Im sad because I liked my food. However, I was concerned by what I could see through the clear window into the kitchen. One employee handling food appeared to have long, dirty, disheveled hair that was not covered, and I observed him leaning over the food while preparing food. Another employee had a very long, scraggly beard extending almost to his lower chest. He was also part of the meal preparation. Neither was wearing a hair net or beard net. Seeing food being handled this way was very off-putting and raised serious concerns for me about basic food-safety and sanitation practices. The open kitchen gives customers a direct view of food preparation, so cleanliness and proper hair/beard restraints should be especially important. I hope management addresses this promptly and ensures that staff handling food follow appropriate hygiene and food-safety procedures. read more

Our family decided to go in for a family lunch a few weeks ago because we've been wanting to try their healthy food choices. Overall, it was okay...the dishes we ordered were tasty, a little underwhelming, however the prices were a bit high for what we received, in my opinion. I do appreciate the vegan, vegetarian, and GF options. Our server was attentive, kind and answered any questions we had about the menu but, she seemed (and the staff in general) a little discombobulated. Service was a little slow...my sister ordered a pizza and it was burned, so they immediately made her another. We finally decided to try True Food Kitchen after hearing so many great things, and overall, the food absolutely lived up to the hype. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, a little after 1:00 p.m. One thing that immediately stood out was that the restaurant appeared fairly empty when we arrived, yet we still had to wait to be seated. The wait wasn't long, but it felt a bit unusual given how many open tables were available. Once seated, we ordered the Rancher's Hash, which was outstanding. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the flavors came together beautifully. We also shared the Mediterranean Hummus, which was equally impressive. Fresh, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. We also tried a couple of the seasonal beverages, and they were incredibly refreshing. If you're visiting, I definitely recommend trying one of the seasonal drinks. They were a perfect complement to the meal. The food itself was easily a five-star experience. Unfortunately, a few other aspects of the visit fell short. Our server was friendly when we interacted with him, but after taking our order, we rarely saw him. Other staff members delivered the food, and there wasn't much follow-up throughout the meal. A quick check-in would have gone a long way, especially since the restaurant was not particularly busy. The biggest issue for us, however, was the lighting. The interior lighting is extremely bright, and the white light fixtures reflect a significant amount of light throughout the dining room and directly unto the table also reflecting the light. For guests who are sensitive to bright lighting or prone to migraines, this may be something to consider. The lighting was intense enough that my daughter began experiencing the onset of a migraine, which unfortunately cut our outing short. While the food was truly excellent and worth trying, the seating delay, lack of attentiveness during service, and overwhelmingly bright lighting impacted the overall experience. I'd still recommend giving True Food Kitchen a try for the food alone, but I hope some attention is given to the guest experience as well. read more

I am truly a True Food Fan- and I am not normally one to eat at chain restaurants! I travel most every week and find that I can consistently found that True food measures up no matter which location I go to! I have to admit that I order the same things every time, changing only the protein and hold on the bread crumbs---but that should say something on the caliber of their Kale salad. It is the best I have had and have whenever I go! I love the shrimp there- I do double protein and sometimes I will do half chicken and half shrimp. GREAT OVERALL FIRST VISIT. I hope for many more to come. My bestie was visiting in town and we decided to stop here for a bite to eat. I've heard about this place since it opened, but I had never been, what a great first visit to share with my bestie. The waitress was really great, I can't remember her name, but she was a brunette and she was super fun. Very helpful and bubbly. Our service overall was very quick, we got everything in a very timely manner and everything tastes fantastic. In the front lobby, we requested to sit outside, they were very accommodating and helpful, it didn't take much more time than we were already told we had to wait for. The outside patio was perfect, we had a great view of the sunset and it was nice to see The people walking around the plaza. Plus, the weather felt great. We decided to order a few things so that we could each try a bit of it, everything was super fantastic and flavored so well. I honestly can't find a single thing to complain about. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance sets the tone--bright, modern, and really welcoming without feeling overly trendy. The edamame dumplings are incredible--light, packed with flavor, and the broth/sauce they come in takes them to another level. We made a reservation for a party of 15 for tonight. They gave us an L shaped table which actually made it very easy to communicate to almost all of the guests. This place is very loud so it was nice not to be in the middle of the restaurant. The service was very good. It took a long time for the food to arrive but it is Friday night after all. I will never go back and here is the reason why. I ordered a simple meal, steak and fries with a side salad. My steak frites came super well done even though I ordered medium. I didn't even bother tasting it. I sent it back. A few minutes later they bring me another one and this one was medium well. I didn't bother sending it back. I went to True Food Kitchen for an early dinner after hearing good things, and overall the experience landed as average. The ambience is one of the stronger points. The space feels modern, clean, and fresh, and the booth seating was comfortable. We went early, so it was not very busy, which made the environment relaxed and quiet. Parking is adequate, but it is not directly at the building. You do have to walk from the parking lot to the restaurant, which is worth noting for anyone with mobility concerns. Service was friendly but not very attentive. Our waitress was pleasant, but there was very little proactive check-in throughout the meal. For drinks, I ordered a spicy margarita. It was fine, but Tajín was not offered on the rim, which felt like a miss for a restaurant at this price point. I had to ask for it after the drink arrived. My friend ordered a pineapple seltzer, which tasted more like lightly flavored sparkling water than an actual pineapple drink. It was not very sweet and not especially memorable. We also ordered the air-fried french fries. While I generally like air-fried options because they are marketed as a lighter alternative, these were surprisingly oily. They come in a cone and are priced at $12, which already felt steep for what is essentially an air-fried potato. The fries came with a very small ramekin of sauce. When I asked for ketchup, the waitress said she could bring it, and then mentioned that ranch would be an extra dollar. At that point, paying an additional dollar for a tablespoon of ranch on top of a $12 side felt excessive. For entrées, we ordered the chicken parmesan and the Korean noodle bowl. Both were underwhelming. The chicken parmesan was overcooked, the noodles were barely warm, and the marinara lacked depth and flavor. The Korean noodle bowl was the better of the two. The chicken had more flavor, but even that dish did not stand out or feel particularly well executed. With a total bill just under $100 for two people, we both agreed the food and overall experience did not justify the cost. With so many dining options available, this is not a place we would choose to return to. My familyof 8 went there for dinner on New Year's Eve. It was a default but glad we went. They had availability which was surprising as most places were not available or had a special menu that night. In any event, we enjoyed our dinner. We were seated on the patio with a heater at one end of a long table with the other end at the outside edge of the patio (with a screen) so not all benefited from the heat. It wasn't unbearable, just chilly for some. The waiter was exceptional as was service. Everything was served in a timely manner and water was refreshed as needed. I had the American Burger with fries. Fries were a bit burnt and, in come cases soggy, but the burger was delicious and cooked the way I requested. One had the steak/frites and it looked really good and he liked it. One had the air-fried chicken tenders and said they had too much salt. Last time we ate here, I had a nice piece of beef with mashed potatoes and carrots and it was SO good, so we were excited to come back. This time was pretty terrible food wise, but our server was very nice and cocktails were good to start. We got the table fries to share as an appetizer and while I appreciate their commitment to no seed oils, maybe just don't offer fries? They were delivered as a clump of mushy, steamed potato for $12. We also asked for them 'Tuscan dusted' that's offered on the menu and there was no sign of it. We had 3 hungry people at the table and even though it was a small serving, we didn't even finish them because they were so bad. When ordering our meals, we were told how good the sourdough pizza was, so 2/3 of us ordered that while the other got a GF crust. The GF crust pizza was enjoyed but the sourdough ones were not. I've had SO MANY sourdough pizzas and really am not that critical, but these were so bad. They were barely cooked, the crust was white with no sign of cooking and the center was doughy and so so soggy. Way past the typical soggy from the style/grease/etc. The $20 price tag made it even harder to accept such a poor representation of pizza. On a regular day I would have politely sent it back for a re-do, but considering we were there for my friend's birthday and moms night out, I didn't want to disrupt our rare night out together. I will never be able to get enough of True Food! It had been a while since I dined here, but I came back for my birthday and had a great experience! My group of three was seated right away. Our server was friendly, gave great recommendations, and was working hard with other tables and working at the bar. I ordered the tuna poke bowl and found the ingredients so fresh and unique. My friend spilled to our server that it was my birthday and she came back with the dessert menu saying it was on the house. We shared the flourless chocolate cake, which came with a candle it. I enjoyed the nice touch without the song and show of other restaurants. The cake itself was heavenly and the coconut ice cream that came with it was also delicious. True Food Kitchen has decently tasty food that is very healthy & fresh...but meagerly portioned. I've been to True Food a few times in the past, as they also have locations in the Southern California area. My family is mostly vegan and we were stopping by La Encantada for the day - True Food is a great option for plant-based/vegan foods, so we stopped here for lunch. There's a lovely patio outside of it that we found a table on, and our server was very friendly and efficient with his service. I appreciated that there were shades they could bring down if there was sun in your face (which it so often is when it's low in the sky on winter afternoons). As for the food, we shared a Mediterranean Hummus Appetizer, and I also ordered the Plant-Based Double Cheeseburger in order to give it a try! The Hummus Appetizer was very fresh and had great quality hummus with some red pepper and other spices/seasonings in it. I would've preferred more normal slices of pita bread rather than the crunchy, baked flatbread pieces they have instead...but it's still good quality and flavorful to go with the hummus. I found the portion size a bit disappointing for the price, however, and we paid $2 extra to get more of the baked flatbread pieces since there were so few to enjoy the hummus with. The Plant-Based Double Cheeseburger was....decent, although the pale white color of the buns were a bit off-putting, and the burger was a tad bit bland when it came to seasoning/flavor. I would have to say that there's many other vegan burgers I've had in the past that I would much prefer over this one, especially for the $20 price tag. I got an espresso martini for my drink, and it was very well made with good flavor, strength, and the right mix of all the ingredients. Overall, True Food Kitchen is a solid option for healthier food, especially if you have a plant-based/vegan diet. Anyone that knows me knows that I loathe turkey. I don't touch the stuff, even at Thanksgiving. So why did I feel compelled to order a turkey burger. Meant to be. Came here for lunch after Christmas shopping. Brought the dog and hubby. It was their first time and we sat outside on the patio. We ordered table fries to start and to drink I ordered the Iced Lavender Matcha Latte which I've had on every visit here. It is truly the best. Hubby found their version of ketchup intriguing and had to ask for more (who knew). For my entree I took the Diestel Farms turkey, smoked gouda, avocado, tomato, butter lettuce, jalapeño rémoulade Turkey Burger. It was juicy burger and the gouda went perfectly with, excellent combo of flavors!! Since we had ordered fries I chose a delicious kale salad to accompany my burger. Doggie was given a bowl of water by our very accommodating server. All the staff that helped us were kind. I really like that the menu choices aren't "heavy" which is great after you've shopped or done a hike. With the exception of the fries I don't feel weighed down by grease or unhealthy junk. I came here on Friday after the moonglow yoga event with a group of five. I had another delicious meal with no complaints on service! Our server recommended a brussels sprout appetizer, and I think it was my favorite thing I had thing I had! I was so well balanced, and had so many flavors.. I love the cilantro addition. I also ordered the pesto lasagna and it didn't disappoint either. Everyone at the table, enjoyed their meals, except for my friend who ordered the shrimp entrée. I think she felt it could've been more flavorful... which is odd for all of the dishes I've had at this restaurant. Looking at the shrimp, it did seem pretty bare, but I'm thinking maybe it was meant to coincide with the flavors of the side that it came with. Excellent menu selection across the board. This was my first visit, so I don't know what their seasonal selections look like, but everything I saw on the menu looked tempting. I opted for the butternut squash soup, a teriyaki protein bowl (add steak), a glass of their Liberty School Cabarnet Sauvignon, and for dessert I had an espresso martini. Excellent service from Tyson and Renn working the bar. They were attentive, conversational, and pleasant without being overbearing. The food was excellent. The teriyaki bowl had a nice blend of flavors without anything being overpowering and just the right amount of salt. Sometimes these protein bowls can be salty, this wasn't the case tonight. Excellent. The space itself is comfortable. There's some TVs for those so inclined, and it's open and inviting without feeling overbearing. The runners bringing out the food were very pleasant. My family loves the air fried chicken - & we are so excited they now have air fried french fries (which were really tasty!). I also tried the tofu scramble during our last meal, it was great but I wish there had been potatoes in it as well to make it a little more hearty. All in all, 5 stars. Food great. We went during dinner, and waiting about 5 minutes before being seated, and once seated, service was great. Our cups stayed full and the food came out quickly. My family got a range of things - fries for the table (love their sauce), cheese pizza, chicken parmigiana, steak frites and jambalaya and we all loved it. I appreciate how the food doesn't feel heavy and greasy. The espresso martini was delicious and the beer was ice cold and perfect. The ricotta and puffed bread was the best app. For our entrées, we had a turkey burger, avocado toast and the air fried buffalo chicken sandwich, which was recommended by our server Nothing good or bad about the brussels sprouts, they were brussels sprouts perfectly fine nothing wrong with them The hummus was average at Best it was pretty grainy not exactly sure what it was made of, but wasn't my favorite The french fries are a little bit of a sticking point for me and while they were very good, they are air fried but for $12 because there are two options a $12 portion and a six dollar portion and I thought for the table let's get the $12 portion seemed very skimpy to me. In fact that was more of a six dollar portion of french fries and I've heard other people in the comments complain about the size of the order of the fries, particularly with the steak frites. The avocado toast was too spicy for my wife And on top of that she couldn't cut it with a knife. The bread was that hard. She ended up giving it to me and I ate it and it was fine but nothing spectacular. I liked The chili crisp on the egg. She was not a fan of the entree. My mother-in-law had the turkey burger and she said she thought it was very good so high points there As for my buffalo chicken sandwich, it was OK I wouldn't say it was juicy or dry, but it was a very thin patty and not what I would've expected from this place maybe because it was air fried they needed it to be very thin, but I've had better sandwiches for five dollars at Popeyes KFC or any of those chicken joints and this was probably 20 bucks. It would be a hard pass if I went back. We did have some drinks my wife had an espresso martini which she really enjoyed and my mother-in-law had a martini that she also enjoyed so not a total loss for this place. My wife loves carrot cake so does my mother-in-law so we ordered the carrot cake and shared it amongst the three of us I don't know if maybe I didn't read the description or the waiter didn't pre-warn me but if you get the carrot cake expecting this to be a dessert you'll be sadly mistaken. This is a cake that does not have cream cheese frosting, and whatever's on top of it. I'm guessing it was a ricotta. It is not sweet at all. In fact, this would probably be more of a savory item and I would not call it a dessert in any shape way or form honestly, it shouldn't even be on a dessert menu otherwise - again I may have misread it. I haven't looked at the menu before or since and I was not a huge fan of this. As far as the ambience of the place, it's fine. It's got high ceilings. It's a moderate Noise level and it's in a beautiful part of town although if you want to have a nice view, you might want to try to sit on the patio though this time of year, maybe not the best. Sadly True Food has gotten even worse. The True should be slashed out of the name. Now that Oprah owns apart in it and managment has changed this has become another fast food type restaurant. They took off things from the menu that required them to be made and cooked fresh such as there curry dish which was the best. The other day I got a salad and it was missing the protein. What is more is the salad itself looked like it had been sitting for days...like it was prechopped and then sat in the fridge for 24 hours. Not fresh at all. By the way when the manager delivered my salad I mentioned the protein was missing he did not give one apology not when he took it or brought it back even though I was kind about it. The waitress was subpar. The over all quality of the food has taken a huge nose dive. I ordered a side of roasted veggies and a bowl of corn came out with two pieces of zucchini..the cheapest most unappetizing thing you could imagine. What a total bust this place has become. The only thing they have going for them is they do not cook in seed oil. As someone that has been going to True Food Kitchen for probably close to a decade now it is no longer a healthy and fresh restaurant but a major diappointment of cheap, cutting cost ways to get food out that looks old and makes my stomach hurt. read more

Everything I've had here has been delicious! I've sat inside and outside and both areas are cute and comfy! The menu is well labeled for gluten free! On my most recent visit, I had the gluten free pancakes, which is always an exciting find and they were delicious! I also had the spiked peach lemonade- tasty! Well, this is a rare update, but in this case I feel the feedback is important. After my dining experience from November, I noticed a few days later that my credit card was missing, so I called and asked if it was in the lost in found. I spoke to a hostess who was unable to assist me. A manager called me later that day and said my card was not there. I am not someone that misplaces credit cards. I looked everywhere at home, my car, etc. We went back to La Encantada the following week and popped by True Food in person to inquire about my credit card again, and guess what.... it was there! I have issue with management telling me my card was not there when it was. The headache of changing credit cards on accounts is massive. Aside from that, it just shows there's a level incompetence in the front of house management. read more

I don't know what has happened but True Food is not the same as it once was. We have been here several times in the last year and we will not be back. When it first opened, there was a butternut squash pizza (limited time) that was so amazing, I wanted to eat this every chance I got. The last couple of times I have had this same pizza, it was nearly inedible. I don't know what happened! My husband always gets the Korean noodles but the last couple of times, it has been so salty that you cannot eat it. We've been with friends a few times too and they share the same opinion - True Food has went downhill. Wanted to try this place out & it was my birthday sooooo Seated immediately and server got us waters while we looked at drink menu. I got the glass of Rose and ordered the simple salad and seared tuna dish. My husband had kale salad and lasagna. Very tasty and I was so impressed with how the presentation of plates were. They have a bar you can sit at so if you happen to just stop in for a drink and maybe appetizers East peasy. Server asked about room for dessert & overheard my husband tell me it's my birthday so she said choose one. We got chocolate mousse with mint and strawberries. Definitely will be back read more

True Food Kitchen - My seared tuna dish - New American Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

I've eaten here several times and it was always good, with excellent service, so I was excited to introduce a few other friends to the place for a Sunday brunch. Unfortunately the meal was a calamity of errors, and I don't think any of us will be back. Three of our party of six arrived first. We were promptly seated and our server came over. When she learned there were new to True Foods diners in both the group there and those still to arrive, she said something about 'not wanting to give the spiel twice', announced she's just bringing us water for now, and left. So we were unable to even order drinks while we waited. When everyone else arrived, we were eventually permitted to order drinks. We waited over 20 minutes for them to arrive, and while two of us had the same thing, they were visibly different. I tasted both and it was clear they weren't made the same way. We ordered a small plate for the table and then an entree for everyone. The starter arrived in about 20 minutes, and it was tasty but small for the price. We then waited another 40 minutes for our entrees, while the tables all around us received their food even though they had ordered after us. The server never asked if we wanted another round of drinks, and in fact we barely saw her again until just before the food finally arrived. And when it did, it was a total disappointment. First, the entrees came out two at a time, so delivering them all took another 10 minutes. The kids pasta was fine, but the two air crisp chicken sandwiches had clearly been sitting a while and their gluten free buns had become so hard they were inedible. The manager stopped by and we explained what was wrong. He offered to bring new buns and we agreed. I didn't realize that would take over 10 minutes, leaving the entire sandwich cold by the time they were dropped off. While the new gluten free buns were clearly more freshly prepared, they were still bad- heavy and dense and unsuitable for the sandwich (so even if things had been well executed, it still wouldn't have been great). I paid an up charge for mashed potatoes instead of salad but they too were inedible- they had been overworked until they had the consistency of paste. During the time we waited for the buns, two other diners found errors in their meals- one had ordered no peppers but received them, which was irritating if not a huge deal as it wasn't an allergy. But another diner's tofu and quinoa had random ingredients clearly from another dish (including glass noodles sauced with a different sauce) mixed into her food. After the entrees our server asked if we wanted dessert, but it took so long for her to bring a dessert menu we finally gave up and just got the check. The manager did comp the two dishes with the incorrect ingredients, but considering how long we waited, how many other issues we had with the food, and the poor service, that didn't feel like they were really solving the issues. Met a new friend halfway between Marana and Sabino = La Encantada, about 25 minutes from each of us (sometimes it amazes how wide "Tucson" is)! True Food has a decent happy hour where select appetizers and drinks are discounted between 3-6pm, including beers, select wines and cocktails. Unbeknownst to us, they have a dinner special for two - also with a specific menu - and it's $49. It includes one shared app and dessert plus two entrees. We ultimately opted for the latter and ordered the edamame dumplings app ($14); Chinese chicken salad entree ($18); Spinach mushroom pizza ($20); and the lone dessert option, a small but decadent flourless chocolate cake with ice cream scoop. The savings vs (a la carte) is about 25% so a nice deal also. The (5) edamame dumplings were fantastic. The salad was a bit too heavy on the ginger for me but this was her selection and she gave it an "A." The pizza is a super-thin crust that was nicely crisp on the bottom. Toppings were ample, including large dollops of ricotta, Mmm. The cake was typically sweet for a flourless chocolate but not too, which made the vanilla ice cream pairing perfect. On this Friday at 4pm the establishment was already about 75% full. By 5:30p there was nary an empty table. We were seated promptly and our server was fantastic (I should have gotten her name!). Despite our 3-hour stay, she checked on us at all the appropriate times, even during our last hour after all dishes had long been cleared. Naturally a 25% tip was in order. Although a bit of a hike for me, I hope to return to try a few other items I had eyed, including the butternut squash pizza and the hummus appetizer (which I had heard was divine).
