We've been planning to go to dinner here for a long time but finally managed to get there last night! One amazing restaurant with superb and very attentive service and great food in a café like urban setting. We ordered a variety of dishes and each was presented well, and flavorful. We loved the welcoming staff who seemed attentive at every table they served. We found the food a bit salty, so if you are watching your salt intake then stay off the soupy dishes. Parking anywhere in the area is tough, but we were lucky to find a vacated spot a few yards up the road.

This place always delivers. We have been for brunch and dinner and the food and service is always excellent. You have to get some of the dishes that are cooked on an open flame. The carrots were creatively prepared and tasty with a kick of spice. The grilled octopus is usually better. It had limited char and was kind of bland. The char sui brisket was tender and tasty and the gnocchi was excellent with its light sauce and many ingredients like snap peas and pancetta.

Came here for Mother's Day brunch and had a nice experience. They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar. We were seated inside with a view of the kitchen. Service: Our server was friendly and attentive. Food: we ordered the stuffed French toast, baked eggs and simple breakfast. The French toast was not actually stuffed, as I expected, but topped with apples and toppings. It was a think piece of brioche bread and the dish was tasty and not too sweet. I was disappointed in the baked eggs, as I really didn't get much egg out of it. I shared it with my husband and while it did have a lot of flavors, it was overwhelmingly chickpeas and tomato sauce for me. The sourdough bread was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. We ordered the simple breakfast with bacon for our son because they don't have a kids menu and it was perfect for him. I do with we ordered the ultimate sticky bun, which is their speciality, but will have to try that another time. Parking is a real challenge as there is only street parking. There was also a Sunday farmers market going on, which likely contributed.

It's been five years and the food still tastes great. The burgers (which is what drew us) and Mac and cheese with bone marrow and truffle butter was amazing. 8 of us came here for Juneteenth, some from LA) It was a great day to celebrate. Outside seating was very nice on the large patio. However, there was a big concern but since it's Juneteenth we don't discuss those with company present. Please contact me directly to discuss in private.

Our little tradition...... Donating blood, then some breakfast. We tried something different too. The hubby had the fried rice breakfast & I had the moroccan sauce baked eggs. Very yummy. Great service & vibes. #DiningWithTheAndersons #SavingLivesWithTheHubby #MichelinGuideRestaurant #SanDiegoLiving

Stopped by for a weekend brunch here with my partner and had a wonderful time. From the moment we walked in, we could feel the energetic and lively setting. The staff was very friendly and got us seated right away. We ordered a few things to share: Chilaquiles Rojos: includes eggs, crema, cotija, pinto beans, guacamole, pickled onions, and cilantro - a very flavorful, classic Mexican breakfast plate. The crispy tortilla pieces balanced out the other components of the dish very nicely. I liked that there was no spiciness. Egg White Scramble: contains swiss chard, brussel sprouts, harissa pesto, shallots, goat cheese, mint, and cilantro - a lighter brunch plate that is still full of flavor. I liked the creaminess from the goat cheese. This is a solid choice if you don't want something heavy. Ultimate Sticky Bun: wasn't planning on ordering this until the server convinced us to, as there are limited quantities made per day. It tasted extremely sweet and decadent. The cold vanilla ice cream tasted amazing when eaten with the warm bun. Definitely felt more like a dessert to be eaten at the end. In addition to seating inside the restaurant, there is some comfortable outdoor seating on their patio. They do accept reservations for any time of the day, so I would recommend making a reservation in advance.

BRUNCH review: Came here for my birthday party and it was fantastic! Love the upscale ambience, presentation and bright light, as well as friendly professional service. The cinnamon roll is indeed a must for the table. 10/10 The other dishes I tried were either savory or sweet, pretty typical upscale brunch fair. I had the fried chicken and pancakes (8/10) which was fairly good. Nothing blew me away per se, (maybe a little unseasoned?) but I think overall it's fairly priced and they have a good selection of coffees, mimosas etc to make your whole group happy. The cold brew with whipped cold foam on top was smooth and delish! Definitely one of my preferred brunch options in SD going forward!

I visited San Diego for the weekend & so many creators on TikTok recommended this spot for brunch. My friend & I showed up mid-morning on Sunday, & thankfully didn't have to wait for a table. I ordered the honeydew lemonade limeade and the fried chicken and pancakes for my entree. I only took a few sips of the limeade. It was made with sparkling water, which the menu didn't mention. I'm not a fan of sparkling water, so it was a no-go for me, though it didn't taste bad. Sparkling water makes me feel like I'm eating pop rocks lol. Anyways, lemongrass can be such an overpowering flavor, but it was balanced with the other flavors in this drink. It was just more reminiscent of pop than lemonade. Before you think "pop???" Listen. I'm from the Midwest. We don't say "soda" this way, lol. The chicken and waffles were good. The pancakes tasted like vanilla & I loved the crispy edges. The main thing I look for in pancakes are crispy edges. They were incredibly filling, so I could only finish one. You will probably leave with leftovers if you order this. The chicken was well seasoned & the chili crisp on top wasn't too spicy. It gave the chicken additional flavor without all the heat. I enjoyed that the chicken was served in bite-size pieces. They use dark meat (my personal favorite because it's so forgiving), so it was super tender. There's both indoor & outdoor seating. The restaurant was clean & service was good. We were greeted pleasantly & our server was also great.

Enjoyed a nice brunch with my partner as we had a brunch reservation. Highly recommended to make a reservation as Trust can get super packed often. Upon arrival, noticed they have quite the modern design. Love that there's a large outdoor area with sizeable indoor seating as well. Very spacious overall and clean. Service is pretty quick, our orders were taken quickly and food came out at a adequate time. Restaurant was quite busy during brunch so props to the speed. We decided on three dishes to share, Chilaquiles Rojos, Egg White Scramble, and the Ultimate Sticky Bun. The Chilaquiles Rojos is filled with Tortilla chips mixed with cotija, guac, cilantros, and two eggs. Portions are huge for this dish, very much a shareable dish. Chips were a good touchup to the sauce, a bit spicy but very enjoyable overall. It's also one of their popular items and I would certainly get this again. The Egg White Scramble is a bit interesting to me. It's very much a seasoned vegetables type dish. Very unique I'd say but it was quite delicious. A savory touch to the dish and complimented the other two dishes well. I didn't enjoy the Brussel sprouts in the dish as to me, it didn't apply much flavor or difference to the dish. Other than that, a decent dish. I was massively impressed with the Ultimate Sticky Bun, a HUGEEE fun dessert to share. From what the staff said, it's limited per day, and is different layout/toppings daily. I can see why it's their most popular item as the flavors are just fabulous. Luckily, the day we dined in, we got a custard type sticky bun, layered with vanilla ice cream, peanut crumbs, and orange slices. It was the perfect dish to conclude the meal, it was something that we've never tasted and we're very glad that we had ordered this dish. Overall, it was a decent brunch experience, star of the show was definitely the ultimate sticky bun, a very fun find and most definitely excited to revisit the next time my partner and I are in the area.

3.5 stars We had reservations and were seated immediately, which was a great start, but unfortunately the service never really followed through. After being seated, our waitress never came by. About 15 minutes later, the manager stopped over, asked if we had any questions about the menu, and ended up taking our order. After the food arrived, no one really checked on us again until near the end of the meal as brunch service was wrapping up. I had the chilaquiles and my husband ordered the burger--both were good, but nothing I'd rave about considering all the hype around the restaurant. The coffee was excellent though and easily the standout of the meal. Overall, the experience just didn't live up to the reputation for us.

We really wanted to like Trust--honestly, it's right there in the name. Customer service was solid, but unfortunately the food just wasn't it for us. I ordered the chilaquiles while my partner went with the "simple breakfast." The chilaquiles sauce leaned way too tangy for my liking; I barely made it through half and didn't bother taking leftovers. My partner's potatoes also missed the mark. Potatoes were definitely not fresh, definitely not crispy (despite the request). Maybe "simple (breakfast)" was a little too on the nose... We were also seated at an outdoor corner table by the steps, which... was unfortunate. A lot of dogs pass through this walkway, and the area smelled strongly of dog pee. Not the restaurant's fault, but it's hard to enjoy breakfast with dog pee scent wafting in the air... Parking in this area is already limited and overpriced, so pairing that with a breakfast we didn't enjoy--and could've gotten elsewhere for cheaper and far better--just didn't help the experience. Overall, we left as two very un-happy campers, lol. It's safe to say we won't be returning for breakfast. Maybe lunch or dinner is another story, but not sure when/if we'll be back. Not every place is going to be a winner in my book, and that's okay. Sorry, Trust!

Are high chairs for babies available during brunch time?

    yes

    Do they have happy hour?

Yes! 5pm-6pm Wednesday thru Sunday at the bar

    Do they wear masks?

    Nope

Are you guys currently doing dine in?

Is there a dress code? Flip flops, shorts, etc allowed?

I don't think there is an official "dress code". If you're going for brunch, then shorts and flip flops would be ok. However I would recommend something nicer than shorts and flip flops for dinner.

    Do they have happy hour?

No Happy Hour ! Morning Brunch are overcrowded !

    Do they have bottomless mimosas?

    No 😕

Would Sunday brunch be kid friendly for well behaved kids?

I've only been there once but they have a big patio for your well behaved kids :)

Is this place better for lunch, dinner or both?

It depends on your budget. Dinner is really good but the plates are tiny. The idea is to get a lot of small plates to share (which I don't like too much). This can be expensive. Brunch is normal portions and great. Just depends on what you prefer.

    Are they dog friendly?

The patio area appears to be dog friendly, yes.

    Are there gluten free options?

There are a number of things on the menu that are gluten free. But if you have any concerns call the restaurant, they may even be able to suggest some substitutions.

It's not the most convenient, but don't let that discourage you. There is metered street parking nearby, including on the side street that forms a "T" with the main road. It wasn't difficult to find a spot, although I do wish the restaurant's sign was a little larger. If you're driving down the main street without GPS--or you're not paying close attention--you could easily drive right past it. This is definitely the type of place where reservations are a good idea, especially if you're looking for a cozy table. We arrived with a party of six, and our table was ready when we got there. We had the perfect setup with a booth on one side and comfortable high-top seating on the other, making it ideal for conversation and sharing plates. I did notice several people walking in and grabbing seats at the bar, so that's also a great option if you're dining solo or as a couple. If you're planning to visit, Wednesday is the day to go because Happy Hour runs all day! Definitely take advantage of it. My husband and I ordered the 8-ounce steak and fries, and wow...it exceeded expectations. The steak was cooked perfectly, incredibly tender, and very simply seasoned with sea salt, allowing the quality of the meat to shine. It was served with a garlic chili aioli that paired beautifully with every bite. Now let's talk about those fries. I know it sounds funny to rave about fries, but they're often either a hit or a miss depending on the restaurant. These? Absolute hit. Crispy, flavorful, and the perfect companion to the steak. Honestly...I'd come back just for the fries. Well...maybe not just for the fries because the lamb meatballs completely stole the show! I expected them to have a stronger gamey flavor, but they were incredibly well prepared. You could immediately tell the chef knew exactly what they were doing. They were served in a rich tomato sauce with Parmesan cheese, and the garlic really brought everything together. Every bite was packed with flavor. We also tried the Brussels sprouts, which were tossed in what tasted like a delicious peanut sauce. The sauce itself was fantastic, and I loved the toppings, but I personally would have preferred the Brussels sprouts to have a little more crisp before being coated. That's purely my preference because the flavor combination was excellent. The mac and cheese was ok, although I wasn't expecting what looked like a light cornflake crumb topping. It added good texture and made for a beautiful presentation but could have used a little salt and more flavor. Happy Hour also includes a nice selection of wine, beer, and even margaritas, so be sure to check out the drink menu while you're there. One of the highlights of our evening was the service. Our server Dalton was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, and incredibly patient. One person in our party had a food allergy, and I really appreciated how seriously he took it. He carefully noted the allergy, communicated it with the kitchen, and checked in several times throughout our meal to make sure everything was perfect. As a longtime Yelper, I believe great service deserves just as much recognition as great food, and tonight's service absolutely elevated the entire dining experience. The ambiance is another reason I'll be back. Books & Records has such a cool, inviting vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. It's one of those hidden gems that locals secretly hope stays under the radar...but sorry, San Diego--the jig is up! Your favorite Yelper is here to shine a light on another amazing spot that's absolutely worth visiting. I'll definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and check them out. And as always...you can thank me later.

The place itself is super cute and has a really fun atmosphere. There are TVs everywhere, making it a great spot to catch a game, and they have a nice craft beer selection. What I ordered: * Chimichurri Sliders ($16) - One of their specials. You get two sliders with no fries, so I'm not sure how much of a "special" it really is. They were decent, but nothing memorable or worth going out of your way for. Overall, I'd definitely come back to grab a beer and watch a game because the vibe is great. Food-wise, though, I found it pretty mediocre for the price. Burgers are around $25 with fries, and the appetizers (or "bites") range from $18-$25.. I was still hungry after the sliders and wanted to order a side of fries, but they don't list sides or prices on the menu, so you have no idea what anything costs. I ended up passing because they only offer steak fries, which just aren't my favorite. One big bonus is that they're dog-friendly, which I always appreciate. If you're looking for a fun place to watch sports, enjoy a beer, and hang out with friends, I'd definitely recommend it. Just don't come expecting the food to be the highlight.

Came here for Mother's Day brunch and, predictably, the place was absolutely buzzing with families!…read moreEven with the holiday crowd, the vibe was great and the energy was high. You can't come to Richard Walker's and not get the Dutch pancake. We went with the Apple Pancake (the fan favorite for a reason) and it was honestly out of this world. It's got that perfect contrast with super fluffy in the middle but with those amazing crispy edges. We also tried the Belgian waffle, which was exactly how it should be: crunchy on the outside and delicious throughout. What really blew me away, though, was the service. Despite it being one of the busiest days of the year, the staff was absolutely superb fast, friendly, and totally on top of it. If you're in Downtown San Diego, this is a must-visit for a solid, convenient breakfast. Highly recommend!

Outside of the peanut oil surprising us, everyone's food was phenomenal! The service was great and we even got to meet Richard himself and he was very sweet. We ordered the thin Swedish pancakes which were yummy especially with the lingonberries! We also got the German Baked Pancake which took ~20 minutes as it said in the menu, so all of the food took that time as well. We got the GF/peanut oil free pancakes and they were still good. The inside was beautiful with the stained glass look and there was tons of outside seating as well. We walked right up on a Thursday morning around 9 AM and got seated instantly.

Thank goodness there was room too, because wow oh wow. It has been three weeks and we keep talking about that happy hour. LOL I appreciated that their happy hour menu wasn't all snackable appetizers; there were smaller-sized dishes for those less hungry, too! I ordered the Kiwilango slider + fries, my mom got the HH fish & chips, and my dad got the wagyu smash slider. Plus $10 beers, of course. Everything came out quickly and beautifully portioned, which made getting dessert (magpie ice cream cake) a no brainer. Delicious!!! I didn't stray into their full Kiwi-based dinner menu, but I can fully vouch for their happy hour, the cozy, charming vibes, kind and attentive servers, and flavorful dishes. Would absolutely recommend and will be coming back next time I'm in town!

They have a deal almost every single night of the week except for Saturday night. They also have happy hour prices. My friend ordered the spaghetti squash and I had a taste and it melted in my mouth good. It was a good size quantity also! I tried my first ever meat pie. I think I like meat pie! The crust was so flaky and the inside was so cheesy and meaty. Melted in my mouth good. If you're in the area I would definitely stop in and give it a try!
