I really enjoyed my experience but they were out of several menu items. I've been for lunch and dinner now and think it works well for both. We went on a Thursday evening and it wasn't too noisy and were seated right away. The atmosphere is pretty casual although there were several couples there on a mid-week date night. They have a full bar, so even grabbing a few drinks here would be a nicer, more relaxed option than Jackson's down the block. I appreciated the seasonal menu and found plenty of options to accommodate my pescatarian diet. Service was really off and my fish, although relatively flavorful, was really fishy smelling. The food was pretty incredible but the low level of service killed our experience during our visit. We were one of three tables total in the restaurant and our waiter only had two of those but we still didn't have a good experience. We had to remind him of basic things like water, dishes piling up, process the credit cards sitting there for 20 mins etc. This is in addition to some other things when ordering food and drinks: For example - we'd ask what the special drink was and the answer would be "I'm not sure" instead of "let me check". We tried to order a bottle instead of a glass of wine but he said he already put the order in and couldn't change it... which is fair since we changed our mind but in most restaurants they'd just have a manager nix the glass before it arrives and bring the bottle ? After Covid, people have forgotten what being in the service industry is all about. I walked into the restaurant at 5:42 PM on a Monday. I was greeted and directed to sit anywhere. I sat at the bar and was shown a QR code. I was then instructed to order through the app if I wanted anything. While this may be picky, it was kind of sad to see as there was very few people in the restaurant and I was the only person at the bar. You would think that the bartender would have enough time to serve me. It would be nice for things to go back to normal where servers actually wait on their patrons instead of just expecting them to do everything through the app. I'll be getting dinner somewhere else where I can experience what I'm apparently tipping for. Hmm. Wasn't super impressed with this location of True Food. I've been to the Mosaic location once before and was relatively pleased with this experience. It seems that the RTC True Food has some kinks to work out. I brought my friend here to celebrate her birthday, she had never been here before and was excited. We didn't make a reservation (on a Saturday night) until kind of late, but the hostess we talked to was very nice and accommodating (...even when we showed up a little late). We were seated immediately at a corner booth, which was nice and spacious for just the two of us! The space of the restaurant itself is gorgeous, very roomy and decorated with lots of plants and nature-themed decor. When our waiter arrived, he asked us if we'd ever been, and I told him I'd been to another location but that my friend had not. He gave us his whole spiel about True Food and said something along the lines of, "well, we don't serve soda or fried food here." He also pulled the wine glasses from the table immediately, which was funny to us since we have both been of age for a while. I ordered the grilled chicken panini with the side kale salad, and my friend ordered the margherita pizza. The picture of the pizza on their online menu looked delicious, with lots of fresh mozzarella on it. My friend was really looking forward to it, because she loves margherita pizzas but finds that most places around here don't make ACTUAL margherita pizzas, and they're usually just regular cheese pizzas. Well, we even mentioned this to our waiter and he said that this would be the best margherita pizza she's ever had. Flash forward to when our food arrived and her 'margherita' pizza was, as we had feared, a regular cheese pizza with a few TINY drops of mozzarella. I'll even include a side-by-side comparison of what the pizza on their menu looks like vs. the one she got. My panini was interesting, it was served on a very thin pita bread so it was almost more of a wrap than a panini. It was definitely tasty and fresh, but it didn't hold up super well and the broccolini in a panini was an interesting choice. The side kale salad was good, no complaints there. When the waiter came around to check on us, we (politely) expressed our disappointment with the pizza. My friend even said that the pizza itself was really good, but it wasn't what she expected - there was barely any fresh mozz or basil, and no fresh tomatoes at all. The waiter was just kind of like, "well then where have you had a good one?" It could just be me but he seemed kind of sassy the whole time, almost like he thought we were annoying teenagers. Whatever, not my problem. I will say that I ordered the chocolate flourless cake as a "birthday" cake and he brought it out really nicely with the candle and everything. This was definitely the best part of the meal--it was delicious. Very dense, thick, and flavorful, and it had an interesting coconuty taste that wasn't expected but still very good. This is my third True Kitchen experience, but first at Reston. Checking in for the reservation was a on easy and friendly experience. We were able to get a table outside and the server was present to the table quick and also helpful with the menu. It took a very long time to get our drinks (prickly pear and watermelon lemonade) and the server recognized that. Although waters were provided in the meantime it was difficult to get a refill. After finishing a couple drinks we still hadn't got our appetizer, edamame guacamole. We checked our online bill and realized the order had not been put in. It was difficult to get our servers attention and at that point we just asked her to forget about it since our food was hopefully on the way. The burgers came and I was starving! Unfortunately, the burger was over cooked. I asked for med and got well done. Like super well done - grey white in the middle with a very firm texture. My husbands was the same way. See pics attached. The server also never came back to ask us how or burgers or if we needed anything. We just ask for the check and paid through the app. There was a table that was present before we even sat down. Came for Mother's Day brunch with a 6 and 9 year old. We arrived at opening, and were one of the first tables seated. No kids options for brunch, just lunch/dinner items. We ordered pancakes for the kids, just to be told after the order went in that they were out of pancakes. This seems like terrible planning, no pancakes on Mother's Day for brunch?! the The regular menu isn't super kid friendly and the only kids options are lunch items that aren't appealing at 10:30 am. Server seemed a bit inexperienced and not totally comfortable yet. We had a few plates and drinks cleared before we were finished - pet peeve ! I'm not one to complain, especially about TFK which is typically one of our favorite places. Quality control at this location has plummeted. I ordered the chicken sausage pizza, which I've really enjoyed in the past. What was brought to the table should not have been served. The size was only about 65% of what it normally is, barely had any chicken or sausage on it, and was overbaked such that the crusts were inedible. My guess is they ran out of dough and ingredients and just used whatever was left. I was with company and on best behavior, otherwise I would've sent it back or asked them to take it off the bill. read more

My wife and I were joined by my sister-in-law and her husband for dinner last evening. We've eaten there several times that started soon after they opened this Reston location. We also have found that the quality of the food has declined since they opened here. To be specific; the lasagna this evening had too much garlic. The butternut squash soup had too much honey in it which made it quite sweet, and my ancient grains bowl had grain in it that was not cooked enough to be chewable. I was presently surprised by this place. The inside is very spacious and nicely decorated. I made reservations in advance and was promptly seated upon my arrival. I ordered the Lasagna Bolognese. It was excellent and a reasonable portion size. I chose this resturant because I am someone who watches my weight and is conscious of the things I eat and portion sizes. Had lunch here yesterday for their soft opening and I was blown away by the food. I've eaten at the TFK in Merrifield before so knew what to expect, but I was even more impressed at this location. Ordered edamame dumplings and tuna spring rolls to start. The dashi broth and dumpling filling was so light and flavorful and delicious. Tuna was impeccable and loved the crunch from the variety of veggies. Mains were the lasagna with turkey sausage (couldn't believe it was under 500 calories!) and the chicken sausage pizza. I would order both again and again. Staff was very attentive and friendly, and yes I know they were all on their best behavior bc it's the soft opening, so I'm hoping they'll keep that up when they launch. Visited Memorial Day Weekend on a cold and rainy night with some friends. To start, we got the edamame dumplings and charred cauliflower to share. The portion sizes were tiny for the price, and while the food was good, it was nothing memorable. I will say the dates in the cauliflower was weird, and it would've been better if they were left out. For an entree, I got the grilled chicken and mozzarella panini. The tomato sauce was definitely the star of the dish as it was delicious and the broccolini was interesting--but not in a bad way. However, it was so so salty!! I love salt and have no problem downing chips and queso over at Uncle Julios, but this dish kept me chugging water all night. Our waitress was so kind and great about splitting the check, but there was some confusion over the QR code ordering and the food came out all at different times--a few of us waited a good 10+ minutes for the others in our party to receive their entrees. Overall, I thought my meal was fine, but I don't know if I would recommend it or return--though I have heard rave reviews about their brunch. There are so many other great restaurants in RTC that offer (imho) better food at the same price point. read more

All the entrees ordered were cold and the waiter didn't come by once to check on us. We had to keep asking for water. He brought a big pitcher for us to refill. I ordered the harissa chicken pizza ($16.50), lasagna bolognese ($19), and herb hummus ($10.50) from this location for pickup. Because this is a "healthy" restaurant, I expected the food to be lackluster but was pleasantly surprised. The harissa chicken pizza was my favorite dish; it was delicious (5/5)! It had generous chunks of chicken and a nice garlic flavor, and you can get two meals out of it. The lasagna bolognese was also good (4/5), but I don't think it's worth the price. The herb hummus was good as well (4/5) but was nothing special. The pitas were really thin, which helps with calorie control I guess.
