I've eaten here several times and it was always good, with excellent service, so I was excited to introduce a few other friends to the place for a Sunday brunch. Unfortunately the meal was a calamity of errors, and I don't think any of us will be back. Three of our party of six arrived first. We were promptly seated and our server came over. When she learned there were new to True Foods diners in both the group there and those still to arrive, she said something about 'not wanting to give the spiel twice', announced she's just bringing us water for now, and left. So we were unable to even order drinks while we waited. When everyone else arrived, we were eventually permitted to order drinks. We waited over 20 minutes for them to arrive, and while two of us had the same thing, they were visibly different. I tasted both and it was clear they weren't made the same way. We ordered a small plate for the table and then an entree for everyone. The starter arrived in about 20 minutes, and it was tasty but small for the price. We then waited another 40 minutes for our entrees, while the tables all around us received their food even though they had ordered after us. The server never asked if we wanted another round of drinks, and in fact we barely saw her again until just before the food finally arrived. And when it did, it was a total disappointment. First, the entrees came out two at a time, so delivering them all took another 10 minutes. The kids pasta was fine, but the two air crisp chicken sandwiches had clearly been sitting a while and their gluten free buns had become so hard they were inedible. The manager stopped by and we explained what was wrong. He offered to bring new buns and we agreed. I didn't realize that would take over 10 minutes, leaving the entire sandwich cold by the time they were dropped off. While the new gluten free buns were clearly more freshly prepared, they were still bad- heavy and dense and unsuitable for the sandwich (so even if things had been well executed, it still wouldn't have been great). I paid an up charge for mashed potatoes instead of salad but they too were inedible- they had been overworked until they had the consistency of paste. During the time we waited for the buns, two other diners found errors in their meals- one had ordered no peppers but received them, which was irritating if not a huge deal as it wasn't an allergy. But another diner's tofu and quinoa had random ingredients clearly from another dish (including glass noodles sauced with a different sauce) mixed into her food. After the entrees our server asked if we wanted dessert, but it took so long for her to bring a dessert menu we finally gave up and just got the check. The manager did comp the two dishes with the incorrect ingredients, but considering how long we waited, how many other issues we had with the food, and the poor service, that didn't feel like they were really solving the issues. Met a new friend halfway between Marana and Sabino = La Encantada, about 25 minutes from each of us (sometimes it amazes how wide "Tucson" is)! True Food has a decent happy hour where select appetizers and drinks are discounted between 3-6pm, including beers, select wines and cocktails. Unbeknownst to us, they have a dinner special for two - also with a specific menu - and it's $49. It includes one shared app and dessert plus two entrees. We ultimately opted for the latter and ordered the edamame dumplings app ($14); Chinese chicken salad entree ($18); Spinach mushroom pizza ($20); and the lone dessert option, a small but decadent flourless chocolate cake with ice cream scoop. The savings vs (a la carte) is about 25% so a nice deal also. The (5) edamame dumplings were fantastic. The salad was a bit too heavy on the ginger for me but this was her selection and she gave it an "A." The pizza is a super-thin crust that was nicely crisp on the bottom. Toppings were ample, including large dollops of ricotta, Mmm. The cake was typically sweet for a flourless chocolate but not too, which made the vanilla ice cream pairing perfect. On this Friday at 4pm the establishment was already about 75% full. By 5:30p there was nary an empty table. We were seated promptly and our server was fantastic (I should have gotten her name!). Despite our 3-hour stay, she checked on us at all the appropriate times, even during our last hour after all dishes had long been cleared. Naturally a 25% tip was in order. Although a bit of a hike for me, I hope to return to try a few other items I had eyed, including the butternut squash pizza and the hummus appetizer (which I had heard was divine). I have given this place a few tries and every time I go I'm reminded why I should not come back. After today, I am done with this place for good. Waited almost an hour for our food. (A salad and some shrimp). Also, if you have an open kitchen, maybe you should make sure everyone is in compliance with food laws in regards to hairnets and beard guards. That would explain the hair my daughter pulled out from under her shrimp. Absolutely disgusting. NEVER AGAIN. +++ Hello Kim, Thank you for your response but please do not insult my intelligence. It was very easy to spot the employees who were in compliance and those who were not. Arizona Food Code requires food handlers to restrain facial hair like mustaches with beard nets and wear hairnets for uncovered hair (or other coverings to prevent contamination). Service was ok, our attentant did well, the food was a mixed bag. My sweetie ordered the same dish as I the TFK chicken sandwich, hers with fries mine with a basic salad. My plate was acceptable, but my sweetie's plate came with fries that were all burnt, or nearly burnt, her ciabatta bun was a bit soggy as well. The sauce for the fries had an odd taste, and a worse aftertaste. Our attentant offered a "fresh" batch of fries which made us wonder if these were from the bottom of the tray in the first place. The second batch was a little better but many now were undercooked. How do you mess up fries? No annoying music, the seats were comfy, the decor was neutral. Like many restaurants in Tucson lately all seem to struggle with basic quality and consistency. Service was a "B" due to the long gaps with follow ups, and the food rated a "C" for inconsistency and poor execution on the fries. Farmers Scramble was pretty basic, seems to have forgotten salt & pepper and none on the table but I used the peri sauce from Wife's plate and was tasty. This place is located in La Encantada, they have indoor and outdoor seating. We were able to sit out on their patio seating because the weather was nice. Service was friendly and quick, even with our large group. I ordered a farmer's market scramble. It tasted good but the eggs were a little dry. We had a lovely dinner at this restaurant. The space is absolutely gorgeous. There is ample patio seating that is covered - perfect spring spot! The inside decor is bright and modern and welcoming. The hosts and wait staff were so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food! It's fresh and cooked to perfection. The hardest thing about this place is deciding what to order. We tried the street corn flatbread appetizer, the bison sourdough pizza, and the teriyaki bowl with grass-fed steak. I'm a huge lover of mocktails and the Blueberry 75 was spectacular. When I learned this was a chain I had low expectations, but the menu was interested and expensive so I had high hopes. Service was great, the ambiance was good, but they kept cramming people together even though there were open seats. Sure eventually all the seats will be filled but in the meantime provide some kind of privacy between guests. The menu was interesting, but what I noticed is that they were selling bottom tier foods for premium food prices. Like meat loaf, pot roast, flank steak. I'd expect for premium prices, premium ingredients. Now for the food. Again I had high hopes. We started with the corn flatbread. It was alright. For the meal we ordered the panang curry with black rice (protein extra) and a $20 burger with a $2 up charge to replace the salad with mac-n-cheese (not in addition to, but to replace). As you can see from the picture the burger looks good, but like many pictures you see just the good side. The burger was mushy, gray, and unseasoned. If they had cooked the burger at a much higher heat it would have a crust and hold up to the soft bun and more importantly had some flavor, like any. Instead I got a soft bland burger and I had to ask for salt to add some flavor. The mac was fine, all 2 oz of it. The curry was tasty, too sweet for me until you mix the ingredients to bring in the heat. The problem was the rice was under cooked and crunchy. Basically inedible. The server and manager was great and replaced it. The replacement didn't taste as good as the first dish, but the rice was better. Man, that burger really was dissatisfying. My friend is a True Food Kitchen fan and was excited we were getting one here in Tucson, so we enjoyed a friends night out here for an early dinner. We had a reservation, but were a bit taken aback when they seated us outside. Take note of that because you will want to designate indoor if that is important when reserving. It was freezing, and we were not really dressed for an outdoor dinner. While they do have heat lamps, they sat us at a table right in the corner where the heat lamps do not point directly. They assured us that it gets toasty (it never really did) but they did provide blankets which was nice. Our server was super sweet and took great care of us. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food, except for me. My husband got the steak entrée an the rice they served with it was to die for! My friends got their usual's (being regulars up in Phoenix) - Original Burger, Brussels, Charred Cauliflower, Soup... and I did inhale the Brussel Sprouts appetizer we got which was SO good. As for my food...I ordered the Margherita Pizza because I am obsessed with that pizza. I almost got the Chix Sandwich... but went with that pizza. It was super dry/crunchy, not warm (like it had been sitting waiting for other items) and was like cardboard. Everyone tasted it and agreed so I was not being overly sensitive due to being cold. If you're looking for a healthier/lighter option at La Encantada, True Food Kitchen is a solid choice. The space is bright and beautiful so good for a nice brunch or dinner. Since it's still new in the area, recommend reservations as it gets busy, but if you have a smaller group, you can grab a seat at the bar where they also serve the full menu. We've been twice since it's opening a few weeks ago and have left satisfied overall (once for lunch and once for dinner). The menu features seasonal items as well as tasty cocktails/mocktails (I enjoyed the lemon lime spritzer and the dazzling eyes). For lunch, my husband and I shared the Tuscan kale salad (added salmon) and the Southwest bison sausage pizza. The salad is so good - the acidity of the lemon goes well with the garlic and salt and the salad felt light overall; the salmon was cooked perfectly. The pizza was pretty good if you're looking for a bit of spice and something just a tad heavier. For dinner, our group of 4 followed the recommendations of the server to get the edamame dumplings to start and were glad we followed her advice because they were tasty (good umami flavor). I had the grilled salmon entree (again cooked perfectly), but wasn't too impressed with the brussel sprouts and the fingerling potatoes (subbed for the rice pilaf). 2 in our group enjoyed the OG burger which came with the same kale salad mentioned above on the side. My mom had the Korean noodle bowl which she thought was okay but a bit on the salty side. Actual rating is 3.5 stars so I'm rounding up here. Came here for date night with my husband on a Friday. Made a reservation for 5 pm and we were seated immediately upon arrival. The space is kind of compact; initially I wasn't a fan of where we were seated but after my trip to the restroom my mind was changed. We were seated kind of in a back area, which was actually the most private and intimate. There's a main hallway lined with tables with views of the kitchen but as the main thoroughfare it's quite busy. There's also a bar and outdoor seating. It's new, clean, modern, very aesthetically pleasing. One thing my husband and I both found odd though were the numerous photos of dr Andrew Weil--I know it's his restaurant but I don't know, it was just a little odd and slightly self-obsessed? Our server was very attentive, although I wasn't a fan of being asked if I wanted dessert as I was still eating my entree. But overall service was good. We were there for happy hour and I got a pineapple spritzer. I wished it had more pineapple juice--it was a little bland. Still refreshing, but kind of like a bubly. My husband got a whisky cocktail and enjoyed it. We got one of their $4 bites--the crispy cucumbers-- and they're not kidding when they call it a bite. It was literally one small cucumber cut up. It was tasty for sure, but pretty shocking how small it was. It also didn't make any sense that our server brought plates over for this food item. It was served in a ramekin type of thing, and so small. For my main I went with the steak and it was delicious. I asked for it to be cooked well done and they did it perfectly. Cooked it all the way through but still allowing it to be so tender and juicy. The black rice and the Peruvian pepper sauce that came with the steak were absolutely delicious. I do wish the steak had been a bit more seasoned. My husband got the chicken sandwich and subbed potatoes for the salad. He liked it fine, but the potatoes were pretty inconsistent in terms of temperature: some warm, some tepid, and some ice cold. We had also been told that their pizza oven wasn't working and witnessed a table of patrons get up and leave after receiving that news. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and had a good time checking out a new place and eating healthy food. With that in mind, it seems like they are still working out all the kinks of being newly opened. That and the price pint being fairly high would make this more of a special occasion type of place. read more

Great food and friendly service. True Food is just what La Encantada Mall needed. There are so many good options on the menu and it was nice to see vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options clearly marked. I first tried the butternut squash pizza in Scottsdale and was so impressed. We got it again here and it was just as I remembered. The almond ricotta is phenomenal and the sage and butternet complement each other so well. I also ordered the brussel sprouts. I have to say that it was a little disappointing. It was drenched in soy sauce and sooo salty. For a whole foods restaurant, I was really expecting the veggies to be the highlight. The service was extra friendly. All the staff went out of their way to greet us and make sure we were taken care of. It definitely stood out to me and made for a good experience. The ambience is cozy with an organic contemporary feel. They also have a small, but nice patio with plenty of heaters. I will definitely be back for their vegan pizzas. We met friends for dinner last night and had a delightful time. We were glad we had reservations because it was busy; and we were seated right on time! Our server, Desiree was knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. I had the pesto pasta with chicken. The pumpkin seed pesto was delicious and the fresh tiny sweet peppers brought it all together. My husband had the spicy Panang curry bowl with chicken and our friend had the same entree with shrimp. Both enjoyed their choices. Finally our other friend had the smoked Gouda turkey burger with seasonal veggies. She wasn't going to eat the entree but it was so delicious she did! We also enjoyed the fresh sparkling waters (pomegranate and grapefruit) and both were light and complimented our meal. Our friends enjoyed the green and black teas. The restaurant is comfortable and welcoming. We enjoyed sitting outside as they have outdoor heaters and shades that protect from the cooler evening air. This is also a great restaurant to enjoy good conversations as the volume level is average. There are so many entrees I want to try so will be back soon. We made a reservation for a Monday night, and although the place was super busy, we were promptly seated upon arrival. Our server came over right away and offered to answer any questions about the menu. We love that there are so many gluten free and vegan options. When drinks arrived, we ordered the charred cauliflower appetizer to share and our entrees. The appetizer came out first was perfectly sized for two, and we really enjoyed the date, tahini, dill and mint flavors. For entrees, I selected the sustainable salmon, and my partner ordered the rainbow trout with quinoa. The portion of salmon was just right, and it was cooked well. I liked the slight acidity of the accompanying pomegranate sauce. My partner enjoyed his trout. Friends joined us for dessert, and we each got something different so we could sample several. My favorite was chocolate pot de creme, which was silky in texture and tasted very rich. I also liked turtle sundae. I couldn't personally try the carrot cake or apple crumble because they're not gluten free, but the others in our party spoke highly of them too. Service was spot on throughout the evening. The pacing of our meal was good, and our server checked on us frequently without being overbearing. The restaurant itself is clean and modern, and there is ample patio seating, some of which has a city view. Very nice as the sun set. We'll be back. read more

We went for the soft opening on Saturday and the food was amazing, along with the service. There was one hiccup and that was not their fault, the fire alarm went off right as we were being seated, but they all handled it very well. We wanted the brunch tower but it was not available for the soft opening, which was a bummer, but they made up for it with the food. I had the breakfast sandwich and it was so delicious, it had eggs, cheese, avocado, and bison sausage (they told me it was sweet and savory) it was amazing. I really don't prefer sweet sausage but I tried it and it was really good. My mom had the quiche and that was also amazing. It had smoked Gouda, hatch chilies and then topped with pickled jalapeños and I can't remember the greens but so good. We also had the apple coffee cake and the most amazing ricotta lemon blueberry muffin I have ever had. read more

I tried out True food kitchen tonight. First thought was that it's a pretty nice place and good atmosphere. Looking and the menu showed that there were a good number of vegan options. That was nice to see. The thing that I saw on the menu that bothered me was this. With something like the double cheeseburger (plant based), it came with the choice of two different types of salad. If you want a different side though, that's where I wasn't very happy. If you want to substitute the side salad with steamed vegetables, you're looking at an extra 6 dollars. The burger itself is 20 dollars to start. These things didn't sit well with me, but after tasting the burger and the appetizer of brussel sprouts, I could see why things costed a bit more than I liked to see. The food was amazing. The flavor they were able to get into these simple dishes was something you don't see very often. I can see going back to this place for sure. I did expect it to come wrapped in lettuce, but it came just with the lettuce leaf on top. That did not deter from the fabulous taste of the sandwich! It was great! The kale salad side was also very good. It had an unique lemon flavor and almost an air fried texture. My husband had the OG Grass-Fed burger with roasted potatoes. He said both were delicious. Yet ANOTHER excellent True Food experience in the bag! I was there for a 1230 reservation on Friday and the young ladies at the front, looking quite sharp in their new "uniforms", promptly sat me inside. When I felt like it was just a bit too loud for soft conversation, there were some large groups in the area, they moved me outside, pulled down the shades and did the whole thing with a smile. And then they let me know that if it got too hot, they would accommodate me in some other way. Having a background in restaurant, I really try to not be "that person" who complicates things, but that being said, it also gives me an educated perspective on how things should be handled. And the True Food staff have customer service on lockdown. Our server, Mo, was an absolute delight. Wildly patient with us talking to each other more than looking at the menu. Checked in on us regularly without hovering. And then explained that with me being a celiac, my dish would be delivered by a manager or a chef. The latter brought my meal And was simply charming. We enjoyed the pomegranate and pineapple spritzers too. Very refreshing! My friend had the ancient grains bowl and I had the teriyaki bowl, both with the air fried crispy chicken and both were delicious. Which was evidenced by our absolutely empty plates lol I go to True Food every time I'm up in that area and this is why. I have a concern. This is my favorite restaurant and I'm nearly a weekly patron... On my most recent visit, I was facing the kitchen and I saw an oil being poured that I need more information about. The ingredient being used, I saw the restaurant/industrial size container of "Pure Avocado Oil BLEND." There is 100% certainty in that being what I saw, but now I need to know the brand and ingredients because "blend" is concerning and I hope I'm wrong. Blend could mean all kinds of things including all the usual seed oil suspects. Please straighten this out by providing the brand of the Avocado Oil Blend and a picture of the ingredient deck. There are things I like about true foods, and then there are things that I just cannot get behind which is mainly their pricing. The first time I went, I had a glass noodle bowl which was vegan, I didn't add anything extra to it and it was $18. I had one glass of sparkling rosé and that was $15. The noodles were bland and flavorless unfortunately, and loaded with way too much cilantro. The second time I went I had their burger. It was expensive but better than the noodles. We had to ask for pickles, and mine only came with two very small pieces of tomato which was disappointing for the price. the service was great both times, the servers were attentive and friendly and knowledgeable. read more

The name sounds a little bland, but the food is anything but! Absolutely delicious! The sangría was the most flavorful and fresh I've ever had! We ordered blueberry pancakes and some kind of breakfast hash and it was bursting with flavor and not too heavy. Everything was wonderful and the service matched.
