Tropical Curry and Grill is super close to us, and i often see it popping up on my yelp suggestions, so i'm surprised we hadn't tried it yet until recently! It's really highly rated here, and the reviews don't lie! It's really yummy and really decently sized portions! It's one of those places where you can get takeout and have enough for one more meal at least! My partner got the lamb saag--very hearty and flavorful. i got the vindalo chicken curry...ok i gotta say it was a lot spicier than i expected, but it was a good spicy like the type where you can tell they put a lot of love and good, fresh ingredients into the curry rather than adding spice to makeup in other areas. Tbh the next day i had to add in some more veggies to lessen the spice out on my curry...but that's just me. i'm a little weak lol. My only small gripe was that i wish there was more veggies in my dish as well...i know the base is predominantly a blend of veggies, but i do prefer having chewable veggie toppings in my curry rather than just straight purée. There was a good amount of chicken chunks though. We also got two servings of the garlic naan. Naan was great but a bit smaller than what we're used to. Overall, great little indian restaurant, and we'll def be back to try more things!

Stopping by on a rainy Saturday night, we were the only ones there, as it appears to be mostly a takeout place. The guy at the register was super nice, sat us, and got us waters. We ordered the garlic naan, Karaikudi Goat Curry, and Saag Paneer. Overall, the garlic naan was good although not my favorite. The naan itself wasn't super crispy or soft, and the garlic flavors weren't very strong. The Goat curry was delicious, and the goat was tender with a nice amount of fat and ligaments. I'm not huge on spice, but the medium spice level was just right for me. A nice kick but didn't linger very long. The Saag was also creamy and delicious. I had the chicken saag on a later visit and the chicken used was dark meat and was very tender. Prices here are pretty good compared with the ones at other Indian places as well. This place is great and may become our new regular location for Indian food.

I ordered the saag paneer, mango lassi, and naan. I was so disappointed with the saag paneer. It lacked flavor and I didn't enjoy eating my food at all. This was the worst saag paneer that I've had. The mango lassi also had a a strange distinct taste- something about the lassi tasted really off. Also, the staff wasn't very friendly. The cashier kept going back and forth behind a curtain and seemed like he didn't want to be bothered. There were also bugs flying around the restaurant. Overall, I was pretty disappointed and unimpressed by my experience.

My fam and I revisited this amazing place again today and all ordered something different. We each gave our dish 5 stars. Absolutely delicious. Each meal carries a spicy punch and the flavors burst in your mouth. The portions are perfection and prices reasonable. We devoured the naan again, but I highly recommend it. Butter and garlic, soft texture that melts in the sauces of each dish. Yummmmy.

The reviews were true and have yet to steer me wrong! That's why I use Yelp lol. First time trying, order for pickup on DoorDash because I had some credits and I was not disappointed at all. Food was ready on time and is 5 minutes from my house. There was no wait I got my food and went straight home to eat. Absolutely delicious chicken saag & garlic naan. Reasonably priced, terrific flavors, the cilantro mixed in stood out, the chicken was tender and pulled apart easily. I definitely recommend and will return

    Chicken Tikka Masala with Naan

Ordered Chicken Tikka Masala (mild) and an order of Naan the other night online. Super easy and quite resonably priced (Total was $13). The Tikka Masala was rich and smooth with several chunks of chicken breast throughout. The meal itself came with rice and a piece of bread (thin but like naan... unsure of it's exact name) although I ordered a side of Naan too. The portion size was generous so my daughter and I were able to share the order. Very delicious.

Great reviews so we thought we'd give it a try! We went on a Sunday night and the place was completely empty. The smell wasn't that great... kind of musky and smelled like a giant ash tray. My husband quickly figured out that the smoky smell was coming from the bar next door. We decided to stay anyways. The menu that they have in restaurant doesn't have descriptions or pictures so if you're not familiar with Indian food, look at the website menu (it at least has pics). They didn't have the kids nuggets so we settled for the Naan Pizza w/ chicken. The chicken was a little spicy for our little guy so he didn't eat much. The fries were good and came with ketchup & Mayo dipping sauces. We started with Samosas which were great! My husband had the Butter Chicken Masala. He said it was good and spicy. We ordered extra butter naan bread (they were out of the garlic naan). I had the goat karaikudi and was warned that it was very spicy. The first bite hit me hard with that gamey goat flavor but was quickly chased off by the delicious flavor and spice of the curry sauce. It was really flavorful! I also ordered extra roti to eat with my curry and it was fantastic! We tried to order two fountain drinks but the fountain machine was out of order. The only drink offerings they had in the cooler were bottled water, canned Pepsi, and canned Diet Pepsi. I also asked for some raita (yogurt/cucumber sauce) to cool my palate and one small side cup was $1. Overall, the food was delicious! The staff was friendly and kind. Next time we'll probably order to-go and enjoy at home.

Dry and hard chicken lollipops. Leftover from the night before.

One of the most memorable dishes we had was a special that our server highly recommended--and it was truly a showstopper. I wish I had gotten the exact name because I can't find it on their online menu, but visually and flavor-wise it was stunning. It came wrapped and cooked in a banana leaf, layered with rich, velvety saag, what tasted like thin dosa or chapati layers, egg, aromatic spices, tender chunks of meat, and curry, all melded together into this beautifully perfumed, steamy package. It was served with a cooling yogurt sauce and a chili sauce that balanced the heat perfectly. The presentation alone was gorgeous, and the flavors were deep, earthy, and incredibly comforting. We also ordered the curry goat, which was delicately spiced with a wonderful, slow-building heat. The meat was tender, the gravy rich without being heavy, and it paired perfectly with the simple white rice that let the complex spices shine. The tandoori goat chops were the family favorite by far. Everyone loved the smoky char and bold marinade. Personally, I found them a bit softer than I prefer, but the flavor was outstanding--robust, well-seasoned, and unmistakably tandoori. Finally, we ordered the Tandoori Pomfret to go, and I had it later with rice porridge. It was absolutely scrumptious. The fish was fragrant, beautifully spiced, and still juicy, making it the perfect comfort meal with the warm, soothing porridge. Overall, Subham Chettinad Grill delivers authentic, soulful Indian cooking with layers of spice, heat, and aroma that feel both traditional and thoughtfully prepared. If you're looking for real South Indian and Chettinad-style flavors in Austin, this place is a must-try.

There were barely any people on a Saturday night which made us feel a little apprehensive after stepping in. The restaurant was dimly lit and restrooms were dirty. We were a group of 4 people, two of whom are Maharashtrian and know what the food tastes like. Comments for individual dishes: Vada pav - Not served with Mumbai pav but slider buns which is as unauthentic as can be. Sabudana vada - Crispy, tasted good, served with sweet yogurt. Pithla bhari - The worst I have ever had. Pithla was too runny, bhakri was downright stale/unedible. Pomfret fry - Fish skin was burnt, but taste was better than some of the other dishes. Puran poli - It was super thin, barely any puran filling and seemed to have been served after quick heating rather than fresh, the edges were unedible. Saoji chicken curry - Too much garam masala Triple Schezwan fried rice - This was the best dish among all those we ordered. It was served with manchurian gravy. A humble request to the restaurant management - please serve edible, authentic Maharashtrian dishes or remove them from the menu rather than misleading people.

Nothing stood out to me as amazingly delicious like some other Indian cuisine around Austin. The surmai fry had a piece of plastic on the plate (no it was not a bone). Ran out of the jhunka bakri so I ordered a kothimbir wadi which they had forgot. They also forgot my mango lassi. The buffet was not served during the time I was there but it seemed like just a small selection in the corner of the restaurant. I'm happy that a place like this is in Austin, but the service was so lackluster and the food was mediocre so I couldn't imagine myself going back.

It was a little intimidating but mostly exciting. The vibe here was mostly straight business. Waiters standing around like in a military stance, legs shoulder width apart, hands behind their backs waiting for any signs from their tables needing anything. I will keep it 100 and say that our waiter wasn't exactly warm and inviting but they were attentive. The atmosphere is decorated ornately and kinda made me feel like an emperor of sorts, or at least some random squire in the court. We ordered an absolute feast ranging from chicken tikka masala, to garlic naan, rice, samosas, a fresh mango yogurt drink and some flavored tea. Everything was delicious and jam packed with spices. This was one of the few restaurant experiences I've had in the past couple years where I gorged beyond my usual limit bc it was THAT good. My one minor complaint is the chicken tikka masala was more sauce than actual chicken which I found somewhat annoying but I quickly forgave them. The bill came soon after I requested it and the price was fair considering the quality of food we got was top notch. This place has got it going on like a fine lady from Beverly Hills but as you'd expect some attitude from a gorgeous lass that knows she's got it going on, the same can be said for a great restaurant. Ignore the 'tude and come enjoy the grub, it's worth it.

Please remember they make their dishes per order and this takes time. A good curry or biryani is not made in 15 minutes. We ordered several dishes. For the main dishes we had the hydrabadi chicken biryani, aloo chole, and my child had the keema child's biryani. We also had the mint cilantro chutney and it reminds me of homemade chutney. All were very flavorful and very fresh. My aloo was served with a good portion of rice. All the portions were large. We ate here on Sunday and we still have leftover biryani and I'm finishing my aloo. One thing we noticed that was odd compared to where I usually visit was the server. It was a bit warm, but the server heard our comments and went and moved a big fan they had out to combat how warm it was. I highly recommend trying them out!
