I needed to go from Kahalui to Waimea and boy was this easy. Small planes, with really nice staff, from counter to pilots. Our flights were easy, quick and fun. You can no longer watch the cockpit on regular flights, but you can watch the take off and landing on these flights, so much FUN. We met our dog in Waimea and came right back to Maui. So simple. The only negative is that our schedule changed several times but nothing that really made a difference for us. I will definitely use them again in the future. So easy to get from island to island without having to go through Oahu.

Way too many ownership changes over the years for one to expect quality to still be in the top 5 company goals. I had multiple reservations/flights cancelled for BS reasons and then customer service was terrible every fricken time I called - no idea where the call center is, but it's crap too. The last time, they didn't even bother to process the refund I had called to request in the first place so I had to call back and burn another 30 minutes on the phone to do it all over again. Wasted more than 5 hours of my life between setting up flights with the transport of an animal between the islands and then having to request refunds because they would cancel the flights 24-36 hours in advance for one of a multitude of reasons which was different depending on who I talked to. First it was an "unscheduled maintenance", then it was "staffing", then it was "regular maintenance with no back up plane planned" and finally "weather related" and "unforeseen circumstances". And each and every time, the flights were cancelled more than 24 hours in advance...what in the actual FFF? Over and over again during the course of a week of flights, they'll happily sell you tickets on flights they just continually (planned to) cancel. STOP SELLING TICKETS if you can't actually supply the flights. Get your sh*t together or close up shop. Don't waste your time booking and just avoid the nightmare.

With that in mind, the lounge was better than expected. It's small but bright with comfortable seating. The staff did a great job with keeping the space clean and replenishing the coffee and snacks. My favorite was the taro chips, so good! Definitely a better option than waiting at the terminals.

Checking in with the receptionist was smooth since it wasn't busy at the time. What I noticed as soon as I entered was the interior was neat and clean. Two separate seating areas at the opposite ends and seating in the middle across from the beverage counter. I had some coffee and a mini bag of snack pretzels. There's also a water dispenser so I was able to fill my water flask bottle. A short time later some taro chips came out. I was expecting them to be stale, but they were surprisingly crisp and tasty. There seemed to be plenty of charging outlets available. Restrooms are located outside of the lounge. All and all I was satisfied with this lounge experience during my two hour stay.

Hawaiian Airlines is the main airline providing inter-island air travel between the major Hawaiian…read moreislands. We've flown them between Oahu to Maui & the Big Island, but have never been to Kauai (yet). On a recent flight from Daniel K. Inouye airport (HNL) to Kahului (OGG), it was a short 100 mile flight taking less than 1/2 hr. You barely get up to cruising altitude, served a prepackaged cup of Passion Fruit/Guava juice and then prep for landing. There is no time in between for snacks. The airfare for inter-island travel is very affordable at a current average of $150 roundtrip. I'll bet that barely covers the fuel plus the juice cup. The planes are the smaller twin engine Boeing 717 (used to be McDonnell-Douglas MD-88) short haul jets that hop back and forth multiple times a day, that they only service them when they land in Oahu. Pro-Tip: Be careful when you open your sealed cup of Passion Fruit/Guava juice because its internal pressure is at sea level while the cabin pressure is at 8000 ft. It will squirt out if you don't open the foil cover slowly to equalize the pressure.

Heres a breakdown of how it works: First, you request a quote through their super easy online system with your desired dates/type of vehicle. I received my quote about 3 days later with the type of vehicle and exact price. After paying my $50 deposit, my reservation was confirmed. I received a reminder text a few days before with info about my rental. The owner requested my flight info to track my flight/ensure the car was ready by the time I reveived my luggage. Right after my flight, I texted Lenka and she immediately replied she was on her way with our rental vehicle. Lenka picked us up curbside at the airport within a few minutes. After being picked up, we drove to the office which was about 5 mins away from the airport. We filled out paperwork for a few minutes and was able to leave with our rental! Lenka was super hospitable and gave us a small lunch bag with fresh fruit. Lenka also gave good local tips. Day of drop off was even simpler. You meet Lenka at the office and she drops you off directly at the terminal. When it came time to pay, it was the same exact price as listed in the quote. Renting with this company made my trip sooo smooth. I have never dealt with a rental company that was as easy to deal with as HRAC. Will definitely use them again. Lenka, thank you so much!!

Kapalua Airport, where do I start. I have loved this place for all of my life, growing up with the…read moreMokulele Airlines and the 'Ohana by Hawaiian aircraft flying overhead after departing and arriving into this airport have been some of the best memories I have ever had. And I must say, although I love this airport more than most things in life, it does not cloud my judgement of the facility whatsoever. I first want to mention that this airport has changed a lot over the years, it used to be quite a bustling place with great connections to neighbor islands on several airlines. The facility was always wonderfully clean and efficient, and the services offered were plentiful, with a full TSA security screening station and the ability for passengers traveling onboard the Hawaiian Airlines service to clear TSA and check bags in Kapalua and then have them checked through to the final destination, with no need to recheck bags or go through security once you arrived in your connecting airport. There was even a snack bar and a car rental on airport property at one point. Never mind indoor restrooms and plenty of literature for tourists arriving looking for things to do. It was a great place. Then, the cuts began. The 'Ohana by Hawaiian service was wonderful, however was abruptly ended and subsequently permanently terminated in 2020, in part due to challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving Kapalua with no mainline airline service. Even Mokulele Airlines has ended many services out of the airport, such as to Kona, Kahului, Lana'i, and Moloka'i, leaving the twice daily flight to Honolulu as the only option for flying out of Kapalua. And now, that service is lacking. As the only service into Kapalua Airport, it runs quite inefficiently, sometimes flight cancellations run for weeks on end with no apparent reasons as to why. And, when flying with Mokulele, which is a wonderful company, you are unable to clear security or check bags to a final destination from Kapalua Airport, instead, you must go through security and check bags at your connecting airport. And now, thanks to the lack of service to the airport, much of it has been vacated. The absence of Hawaiian Airlines on the field has led to the closure of the popular TSA service that allowed passengers to clear security in Kapalua and be good for all of their connecting flights. And, even the snack bar is now gone, leaving no food options in the immediate vicinity of the airport. Even the rental car facility has left. And the only place you can go from this airport is now to Honolulu. And I do want to clarify, none of these cuts are the airports fault, which is why I still rate it five stars. I simply include the history to demonstrate why things are the way they are today. The facility is wonderfully clean, kept up from the marvelous maintenance team. And the staff are all very friendly, always willing to chat or just pass a smile on. It is truly a magical place. And, the airport continues to be of major importance to the West Maui communities, providing an essential cargo hub into the west side, with FedEx Feeder and FedEx Express operating flights into the airport, and serving as a substantial connecting point for the onward ground connections. Kapalua Airport is a wonderful airport, and I am confident that they will find a way to add more services and return it to its former glory once again. Aloha a hui hou, Kapalua Airport.
