Been to Tsukiyo 3x and really enjoyed it the first two times, so much so that I recommended it when my friends and I were deciding where to eat to catch up after having not seen each other for over a year. This will probably be the last time I dine at Tsukiyo due to the bizarre service we received. I did end up calling a manager to discuss what had happened and she was very nice and understanding and apologetic saying that she'll take this incident as an opportunity to train the staff on how to handle these situations better. We arrived at the restaurant around 8:20PM and it was probably 40% full. I saw that there was an open booth for 4 and asked if we could get a booth since we were catching up and wanted to chit chat. The hostess immediately looked uncomfortable and said she would need to ask and went back for a few minutes before returning and beginning to lead us to the available booth. When we were about halfway in the booth already, a waitress from the back goes "Don't seat them there!" and the hostess says "sorry, we have to save it for larger parties". Weird because both the booth and the table were set up for 4 but our party of 3 couldn't be seated at the booth. Why couldn't the hypothetical larger party of 4 sit at the table? Whatever, not the biggest deal in the world; the booth would have just been a preference. When we sat at the table, it was right in line with the opened door to the restaurant and it was super windy to the point where we were getting goosebumps and our hair strands were blowing in the wind. I flagged the same hostess over since she was the nearest worker and asked if we could close the door and her response was "okie.................." as if we were the biggest inconveniences. Then this is where I got annoyed, because not 5 minutes after we got seated at the table, a party of 2 comes in and guess where they get seated. YUP. The 4-person booth that was supposed to be saved for larger parties. I wasn't aware that math had changed and suddenly 2 was greater than 3. And for the rest of our meal, barely any of the staff looked at us besides the nice worker that refilled our waters. It seems like the party of 2 must have been buddies with one of the male servers and they were celebrating a birthday. At no point in our meal did anyone ask us how we were doing so I ended up flagging the male server and telling him about how the booth situation bothered me since we were told it had to be saved for a larger party and he apologized and said that it was actually that that table had been reserved. Had it been reserved, why wouldn't the hostess have said that to us in the first place instead of saying it had to be saved for larger parties?? And for the remainder of the time until they closed, we were literally the largest party in the restaurant. He said he would check to see what happened and then no one got back to us so we left. Yet everyone seemed to have their voices to tell us goodbye. Food is good for the price but this experience was so off putting I wouldn't reccomended anyone I know to come here. We were blatantly lied to and treated as if we were massive inconveniences. If you were going to lie to us, at least say something we couldn't fact-check with our literal eyeballs. I think young workers forget that part of working a service job is making it so customers want to return to spend money at your store. The manager I spoke to was nice but this store seemed to be run by children and you could tell. read more

Saw on a post that this place was under new ownership and went for a Sat lunch. We were able to sit at a booth even though it was just 2 of us. We each had the lunch special. A really good value and quality fish prepared. Came with salad and miso soup. Also ordered agedashi tofu and a salmon roll. The tofu was light and crispy with a good sauce. I used to frequent Dai before the remodel, so I was already a fan but I'm so happy to say it's somehow even better now.
