Tonight's experience at Pupatella completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice family meal before our flight. My wife specifically ordered the eggplant arancini because our family is very careful about what we eat. Instead, she was served sausage arancini disguised under marinara sauce and unknowingly ate some before realizing the mistake. By that point, the trust was gone. We had no choice but to walk out as a family. What made the situation even worse was that we were flying out that evening and simply wanted to enjoy a peaceful dinner together before our trip. Our son became so upset that he cried, and the entire evening was overshadowed by something that should never have happened. This is not simply about receiving the wrong order. People avoid certain foods for religious reasons, ethical reasons, health reasons, or allergies. Serving a completely different item without proper verification is a serious failure. In a diverse community like Northern Virginia, restaurants must understand that dietary restrictions and food choices deserve respect and careful attention. A restaurant's first responsibility is to ensure that customers are served what they actually ordered. Sadly, our family left disappointed, upset, and without confidence in returning. read more

TL;DR: overall bad experience with food and service VIBE: Came in on a Friday night and it was pretty empty. No one seated inside, but a few tables outside since the weather was nice. Interior is decorated cutely. The table and the booths were dirty/had lots of crumbs around. The plates were also dirty, as well as a few dried on pieces on the silverware. SERVICE: We were greeted promptly and seated. Server came took our drink and food order, but that was basically the extent of it. Had to walk up to the counter to get our check. FOOD: ~Frittura Sampler (2/5): a runner brought this dish to our table but did not point out what was what, which would have been helpful because everything looked similar. He promptly left before I could even ask. It came with 2 sausage arancini (3/5), eggplant arancini (2/5), panzarotti (2/5), mozzarella balls (3/5), and zucchini fries (1/5). ~Sausage and onion pizza (1/5): as soon as we bit into this one, it tasted off. I thought it was just me, but my husband couldn't take more than one bite. Sausage was flavorless, onions tasted funky, and cheese was meh. We felt sick almost immediately after our meal and assume it was from this. ~Chorizo pizza (3/5): this one at least has some flavor. Chorizo was a little tough, but the peppers were nice. This Neapolitan chain has spread regionally. I felt like I'd taken a wrong turn pulling into this one, which is in a very residential area, at least if you're coming the way I was coming. The flavor of Neapolitan pizza sells itself. The one I got here was not very substantial, so I was glad I ordered other things, including some smoky eggplant arrancini, a salad, and a panna cotta, all of which still only made two meals. I guess if you get some insider deals, you'll be better off. I found the quantity lacking but the quality worth it. read more

Pupatella is my favorite pizza restaurant in the DMV and a place I wish they had an outpost somewhere in SoCal too. Their crusts, sauce, and the topping they use are simply incomparable to other establishments elsewhere. They have both in-store seatings and to-go as an option. I usually like eating them home because I don't care to enjoy my food with lots of shrieking kids or doors opening and closing. The ambiance is family friendly and not great for those like me who do mind eating in noisy, doors opened and gushed in cold air and now the whole place is smoky because something is burning type of things. But really, the best thing to do is eating it right away there and then. The service can be slow so it's highly recommended you place the order online ahead of time. The salads here are rather underrated. My personal favorite is the Croccante Salad. It has feta cheese, spring mix, tasty croutons, and the star of the bowl, the crispy + savory prosciutto de Parma. Omg. If this is the kind of salad I get to eat everyday, I wouldn't mind eating it for rest of my life. Pizza wise, caivano, bimbi, and onion tarts are my favorite. Their margherita DOC, eggplant parmesan, and classica DOC, are my other favorites. Really nothing on the menu that doesn't taste good. Also, the garlic zeppoles are something you shouldn't overlook!! It's a bowl full of savory fried dough balls that are fluffy, garlicky, and delicious. Parking is free and online ordering is available. Thanks to a gift card, we gave Pupatella a second try. I liked the pizza much better this time now that I read what a Neapolitan pizza is supposed to be like. I ordered a side salad which was way more than the size of a normal side salad. The garlic cheese bread was good, but I wish they broiled it a bit. Ordered a white cheese pizza with pepperoni and bacon this time and I thought it was very good. So good that we went back the week after and ordered more pizzas for a family dinner. The food and service is very good when they are not too busy. This time (evening of 4/25/2025) my pick up time 6:33 was way too soon for them as they were very busy with many customers. Looked like there was some event with a radio station and they were closing the event when I got there. My order was about 15 minutes late and one of my two pizzas was (in my opinion) burnt. Two trips this week. I tried to Mimosa pizza again. Added hot honey to a few slices. It wasn't neccesary but just an added bonus to a great tasting pizza. Went back again tonight (Wednesday the 14th for their birthday celebration. I think this was my 6th visit? I decided to try something different so I ordered the Mushroom Pizza (Sauteed mushroom, garlic, brie cheese, truffle oil with Italian cream sauce. I gotta say, this one was ok. I may have to order it again, because I thought it would have more flavor..., who knows. In my excited anticipation I forgot to order the brussel sprouts (which I've had before) which were delicious. I also ordered a Red Sangria and a Nutella Pizza with sliced apples. I ate 4 slices and took the rest home. Very tasty and enjoyed the compliment of textures. Overall, I enjoyed both visits and I have also enjoyed the fact there are more people visiting this place as I keep going back. This place is a treasure. I ordered a cannoli that was supposedly filled to order, but it was a major letdown. As an Italian American from New Jersey, I've never seen a cannoli done so poorly at a pizza place. There was barely any filling, maybe a tablespoon at each end with some pistachios, while the entire center was completely empty. The filling that was there didn't taste good either. After hearing all the amazing things about the Pupatella across Northern Virginia, I was thrilled to hear about the location that opened up in Chantilly. The restaurant is nice and clean and the staff is friendly attentive. You get to watch the kitchen staff prep the pizza right and cook it in their unique oven. We tried the Hand of God Cocktail which was mainly just pineapple juice with a hint of liquor. Probably pass on this and all cocktails in the future. The food was pretty average in my opinion when it comes to flavor but seems to be below Par from what I have heard about other locations. We decided to go with the Frittura Sampler which basically was a little bit of everything because we wanted to try the full experience. Every was fried and freshly prepared but the presentation could have been much better. The appetizer didn't look that appetizing at all. I'd avoid the eggplant option because it didn't have much flavor and was pretty mushy. Thank goodness for the marinara sauce to add some much needed flavor. The Margherita pizza was probably my favorite option which is shocking because I usually love the meat lovers option on my pizza. It had a good balance of sauce, cheese, and basil flavors. I also did a make my own pizza with sausage and salami. The salami was full of flavor and was the perfect topping. The sausage was crumbled so the flavor really didn't come through as much as bacon or a veggie topping would. I'd recommend against the sausage here. Overall pretty decent experience if you are lookin to satisfy the pizza craving. Bonus we later learned that you can ask to have your pizza cooked a little longer to get a more crispy crust. read more

We went there on a Saturday night around 5/5:15 with a large group WITH a million kids. The host did not bat an eye about seating us all together, making sure the food kept moving, keeping the kids entertained with stickers, and not being bothered about them getting out of their seats 700 times. Pupatella's pizza is FANTASTIC, the wood-fired flavor, options, this location also has a GREAT bar. BLUF: Service was good. Welcoming. Cheerful. Prices are a good value during specials. Pizza was ok. Not mindblowing, not awful. The space was open & bright, clean, minimalist. Good for mobility accessibility once inside, but not sure whether there's another entrance for easy wheel-in. The entrance on the side facing Hwy 50 had at least 2 steps & didn't notice a ramp. The pizza. Well, the sauce tasted fresh & tasty (a little too salty) & the pepperoni was good quality. Mozzarella tasty & liberally distributed. The crust...not my cup o'tea. Toooo chewy, thin, kinda tough. And, mine on this day had too many burnt spots which really interfered with the flavors. Hard to get that bitter charred taste off the palate. This is a must-foldover kinda pizza. Otherwise, your pizza will just slap you in the face but not in a good way. Too flimsy. Desserts & coffee are a bit pricey & kinda disappointing. Espresso while tasty affogato-style, the portion of ice cream was so dinky it all melted on impact with the espresso. Not worth $8 (including tax & tip) for a couple ounces of espresso & essentially flavored milk. Was the pizza worth the drive? Not so much. Will I pay regular price for this pizza? Nope. Too expensive for what you get & the pizza wasn't something so unique or so incredible that equivalent "hits the spot" pizza at some other chain or local restaurant couldn't be substituted. Bummed. Really wanted to love this pizza, but it just didn't wow. Can't even consider returning to pay $15 & up for a dinky pizza. You might even leave kinda hungry. There's not much to the pizza. However, if in the area & a hankering for pizza is what you have, they have Happy Hour which seemed like a decent deal. The staff was nice. Those two factors warrant a trial visit in the least for those whose curiosity gets the best of them. And, I do like their low profile boxes... much easier to fit in the fridge! read more

This was my first time at this specific Pupatella location, and it was a delightful experience. Went on a Friday evenings, and was not too crowded, so we were able to be seated right away. I had the Spinach Pizza, which had spinach, feta cheese, and red peppers. It was delicious! Good amount of cheese to crust combination. Neopoliatn sale pizza usually isn't my favorite, as I like a very crunchy crust, but for Neapolitan, it is very good. I've been to several of the other locations as well, and so I don't think you could go wring with any of the selections here.
