Amazing people! I LOVE going in to get high quality, fresh feed for my snake. Only thing that I will say is that the A/C is either broken or it's run very, very low. It makes me worry for the animals, but I can tell that they do their best they can to take care of the animals while living in one of the hottest cities in the U.S. Overall, AMAZING people! I was really disappointed by the way the small animals are housed here. They are kept in tiled cages with no visibility so they can't see out of their enclosures or have much opportunity for visual stimulation. I seriously hope this store considers improving these enclosures and providing the small animals with more appropriate enriching housing. They deserve better. read more

I feel terrible leaving a poor review, as supporting local businesses has always been super important to me, but this needed to be said. This store unfortunately does not provide proper care for their animals. All of the bird enclosures are empty. No toys, no chews, just food and water. Birds out of all animals NEED enrichment. The rodent/ hamster enclosures were all overstocked and they had little to no bedding and enrichment. As a pet owner who has birds, rodents, and reptiles/fish, this really made my heart ache. I will say, the employees were kind and the reptile/fish enclosures looked decent. I don't want to see the business fail, and I really do feel bad leaving such a review, but people need to be educated. First time pet owners won't know how to properly care for their animal since they were never cared for correctly from the get go. If you are considering a pet (with proper care!!!) I highly recommend Paradise parrot and Ever evolving exotics. They truly care and prioritize their animals first. They are a wealth of knowledge!! They are absolutly amazing. I went in when I first thought about a snake and just wanted to look they employees helped me by answering all my questions and really engaging me. Most stores just try to sell you but here they light up with excitment to explain everything about their animals. They are absloutly amazing I am so glad I went back yesterday. I finally found my baby yoshi she is an albino spotnose who is doing amazing. I love her and I want to thank tropical exotics for answering all my questions and helping me throughtout the whole process. She went right to sleep in her new basket when we got home then lastnight she was exploring her new home and this morning she found the buried hide and is sleeping. This pet store is hidden in a small plaza north of fort Lowell. We found this place as we shopped at Safeway and this store has everything we need. We need mealworms fresh and dried for our pet rodents and they have all. They also have cute hamsters and rats for pets. Highly suggest coming. read more

Main thing people say about it is the smell but when i went today the smel l has went down so much from the last time ive been there which is about 6mths now . I have been by this place hundreds of times and my said you want to look at some fish so we stopped in. The first thing that gets you is the smell. Definitely a pet store! We found the place to be very dirty, most of the fish tanks were so dirty you could not see the fish. The store arrangement was very hap-hazard with things everywhere. This store has become one of my favorite places to visit. After recently becoming very interested in reptiles I started visiting the store more and more frequently. On my first visit I knew nothing about snakes, though I had a great desire to own one when I was ready. An extremely helpful employee let me hold one and taught me so much about their care! After doing A LOT of my own research I finally decided that owning a snake was right for me, and I regularly check back in looking for the right one for me. On employee in particular, Tommy, was so kind. He was not only willing to help educate me on these incredible animals, but to share his own love and pictures of his pets. The employees here are so much more than paid workers.. they love these animals and do their best to care for them until they find forever homes. This is above all an exotic pet store.. not a place to come and buy your Pomeranian new outfits... a lot of these other reviews seem like they are from disgruntled and rude people. I have never had even close to a bad experience in this business. And Tommy, I swear I'm coming back for the axanthic ball python baby! I also have come in with my young nieces and wow are these employees so kind and compassionate. They always teach them more about the animal they're interacting with and I'm so grateful this business exists in our city. read more

I was here today Saturday 2:45 pm. I picked up my usual food for my reptiles and then my wife and daughter wanted to see the parrots. As usual the parrots wanted to grab us because they see us regularly. We r very familiar with the rules but can't really do much about the rules when the birds grab u or fly on your head. Today it was they grabbed my wife by the hand and this girl decided it was beyond important to make sure we didn't touch them at all. This girl has always given me issues she stares at me sideways all the time. To her I'm a bum or a dirty ugly bum idk & idc but to show us the stickers that say don't touch the birds and continue to show us the sign as if we t stuiped is beyond insulting. We shop there on a regular basis and this isn't the 1st time with this girl she's probably about 110lbs Burnett hair wears glasses and is about 5ft 3inchs she's arrogant nasty and smug. The last time I delt with her was because we bought a baby bearded dragon and not even 48 hrs later he had a bacterial infection in the mouth.i had gone back and asked her questions and the only response I got out of her was I can't help u because we don't want to be sued and I said for what for giving medical advice. I said it's an animal and I'm asking u because I bought him here not even 48hrs ago. Sorry but I can't answer any more of your questions. This girl needs to find a better job. Her attitude sucks. She's horrible around children and dosent deserve to be around these animals especially if that's her opinion when being asked how to treat a sick animal u bought from there inventory. Iv had birds almost my entire life and for this little girl to approach me like I can't read is outrageous. Can't really do anything if the parrots grab u through there cage. Obviously she didn't see that even when we told her she showed no interest in what we were telling her. Plz get rid of this girl she's costing u money and customers. I went to TK because they have feeder guppies for the turtle we have. I waited with a gentleman who was getting 6 bags of fish, 10 of these and 10 of those, a couple of these etc. I had no problem waiting the 30 minutes, while I was, I was looking at the different fish and plants, the fish area was also filling up. The girl back there was the ONLY one in the store working, there were several other employees hanging out up front. She helped the guy carry his bags to the front with the promise that she would be right back. She didn't return but was instead caught by another customer in fish and was answering his questions. Another employee was walking by and I asked him if another employee could help in fish- to which he responded that he was only there to check if he could release a quarantined fish. I told him that the girl was great and helpful, but she never made it back after helping a customer. - He argued with me and told me that she was getting him not helping someone else. I pointed at her and said -no literally she is right there helping someone else. He looked over but continued his thing. A few moments later an older man- 80 ish came over and asked if I needed help- Great! I said I needed feeder guppies and he yelled at me that there were no guppies there!- Now I can see the guppies, about 40 of them swimming around. -I tell him they are there, just on the bottom, he looks closer, steps next to the tank and says -yes there are a few. He awkwardly counts out ten and puts them in a bag- but is unable to catch air in the bag and tries to add air to no avail. He rubber-banded it and gave me a sad limpy bag o' fish. I have never been yelled at when trying to purchase something, WOW- I also get that they were busy, and waiting was going to happen- but why if you have employees standing around doing NOTHING! I have also read other reviews and have read the owner yelling at people on here when he doesn't like what they say. Unfortunately that will most likely be my fate, but you have to do better and be nicer if you want a better review. I hope that someday I can give a better review, because this store is a happy memory from my youth. read more

Please read. As I first walked into this store it immediately smelled horrible, however I didn't think much of it because it's a pet store and pets can smell occasionally. Continuing to proceed I noticed the biggest problem of this store: the neglect of animals and the cleanliness. Let's start with the birds. The birds looked horrible. The African Grey was plucking its feathers and its feet where covered in feces. When a parrot plucks it's feathers it is normal due to high levels of anxiety. They had an electus that looked so unhealthy, the poor thing had extremely crusty feathers and looked disgusting. Parakeets and lovebirds where all cultured together in small, poop covered, cages. The cages where DISGUSTING and covered in poop and had no toys, barely any food, and barely any water. The floors in the bird area are covered in poop. The cages they are selling for sale are also covered in poop. A cockatoo they had looked very sad, it had crust all over its eyes and wings. Poor babies. Fish/Reptiles The water for the fish and turtles looked dirty, it looked like it hadn't been changed in years. Surprisingly the reptiles had the nicest cages in the store. However, still a poor cleaning job of the tanks. Lots of dead fish. Hamsters/Bunnies/Guinea Pig The hamsters where in 5 gallon tanks with nothing but shavings and water, they where all cluttered in a pile, none of them having any space to roam. As for there bunnies and guinea pigs, they where all in this small area, laying together covered in their own feces, there was nothing but shavings and feces. As for my final comment I'm very dissapointed for the care of the animals and the cleanliness from this store. My advice is to clean the area more and have better animal care, the cleaner the area the more customers, the better the animal care, the more customers. I go here often unfortunately because it's on of the only places to go. But I bought an adult beaded dragon here a year ago and after I took him home you could tell he was not well. I took him to the vet and turns out he had a nasty sinus infection causing breathing problems and he didn't want to eat anything. After spending $200 to take him home and over $500 in vet bills, he is much happier living with me than in their half a** enclosures. read more

I will NEVER support this store again. My sister and I stopped by Tropical Kingdom today to look at birds and fish. As is usual with any store I have ever been to, there were some dead fish in tanks here and there. I understand it happens, but some looked quite decayed. Birds are (as someone that owns and breeds birds) overpriced but more importantly highly stressed and several have signs of feather plucking. Some birds in cages are being boarded and are not for sale--but kids are sticking their hands in and touching them--seems like they would keep boarders separate and away from customers. But as we were walking past a prominently displayed tortoise tank, we saw two baby tortoises had tipped over. One was on land. One was in his water dish. His head was submerged in water, and he could barely lift it--he would gasp for air, then his head would fall back in. Clearly, he was in trouble! My sister walked up to the main register where SEVERAL employees were sitting, talking, etc. She said there were two tipped over tortoises and an employee said "it happens all the time." My sister immediately said, "But one is in the water and can barely breathe." Rather than do the RIGHT thing and come over to see, the employee said "he'll figure it out." None of the three people at the front even got up to come and check. NOTHING. In a panic, my sister went to find another employee somewhere else while I tried to figure out how to get into the cage. Luckily, another young woman and her boyfriend walked by and also panicked. I told them no one was coming to help and that my sister went to find the employee that had been in the bird area. The couple managed to lift the top of the enclosure and flipped both tortoises back over--removing the one from the water. The one in the water was clearly tired and almost flattened out on the land, all limbs hanging out. I hope he doesn't die. TERRIBLE animal care. The employees at the front counter were not busy. They were just talking and one should have come to help. Several customers saw a problem, brought it to attention of the staff, and were ignored! This tortoise clearly was going to drown without help. Also, apparently no one noticed three people opening a tank up in the middle of the store. But this tortoise needed to be saved--and the employees here don't care enough to get off their butts to come and even look. I am SHOCKED that this kind of laziness exists at a pet store, and that "it happens all the time" is an acceptable response to an animal in dire need. I like to support local businesses. But I will NEVER support a local business that is run like this, even though in the past I have forgiven the "smells" because animals in one area do leave odors. But this incident is UNACCEPTABLE. Go elsewhere where the staff/owners care about their animals. Find a local breeder if you can. But please don't support a place that can't even send an employee to look at a drowning animal. I came here with a friend to help her purchase some supplies for her son's aquarium. We found a great selection of products here to purchase, and my friend was very pleased to find such helpful service as well as reasonable prices. As for myself, I had been here several times before in the past, and have always liked coming here. The owner, an older gentleman, was a bit gruff, but we got along well. He liked me for some reason. I hope he's still around, as it had been almost 10 years since I made my way in here. In addition to that, this location has engaged in a lot of community service, including hosting biology classes for marine biology classes. They really know their stuff here, so I highly recommend giving this place a visit for all your aquarium needs. Keep up the good work guys! read more

I highly recommend this place. I shop here regularly to buy crickets and worms for my bearded dragons and kibble for our hedgehog (which we got from Tropical Kingdom). The staff is always super friendly and helpful and are easy to talk to. A couple of the guys have gone above and beyond for us with help selecting a tank, ect. Plus, it's always fun walking around and checking out their cool selection. The biggest issue people seem to have is the smell. Frankly, when you get that many types of animals in one building, it's bound to have a certain fragrance. But the staff genuinely care for and know a lot about the animals they sell. Tropical Kingdom - Our hedgehog, Hickory, that we got from Trop Kingdom! - Pet Stores Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

I went in here for my first time yesterday, and I have very mixed feelings about the place. As a pet store, I understand it is their responsibility to sell pets and not store them, but I felt there were many with inadequate housing sizes- which was kind of depressing to watch. The thing that I was more so concerned about was their hedgehog prices/enclosures. The first thing I noticed is that a 1 year old hedgehog was going for $250- which is the going rate for an infant hedgie from a breeder. It appeared that they were using cedar or pine bedding for their hedgehogs- which is highly recommended against for these types of animals as it can cause micro lesions in their feet and irritation to their skin/eyes. They also did not have any enrichment or wheels in their enclosures- which can lead to very acute stress in hedgehogs. As a longtime avid owner of hedgehogs, I really hope this changes! If you guys have any questions or need any advice, please let me know. I just want these babies to be safe and happy. read more

Horrible place don't get your animal or support them in any way. They had given me a baby bunny in which they told me she had a recent bite on her face. When I was checking out the cashier had asked if she was snake food i continued to say no and she was a pet then continued to say "call it what you want it." I understood that and took her home anyways as the worker told me the swelling would go down. I took her to the vet on Saturday 4/13 because she woke up severely worse and weak. The vet had snipped off the HUGE amount of puss and infectious tissue to see that she had a tissue infection from a bite a long time ago that was never treated and one on her back as well. I took my $200 vet bill and went home now treating her with 24 hour care I wake up every morning having to heat compress her face and back for 10 minutes to get the swelling down I then have to take a syringe and clean her wounds with iodine and water to kill the virus and after that have to stick a Q-Tip in her Poor wound with anti bacterial cream then continue by giving her her medicine and food and water through a syringe because she is so sick and weak she can't eat or drink herself. I then have to take my finger to her RAW eye and add cream to it because her eye gets so dogged over with puss. She is 6 WEEKS OLD and is fighting for HER LIFE this virus so hard. Tropical Kingdom as I was checking out said if she dies in 72 hours to bring her body back and they will give me a new bunny how ridiculous!!! I am now with a sick baby bunny fighting for her life basically on 24 hour care because they neglected the bite in the first place and a $200 vet bill. I called Tropical Kingdom and they refused to pay for a QUARTER of her vet bill and told me that they shouldn't even have given me a refund on the bunny without taking her back but I know if I give her back they will leave her to die because they don't care about there animals all they care about us the money!! SHE HAS A HOLE IN HER FACE and they basically told me to screw off! Do NOT support them in any way and they will be hearing from me through the Department if Agriculture for neglect and animal abuse !! hope your happy with your damn money you pigs! read more

Concerned customers should be aware that the owners and most of their employees do not wear masks. I have always chosen Tropical Kingdom over the box stores, given them my business for many, many years as it is a fine store. But because of their ignorance of the seriousness of the pandemic, I will no longer be able to do so. I spoke over the phone with one of the owners, John, the day after my recent visit. He started out claiming he couldn't wear a mask because of a medical condition, but then followed that by basically stating that the pandemic is a hoax (there you go.) Apparently it doesn't matter to him that some of his customers have good reason to take the Coronavirus seriously. Some of us are at high risk, or have family members who are at high risk and are likely to DIE if infected. It's a shame that he's willing to lose those customers just to make an ignorant political statement and selfishly choose to ignore the mask mandate. read more

I have gone here a few times in the past. The first few times where when we had purchased a ferret from them. They where very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The past few times I have come here are just to buy some fish for our new tank. I wish they had papers or info on what kind of fish they are so we could make a better decision. All they have are the names of the fish on the tank itself. Today we got 3 angle fish. They are still doing well in the tank. My one complaint is that the place is a little dirty to be honest. It really could use a deep cleaning!! They do have everything from fish to parrots, crickets to mice. If you have questions they are normally willing to help you pretty extensively. If you are looking for a locally owned shop and not petsmart or Petco, this is a decent place to start. read more

Came in for a fuzzy, got a fuzzy and that was all good, and spent a while looking around bc there are so many neat animals... But sooo many of the reptiles had mites. And not just a few mites but a LOT. My brother recently acquired a ball python and left it with mites for abt 3 weeks, and the ones at the store looked pretty damn similar. (Ive taken over his snakes care n got rid of them in a week hoorahhh) And I can understand an outbreak since they're so easy to spread but there really shouldn't be that many on the poor things. I know pet stores are small and not usually the ideal long term living space for pets but there are a bunch of little things that irk me in there... Not the worst pet store but also maybe not the most ethical. I do really like the bags of (I think its pecan or walnut??) "Sand" u can buy though, its a nice replacement for actual sand/etc. and its digestible. read more
