My female friend and I decided to check out this local favorite spot during this holiday season on a weekday. The ambiance was celebratory and warm. We enjoyed our drink and were greeted at our table by a very thoughtful and friendly server who made wonderful recommendations. We decided to share a salad and three appetizers, that were all diverse for the palate. The mixed green salad was large enough to share and we thought the BBQ bone marrow paired better with the crostini from the Baked Brie appetizer... so far, so good... We ordered the Rack of Lamb, which we ordered medium rare as suggested, but it came VERY rare... We requested that it be taken back for further cooking, but unfortunately, it came back still too rare, and with not much flavor profile. We finished with a wonderful trio of sorbet and ice cream. The staff and management were friendly, the ambience was fantastic, and food was fantastic, except for the entree we ordered....Hence the 3 -star rating. I had an absolute incredible experience here for brunch! We were in town visiting family for the weekend. They live locally and go to Trummer's frequently. We went for brunch on a Saturday morning. There were 9 of us in the group. The service was amazing and everyone was very helpful. We all started with different cocktails. I got the mimosa and loved the fact that it was made with fresh squeezed orange juice. A couple people from the group got the Pain and Pleasure drink which had a jalapeno ice cube in it. As the ice cub melted, the drink became spicier! We split a few appetizers for the table to nosh on. The house made pastry basket is a must try. The blueberry muffins are made with real buttermilk and just melted in your mouth. The truffle fries were also very good! I chose the short rib hash. I'm drooling right now thinking about how good it was! Everyone loved their dishes and I don't think you could make a bad selection. I would 100% recommend Trummer's. Whether you are local or in town for the weekend, you need to try it out. There is easy parking in the back lot and they do take reservations. We celebrated an important occasion here with my special someone recently and was truly amazed by the unique dishes that we had. It was a weeknight and the restaurant was busier than usual because they were hosting two parties (one is a wedding) at the same time. It took a little while for our food to get served but it was forgivable. The starters we had were all delicious, espeically the Roasted Thumbelina Carrot Salad and the Sunchoke Soup. For our entrees, we had Pan Roasted Salmon and Golden Tilefish, which were both glorious! For dessert, we shared a serving of ice cream over cups of coffee. We also had Austrian wine and temperanillo. Our server was amazing and quite helpful with suggesting dishes for us. One of my favorite places! I love how the menu is always changing but the quality is always top tier. Service is amazing here. Servers always go out of their way to be extra friendly and are super knowledgeable on the menu. Whenever I come I always ask what they recommend and they always give such thought out answers. The bread is crispy and seasoned kinda like a Chex mix but elevated 5/5 Scallop crudo sauce is very tangy with a kick and taste very fresh as well. Could be softer but still good. 3/5 Yeast roll is soft and fluffy and I loved the butter. So soft and easily spreadable and taste like a butter version of lemon icing on desserts which I love 4/5 Prime ribeye is soft with some bite. Good but nothing too special 3.5/5 Boursin cavatelli is like a gnocchi with extremely soft flavorful beef and sauce 5/5 Strawberry & cream beignet is actually light and fluffy even though it's fried. The cream is heavy alone but once you mix it with the bread and strawberries feels like 4/5 Ice cream is always good! I highly recommend making the trip to quaint Clifton and dining at Trummer's. My husband and I had reservations for a late lunch on Mother's Day. We were greeted warmly on arrival and enjoyed cocktails at the bar before being escorted to our table. The Mother's Day menu was a prix fixe menu of 3 courses with a variety of selections. Trummer's has an extensive wine list and we struggled selecting a bottle that would complement our entrees. I could have used some help with this. We had fish and veal for the main course and tried all 3 desserts. The food was delicious. I'm still dreaming about the mouth watering coconut cream pie. The service is what makes Trummer's outstanding. I had stepped away from the table when the entrees were presented. The owner stopped by and took time to explain my dish. Talk about great service! Trummer's would be perfect for celebrating special occasions, an intimate dinner, and everything in between. They have several dining areas including a wine room, loft dining room that's perfect for special gatherings, a light filled and airy winter garden, and outdoor patio. I'd recommend reservations and arriving early. It took us a few minutes to find parking and gave us time to enjoy cocktails at the bar. Trummer's offers good value for the quality of food and drinks, ambience, and service and there were lots of options in the wine list within various price ranges. The restaurant was beautiful and classy. Perfect for a date night or a nice dinner with friends. The service was amazing as well -- very attentive, speedy, and respectful! We came for dinner, and the food was some of the best food I'd ever had. I was impressed by the variety of food options that were offered; from different meats to salads to seafood to pasta, they really had it all. Definitely on the pricier side, but I can say with confidence that the quality was worth the money. For the appetizer, we ordered oysters. They really melted in my mouth! For entrees, we had pasta, pork, potatoes, and truffle fries. The amount was perfect to share among our group of four, and everything was perfectly seasoned. We ended the night with dessert: the chocolate tart and lemon tart. The lemon tart was my absolute favorite as the flavor was subtle, unique, and refreshing. A group of us came here for an early dinner, and we were seated in the Winter Garden area, which I loved - the high ceilings, the spaciousness, and the many windows created a nice ambiance! We had the housemade Anson Mills Blue Cornbread that came with whipped honey butter; the Hudson Valley Foie Gras Torchon (with strawberry jam, pink peppercorn, brioche, and a marcona almond crisp); a Rotisserie Chicken (with house made spatzle, cardoons, morel mushrooms, and mustard jus); a Roseda Farms Braised Short Rib (with Anson Mills polenta, watermelon radish, cipollini onion, and red wine jus); and, a Black Sea Bass (Sea Island red peas, shiitake mushrooms, thumbelina carrots, and bouillabaisse). Each items were beautifully presented and were seasoned well and flavorful. I really liked the short rib, as it was fork-tender, and the red wine jus was such a delicious complement! We couldn't pass up dessert, so we tried the Strawberry Pavlova (with Harry's berries and cardomom cream), the Coconut Milk Panna Cotta (with winter citrus, vanilla bean, and pistachio), the Milk Chocolate Tart (with torched cinnamon meringue, espresso caramel, hazelnuts, and cocoa nibs), and a trio of sorbets (satsuma-coconut, yuzu-cherry, and the huckleberry-meyer lemon) - as expected, I really loved the yuzu-cherry, because, who wouldn't?! Ambiance is serene, comfortable and appropriate for a night out. I was vibing to the alternative/indie music, it has more personality to it than your average NOVA establishment. It is in a historic home with upstairs dining area that is open with natural lighting during the daylight hours. The downstairs bar is hoping during happy hour. They have an extensive wine menu, which is one of the of the focal points of the Austrian owners. Appetizer crab dip was delicious and spicy. Husband and I opted for the short rib sandwiches with horseradish sauce, he had truffle fries and I had the mixed green salad. Short rib meat was tender but neither of us could distinguish the horseradish in the sauce. Coffee Crème Brûlée dessert perfect with a strong coffee flavor and their standard drip decaf coffee was fresh. Server was prompt, professional and all around pleasant. My amazing boyfriend brought me here to try out the menu at my request as I was looking for a place that served bone marrow near me and this place did not disappoint! Interior was absolutely beautiful. We were taken to the second floor upon arrival. I was in awe of the high ceilings, and windows which allowed ample amounts of natural sunlight to bathe the dining hall in. An added bonus was how they kept it nice and cool inside, as I'm the type to get hot very easily. For appetizers, we got the cornbread and bone marrow. Both were delicious. The cornbread was moist and the bone marrow was super rich and flavorful. For our entrees, he got the duck leg confit while I got the spring lamb cavatelli. My boyfriend DEMOLISHED his plate. Luckily, I got to try a bite of his dish before he did and it was delicious. The duck was crispy and the sauce that was paired with it had a nice, subtle sweetness. My pasta dish was good for the most part. Pasta was made fresh and the pesto sauce was tasty as well. My only gripe would be that the lamb meat in my dish lacked any seasoning. The earthiness of the stinging nettle was an interesting addition though and paired well with the lamb. For dessert, we got the sorbet trio. It was definitely a great way to end the meal as it was deliciously light and refreshing. I don't frequent American food restaurants all that often as I prefer my native Asian cuisine, but I would absolutely love to come back here to try out their other dishes! read more

Good: ambiance and charm of the old converted home with pleasant and cheerful wait staff (though not always attentive). The rest all Bad: extremely loud so conversation difficult, super high price fix for Thanksgiving dinner ($90 + tax + tip that did NOT include even ice tea). The kale caesar salad was awful (no flavor/spices), small dry square (1 apiece for 2 people) of cornbread. Huge platters (dominated our small table) with tiny portions of meat (we selected turkey and pork). Only 2 slices of pork. The turkey white meat dry as a bone, dark meat a bit better. Cranberry relish was sour (transferring that taste to the food on our plates). How can you ruin cornbread? Put unflavorful dry pretzels combined with lack of adequate moisture rendering them so tough and chewy even the gravy couldn't make a dent. Mashed potatoes and green beans were just fine. Tiny pumpkin pie OK, tiny s'more square also dry and overly sweet. We had to ask for dining plates when our table was inundated with multiple "sharing" bowls and the server walked away saying enjoy. For the super high price, the meat portions were tiny. A turkey dinner is one of the cheapest meals to prepare and all I can say is that this establishment reaped beaucoup profit. I'm probably being generous with 3 stars. Sadly this was my first visit and I see no reason to return. read more

Really impressive wine list and btg selections--particularly for this area. Even the stemware was on point! The cocktails were also very attractive--at least from looking at the components. Trummers clearly puts a lot of attention into their beverage program and takes pride in that aspect without making it seem snooty and inaccessible. RARE! Atmosphere: Nice spacious dining areas with a pretty large bar area as well. Vibrant and full for Halloween weekend but not the least bit loud or cramped. No feeling of them trying to force a "vibe" or concept. Service: Solid without being in your face. Food: All very good with generous portions. The schnitzel was great and the crispy skin trout was also very nice. Our bone marrow app needed more bread to accompany and maybe they should have "pre-shucked" the marrow to make it a bit easier to get out for the uninitiated. Beyond that, my only real complaint was that in every dish, I was left wanting a bit more salt and acid. This was definitely the case for the rich dishes like the marrow and schnitzel...which honestly fell flat in the mouth. I know many places had growing pains post-COVID, but if, like many unhappy reviewers seem to bemoan, Trummers was significantly BETTER ....holy shit. I regret not making it here sooner!!! read more

The bar staff have always crafted excellent cocktails, and the Main Street doesn't disappoint. It's delicious, and delivered with expert eye appeal. Trummer's USED to have a very large list of cocktails, but it's now been slimmed down to just a handful of options. Obviously they can craft anything you desire, but having the list was always a smart move...no more. The Sommelier, Nicole, if she is still there, has consistently curated a well balanced, and priced wine list, and our Italian Tuscan was stellar. The appetizer salad was perfect, but the surprise was the fish collar. Spectacular. For our mains, we had the duck breast and Korean short rib. The duck breast was the winner. Simply perfect. The Short rib was perfectly cooked, but a touch too sweet for our tastes. Most of the dishes seemed to have a slightly sweeter presentation than expected. Not a knock in any sense. Most people will like the new Chef's vision. Be warned, if you do opt for a side dish, say fingerling potato...it's a very large portion. Those are some chunky fingerlings, lol. While it could be Covid related, when you finish an entree, or rather when you don't finish the entire plate, and they ask if you'd like the remainder boxed, you don't expect them to bring a box to your table for the customer to package up the remains. At this price point, patrons expect, and deserve, a finish with a little more class. That was a faux pas. If you had never been here in the past, you'd be perfectly happy with the quality of the drinks and food. They are spectacular. I have been wanting to try Trummer's On Main for a long time and finally went for Sunday dinner. It's a pre fixe menu, 4 courses, you get to choose your main dish. $42 per person. It was alright, I was hoping for better. Specialty cocktail: Titanic - a fun vokda and elderberry drink with frozen processco. That way it stays cold and doesn't get diluted. Delicious Starter: Clam chowder and hush puppies. I loved that the clam chowder was smoky and had a bite, usually I find chowders to be too rich and one dimensional. The hush puppies were super dense and I think almost burnt, wasn't great. Salad: Basic salad greens, shaved squash with light dressing. Again, could've been so much more. Main: Pork belly with green beans, corn puree, and pickled green tomatoes. The pickled green tomatoes were a great complement to the rich pork belly. The pork belly had a great crunchy skin. The grilled beans were more like blackened beans, way too burnt for my liking. Dessert: Menu said fudge brownie sundae. The brownie was more like chocolate cake - when I read brownie, I want dense and chewy/fudgey brownies, it was not, therefore I was disappointed. The atmosphere was great. The service was wonderful. Make sure you reserve in advance! Food and service were both great, nothing really to complain about. Hubs ordered the halibut stew and I ordered the short ribs, and they were both really great! My Korean short ribs had a strong punch of flavor, and the meat was super tender!! Hubs said it may have been the best short ribs he has ever had, even surpassing actual authentic Korean galbijjim. My favorite however, has to be our dessert-- the milk chocolate tart. It has candied hazelnuts and a torched marshmallow on top of a milk chocolate tart. It was dense, rich, and so so good!! Service really ruined our experience at the restaurant. Our party arrived as the first diners in the establishment on a Thursday night, and we had the tattoos service waiter. Upon arrival we had one more person than was listed on the reservation and could overhear him trash talking our party's need to accommodate pushing two tables together. The place was close to empty the entire time we were at the restaurant, there were only two or three other couples, but the same server was inattentive and made it seem like our drink and food orders were a chore for him. Our order didn't come out with the requested sides. The food was okay and some menu pairings were questionable. The restaurant ambiance and atmosphere was nice and quiet but the service was just so unexpected for a place that generally had stellar reviews, especially since we were dining at a time when there wasn't a lot of traffic. Hot tip to the restaurant- the kitchen is close to the tables and you can be overheard in such a quiet place so try to be nice if you have to say anything at all. Unfortunate experience to offend an entire party for a place I had heard was a must try. read more

We celebrated my 50th Birthday at Trummer's. Beautiful place! Victoria Trummer is an excellent host. She met with us and offered so many options. She even added a customized vegetarian entree to accommodate some of our guests. We got everything we wanted plus more. They offer party halls for different sizes of parties. Ours was in Gallery Dining room and we were 25 of us. It was perfect, where we had space for games and it was intimate and isolated enough from the rest of the restaurant. The drinks and food were excellent. The signature Titanic Cocktail was the most amazing drink I ever had. The appetizers were delicious and perfect bite size portions. The salad, chestnut soup, salmon with risotto, roast chicken, and the desserts were very delicious. The service was superb. Justin our server was very courteous and attentive and accommodating. This was our first visit to Trummer's, but definitely won't be our last. Both the service and our meals were outstanding. We were able to reserve a table outside on the porch, which is important for us during the long, drawn-out days of Covid. The wait staff checked on us frequently, and was helpful answering our questions. I we ordered salads, I ordered the Korean short ribs and T ordered the chicken. We also decided to get the two side dishes, greens and roasted potatoes, to share. It was a lot of food! Everything was delicious, and we had leftovers to take home. This was my first visit to this cozy and quant little restaurant in Clifton, VA. It has been on my restaurant "wish list" for a long time and I was excited to finally get here! We booked here for a special occasion for my husbands birthday. Everyone was very pleasurable and courteous but I must note that the service was extremely slow. And the regular patrons received premier service over us and other patrons. We were seated before this "favorite" couple next to our table and our drinks were ordered way before they were even seated or present. And their drinks and water were served immediately while we sat there 10 -15 minutes longer still waiting for our cocktails and water that were ordered prior to them even arriving to the restaurant. My husband and I both wanted the Wagyu Filet but only one was left in the restaurant so I had to order something else. I ordered the Tagliatelle with the beef cheek which was not very appetizing and upset my stomach. Then I ordered a second cocktail and after waiting 15 + minutes I told our server to please cancel it. So we decided to order dessert. We ordered the creme brûlée and the profiteroles aka the donuts 10-15 minutes before the "favorite" couple at the table next to us who ordered the same dessert way after we had ordered our exact same desserts and we were already waiting 10-15 minutes before that couple even ordered their dessert. Their desserts came out immediately which had to have been our desserts! We were still waiting for our desserts 15 minutes more and by the time our desserts had come to the table our cappuccinos were cold. And then after we had eaten and finished some of our desserts the server brought out a Happy Birthday plate with some cake bites way after we had finished our desserts. The timing was so off and that platter with cake bites should have come out with the cappuccino. At this point in time the restaurant was cleared out so I really don't understand why everything was so slow. We were one of the last tables to leave the restaurant due to the extremely slow service. I can tell you that we were first time diners and will be last time diners. The service was only good for the "favorite" patrons of the restaurant. Also the restaurant was extremely hot in the dining room as it was full and really required air conditioning. I had to step outside to get air as the extremely long waiting for all of our food and drinks and dessert was too long and I felt like I was going to pass out. Even after going outside and going to the restroom our desserts were still not even at our table. I wanted to share this information as I honestly felt that for the price we paid for our meal almost $300 was not worth it for the slow service and how only the favorite patrons received the best service and even our dessert order while we waited almost 30 minutes for our dessert. I really wanted to cancel the dessert but our server was no where to be found. Save your money and go somewhere else. I wish we had gone back to Capital Grill instead as the filet and drinks and service is what you expect for a $300 dining experience. We wanted to try here as we heard good things from others but wish I had read the Yelp reviews first. We didn't complain in the restaurant as it was my husband birthday but I wrote a similar worded review but with some more detail to the management of Trummers so they know they have issues. Hope they care because I've read similar reviews tonight about this establishment and wish I read Yelp first. We won't be going back. read more

What a happy little accident this turned out to be! When we couldn't get in to any of the nearby wineries, we decided to check out the cute little place we saw in Clifton! My friend and I both agreed that it was far better than any of the wineries could have possibly been! We started out with a glass of wine at the bar while waiting for our table. The ambiance was lovely and the service warm and friendly! After we were seated we each had one of their signature cocktails, the Titanic. Absolutely one of the best cocktails I have ever had. Period. Refreshing, light, DELICIOUS!!! We had a late lunch so decided to just have the charcuterie and the baked brie this time but they were both wonderful! I will mention service again because it was truly impeccable! Everyone was so kind, warm, and welcoming. My friend then ordered the Pain & Pleasure and I had the Poptail! So. Much. FUN! Cocktail hour was off the charts! Then we split an order of the pumpkin cheesecake. I will say we went 0 - 60 on this in no time flat! It was DIVINE!!! TRULY! And the candied pepitas on top were such a surprising and delicious touch! We are already making plans to return for full-fledged dinner. The ambiance in the entire place is just lovely. read more

Came from out of town for a rehearsal dinner and loved everything about Trummer's! Tucked away a few miles off the beaten path, we were in a garden-house-like room with windows covering the walls and high ceilings. A deck area came off the back where it overlooking a garden area. The main course was the well-known short-ribs over polenta with oyster mushrooms which I adored. The chicken option was not as appetizing from the little I tried, as it was overly-salted. The burnt cheesecake was phenomenal and was a great end to the night. Wine and beer selection was expansive and service was prompt whether it be for water or wine! read more
