    Lamb skewer

We went here based upon the reviews and it was close to our hotel. The previous reviews are correct. This restaurant is a must do if in San Diego. We had the salmon snd lamb skewer. They both included stir fried veggies, tzatziki, rice, and salad. Portions were more than ample and priced at $28.00 they are very fair. Wine list, while limited, was well stated in the menu. The server, Kevin, was cordial and accommodating. The restaurant was not busy at 4:30 so it was very quiet and the ambiance was new and refreshing. It is an absolute must do if you are in San Diego.

Truva is the new flagship restaurant on the ground level of the Sofia Hotel in downtown SD. It has been open for less than two weeks and features Mediterranean based cuisine in a modernized old-school setting. A copy of the dinner and drink menus was on display at the hostess stand outside on the sidewalk in front of the entrance. Starters, seafood, and sides made up the left column of the food offerings. The other column listed the salads and main dishes. As I walked in, the workers at the central bar greeted me and told me to sit anywhere as there was only one other party seated. I would say the capacity was sufficient for about 50 customers. I started my meal with an order of the Stuffed Grape Leaves (aka dolma). Six pieces of grape leaves were filled with rice, currant, and fresh herbs. The plate was garnished with arugula, sliced grape tomatoes, and a lemon slice. The herbs added extra fragrance to the item. For an entree, I picked the Bodrum Blaze Steak and Fries which was marinated diced beef served over fries with creamy garlic yogurt and tomato sauce. Unfortunately, my server incorrectly placed an order for the Ribeye Steak instead. What I received was a fusion of the two dishes as the contents didn't match either of the descriptions. A chargrilled ribeye cooked medium rare was served with white rice, a cup of french fries, a side salad, and some mushrooms and diced potatoes. There was a lot more food than I had expected, and it was all presented on a wooden board as the serving vessel rather than a plate. I think the kitchen added the fries as a complimentary side because of the mistaken order. That resulted in too much starch with the rice and diced potatoes already on the board. I wish the staff would have checked with me first to perhaps redo the course instead of proceeding with a steak and informing me of the faux pas after the fact. The final cost was also nearly 50 percent higher than my intended entree as there was no discount applied.

I was visiting SD and always love a good breakfast place. I did a quick google search and this was the best decision! The place was very nice, very relaxing and beautiful. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and very good proportions. If I lived in SD I would come as much as I could.

We were in town and wanted to try something different and found this place. We had so much food, from meze board to cabbage rolls - which was our favorite. Loved everything. And this place has one of the nicest interior we've seen. Great staff, great people.

What a fantastic new spot! Incredible food, wonderful presentation and taste, and the wait staff is super attentive, friendly, and makes sure you have everything you want. Lots of vegetarian and gluten-free options.. and the vegan gf cheesecake was AMAZING! Thanks to Laura for her awesomeness!

I was staying in the Sofia Hotel for the weekend and passed the hosts/hostesses standing outside the Truva a few times, so on my way back from dinner one night I asked about their hours. Most days they are open 7am-10:30pm, except Fridays and Saturdays when they're open until 11pm. They told me that this place just opened a couple weeks ago and I have to say, I have a feeling they'll do quite well! The interior is very cute and trendy as well, which allows Truva to keep up amongst the already established eateries in other hotels in the Gaslamp district. For example, I had just eaten at Seneca Trattoria the night before and got lucky by snagging a bar seat. Since Truva is still new, you can expect food just as delicious, servers just as attentive and a great atmosphere with NONE of the wait. I am from San Francisco, so I experience my fair share of hotel restaurants that make a name for themselves as delicious and trendy places to have dinner and drinks in the city. I would definitely say that if Truva existed in San Francisco, I would gladly eat there on the regular. I was served by Paulina and she was extremely helpful and sweet. I met her the night before when I inquired about the restaurant hours and she definitely convinced me to come back the next morning. Since Truva was still in its grand opening period, I was given 10% off my meal. I came during brunch which runs from 7am-2pm, so I ordered the babaganoush to start, a turkish coffee and the shakshuka. First of all, I inquired if I could have the Turkish coffee as a latte since I like my coffee with milk. I knew it might be a difficult request but they were able to accommodate and even asked if I wanted caramel or vanilla in the latte, or whether I wanted it hot or cold. It turned out delicious and sweet, just how I like my coffee. The babaganoush came out very quickly and was delicious. I had just come from working out in the hotel gym prior and I felt good eating this post-workout. As for the shakshuka, it was really yummy but light too! The flavors were great and the whole board was well balanced between the shakshuka and poached eggs, the crispy potatoes and the little side salad. The vegetables were topped with black sesame seeds and it balanced the acidity of the red onions + tomatoes perfectly. Lastly, I added the side of soujouk because I've never tried it before and I usually love seasoned mediterranean meat dishes. The flavor was exactly as I expected it to be. If you're a fan of kabobs (think kofta) then you'll definitely love soujouk. I almost ordered the soujouk and eggs plate but the shakshuka was too hard to resist. If you're not a fan of savory breakfast, they have a whole section for pancakes/waffles and yet another for crepes. The specialties sounded great as well so it was hard to choose. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and The Sofia should be glad that such a tasty restaurant is attached to them. I'm flying all my leftovers with me back to San Francisco tonight. Although Truva is mentioned on the hotel website, if the hotel staff mentioned that the restaurant was brand new and running a promotion, I would have eaten there sooner. But that's just a small, nitpicky observation. It's also a great place for any hotel guests to enjoy mimosas or cocktails - their drink menu looked delicious. I would definitely come back to stay at The Sofia just so I can eat at Truva the next time I find myself in San Diego and staying in the Gaslamp district. I hope to try the dinner menu next time. Best of wishes for Truva's success!

First time here, saw their nutella-licious crepe on yelp and immediately went for Sunday brunch. Staff were all really friendly and wanted to know my thoughts on the food! Wonderful crepe texture, the warm banana slices folded throughout were the perfect touch. Great location, outdoor seating feels separate from the sidewalk and no wait for a table (with it still being new). This place should be known! My crepe was $16, so so filling i could only finish half in one sitting.

Classic Breakfast plate. So delicious! The hash browns were amazing and full of flavor.

Trica had just opened and I am so happy to have found it during our trip here. We went here for brunch, the food was so delicious and really well put together. The service was great and the staff was so friendly. We were seated promptly and had a nice table by the window to see the city view. I loved the charm that this restaurant has and will definitely be coming back to try dinner too. I definitely recommend this as a brunch spot if you want something better than the standard fare.

    BODRUM BLAZE STEAK & FRIES

My favorite new restaurant in downtown! The kabobs were perfectly seasoned, tender and packed with authentic flavor. The steak and fries with creamy garlic yogurt and tomato sauce were so delicious. We also loved the crispy phyllo cheese rolls. The highlight was the knafeh with Turkish ice cream. The combination of warm, crispy pastry, melted cheese, sweet syrup, and the uniquely creamy ice cream made for an unforgettable dessert experience. Great food, warm hospitality, and a beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend for both brunch and dinner!

    Soujouk & Eggs. Good!

Came here for brunch today while staying at the Sofia Hotel. The restaurant connects to the hotel. What a great new place downtown. Excellent atmosphere, food, & service! We had the knafeh, berry dutch baby pancakes, soujouk with eggs, & classic French toast. All were so good!! Oh! They also have an awesome bar with amazing cocktails, draft beers, & a great wine selection too! Highly recommend!

Came in twice this week to check out the brunch and dinner menu. The food is super fresh and plated beautifully. Service was awesome and the decor has a sleek, clean, and peaceful vibe. The best thing on the menu has to be the Ribeye Steak. It has a super savory gravy, the smoothest mashed potatoes, a hefty side salad, and basmati rice. The cocktails are awesome. My favorite is the Burn Baby Burn. It was like a pineapple/cinnamon/jalapeño mezcalrita but with lemon. Well balanced and refreshing. Definitely, will be coming back to try the mimosa flights and the daily fresh purées they feature.

    Sujuk
    Anna B.

Came for brunch, absolutely loved the shakshuka and steak and eggs. Steak was juicy and tender, shakshuka was very authentic, light and fresh. Great stop for healthy Mediterranean food! Both dishes came with a crispy potato pancake that I much preferred to classic roasted diced potatoes. Interior is quite lovely. I tried a beef fermented sausage for the first time called sujuk and it was so delicious and addicting!! Perfect addition to the shakshuka.

This restaurant evidently just opened - and needs to be on your list next time you are in the Gas Lamp District. We happened to be staying in the hotel (the Sofia) where Truva occupies the lobby, and had breakfast. Each member of our party of four was very impressed with the amazing food. The avocado toast, the breakfast potatoes, the gluten free pancakes - all delicious! And our server was very attentive, and paid very close attention to detail. Once the word is out, and more people are dining here, the overall vibe will pick up, but the ambiance is very lovely as it is. We wish you the best Truva!!!

Also, I'm not sure why there's a range of where they may be located on Yelp since this is just a food truck that seems to be permanent at this location.

I'm an Arab myself, and I never go easy on middle eastern cuisine. LOLOL, I hit them hard. I figure I got that coming. Here you'll happily find perfection. Rest assured. The staff is friendly and greeted me right away. They were very attentive and kept my drink topped off without me even having to ask. Now for the food... The food was delicious! I ordered the falafels, spinach fatayer, and a chicken shawarma pizza. The falafels were crispy and fresh, exactly what you want in a falafel. The spinach fatayer was hot, perfectly baked, and huge. The chicken shawarma pizza stole the show out of the appetizers. It had so much flavor, and the cheese was amazing. That cheese stretched like it was in a commercial. I wish I had ordered two! For my entrées, I ordered the lamb and chicken kabobs with a side of fries. This plate was unbelievably tender. The center of the lamb was perfectly cooked with a beautiful pink center, and I love a hot pink center. Makes my mouth water. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the rice. The fries were great, too. I also ordered the chicken shawarma plate and the chicken kabob wrap. The shawarma plate was packed with flavor, and the seasoning was spot on. The rice was cooked to perfection. The wrap was so thick, I wanted to slap it like a big ol' booty. Lastly, the garlic sauce was the real MVP. I wish they bottled it up and sold it because I'd definitely be taking some home. The pita bread was thin, fresh, and cut to the perfect size for wrapping up anything you want. Overall, try this joint because it's dope. The food, the aroma, and the vibe will remind you of simpler times, sitting around the table with family enjoying a big dinner. Or, if you've ever been deployed, it'll remind you of those moments overseas when you miss everything back home, but for a little while, an incredible meal makes everything feel okay. Do yourself a favor and give this joint a try. You won't regret it.
