Always a go-to healthy night out with friends! Have been going here for years. The Tuscan kale salad is perfectly seasoned and the turkey burger is always my go to. Service is a little strange with covid now, you have the ability to pay for the meal/order on your phone which I think ruins the dining experience with the server. 4/5 stars for the fact that many of my favorite menu items are no longer here (they did a big menu change a couple years ago I think). "What's that? I can't hear you. Say again?" This is my overwhelming memory from every visit to True Food Kitchen ... of which there were several. Seems to be one of the few places around that can accommodate large groups. If you can avoid coming in a large group - that's probably better. If you can sit outside, better still. Otherwise - don't expect to hear anything. Ah, but the service! Can we call it that? There are definitely people who work there. I wandered up to the bar and joined a group on a recent trip. I was eager to grab a drink and quickly got the bartender's ... no wait ... where's he going? And why won't he make eye contact? Oh, but here comes someone. Excellent, "I'd..." ... I'd wish someone would realize there are people here. Where'd she go off to? ... Someone *did* finally stop but only after we hollered "Excuse me!!" after about 10 minutes. The moment my drink arrived they asked us to move away from the bar to our dining room and please close out the bill. What a way to start a dinner. Dinner was strange. Before anyone had looked at the menu they asked if anyone wanted wine. Since we had no ability to make that call yet, they took away our wine glasses. Okay. I guess no wine then. Water was intermittent. The food came out all at once--except for one plate which took an extra awkward 5 minutes. The food, on the other hand, was quite good. If there is one redeeming thing about this place it's that. There is good food. And allegedly healthy. Though I'll tell you... it doesn't TASTE healthy. If you get my drift. (this is a good thing) So, if you're looking for very good food and don't really care about service or conversation then you've found an ideal spot! read more

Do not come here if you are looking for quick food or good food. The "air fried" chicken, which they have in place of grilled chicken, was dry and lacked any flavor whatsoever. The citrus salmon salad, which was recommended to us by our waitress, was small and was just some greens under a slab of salmon covered in jam. Most of the food was overpriced for the mediocre quality that it was. The Thai noodles were decent, but definitely not worth the 40 minutes we waited for all of our food to come out. The restaurant wasn't even busy on a Saturday evening, but still very slow. Just another overpriced New American place with uncomfortable chairs and harsh lighting. Also, please note that the air vents in the restaurant blow the smell of tobacco, likely from the cigar shop next door, into the restaurant so there is a general tobacco smell. True Food Kitchen in RTC was a super cool food experience. A couple friends and I wanted to try out their healthier and fresh menu especially since they had some dope vegetarian and vegan options. We tried the edamame dumplings, double cheeseburger, Korean noodle bowl, and tomato and lemon ricotta flatbread. The dumplings were vegetarian and made with miso broth, white truffle oil, herbs, and edamame. The dumplings were cooked to a soft but chewy consistency and were packed with savory flavors. I was honestly skeptical about trying an edamame dish but absolutely loved it! It ended up being my favorite dish of the night. Note, it does have an Asian kick to it. The vegan double cheeseburger is made with a house vegan portobello, walnut, and beet patty. It's then assembled with pickled onions, tomatoes, vegan cheddar (I recommend subbing or adding their gouda), veganaise/mayo, and a flaxseed bun. Overall, it was super filling and tasted amazing. All the flavors came together super well and was a hearty dining experience. The Korean noodle bowl was probably the most interesting dish. It was gluten free and vegan. It was assembled with sweet potato glass noodles (they actually looked so cool), pickled shiitake, spinach, carrots, bean sprouts, and toasted sesame. It was all cooked in a sauce that definitely had hints of Korean spices and flavors. Since it was my first time trying a Korean dish, it was different but I liked it a lot. The only thing I would ask for is more sauce! But like actually, the glass noodles themselves are worth the order. Finally the tomato and lemon ricotta flatbread was probably the most underwhelming of the four. Being vegan, it was cherry tomatoes, red onion, lemon ricotta, arugula, and cilantro pumpkin seed pesto spread on flatbread. My major complaint here was that the flatbread was super thin and not spongy at all. Other than that the flavors complimented each other well and the cilantro pumpkin seed pesto definitely stole the show! Overall True Food Kitchen was great! The RTC restaurant had dim light vibes and the staff was accommodating even though we visited near closing time. Pro tip: ask for their spicy sauce; it pairs well with all their dishes and adds the perfect kick. Note that although the dining experience was great, the food is very pricey. read more

We stopped by for dinner. The place was not busy and we were able to get outside seating with no trouble. We didn't order starters and went straight for our food - ordered 4 dishes. The food took like 15 minutes to arrive, the 3 bowls were all good + tasty and the food was (luke) warm but my son's hamburger was cold with the sides (sweet potato fries) unevenly cooked, although he still liked his meal, and wants to come back. (I've been asking him not to create a fuss over small things). Needless to say the food is pricey even by Reston standards and thus the food and the service needs to be flawless to justify that high(er) price - and today they left it a bit wanting. I'd like to give them 3.5 stars but settling for 4 to give them the benefit of the doubt. read more

Work team lunch was casual and it was good that we were easygoing because the service was a disaster. First a colleague was served a pineapple beverage that our server assured us was lemon-lime ... despite other drinks garnished with lemon and lime slices. Colleague is allergic to pineapple, so that was an issue. It took four tries to get our bill correct -- we were charged for 8 drinks when we had 4, double-charged for an entree, then CC processed for a completely wrong total (think a $30 charge instead of $180). Finally got it right... and they call me later that day because they can't find the receipt. The amount charged on my card never did match up to my receipt, but I give up. On a positive note, the food was well done and the menu is full of strong choices. From a front-of-house aspect, it needs work. read more

Beautiful huge space inside but we were seated right in the middle by the front which was awkward and I didn't love. The food here is very interesting and different from other places which can be both a good and bad thing. Everything is super healthy as well and I like that they tell you the calories of everything on the menu. I really loved their iced Matcha drink, and I thought that it was a unique drink. I also tried the edamame dumplings, which were delicious and so light! For my entrée, I try the Penang curry with steak. It was way sweeter than any other Penang curry I have tried and not spicy at all. It had kind of a weird sweetness to it, but it was good overall and not heavy or creamy by any means. However, authentic Penang curry is way better. I got this dish with steak and I wish there was more steak in it but the steak was very tender and not dry at all. I will come back and try one of their pizzas. read more

Last week we went there for brunch at their soft opening. We have always been a big fan of True Food. Glad that it's open in Reston now, which is more closer to us! We had Edamame Dumplings, Egg and Chicken Sausage Sandwich, Spicy Tuna Spring Rolls, and Sparkling Mango Tea. One thing I would say, True food has never disappointed us!! The food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent and this new place has an amazing ambiance as well. We absolutely loved everything we tried. My family and I really used to enjoy going here. However, the quality of the service has declined dramatically. After we arrived for our reservation and were seated, it took 17 minutes for a waiter to come to our table and take our drink order--and they only came after I physically got up from the table and asked the people at the front desk to please send a waiter over. We then waited for another long stretch for our drinks and our food, which arrived to our table cold and thus did not taste good. We were not the only ones having this problem; there was another table who came in around the same time as us and also had to get up and ask the front desk to be served. They chose to leave rather than put up with the unacceptably poor service, and I don't blame them in the slightest. I was frankly embarrassed to have brought my dad there for what was supposed to be an enjoyable father's day outing. We will not be back. read more

After getting impatient and deciding to move inside where we might be seen better, we still had to wait about 20 minutes before a waitress came and we could order water. Ended up taking about an hour 15 before we got our food. I completely understand a busy/slow kitchen, but when the front of house is standing around talking to each other and almost seemingly ignoring a table, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. read more

guysssssssss, this place was so good!! we came here for the gluten free menu since my SIL has celiacs. we ordered online & by the time we arrived, the food was already sitting on the counter waiting for us. we ordered (1) watermelon lemonade, (1) sparking peach tea, (1) kids pizza, (1) grass-fed burger, (1) grilled sustainable salmon, (1) mango coconut tart & (1) kids burger. the sparking peach tea was good. the kids pizza was big!! my daughter loved the pizza so much, she ate 3 slices! the kids burger was the same size as the grass-fed burger. it was shocking to see it was the same size & the hummus that came with it was delicious! we were pleased with our dinner & would 100% return again. read more
