juice. I would order a bowl of just the juice with a loaf of bread and be happy. He said, "it is not about the money, it is about treating people as if they just walked into our family's dining room." The first thing I noticed when we walked in was how far apart the tables were. It was a comfortable dining experience without losing the feeling of being out to a nice restaurant. It was the first time eating at Trips' and my boyfriend and I couldn't have been more satisfied. We both got two orders of french onion soup which was made with the french bread soaked in the bottom of the bowl. Delicious. Next, we decided on two pasta dishes, Pasta Mediterranean and Penne Alla Vodka with Chicken. Both dishes were very generous with the right amout of flavor. When our dishes first came out, I thought they looked soupy but after mixing it with how much pasta was in the dish, it was just right. We both had to take home our plates with no room for dessert. Before our check came, the same owner brought out a small dish of their rice pudding to taste. If you're looking for something more than fast food and casual quick dining, this is the place. It's family owned and operated so it has tons of personal authenticity. The family checks in with every table to see how they're doing. Even with it being my first time here, I felt like a regular. The server's suggestions for appetizers and entrees was perfect. She described the fried mozzarella as "ooey-gooey melted mozzarella with a crispy fried batter" and it was exactly that. What an amazing experience! After living in Stamford for 10 years, and passing Trips too many times to count, we gave it a shot and it's safe to say we have a new FAVORITE. We didn't have a reservation but it was early enough (around 6:30) that we didn't think it would be a problem. There is ample parking in the back and even on the side roads. When we first walked in, what a pleasant feeling! Almost like you just walked in to a good friends' living room and instantly felt at home. We were greeted immediately by the owner Corky who sat us at a very nice table in the front of the restaurant. You can tell from the crowd, the food is solid and everyone knows each other. There are so many restaurants in Stamford, yet so many have turned numerous times and the food is just ehh. Not good enough to leave lasting impressions. Coming from someone who has very high expectations and is nothing short of picky. Turns out....the owner, Corky looked familiar and is a member of a past gym I belonged to. Small world! I felt like we were best friends already! The menu is quite large and has SOO many great options. There's both an Italian and Greek influence (ode to Corky's parents) and far too many amazing options to choose from. My fiance ordered the lobster bisque soup which was LIFE CHANGING and I got a cup of the Manhattan Clam Chowder. Talk about clams in EVERY bite. They don't mess around. I ordered a dirty martini which was absolutely delightful and my fiance had a very nice glass of Chianti. We were thrilled! Great atmosphere, solid food, and most of the people working there are Corky's family. True recipe for success. For the main courses, I ordered the Shrimp Maren which I had been eyeing from the pictures on the train and my fiance had the pork chop Italian style. My dish had shrimp, feta, tomatoes and TONS of flavor. It was absolutely delicious and boy was the portion enough for three. The pork chop was gigantic and came with mashed potatoes and carrots. We can't wait to go back. Beyond full at this moment, but we had to have dessert. We split the peanut butter pie which was probably the best I've had and even got to taste the signature rice pudding. This coming from a chocoholic and BIG sweets fan. Let the record show that we are both not fans of rice pudding and that changed after Corky let us try his recipe. A nice after dinner drink of Sambuca and I was a kid in a candy shop. Do yourself a favor and try this gem that ranks with the likes of Cafe Sylvium and Capital Grille. Biggest difference, every time you go in, you feel like you are special and you are treated like family. All around 5 stars and we both can't wait to return. read more

Found this hidden gem on yelp on my first trip to Stamford. Food was delicious. The onion soup was fantastic. The flavor strong and the cheese plentiful. Next onto the prime rib. It was served perfectly medium rare; incredibly flavorful and the portion sumptuous. AND to top it off not only was our server Mary an absolute delight, the owner, Corky whom was present was a wonderful and generous host both of whom were working to ensure a most pleasant evening. How have I not been here before? It's true; Tripps seems to be a place for a bit of an older crowd. But, I understand why- the food is good, and when you're too tired to cook at home, why not go out to eat somewhere that is nice, not too expensive, has friendly staff, and can cook a tasty prime rib. This is definitely family run - I am pretty sure the man who sat us at our table was the owner. Everyone here seems to want to make sure you're happy. Case in point: other half ordered the prime rib, preferred it rare. Our waitress came back to let us know it's more medium rare, and to check if that's okay. He said yes, of course. She came back again, it might be a bit more medium, he also said OK. Then when she delivered it, she let him know that it is cooked a bit more that rare, but should be very tender and juicy. She showed so much care in making sure he was happy. And he really was - I don't think there was an ounce of meat left. I had the chicken marco.. something I have never before seen on a menu. It was delicious - angel hair, tomatoes, chicken, and so much cheese. I could not even finish the whole thing. The bread is also delicious, and the oil is so garlicy good, I could have almost drank it. And, they have monthly specials, it seems, so the total bill for us was under $40. Amazing. Went here for dinner on New Years Eve. Great food! I had the swordfish with veggies. Super well cooked. The fish was so tasty and just right. Veggies well steamed and crunchy just the way I like them. The decor is lovely, the service is good. The crowd was an older one. Not too loud. Some portions are big. I have to admit Trips exceeded my expectations. The dining room is elegant and cozy. The owners greeted our table and our server was very professional, helpful, and attentive. For appetizers we had the mussels served in a garlic chardonnay broth. They were amazing and fresh. The bread rolls delicious with olive oil and dipping the bread in the mussel broth was a little piece of heaven. We also have the Greek Bruschetta which had feta cheese and olives piled over breaded eggplant. I was getting full because I couldn't stop dipping my bread in the mussel broth. For entrees we had Viscardi's delight which was breaded chicken cutlet and eggplant layered with marinara sauce and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. It was a large portion and very tasty and fresh. All the other dishes ordered at my table looked yummy too. For desert we had the warm apple pie served with vanilla ice cream and I have to say it may have been the best apple pie I have ever had. I also tried the pistachio ice cream which had great flavor, color and texture. I enjoyed my deserts with a Frangelico and baileys cappuccino which was beautifully layered in a tall glass with just the right amount of foam and cinnamon on top. Everything was so delicious. This still family owned and run business previously spent decades as Viscardi's in Greenwich and has regulars whose parents took them for Sunday dinner as children back in the day, with good reason. For valentine's day last year my mister brought me two of their French onion soups (amazing even as take out) and he was my hero yet again, that is how much I love their French onion soup. Atmosphere is friendly, bar is always crowded with lively regulars, familiar conversation flows constantly between staff and patrons and drink pours are hearty. Menu is full of tasty choices most are fairly heavy though ( think old school steakhouse ). $18.95 for a fantastic prime rib (I call ahead to reserve an end piece) and wait for it... I stopped by earlier this month for my girlfriends birthday and have got to say that you guys went above and beyond for us. When we arrived our table had balloons and happy birthday confetti all over and my girlfriend was so amazed as was i. The place its self is beautiful and the staff made us feel very welcomed, one of the owners even stopped by the table to say happy birthday and chatted up with us for a little. I have been traveling to Stamford twice a month now for business and after several stops at other spots I decided to get my prime rib on! The reviews were very favorable so I stopped by. I sat in the bar and that was my mistake. I had to listen to 2 guys older than me try every trick in the book to hit on a couple women at the bar.
