Turned out it was someone's home. Evidently they can be hired for catering. This is NOT a sit-down restaurant.

Ladd was very friendly and kind, even though he was struggling at the register tallying up our order, he even offered to give us a tour of the back of the restaurant. I'd earmarked Old 300 as the place in Blanco, to go up against the others. We arrived on a Monday about 1:20p. After lunch hour, and the place was packed. (that's an indicator right there. One of the slowest days for restaurants during the week, and not at peak meal time.) The line went quick. They have what's listed as a "BBQ Sandwich" - it's a blend of chopped brisket and chopped pulled pork (not in long, stringy strands) together. We were going to hit other towns & sandwiches, so for the two of us we just ordered one sandwich and a side of potato salad. We got it to-go. Sat at an empty table. Got ourselves fixins - some doctored up onions (sliced, seems like they sauté them a little in butter and then top w fresh cracked black pepper), pickles, and both their Sweet and their Spicy sauces. They brought it out quickly, less than 5 min. We opted to just eat it there instead of take it to the next town. We topped with pickles, onions, and the Sweet sauce. Oh my freakin' sweet Lord! In this small Texas town with an unassuming spot a block and a half off the main road going through town, easily one of the top 5 bbq sandwiches of all time - no joke! To break it down, we tasted all items individually. The onions are delectable - softened from the sauté, good moisture from the butter, delicious. The Sweet sauce is crazy good. A fantastic balance of sweet, tang, & slight bite. I've never said this before but it's true - told my daughter, "I could just sit here and dip these pickles in this sauce for the next 30 minutes and be completely satisfied." The sauce, yes, is that good. Daughter is not a heat/spice lover, but she did try the Spicy sauce and we both thought it was definitely tame as far as heat goes. We both thought the Spicy sauce was okay. The Sweet sauce, though, stellar! We were overwhelmed by how good it all was. When we got to the car, I said, "All the ingredients together was like a symphony." Next time I visit her, am absolutely gonna suggest another drive out to Blanco specifically, to try some other items on the menu. But I can say this, for the BBQ Sandwich, pickles, doctored onions, and Sweet sauce alone, Old 300 is worth a generous drive and you will 100 percent be happy as a lark. Thanks for fantastic meal, Old 300. Will most definitely be back.

Well, there's another one called "City Market" that skipped right past me. Or, no one thought to tell me. It's one or the other because this place is pretty popular with lines out the door! So I heard about City Market BBQ, the same day I drove to Luling, Texas! It's an hour outside of Austin. City Market is in the downtown area, and parking was a breeze; the line I saw on the sidewalk coming from City Market, I must admit, was long, but it was a breeze, too. Now, this is on Wednesday, not the weekend. I hopped in line, the line moving fast. People are friendly, telling me that once I'm inside, there's another door I will go into to place my order. I like to call this the secret door with all the good smells of smoky barbecue. Check out my pictures of the secret door; you can't even see inside. I'm there, I made it inside, and there's 3 of the most friendly older gentlemen I will ever meet in my life. One of them caught on that I haven't been in a kitchen, never in my life, when he started asking if I wanted 1/4 of brisket. I whispered, "Give me three or four, because I'm not good at math either." Oh, we had a great laugh! I sat down, picked on a rib, and the meat slid from the bone! It was so tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The skin had the right burnt in the right spots. The meat was moist and easy to chew. I was like the Flintstones cleaning the bones before I bit into my sausage and brisket. The sausage was very good, and my brisket was smoky, like my ribs. I have to brag about the sauce. It came in a skinny bottle. It was a new flavor for me; it wasn't spicy, but it had a nice heat to it that I loved! I'm so happy I chose to ride down to Luling to visit City Market as soon as I heard about this BBQ place. I would have been so mad at myself if I had waited and forgotten!

The meat was seasoned well, but the brisket was a little dry. The barbecue sauce it's pretty good. They give you pickles when you order your meat and they have an option of dill pickle versus sweet pickles. I liked both. The meat and the sides are ordered in different locations. The sides are ordered at the counter as soon as you walk in. The potato salad was very good with enough mustard, but not so much that's it's overwhelming. The Beans had good flavor as well. We did try the banana pudding and that wasn't great. Everyone is super friendly. They have plenty of seating inside. Parking is street parking and you may have to walk depending how busy the area is.

Lots of family memories here. Our daughter found this BBQ and wanted to try it out. We drove up & it's not fancy but the smell of delicious BBQ hit us as we got out of the car so we knew it was promising! We pored over the menu and I decided on a sausage sandwich with Mac 'n Cheese. You order at the counter and food is brought out. The rustic interior was clean and we easily found a table. It wasn't too long before we all received our meals. We all agreed this was great BBQ! My sausage had a bit of heat but it was tasty! The Mac 'n Cheese was rich & savory. We loved the BBQ sauce. Our grandson claimed his chicken strips & fries were the best he ever had & this kid does not lie! Everything was so good! As we were leaving I spoke to one of the owners to let him know we really enjoyed the BBQ & asked if I could take a photo. He said Tracy was in the back & I asked if she could also pose for a snapshot. They sweetly obliged me. I told him we were from CA but hubby's parents used to live in Canyon Lake. They gave me some free stickers to share. Great BBQ, friendly staff, and welcoming owners! What's not to love?

Very rustic country location and once inside you know you are in a Texas country BBQ. Staff was friendly and helpful choosing our food. They suggested going with the family portions to share which was perfect. For 3 people we ordered 1/2 lb each of lean brisket (moist also available), turkey, and garlic sausage. For sides we went with coleslaw and charro beans. Way too much food for us, but perfect for a large leftover plate. Consensus of all three of us was: -Brisket had a perfect blackened crust, with a good red smoke ring. Very little fat and still very moist meat. 7 of 5 stars! -Turkey was well seasoned, very flavorful, and smoked to perfection. 6 of 5 stars! -Garlic sausage was the home run here. When we ordered they only had the garlic one left. I was hesitant to order expecting a strong garlic flavor. It was the perfect garlic hint of flavor with the amazing in-house made sausage. Outer skin had a snap when you bit into it and the flavor of the sausage is a melody of bbq flavor that overwhelms the taste buds. 10 of 5 stars! -Coleslaw was vinegary with some fresh sliced red pepper and fresh jalapeños which was a good touch. 5 of 5 stars. -Charro beans were flavored to perfection. 5 of 5 stars. -And we can't forget the bbq sauce. This was the perfect pairing for the meat. Obviously house made with the perfect balance between spicey and sweetness. Wife and I both said it was the best we ever had. Blows away the sauce from our favorite bbq location here in San Antonio. Another 10 of 5 stars! Fresh squeezed lemonade for all of us and they brought us free refills. I might have to bring another stomach (or at least make a second visit) to try the dessert - cheesecake appears to be served by the 1/2 LB as well, and looks just as good as Mom's! Everything was extraordinary. Very helpful staff. Funky hole in the wall venue. Pro tip: come at opening 11:00 am on Sunday morning to avoid a wait. My favorites: tritip with pico, sausage by itself, brisket in the thin and tangy BBQ sauce, elote corn, nopales, beans. But, it was all good and you won't be sorry ordering anything on the menu. Even the complimentary onions and pickles are house made. The sausage was almost like the filling in a dim sum dumpling. The pico was some of the best I've ever tasted, which sounds ridiculous but there it is. The tritip is to die for. The brisket melts. Excellent turkey. Bring a group, order everything, and take home leftovers. Highly recommended. Best of Texas and probably beyond.
