Hands down the best Acai bowl in the island! it is a little hard to find. the store is located on the first floor of Discovery Bay. the first floor is actually below street level. there is an easy access from the street. just go down the stairway located in front of Discovery Bay and TT store will be the first thing you will see. if come from the parking garage, take the elevator to the first floor and walk left until the end of the isle. I am originally from Brazil where the Acai bowls are from and Tropical Tribe is the only place I found on the island to serve the authentic Acai. They mix pure high quality Acai with Guarana juice another berry from Brazil. there are good Acai bowls on the island, but if you want Authentic you gotta go to TT. Honestly Tropical Tribe has the best Açaí on the island. If you want real Brazilian Açaí this is where you need to go, but make sure to order the Tropical bowl with the Tropical Toppings. Any review that claims or says "it's bland/doesn't have much taste/I like Jamba Juice better" must be expecting a bowl of sugary sorbet. The workers are always friendly, consistently in a good mood/give great service, and care about regulars who come in. I had the pleasure of trying out this new food truck located across the street from the Pan Building - in the lot for Jazz Minds - today. I am a big huge fan of Acai.. but I always find that the Acai bowls are always "cut" with something else- apple juice, pear juice, and or soy milk. This leaves you with a big helping but not the pure taste of acai. Not here.. no no my friends this is 100% pure unfiltered unadulterated acai. The taste is so wonderful and refreshing and authentic.. The color is a deep strong purple that appeals to my eyes. It is cold, it is good. It is almost like having an acai sherbert with fruit sprinkled on top. I also want to say something about the fruit options - banana, blueberry? and strawberries. All fresh. Another thing i liked - granola on the bottom of the bowl and on top. I always thought it would be nice if acai bowls were made this way and here they come standard. The owner is from Brazil (the home of the acai bowl) and explained to me that this is the authentic way to make the bowl - with no fillers. They use two packets of acai per bowl. I looked through the menu he offered and was pleasantly surprised at the inclusion of Yerba Matte in his smoothie selection. Though I didn't get to try it, I know of the wonderful uplifting power of mate. It seems like a great idea to mix acai and matte for a refreshing smoothie full of antioxidants and energy. This is the only location I have ever seen such an offering and hope it will be pleasing. That will be my next item to try. If you haven't tried Mate I recommend giving it a try as it packs a nice caffeinated punch but no jitters ( at least for me). In conclusion- I use to be a Jewel or Juice only kind of guy... this place may have just edged it out. In the end it is the pure acai that makes me rave. The owner is a pleasant guy who greets you with a smile and aloha. I love discovering new little places near my house. I've been reading a lot about Tropical Tribe lately and decided to go check it out for lunch the other day. I was stoked to see that there was a 20% discount when checking in on Yelp so I went with the Tropical Tribe bowl which came with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, honey, and granola. It's usually $8 for a small bowl, with the discount and a small tip it came out to $7 even. Like other yelpers have mentioned the acai is really good. It has this creaminess to it that I haven't really tasted anywhere else and its definitely not watered down with anything. The small was enough for me but if you are really hungry or an acai fanatic you might want to go with the large. They had a nice little seating area outside of the truck which was great cause I didn't really want to walk and eat. I've been addicted to acai bowls lately. It's supposed to be a healthy alternative to dessert since you get acai and fruits. Plus, who wouldn't love something cool and sweet on a hot day? I was lured to this place because I read that they use pure acai without blending it with apple juice or soy milk. I ordered the Tropical Tribe Bowl which was $8. It has blueberries, bananas, strawberries, honey, and granola: the usual. First thing I noticed is the dark color of the acai. It also looks more solid and creamier than other places. On the first bite, the flavor of this acai was surely different. To me, it was more of a subtle acai taste. But when paired with the succulent drizzle of honey and fruits, there's a certain harmony going on here! It was a very refreshing treat. I wouldn't say this was the best neighborhood since there's an adult store right next to it and the lot is shared by EcoCabs. I also smelled pee... But all that wasn't important when I'm enjoying my acai bowl. Plus, this is a great post-workout treat for those working out at 24 Hour Fitness across the street. My daughter turned me on to acaii bowls in Hawaii Kai when she joined my husband and me in Hawaii this February. After she left I was craving one and looked on Yelp for a good place to get one. Tropical Tribe in the Discovery Bay Center was rated #1. It was walking distance from our condo. We did have a little trouble finding it because there is no signage at the steps, just a sign for a nail salon. You need to go down one level from the street. Tropical Tribe is a small place without seating inside. There are a few tables outside the restaurant where you can enjoy your acaii bowl or other items on the menu. You order at the counter and when it is ready they call your name. Service is very friendly and helpful if you have questions. Great new location located directly under Mcdonalds! Can be a bit tricky to find, but every minute you spend searching is worth it! Made fresh to order and topped with strawberries, blueberries, banana, honey, and granola, this bowl of acai is a beauty for breakfast! They also have smoothies, which I have yet to try, but the acai comes out perfect every time. They're currently working on a loyalty card program at this location, which may come in handy because surely you will be hooked! WHOA. I finally had the time and was in the area, so I decided to use my expired Groupon (even if Groupons are expired, you can still use it for the amount you actually paid). I got the Tropical Tribe bowl and it was DELISH. OMFG--life changing. I'm so sorry, Jewel or Juice, but Tropical Tribe has won me over. The advertise this bowl as "authentic," and made "just like in Brazil" with the Acai and Guarana berries. However, I cannot believe it is a blend of just those 2 berries because it is beyond delicious and SWEET. Not tart at all, like some acai bowls I've had. As I devoured the bowl, I couldn't stop telling myself, "this tastes WAY TOO GOOD to be healthy." I enjoyed the banana, strawberry, blueberry, granola, and honey toppings, however, the star of the bowl was definitely the acai. I love the granola at Jewel or Juice and I love the honey at Diamond Head Cove Bar. But actually loving the acai is something new to me. I could have probably ate it without any toppings. FYI, I ordered this to-go and did not eat it until about an hour later. It was pretty runny and the granola was kind of soggy as that point, but still better than any other acai bowl I've previously had. Location is strange and parking is located in stalls directly behind the truck. There are 2 wooden round tables with a couple chairs each. HANDS DOWN the BEST acai bowl on the island! The owner, a Brazilian guy, boasts his use of unique and authentic Brazilian acai. This is compared to the Sambazon acai frozen smoothie packets that are used as the base of most other acai bowls found on Oahu. In fact, you can buy those mass-distributed Sambazon acai packets at Costco. But, Tropical Tribe uses acai that is not from Sambazon. Rather, it is imported from Brazil by the owner of Tropical Tribe, I believe. I've been a long-time customer of Tropical Tribe and have seen how successful their business has become over the past three years. They started out as a food truck in a small parking lot on Kapiolani Blvd. In a short time, they have grown out of that food truck and moved to a permanent location under McDonald's, at the bottom floor of the Discovery Bay building located at the edge of Waikiki. I've probably tried more than 20 types of acai bowls from many restaurants since 2006 (most of them being from Hawaii or California), which is when my love for them first began. I've heard Brazilians rave about this place. I've heard for some, it's the ONLY place they are willing to go for acai because it's just like the kine they can get at home. My experience with acai is very limited--like to jamba and jewel or juice, both of which are totally yummers to me. This is how açaí bowls should be done! This place is tucked into the downstairs area next to a McDonald's. They have a limited menu of just açaí bowls, smoothies, and pao de queijo (cheese bread snack). They have two types of açaí bowls: Hawaiian or tropical. I've had both and though both are good, I'd recommend the tropical. It's different and less sweet than your average bowl. You can pick your toppings including at minimum banana, granola and lovely raw honey (which that alone would bring me here). However, the tropical topping choice is hands down the best option which adds strawberries, blueberries, and your choice of coconut or bee pollen. Delicious! read more
