Tropical Curry and Grill is super close to us, and i often see it popping up on my yelp suggestions, so i'm surprised we hadn't tried it yet until recently! It's really highly rated here, and the reviews don't lie! It's really yummy and really decently sized portions! It's one of those places where you can get takeout and have enough for one more meal at least! My partner got the lamb saag--very hearty and flavorful. i got the vindalo chicken curry...ok i gotta say it was a lot spicier than i expected, but it was a good spicy like the type where you can tell they put a lot of love and good, fresh ingredients into the curry rather than adding spice to makeup in other areas. Tbh the next day i had to add in some more veggies to lessen the spice out on my curry...but that's just me. i'm a little weak lol. My only small gripe was that i wish there was more veggies in my dish as well...i know the base is predominantly a blend of veggies, but i do prefer having chewable veggie toppings in my curry rather than just straight purée. There was a good amount of chicken chunks though. We also got two servings of the garlic naan. Naan was great but a bit smaller than what we're used to. Stopping by on a rainy Saturday night, we were the only ones there, as it appears to be mostly a takeout place. The guy at the register was super nice, sat us, and got us waters. We ordered the garlic naan, Karaikudi Goat Curry, and Saag Paneer. Overall, the garlic naan was good although not my favorite. The naan itself wasn't super crispy or soft, and the garlic flavors weren't very strong. The Goat curry was delicious, and the goat was tender with a nice amount of fat and ligaments. I'm not huge on spice, but the medium spice level was just right for me. A nice kick but didn't linger very long. The Saag was also creamy and delicious. I had the chicken saag on a later visit and the chicken used was dark meat and was very tender. Prices here are pretty good compared with the ones at other Indian places as well. This place is great and may become our new regular location for Indian food. read more

I ordered the saag paneer, mango lassi, and naan. I was so disappointed with the saag paneer. It lacked flavor and I didn't enjoy eating my food at all. This was the worst saag paneer that I've had. The mango lassi also had a a strange distinct taste- something about the lassi tasted really off. Also, the staff wasn't very friendly. The cashier kept going back and forth behind a curtain and seemed like he didn't want to be bothered. There were also bugs flying around the restaurant. I really like this place. The chicken stew special is pretty good, the rice is the perfect portion, and the mango lassi isn't overly sweet. The staff is polite and the girl at the front was helpful when I wanted to try something new. I like that the curry comes in a Togo bowl so I can just throw a lid on it, very convenient. read more

They recommended beef Nalli Haleem it was a bomb of delicious flavorful gravy recommended!! This is a flavorful thicker version of regular haleem. We had the goat chops that were tender although the egg gave it a fishy aftertaste but still cooked to perfection. Chicken tikka was delicious! And so was the biryani. We would come back again!! When we are going to meet our Indian/Muslim friend for lunch, I'm often the one tasked with finding a restaurant that is Halal. So I google halal restaurants near me and Tropical Curry and Grill came up. I'm always scared when I see the word curry because I don't think it's a favorite of mine and because (if you're like me) I can't make heads or tails of all the different names of the dishes. Fortunately, the dishes in the menu gave a pretty good description of what the meat was and how it was prepared. I chose the Beef Nalli Nihari (which has a little bone marrow in it). It was FABULOUS!!! A little spicy (but not too much) came with an abundance of gravy and will probably be what I will order EVERYTIME we go there. Five of us were at lunch that day but I will let them each write there own review which will be as good and positive as mine. It was so good that even though it has been less than a month, we thought we needed more of that yummy food again. I am 69 years old and this is the 1st time I have ever ordered Indian take out food & it was just as yummy as the 1st visit and was plentiful as well. My spouse ordered a dish that came with rice and so the portion of rice was enough for us to share, that made us happy! **TIP** Be sure to ask if your dish comes with rice because it isn't always clear on the menu. The Aloo samosas (potatoes & peas) were good and we liked the ROTI better than the Garlic Naan that we found might have been better if more wet with garlicky butter. The decoration is pretty and subtle and we felt very comfortable. It is in a strip center but is a gem we want and hope others will try in order to keep it open as a neighborhood go to! It is in Pflugerville but just 2 blocks from IH35 on Grand Ave. The owner and cook came out & spoke to us and we remarked to her how much we enjoyed the meal. we all then left with our "left overs" so we could enjoy the food one more time at home! Great reviews so we thought we'd give it a try! We went on a Sunday night and the place was completely empty. The smell wasn't that great... kind of musky and smelled like a giant ash tray. My husband quickly figured out that the smoky smell was coming from the bar next door. We decided to stay anyways. The menu that they have in restaurant doesn't have descriptions or pictures so if you're not familiar with Indian food, look at the website menu (it at least has pics). They didn't have the kids nuggets so we settled for the Naan Pizza w/ chicken. The chicken was a little spicy for our little guy so he didn't eat much. The fries were good and came with ketchup & Mayo dipping sauces. We started with Samosas which were great! My husband had the Butter Chicken Masala. He said it was good and spicy. We ordered extra butter naan bread (they were out of the garlic naan). I had the goat karaikudi and was warned that it was very spicy. The first bite hit me hard with that gamey goat flavor but was quickly chased off by the delicious flavor and spice of the curry sauce. It was really flavorful! I also ordered extra roti to eat with my curry and it was fantastic! We tried to order two fountain drinks but the fountain machine was out of order. The only drink offerings they had in the cooler were bottled water, canned Pepsi, and canned Diet Pepsi. I also asked for some raita (yogurt/cucumber sauce) to cool my palate and one small side cup was $1. Overall, the food was delicious! The staff was friendly and kind. We frequent this place often but tonight was a disaster. I ordered chicken lollipops and my husband had tikka masala. The chicken was tough to say the least. My jaw is still sore from trying to enjoy my pops. Also, the naan was chewy and I noticed one side was hard, as if it had been reheated. I called to try to get a credit for half the meal or full compensation and I was told everything was fresh and they'd offer $5 credit for a $30 meal with a $5 tip for barely edible food. Also my husband mentioned the order was ready within 5 mins. Which makes me think the food had been left over from last night. We placed our order as soon as they opened, so this is highly likely. Has to be the best Indian in the area. Kadai Chicken was incredible. Creamy, spicy and flavorful. They use chicken thighs, and I love the tenderness of thighs, but some of the pieces are not the best haha. Still 5/5. Butter chicken is hands down the best we've had in the area, and mayyyybe even ever. 5/5 Gobi manchurian had delicious flavor, also pretty spicy. I'm sure they would accommodate if someone was wanting mild. 5/5 Samosas were perfect - not too hard or crunchy. Literally perfect crisp. Love the filling too. The green sauce is especially good from here. 5/5 Mango lassi was delicious and fresh. There I was, hungry and defeated after a great day at work. I was looking for something a bit different but familiar to me. I decided to look for takeout spots. This spot came up. What did I do? I checked the menu and was surprised by everything. I ordered my food and got several curry dishes, fried rice with paneer, and dessert. The food said it would take like 30 mins to get ready. Well, I drove for 15 minutes to get to this spot, and these guys got my order ready within 19 minutes in total. That's some super speed type ish going on. They're probably X-Men working there as a disguise but who is to speculate? I asked them how long they've been opened. They said, "Since November." For real?! I never knew that they opened for that timeframe whatsoever. I would have gladly gone here sooner than yesterday to check everything out. I love food and I love curry, so how did this go under my radar? Impossible but it happened. I get my food and I head back home. What did I order? Paneer tikka masala, chicken breast tikka masala, butter chicken, and fried rice with paneer along with gulab jamun. I also requested naan bread but ended up with roti. It is what it is though for the naan cause I ain't have naan of it. Get it? Get it? Nevermind... I took the dishes out of the bag, unsealed every bowl and went to town. The curries are damn quite good. Creamy, savory, flavorful--just mesmerizing. Nothing tasted forced or off. Now, to be quite frank--the chicken tikka masala would have been better IF the meat was sliced thinly like how the chicken was in the butter chicken. The paneer tikka masala was different because the paneer weren't cube-like. The paneer were like strips. Now the surprise for me was easily the fried rice with paneer. That shit was FIRE, especially eating it with the curries. How did I enjoy my food? I loved pretty much everything and just hated that I got full too quickly. This spot actually is the best Indian food in all of Pflugerville. Not saying this lightly either. My final score? 9.2/10: 5 Star Certified. read more

Wow. For those who know... I feel like I'm in Bellaire/Houston, TX. The portions here are massive and the food is made fresh to order. I love it! I ordered the goat Biryani, and it was so damn good! There was a ton of goat meat, and the ratio between that and rice is just perfecto. I did think an extra slice of lime would have made it much better though. Over all 9.7/10. My partner ordered Kadai chicken, which I've only eaten with peppers. However my partner doesn't like too spicy of foods, and they accommodated for her levels. Although, I miss the spicy, that they hit it out of the park with their kadai chicken. My partner loved it too. Chicken was tender and wonderfully cooked. Wow, what a gem! Everything we had was a 10/10, no joke. Being the only ones in the restaurant always gives me a good feeling at Indian restaurants, especially newer ones. You're getting all their love and attention! This place deserves a packed house though. Few of the highlights - -chicken 65 - cooked to perfection. Amazing flavor, not too heavy on sauce. We ordered two curries - kadai paneer and veggie korma. Korma is my all-time favorite curry and I was so pleased with theirs. It was so creamy an delicious and packed full of veggies! Our new favorite place and we have been to probably every Indian restaurant in the Austin Metro area. We had chicken 65, goat, devil chicken wings, malai kofta, and chicken haka noodles and added veggies and egg to the noodles. All the food was EXCELLENT and was beyond our expectation! Prices are super good and 99% of the food on the menu is under 9 bucks curries come with rice and roti!!!
