This place just amazes me. I mean the big giant shark head as you walk in, at Big Bear? Unheard of. This was our first time trying this poke joint. And honestly, getting a poke bowl at Big Bear woul not be my first choice of dinner, but this might be our go to place from now on! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The kids love it, adults love it, food is great, vibe is A+, plenty of tables, and all the staff we've encountered are very nice, friendly, and helpful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our party had little ones that needs stroller and high chair and this place is definitely accessible and accommodating for all ages. They were even kind enough to notify us to go ahead and grab a dining table with our stroller as you have to place the order via a self serve tablet. They also serve alcoholic beverages! Basically after you order, they'll call your name with a Hawaiian groovy twist to it, and you grab your own utensils, napkins, and water on a separate area. And then off to enjoy your food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have 3 different dining areas, out on the patio, inside dining with varying table sizes, chairs, and booth, and a backyard with a nice enclosed grassy area with standing tables only.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Again, the vibes here are really great! So detailed and unique![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So the food, we ordered the Cuba and the Krakatoa, both have white rice with tuna but different mixture of sauces. Both bowls were delicious and tuna was cut into little cubes and are fresh! We ordered the grilled teriyaki rice for the kids that came with a mayo dipping sauce and pickled pineapple with a bit of a kick. The teriyaki sauce and chicken was well cooked and the taste were delicious! Our kids devoured their plates. This was definitely a great spot for poke when you're in the Big Bear area! We will be back and eat some more yummy poke bowls.
I do think it's easy for me to compare this poke to others that I've had. While it is good, is it the best? I just don't think so. I would recommend it being a try when you're in the area, but don't set your sights on it being the best poke you've ever had!
Tropicali prides itself as the top-ranked restaurant in California per Yelp, so I had to give it my assessment. Also, they present their laurels of achieving top status among all poke restaurants in the United States per Yelp. That naturally prompted me to compare their poke to others I had elsewhere. I got the pele bowl: ahi tuna topped with cucumbers, sweet onions, and a spicy sauce over rice. The poke was delicious and had a nice texture with just the right degree of chewiness. Each tuna piece tasted refreshing with the lightly spicy sauce. The bowl probably could've had a larger portion size for the price, but it was still solid. Due to the restaurant's popularity, Tropicali maintains an almost perfect rating with its thousands of reviews, but I still feel that I've had better poke in Oahu. Customer service was great. One staff member was enthusiastic and friendly; he showed us that we could order drinks online while we wait in line for food. When your orders are ready, someone using the restaurant's sound system affectionately announces that your food has "washed ashore." I also saw staff members having fun conversations with other customers, so I was glad with the overall friendliness. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant ambience is highly decorative with a Pacific Islander theme. A shark's mouth acts as a provocative entrance to the restaurant, but the atmosphere is laid back and fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bustling with customers, it's a nice place to eat with friends and family.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, in my experience, the restaurant lacked in cleanliness. Our table had a view of Big Bear Lake. However, we saw a few ants on the table along with small bugs by the windows. It seemed that they should have more frequent cycles of cleaning as many people visit here to eat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, it did look like one staff member had a towel to wipe tables after we had left.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, I'm surprised that the Yelp community's favorite poke restaurant lies in Big Bear Lake. It's not convenient to arrive here, so I ponder why and how the restaurant has thousands of high reviews. Nonetheless, I can say that Tropicali serves the best poke I've ever had in Southern California. However, I was sadly surprised that our tables weren't the cleanest. In good faith, I cannot write this restaurant the five-star review so many others have given.
Tropicali was such a great experience! I loved that you can self-order, which made everything quick and easy, and the bartender was absolutely amazing--super friendly and welcoming. I'm usually not a poke person, but I ordered the teriyaki chicken and it was absolute perfection. The flavor was incredible, and everything tasted fresh. Everyone working there was so kind and made the experience even better. I'll definitely be coming back every time I'm in Big Bear. Highly recommend!
Tropicali in Big Bear, CA This place needs to be studied for not only the incredible food but the service and decor. There's a reason it's the #1 place to eat at in California (if not the USA) I got the Malibu bowl. We shared their desserts with the waffles and they were truly life changing desserts. They have boba balls with them. Both times we arrived, we beat the rush and I wish you the same luck. It's worth every dollar
The line takes a bit of a while but that's not the establishment, it's people not being considerate enough to have their entire party together while ordering so it takes way longer than it should. Other that than, they have great poke bowls that are so fresh! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's also a great environment, funny workers and just fun vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good lake views too, I would definitely recommend going for drinks![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The pele bowl was very tasty and good spice level, even spicer wouldn't be bad. Good spot but because of others it's like a 4.5 for wait times. I will say once I put the order in, it was done quickly on their end.
Quite possibly the coolest restaurant I've ever been to! Tropicali feels like it a wild card to find in Big Bear! It's a Hawaiian restaurant that FULLY commits to the bit. You enter through the mouth of a shark, the entire crew speaks in surfer dude vernacular, and every inch of the place is uniquely decorated and on theme. It's insane! It could totally serve as an art exhibition. There's almost always a bit of a rush here, so wait times can be long, but they encourage you to order a drink while you wait! It's a pretty smart system haha. I got the Tropsicle and the Pele Bowl. The Tropsicle was such a refreshing slush- perfect for the hot summer! It's a swirl of passion fruit, orange, guava, pineapple, and coconut. All the best flavors! The Pele Bowl featured spicy ahi and cucumber over a bed of rice. You have the option to up the spice on this bowl, but beware! It gets hot! Overall, great flavors and super solid poke. A must-visit if you're on the mountain!
The interior was definitely surprising, and not what I expected. It was fun and cute. The entrance was adorable, then you walk in to a whole new world. The food was good, but a little over priced, in my opinion. We ate outside to enjoy the good weather and nice view of the lake. You order on the machine and you wait for your food and drinks to come out. Service was pretty fast. Drinks and food orders are announced separately. Would be nice if it were announced together so you don't have to make two trips. The way they announce your name is cute; it definitely fits the theme. So quirky. I enjoyed it. Pretty easy parking.
First of all, the service is AMAZING here! These guys seriously deserve a raise for making customers feel more than welcomed and truly delivering a laid back Californian-tropical experience. Colin, you rock! Thank you for making our first time here a memorable one! The food is phenomenal! Literally the best poke I have ever had. I had the Cabo bowl and my husband had the Krakatoa bowl. Both were super loaded with ahi tuna, crunch, and lots of flavor. We also had a desert that Colin brought out for us and recommended and I can't remember what it was called but it was so delicious and unique. The decor and structure of this restaurant is part of what makes it a 5 star. As soon as you're walking up you enter through the legendary shark mouth and then immerse yourself is the tropical aromas as soon as you walk inside. There is a mixture of tiki/colorful and ethnic decor everywhere that makes you feel like you're in Hawaii and Mexico at the same time. We sat in the outside patio because we really wanted the beautiful lake view but the the inside is so much cooler! Strongly recommend anyone coming here. It's a guaranteed good time and some of the best food you've ever had!
Do I even have to convince you to stop here, or did the massive shark out front already do that for me? Cuz same. I found Tropicali on a complete whim on the way up to Big Bear, and we were so happy we did -- we ended up coming back every single day we were in town. The staff are absolutely bursting with energy. Walking in felt like talking to one of my own brothers or cousins. They made me, my girlfriend, and even my dog feel instantly welcome, and walked us through the menu and drink options like we were old friends. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Honestly, I'd live in this restaurant if I could -- the decor is off the charts, and the creativity and homey feel are unmatched.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I heard it started out as a tiny shack, and seeing what it's grown into makes total sense once you experience the place for yourself. We ordered a few drinks...definitely should've ordered more food, but everything was delicious. We'll be stopping here every time we're in the city. Ok this place rules and certainly lives up to the hype. Pivoted from another dinner option during my sister's bachelorette weekend, and we were not disappointed! Awesome food with a fair price, super cool atmosphere, and especially kind service made for a great experience. Things to know: AMAZING DRINKS (lol). I recommend getting one while waiting in line. Also, note that this place is a little non traditional- or at least that was the vibe I got. What I mean by that is you order from a kiosk (like McDonalds), and we had a hard time locating the menu (it was a QR code). But in a place that is filled with technology, it was accompanied by exceptional service. The guys working were friendly, fun, and made my sister (bride to be) feel super special! The establishment gives the vibe of SpongeBob, mixed with cool hipster tiki bar. Insane ambiance! A minute for the poke- it was outstanding. Fun flavor combos! Would go again 10/10. Only reason I'm doing 4/5 stars is due to the learning curve for locating the menu, figuring out how to order, and also all the cutlery is single use. Other than that, no notes! It's a must see in Big Bear.
Since my last visit they moved into a new location which is a big upgrade! It's a super fun, quirky (you literally walk in through a shark's mouth), awesome tropical vibe and has way more interior and exterior seating than their old location. When you enter, you order on a touchscreen and then they'll call your name and/or number for your drinks first then your food and you walk up to the counter, get your food and then sit wherever you want - like at In&Out! I highly recommend getting their smoothies since they are DELICIOUS! Think tropical blended drinks but without the alcohol. So refreshing and you can still do the curvy drive up/down the mountain! Their poke bowls aren't as amazing as I remember sadly. They are a little too over the top in terms of strong thick sauces and bold overpowering flavors. Their pulled pork bowl was still yummy though despite all of their rice in all of our 3 bowls being a little undercooked (I prefer the fluffy sticky rice) So 5 stars for ambiance, 5 stars for service, 5 stars for drinks and 3.5 stars for food imho. Too bad I can't give 4.5 stars.

This place got on our radar because of the rave reviews. It did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the drinks were tremendous (they don't short you on the pours), the staff and service was radical. This place is the vibe. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance, the customer service, the drinks, the food, it's all seriously 10/10.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We found this spot on TikTok & it's definitely worth the hype. Don't let the line scare you, it moves quickly and it's right beside the "sand bar" where drinks are delivered, it's entertaining to watch the fire shows and commentary. Loved it read more

Super fun, and festive environment! The owners great each customer with a smile and genuine gratitude. Visiting this restaurant is an experience fron the miniute you walk through the shark's jaws. Food was really tasty. Food is ordered through a tablet...so the line can get long. My only recommendation is that they give those in line a menu or QT code to look at in line so customers are ready to order onve they get to the ordering tablet. read more

This place was special. Will be back here every time I'm in Big Bear. Love the energy of the host (think his name was Eon). It feels like the Tiki Room at Disneyland inside, and you're treated to a spectacular view of Big Bear Lake on the deck. On and the food was delicious. My daughter told me to leave my name as "Birthday Tim" and Eon was gracious enough to offer me a free drink or desert for my birthday. I elected for their recommended rum based fireworks drink and that was also delicious. It was more than just a restaurant, it was literally an experience. read more
Is there a need for another 5 star review for this poke spot? Yes, there is. This is how you do it. Serve great food and make the place great fun. The excellent poke is served as it should be served: over rice. I have nothing against poke spots where you pile on the veggies and sauces. Those places are fun but the poke flavor gets lost in the mix. If you have great poke, season it, and then serve it by itself or over rice. There. Done. The decor of this place is a blast. It is like a mash up of the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland, a church, and a great tiki bar. (Yes, a church: Jesus pops up in a quite a few places here but it is not overbearing.) The tiki drinks are excellent and apparently you can get them with or without booze. The poke bowls are great. Even the bowl with shredded pork and rice was delicious. The only downer--at first--was parking. The lot next to the restaurant is a chaotic madhouse. But there is a designated parking lot just down the street from the restaurant. From that other lot, it is just a short stroll up the wooden steps to the crazy parking lot. Signage could be better for the parking. Frankly, I would skip the main lot and go to the other one. Parking is crazy here because the restaurant is a victim of its own success. It is just very, very popular. Yes, you will wait in line to order your food so be patient. You can go up to the bar and order a drink while you wait in line. You should do this. Ordering is a breeze on the kiosk. The food is ready in a flash. While you are waiting, walk around the entire place. The attention to detail is amazing. There is plenty of inside seating--and the interior design is fantastic--but the outdoor patio seating with the amazing views is harder to snag. The staff is extremely friendly. It's a very good poke place, but very crowded in the weekend. We had a hard time finding parking. All three dishes we ordered were pretty good, the albacore was very fresh, grilled pork is not too dry, even the drinks are pretty ok, just I'm questioning the wait. We waited for more than 30 min but they came out pretty timely. The whole restaurant had a Hawaii/vegas vibe, with a huge shark head at the entrance which was definitely fun. Would come back if I can find parking next time. read more

AMAZING VIBES IN THIS PLACE. Just for that alone, 5 stars! You can tell that the people who work here love what they do and that same energy definitely comes across in their product. A lot of love (and probably money lol) went into curating this place and it pays off every single day. I ordered the Krakatoa Bowl and a tiki drink that I completely forgot the name of. It's a rendition of a piña colada with lilikoi IIRC. My boyfriend got the Rasta Bowl and a shark attack. First of all, this place isn't lying when they say something is spicy, believe it when they say it! All the ingredients are fresh, well made, and they don't skimp on them in every single bowl. My only star deduction is because I found the drinks to be too sweet and the sauces a bit too sweet/salty as well but that could be entirely personal to me. I did water my drink down halfway to make it less cloying. Seating was plenty to go around on a Sunday afternoon but I can see how this place can fill up during busy weekends. Amazing food, atmosphere, and service! Visited Tropicali for the first time in Big Bear and was overwhelmed by the menu options. The best waiter ever took the time to explain all the bowls to me, and helped me decide what I was in the mood for. I went with the Paniolo bowl with barbacoa and enjoyed it so much, that I returned the next day with a friend to try the Pele spicy tuna poke bowl! The Tropicali Gangster (POG) drink was a slushee consistency, rather than the juice I was expecting. read more
Tropicali is a true 5 star poke place, and after their move to the new location in December 2024, they've managed to improve on a nearly perfect experience. The views of the lake and the mountain from their new patio add to the dining experience. They have a private lot, although it seems small for how popular the restaurant is. You enter through the shark head and on your left side is the pickup location for drinks followed by the pickup for food. They have ropes to mark the line and they have three screens to place your orders from. I'd recommend looking the menu up ahead of time since there's pretty much always a line and they have an extensive food and drink menu to choose from. The staff are amazing. They are friendly and funny and constantly looking to go above and beyond to both provide the tropical atmosphere and to make sure everyone is having a great experience. They manage to bring boundless amounts of energy every hour of everyday. The poke has been refined into some truly great options. The fish is fresh and delicious and the options are slightly different from your standard poke bar selection. The staff is more than happy to guide your food selection depending on how sweet/spicy you are looking for. After trying nearly all the options, this is one of their rare restaurants where it's hard to pick a favorite since each bowl is delicious and it really just depends on what mood you're in. If the food, service, and views aren't enough for you, they also have a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The cold brew is particularly smooth and can beat most restaurants and coffee shops. We visit Tropicali every time we come to big bear and the only decision we have to make is how many times we want to go. read more

One of the best poke and vibe shops in all of so cal! We came in a Saturday around 2:30pm and it was pretty busy at that time which we were surprised by. While we waited in line we got alllllll the vibes from the bartender who was super cool and was literally the definition of vibe king. Just go there and you'll see what I'm mean. Poke was amazing and super fresh! Atmosphere is even better with tropical looking art and statues all around the restaurant. If you sit outside you even have a sick view of big bear lake! 100000% recommend this place!! read more

Loves the vibes of this place and decorations. Food was 8 out 10 for me! Price to food ratio I would say could be better. Wasn't as filling as I would like for a $21 bowl of poke. Wait time was around 15 minutes which was bad at 1pm. They gave us an option to order drinks while we waited. I ordered an orange slush drink for $10 that was good but I wouldn't order again. There was no parking in the main lot. But plenty of parking if you would go to the parking lot below and take the stairs to the restaurant. Overall great place for food and vibes read more

This was the tastiest poke i've ever had. I don't even like tuna, but when I had it in my bowl, it was amazing. All of the ingredients and flavors blended well together, and the sauce was really yummy. The interior was so fun and entertaining to look at while you wait in line for good food. The bartender was funny and nice as well. Definitely recommend going to try this place. read more

To start, I've NEVER seen a 4.9 star Yelp review with 3,00 reviews! - Wow!! The food here is great, and we'll get to that in a minute but I need to talk about how special this place truly is. First of all you can't not see the huge shark, whose mouth you have to walk into to get in. You'll see that from the highway. But from the second you step in the door l, they have created an experience with the decor & design. Quite a few things came from the guy who designed the Tiki Room at Disney parks and was a long time family friend. After our dinner we talked to Kyle for quite a while. He and his cousin Michael (It is Michael's vision) built this place by hand and started with a very small place back in 2017. They have been collecting all the artifacts you'll see inside for a long time and can tell you where everything came from. (The taxidermied bear came from Alaska & was hit by a car, then was mounted in a community park until it closed & Michael acquired it) One detail that lots of people might miss in the display with the bear is the clouds above the bear that has what looks like lightening in the clouds that is synced to the music - brilliant! Down to the Zoltar-like order kiosks. Now for the food: I'm sure when you hear Poki in Big Bear, you will think what everyone else thinks - Big Bear is too far from the ocean to get fresh sashimi. Guess again, Kyle told us that they get fresh, line caught Ahi tuna in every day. (They are originally from San Diego & have a wonderful hookup for their fresh Ahi) We shared the Pele Poki Bowl ($18.95) and the Choloha Smokin Bowl ($17.95). The Pele Poki Bowl was probably the best Poki I've ever had - and we get a lot of it in the South Bay, Los Angeles - this was better! It is spicy sashimi grade ahi tuna served on a bed of rice topped with sweet onions, cucumbers and drizzled with Lava Boss Sauce and it is absolutely ah-mazing! The Choloha Smokin Bowl is all natural sweet light spiced smoked tropicali pork carnitas with 2 scoops of rice topped with onions, cilantro drizzled with Cali Dream Boss Sauce. It was good but I wish it had more sauce because the pork was a little dry - but it was still good. Anyway, our entire time here was a total experience - and if you're in the area, please don't miss it. read more

Came for labor day weekend and it did not disappoint. If you are in town, highly recommend you stop by. Line does get long and the speed of the line is dependent on the customer as there are 3 kiosks in which you order from. So if you know what you want, it goes by quickly. Otherwise it may take a little longer if people are casually browsing menu items for the first time. For food, got the Krakatoa. It's a mix of the Kraken and Pele bowls. I opted for the larger size and spiced it up. Also added jalapeños. Overall, great umami flavor from the sauces and great texture balance with the crispy wonton skins. If I had to make a change to my order, I'd get the sauces on the side and double or triple the amount of jalapeños. I love spice so I was a tad disappointed that spicing it up wasn't enough. They also take out the center veins of the jalapeños which is where the heat is contained so you get the nice texture and flavor of the jalapeños but with muted heat. The setup inside is pretty smart. As you wait in line for the kiosk, the drink bar is located nearby so you can order drinks while you wait in line. As you see other people get drinks, it entices you to get your own. Someone thought ahead! read more
This restaurant is so worth the hype! we arrived at 10:55 and waited about ~30 minutes for our food, if you want to be the first in line, get there at 10:30 am! I got the secret menu bowl, so filling and the perfect fish to rice to topping ratio, the flavor of the fish was immaculate and tasted very fresh. The waffle was a great touch to finish off the meal, the perfect tropical twist for dessert. the entire restaurant is hawaiian/island themed and all the servers play into it! Every time I drive past Tropicali it's packed with a line out the door. I decided to go 10 minutes before opening on a Sunday and there was already a line waiting. With all the great reviews on Yelp I figured it had to be worth it, and it was. As soon as they opened the doors, the employees cheered and greeted everyone walking in which instantly set the vibe. While eating they also came around to check on tables even though it isn't the type of place with servers. The inside is super cute with a lot of decorations that highlight Hawaiian culture. The only downside was that we sat inside and there was a really strong incense smell or something similar. I have a sensitive nose so it was a little distracting. Crack-A-Toa (secret menu bowl): 5/5 The ahi tuna was really fresh with hardly any fishy taste. The sauce had a slight kick that kept building but never went over the top. They also have an option for extra spicy if that's your thing. The protein portion impressed me the most. Every bite had tuna, rice, and toppings which made the bowl feel balanced and filling. It came with wonton strips, cucumbers, sesame seeds, and cilantro. I do wish there were a few more toppings but honestly it was still amazing. This is something I'd highly recommend. Island Style Cold Brew: 3.5/5 The cold brew itself was solid and you get a slight coconut flavor, but overall it tasted more like a regular cold brew. Tropicali gets it. You don't need a bowl with 47 toppings that looks like it came out of a Build-A-Bear workshop for food. I got the Pele Bowl and the Kraken extra spicy, simple, bold, and a flavor punch that makes you question why anyone needs kale chips and chia sprinkles on top of fish in the first place. The place itself is like a tropical museum--you'll find yourself distracted by the walls before the food even comes. And yes, it's busy. But busy in the worth it way, not the why am I standing in line at DMV. I was seriously considering round two, but the line was still stretching out like it was holding auditions for a new Survivor season, Big Bear Edition. First time here, already planning my next. Less is more, unless we're talking about their spice levels--then more is exactly right. read more
I haven't been in a while and the place is bigger now! They also have kiosks for people to order at. When I'd go in the past, sometimes the line gets quite long, but with the kiosks it goes by faster. I went in early August and it was pretty sunny out, but they had a misting system for outdoor seating which was very nice. The workers there are amazing as always! They always have good vibes and energy which I love. One of the guys would come and check in with us as we were eating outside just to make sure we were all good! I really like the poke bowls here!! They all have their own special twist to them making them a little different from the traditional poke. I usually get a smoothie with my bowl too! Yum!! We found this gem on this trip and they have the best outdoor patio and the food was delicious!! You order at the screens and then they call your name when it's ready! The poki was amazing! It was all the vibes. Eclectic! Leopard print, Hawaiian, 80s90s mtv 00s? fun tiki, bohemian? Poké bowls were smaller than expected but good all things considered. Ahi was fair and rice was cooked well. Staff was attentive and ordering was all via kiosk. Pairing of the hard kombucha was delicious. It was all about that view and a lil cooler temp indoors after a day of mtn biking and climbing. Parking is limited and I think they're closed on Wednesday? Believe the hype this place is stellar!!! Best smoked jerk chicken I have ever had. Great ambiance and enthusiastic service, you can tell they really care about providing a great experience and product. Beautiful views of the lake as well.
