Had to check it out since seeing a message about where to get the best Acai bowl. It was good. There is some of the real fruit in the frozen mixture. I think they would get more business if they changed the name on the truck. I've seen the truck before and had no idea what a Tropical Tribe was. Everyone who has had an Acai bowl, knows what it is. Tropical Tribe is hands down the greatest 'hidden gem' that we've discovered in the last couple years. My girlfriend originally found them through a Groupon deal when they were still a food truck on Kapiolani blvd. They are now located in the little shopping plaza connected to Discovery Bay towers, just down the stairs from McDonalds. The Tropical Tribe bowl with Tropical toppings is the best Acai bowl I've ever had. The Acai is unlike any I've ever tried before. It doesn't taste as artificial or sugary or diluted as other Acai bowl I've had in Hawaii. Their ingredients are always fresh. They have different options for toppings for the bowls but I always stick with the tropical toppings, which includes bee pollen and the raw organic honey. My girlfriend and I are sort of regulars now, we go whenever we have an excuse to be in the area. We've also tried their smoothies which are amazing too, and more recently their Pizzas. We've tried the Portuguesa and Atum pizzas, both of which were incredibly unique and tasty. Everything that comes out of this place is so fresh and original, and we've never found anything in Hawaii quite like it before. With all the wonderful reviews I was very disappointed to have a totally different experience. The granola was stale and something tasted bitter in my açaí bowl. Also the metal grated chairs they have for seating are horrible, especially if u have shorts on, who Doesn't in Hawaii. This is a great place for Acai Bowls. The owner is younger and very passionate, I met him last time I was there and explained why their bowls are different. After reading a couple of Tropical Tribe advertorials in the newspaper with statements like "authentic, Brazilian acai experience" and "purest blend", and TT's acai touted as higher (than its competitors) in quality, and Yelp-ers claiming dis, dat and dee oddah ting as the best for acai; I just had to see for myself what all the hub-bub was about at TT. TT's truck is located in a parking lot on Kapiolani Boulevard across from 24 Hour Fitness. "Yannica" assured me that parking was free as long as you buy something from TT or the neighboring taco truck. Reportedly, January 31 is the last day at this location as a better location is being sought, and a store front location contemplated. Had TT's "Classic Tribe Bowl"---a blend of acai and guarana topped with banana slices, granola, and honey. For a 24-oz. plastic container $8.50. Even without the honey, sweet. So this is the "purest blend"? Good, but I've come to like my acai blend to taste sweet-sour. Maybe not pure, but mo' bettah fo' me. I'm feeling a little amped now, as guarana contains caffeine. Reportedly, twice the amount in coffee beans. Increased memory, alertness, and mood? Not yet. Note: because take-out order served in clear plastic container, the kind you get when you buy poke, your order will melt more quickly than if served in a styrofoam container (ala Jewel or Juice). Neither type of container environment-friendly, though. Conclusion: A-OK. I still prefer J or J's regular acai bowl---24 oz. of acai blend with banana and granola for $6.80. read more

I've been there twice now and tried two different bowls. The acai bowl was much different than the first acai bowl I had up in North Shore - it was not sweet at all, made with just acai and guarana juice. I had the extra toppings with the shaved unsweetened coconut. For me, it would have benefitted from more honey. The second time I tried the Hawaiian bowl which is acai blended with "tropical fruits" that are not named. I enjoyed this bowl more! The regular bowl is not very big, so I definitely wouldn't recommend the smallest size. It's warm inside the shop during the heat of the day so I recommend eating outdoors if there is a breeze. read more

I was pretty stoked to find out an authentic Acai bowl shop was opening up in Discovery Bay Center. I really enjoy Lanikai Juice in Kailua, but since I moved to Waikiki and I walk to work, they're kind of hard to get to. So now I can get an Acai bowl anytime I want, just the way I like it, with WHOLE bee pollen and not the powder stuff. The down side, their honey isn't certified organic but it is local from Hawaii. They just opened recently so the line is never too long but I do wish them well and I won't ever have a problem waiting in their line when it does grow. Unwavering quality! The best Acai, hands down, that I've ever had! I got to try my first bowl a year and a half ago. What I noticed since then is Andre has never compromised his quality. In fact, a few months ago, he found a better grade of Acai and went through the hard work and expense to fly to get the supplier setup! As co-founder of Spartan Race Hawaii, I invited Andre out at a nominal vendor fee to my 6,500-person race, because his Acai is just that good and I wanted my people to enjoy it!! I love tasting Acai all over Island. This morning I tried another bowl near Diamond Head just to see. ...I'll still be going back to Ala Moana to get my fix at Andre's place later:) The only thing that sucks is, they're not open on Mondays..
