    miso soy milk udon
    Paulina L.

Shared the plum ramune tomato, kaarage, and miso soymilk udon. Plum ramune tomato was creative and a good dish for the hot weather. The kaarage was one of the better kaarages I've had in a while, juicy and tender with a crispy batter. Paired well with the mayo sauce. Miso soymilk udon has a flavor similar to dan dan noodles, and the udon was a nice chewy and soft texture. Store itself is cute but not great for large groups. Service was fast and prompt.

I went yesterday to TTAN, though I know this place opened about a month ago. Since it's only a block away from me, I decided to try my luck with a walk-in. On a random Thursday night, the wait was about 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't too bad. The staff were all very kind and welcoming. The space itself is on the smaller side, but they manage to fit quite a few people comfortably. The menu is also relatively compact, which actually helped me since I'm super indecisive. I ordered: - Mentaiko Tamagoyaki ($9) - Creamy Shrimp Mentaiko Udon ($21) - TTAN Signature ($38) - Brown Sugar Warabi Mochi ($6) The mentaiko tamagoyaki was really good. I loved the sauce and how neatly everything was presented. The creamy shrimp mentaiko udon was definitely the standout for me. The shrimp were cooked well, and the dish itself was warm, comforting, and tasted incredibly homey. It's something I'd absolutely order again. The TTAN Signature was good too, though the portion was smaller than I expected for the price. Same with the dessert. The brown sugar warabi mochi was definitely smaller than anticipated, but the flavor was delicious. The brown sugar taste weirdly brought me back to childhood memories for some reason. Overall, I'd definitely come back. The location is super convenient for me, the staff are lovely, and the atmosphere makes it an easy neighborhood spot to return to.

TTAN has such a fun retro vibe. The whole space feels playful and nostalgic without trying too hard. From the decor to the little details, it made the dining experience feel extra memorable. Everything we tried was honestly really solid. The mentaiko udon was probably my favorite -- super creamy, smoky, and packed with umami. You can really taste the torching on some of the dishes, which added a nice depth of flavor instead of just feeling gimmicky. The tamago appetizer was simple but so good, especially with that lightly torched smoky finish. The TTAN signature set was also great value for the quality. The fish tasted fresh, the portions were satisfying, and it was a nice way to try a variety of pieces in one order. Definitely one of those spots that's both cute for photos and actually delivers on the food too.

Came for a quick dinner and order two apps and two entrées. Got the mentaiko tamago and braised eggplant to start and the karaage curry and miso soy milk udon for mains. New spot that opened up in the area with a lot of potential. Waiting for the sake machine to be ready and will come back to try the cream udon and their sushi offerings.

I came here with a group of friends to try out some of their food. The waitress was polite and took our order. We got the chilled ponzu Celtuce $8, chilled eggplant $7, shrimp mentaiko udon $21, karraage curry rice $18, and the seafood donburi $23. The presentation was beautiful for all dishes and they all generally tasted good. My personal favorite was the seafood donburi, although the salmon cut was a bit smaller than expected. The restaurant is on the smaller & cozier side, and I do like the concept of the restaurant. Hope to see their drinks expand for alcoholic beverages!

Just found out that this place had opened this week! We went for lunch, and there were limited menu items - no appetizers or additional sides. They were also out of the gyudon when we came an hour opening. The server said that they will be adding more menu items and more stock and was only limited to not overwhelm the staff! Would come back for dinner and when they add more menu items. The food was great, and I loved the sides they provided. The sides came with spinach, egg (tamago), pumpkin, radish, and eggplant. We also got the braised beef tendon and karaage curry rice lunch sets. I wish the amount of food was bigger, but it was still delicious. The restaurant itself was cute. I loved how it was set up with some tables on the side and a communal bar/omakase type set up in the middle.

Not sure if they were having issues for the soft opening but the udon took so much longer than the other mains, everyone else in my group was done eating by the time we got the udon. When it did come, both bowls of udon were pretty overcooked. They did offer us free dessert because of the wait, but the fact that they didn't acknowledge how long the udon was taking until we asked multiple times on the status was tough. I hope they figure out the bumps for the full opening but after waiting for over a half hour for overcooked udon, I was kind of disappointed.

New Japanese place at Long Island City. They have a self serve sake machine and giant pinball wall. I tried sushi, oden, and udon and they are all very good! Definitely will come back.

The wait was around 30 minutes for 4 on at 1:30p on a Sunday. By the time our meal ended, there were several empty tables. Service (4/5): Timing of the dishes was not in sync with the table (not that that bad, just noticeable). Ordering wasn't as smooth as we hoped but all in all corrected (order was wrong but was corrected when we were asked to re-confirm the order). By the time we sat, the food was out within 20 min and then the pancakes came out another 20 min after the first dish. Food (5/5): The food was outstanding! Seriously like everything from the pancakes, ramen, to the lemonade. Lunch special of Tan Tan ramen (special May 2026) and Pork Cha-Shu Bowl. Tan Tan was spectacular and was def better than the bowl. The broth had so much flavor with richness, spice, spicy level, half seasoned egg. The noodles were also a lovely bouncy chew. The pork was pretty standard with about 5 thin slices spread over a soy sauce based sauce. Omurice was very silky. The egg was nice and runny. I liked that the sauce wasn't too ketchup-flavor forward. I enjoyed the rice which had bits of meat which gave it more flavor too. Crème Anglaise Souffle Pancake - my only wish was that there was more of it because it was so good. The cream that was on top was not too heavy and the zest flavors blended surprisingly well. It comes with a little side of fresh fruit. The cake was not overly egg-y in flavor either. Lavender Lemonade - Not too tart and not too sweet. I liked the forward lavender taste.

Dashi Okume sells ... you guessed it ... dashi. They sell several kinds, and you can taste all of them there in the shop before deciding which to take home with you (I tried them all and went home with one bag of vegetable dashi and one bag of sweet shellfish dashi). They also make custom-made dashi. You can choose from around 30 ingredients - dried fish, seaweed, mushrooms, and vegetables. They grind it up and put into individual bags for you. Such a fun idea, but I thought I should try some of their pre-made dashi options before creating mine own. They also sell miso, rice, noodles, rice seasoning, seaweed, tea, and other items. I picked up some Japanese mustard, seaweed, and rice seasoning to take home with my dashi. Beyond being a great shop, they also have a cafe area where they offer a teishoku set meal - you pick your fish, which comes with tea, rice, miso soup, pickles, and sides. They also offer an omakase popup. The shop is beautiful, and the service was very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly return for more shopping but next time I plan to make a meal of it and try their teishoku set.

Simple and satisfying on the food front, for the 2 of us, the cost was about $110. So not a cheap meal, but good food. The vibe though was a little different from what I was expecting. I went in thinking restaurant and what I got was more of a market atmosphere. While you are eating, people are walking around shopping and browsing, and there are products displayed and sold throughout the space. Not exactly my ideal setting for a sit down meal, but it works well enough for a casual weekend afternoon stop. One of the highlights beyond the food were the soup broths and dried flake samples they had available to try at Dashi Okume. We worked our way through most of them and they were genuinely delicious. My wife liked them enough to buy one to use as a miso soup base at home, which says a lot. They also carry items for cats, which was a fun little surprise. As for the place itself, Dashi Okume is located on Norman Avenue and operates as a collective, meaning it is not one single business but rather a shared space where multiple different vendors and businesses come together under one roof. That explains the market within a restaurant feeling. Overall Dashi Okume is a worthwhile stop, especially if you enjoy exploring and sampling along the way. Just go in knowing it is more of a hybrid experience than a traditional sit down meal.

Each set includes miso soup, fresh sashimi of the day, uni topped tofu custard, pickled vegetables, eggplant, pickles, and your main dish. Our favorite has to be the katsu, it's probably the best value item on the menu. The miso cod was also excellent, super buttery and tasty while not being too expensive. Both options are available under $40. I would also recommend just ordering the standard Japanese rice, since it's already very filling as it is and we've never needed any of the rice with additions.
