Met up with a friend for a late lunch who recommended True Texas BBQ. I don't know why I haven't tried it as it's near an HEB I frequent. I guess I just beeline for groceries and leave. I wasn't sure if I wanted to order just meat on the side and a side order so my friend suggested getting the Loaded Brisket Potato. That sounded perfect. Chuck was our cashier and server. He was fidgeting with the cash register as it had been down from an IT glitch and had to re-input the menu items. I asked if the brisket used in the Loaded Potato is different from the Prime Brisket? He said it was the same meat. I wanted to order the Potato to taste then decide if I wanted to buy a pound. My friend also ordered a Loaded Brisket Potato with Green Onions and a side of Fried Green Beans. I also got a Watermelon Iced Tea which Chuck recommended. The Iced Tea was a little sweet for me so I mixed it with regular Iced Tea but I could definitely taste the Watermelon essence. My brisket seemed salty and heavily seasoned and looked like I was given "Burnt Ends". My friend had more tender cuts. I think my potato could've used more Sour Cream and the potato could've been cooked longer where it's steamy and soft. My meal seamed dry as the only other ingredient was the cheese. My friend noted that her HEB True Texas BBQ had more flavorful meat. Guess I'll have to try another location. The Green Beans were crunchy but too greasy for me. Chuck was attentive and helpful. He served our entrees and brought other customer's entrees to their table. I liked the little toothpicks in a True Texas BBQ package by the condiments. On Sunday, went to have a barbecue here at the H-E-B barbecue place. Placed order online at the Kiosk at the entrance and checked in with the counter. Then we went and got a seat. Waited for our number/name to be called. There were two people behind the counter, both on their personal cell phones. There were tables around us that needed to be wiped down. Our number/name was called in a reasonable time. Upon receipt of the food it left a little to be desired for presentation. The meats were not very warm however they were warm. The food tasted good. When I went to get sweet tea or peach tea both were out. I went up to the counter informed the people that were both still on the personal cell phones. I went and sat down. The personnel did respond immediately to both teas being out and filled them. The ambience in the restaurant was very good. I did notice at the table next to me. There was a couple talking about several of the items I just mentioned. I just expected a little bit better from H-E-B. But this is twice now that I have been sort of disappointed with HEB's true Texas barbecue. Hope that H-E-B reads this and tries to do something about it. If the staff would pay a little bit more attention to detail of the restaurant, and the needs of the patrons, I think this would help out immensely. read more

I put in a large order for (2) 24 person party packages. I put the order in on a Thursday for a Saturday 1pm pickup and when I went to pick up, they had ran out of one of my sides (mac & cheese) and asked me to wait while they made more. I waited for 30 minutes for a side dish that honestly went to waste at my event. For the wait I was given one bowl of banana pudding--which was more popular than the Mac & cheese. Im upset that they didn't prioritize my prepaid order. But they were apologetic and tried their best to reconcile the issue. I would order from them again. It's definitely a great stop in and grab dinner spot. My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich. read more

Well well well what a hill country gem this true tx bbq is...first off customer service was the best I have ever had. Chuck took great care of our for our purchase and kept checking on us bring us boxes too. John also took great care of us when we were short tenders and subbing turkey. He checked on us too and was great too. The entire staff was so pleasant and happy. Now to the food, this was the first location we've been to with chicken tenders and man, they are delicious! The el jefe sandwich is huge but so delicious, that Cole slaw contrasting with the meats makes this sandwich. The brisket nachos are crave worthy along with the potato salad. The kids devoured the Mac and cheese. We will definitely be back for good food with a good vibe! This is our new go to bbq spot! read more

Been there done that, one time they are great, the next horrible and nobody seems to care. Out of tea, tables dirty, employees absent. It's a hit or a miss. I'll drive to Smokey Moe's, Rudy's or Blacks. The Website is not hit or miss just HORRIBLE. TrueTexasBBQ takes you to HEB. If you use the location button it's game over. Too bad, it's nice to able to stop a get something quick if your shopping. read more

I've only tried the chicken strips with the honey bbq (which I do recommend trying just because of that). The cole slaw was pretty good as well. When this place opened a few months back, it quickly became a favorite of my son and I. The last 3 times that we have eaten there the food has been subpar-very. Order lean brisket and you get fat, order burnt ends and you get fat ends, order pork ribs, you get fat on a bone. We typically order to go, so you never know what you'll get until you get home. The restaurant is clean and has a nice atmosphere, the food comes out promptly, overall great service/people. The BBQ is pricey for grocery store food. I'm going to give it one more shot, before I try something else. I'm not interested in paying for great seasoned blubber lol. read more

To start the menu is misleading. Has a price for 1,2, or 3 meats and sides. I ordered 2 meats and cashier said comes with 2 sides, so I order 2 sides. The menu price for 2 meats is not the price for 2 meats and 2 sides. First the price for 2 meats depends on which meats you get. Then the 2 sides are extra, not part of the menu price. I was just going to get one side but cashier says you get 2. I paid $3.25 for each side. Hot potato salad and Cole slaw which were both gross. I only went there because I was going to shop to heb. Calling out True Texas BBQ (the HEB Barbecue) - went there Tuesday evening after a grocery trip at HEB. Put in an order for the family meal (pound of brisket and turkey). About 10 minutes after ordering, the employee notified me that they were out of lean brisket (which I ordered) so I agreed to take fatty brisket. I asked if they would please trim the excess fat cap and only charge me for the pound of fat-free brisket. The employee told me they couldn't do that. Instead of arguing with him, I just asked for my money back so I could go to Smokey Mo's instead. He had no knowledge of how to process a refund. Waited 5 minutes (already been waiting 10 minutes to hear they were out of lean brisket) for this guy to press random buttons on the register before admitting defeat. He calls a manager from the main HEB store. She shows up - she doesn't know how to process a refund. She calls another manager - she doesn't know. After 4 different HEB employees get called over and 30 minutes after placing my order - I finally get my refund. I WILL NEVER GO BACK to this abomination of a Texas Barbecue restaurant. It's a shame they won't fail since HEB will just prop them up, but maybe they will either improve or continue down their current path and become the laughing stock of Texas Barbecue! P.S. - Called ahead to Smokey Mo's to put in my order. It was ready 3 minutes after getting there and told the staff about my experience at True Texas. They were floored. They said EVERY barbecue place would have honored my request to trim the fat if they were out of lean. Also, paid about 10% less. read more

Great service and great food! The brisket was amazing and the mac and cheese was perfect! I would recommend True Texas BBQ to anyone!

I don't often leave reviews but I couldn't help myself after picking up food at True Texas BBQ tonight! First- I am so excited to have another delicious and affordable food option in Spring Branch! Second- I love that they have a curbside option! They were so quick and the food was piping hot! My family of 5 ate for less than $50 and my mind is blown. The kids plates were such generous portions! The loaded brisket baked potato was amazing! My sister told me she's eaten there 3x times this week and everything has been delicious! Thank you HEB for bringing this to our area, and thank you True Texas BBQ for the incredible food and service! Our family will be regulars! read more
