The service was horrendous. We waited for almost an hour to get our meal. Felt bad for the only two sweet women working the entire restaurant--serving, bussing, cleaning, doing everything. Is management out of their mind? Only two people working the entire space, that's packed to the gills? Unacceptable. The two ladies did best they could. Felt bad. The vibes are pretty and are the only reason people flock to this place. AC was out of control--everyone was shivering and there was nothing that could be done. I don't remember ever being so uncomfortable at a restaurant and wishing for to leave after traveling over an hour one way to dine here. $6 Hot Matcha latte & $6.50 hot rose matcha lattes were probably the highlights of our experience, which is sad. I walked in on Saturday around 1:45 and was told I needed to have a complete party before being seated. 2/3 of us had arrived, and I informed the server that we would place the order, but he reiterated that the complete party would need to present. The French fries came out first and were basically McDonald's fries with a little Parmesan sprinkled on it. Everything looked pretty and instagrammable but at most tasted just okay. The topping was slightly sweet, rich, and had the distinct nutty flavor of chestnut. I also enjoyed the Omurice Omelet, which was filled with bacon fried rice, along with onion, mushroom, and peas. The sauce covering the Omelet was a Demi-glacé, a well seasoned, deeply savory brown sauce. The rice was tasty and wonderfully fluffy with plenty of bold flavor. My husband and brother in law initially brought this restaurant to my attention as they planned a Mother's Day Brunch for me and my sister. This is a very popular spot that's gone semi viral on Tiktok thanks to some foodie influencers who have highlighted their signature dishes. They don't take reservations on the weekends or the Hallmark holidays such as Mother's Day/Father's Day, which I don't think is fair to customers. We're forced to wait outside in outrageously long lines, for hours. You're able to reserve a table during regular weekdays. Mother's Day line was insane, we were waiting for 1.5 hours. There's no area for waiting, you just queue up along the building. You can't leave your name or number with the front either. You're either physically there or you lose your spot. Staff or manager, is not well trained to handle bigger parties. If you have more than 5 people in your party, good luck. The server kept letting everyone that was after us in the line sit at tables that were freeing up, while not saving a table for our bigger party. I get that it's hard to save 2 tables side by side when diners are actively coming and going and chances that two tables near each other clear at the same time is rare, but you should save a table free table if the one next to it appears to also be wrapping up. My brother in law had stop the server before she let another group behind us in. He pointed out that she's not even scoping out where to seat our group, she's just letting groups of two and 4 in because it's easier. We're like 4 adults, 2 teens, and a baby. They also don't have high chairs btw! Not family friendly in the least. In the end, we physically scoped out the diners and tables where we could likely sit and told her which ones and she reluctantly paused letting new diners in so we could have two tables combined. This was really irritating, after having waited so long and then to feel like a nuisance to the staff, having to secure our own seats, left a very bad impression on me. Onto the food, the viral pancakes were hit or miss depending on what you ordered. My personal favorite was the creme anglaise souffle pancake, my husband's favorite was the french toast. The hamburg steak was also delicious with nice crispy thin fries. The blue moon latte was also really tasty! However, serving size was quite small, less than 8oz. I wish they offered a bigger size for this. Matcha pancakes took a very long time to make during Mother's day, it was the last plate to arrive after 15-20 minutes of everyone else's pancakes and was not as delicious as expected. Overall, the interior is super cute, cozy and elegant and I'd come back. However, I really don't recommend if you have more than 4 people or if you try to come during a special holiday. It's really inconvenient due to their reluctance in taking reservations for busier times. Either way, if you want to truly enjoy this restaurant, take some PTO and come midday on a weekday! This place is packed solid pretty often, I just wish and hope they implement a better system of reserving a table when it's busy because it's just severely inconvenient if you're elderly, disabled, or with a baby/ toddler just standing outside in the weather. Both were delicious and I was savoring the salmon ikura bowl for such a long time.The flavor and freshness of the salmon truly wowed me and now I am craving it again as I am typing this down. - VERT FRAIS MATCHA SOUFFLE PANCAKE: If you like white bean paste and matcha and souffle pancakes then this is a must-get! I really like the plating because it has the wow factor. The inside of the pancake was also so fluffy and tasty. My bf didn't care for the white bean paste that much but he did like the pancakes and fruits. - FONDANT AU CHOCOLAT: nothing too crazy to write home about but this a good standard, decadent lava cake. - ROSE MATCHA LATTE: got it because it looked beautiful online but couldn't taste the rose that much and seemed more like a standard matcha latte to me. We were able to walk in on a Friday for lunch. It got busy as we were there, so I was glad that we were able to be seated immediately. We got the ramen and salmon ikura bowl lunch set, the omurice, and the vert frais matcha souffle pancake. The salmon ikura bowl was small but good. The ramen portion was also small but good. The omurice was a good portion and on the sweeter side. The souffle pancake was the most disappointing and undercooked in the center. The interior had a lot of natural lighting and was pretty, but I would say in general everything looked nicer than it tasted. The service was pretty slow and a bit hectic as they were trying to move tables and people around to seat people, and I had to ask for my water to be refilled. read more

Came here for brunch (they don't reservations), but if you come at open they have a good amount of seating available. The interior is very cute, and feels secluded from the rest of LIC, though it does feel a bit cramped in some corners. I tried the matcha soufflé pancakes and omurice, both of which were incredibly delicious. The pancakes were light, and the matcha sauce had an earthy flavor without being too sweet. The omurice portion was also great to share, and a hearty brunch dish. Would definitely return! read more

Given that I was famished when the food finally came, it's possible that everything tasted great because of my hunger. But I wished the food came out a little quicker, especially the souffle pancake -- it was still not out by the time my husband and I finished both of our mains, even though we told our waitress that it could be served with our food. Japanese hamburg steak - 5/5 My husband loves Japanese hamburg steaks, but since I'm not big on meat, having a meat patty drenched in sauce never really appealed to me. We've had this dish several times in various states and countries, but I think Vert Frais' is the best. The hamburg was tender and well seasoned. The microgreens on the side were also great -- it convinced us to get a box of microgreens from Costco, haha. You have the option of getting a bowl of rice to go with it or bread. We went with rice since we're not sure what bread they would've given us, and we weren't trying to go for a hamburger. The fries were a nice shape and reminded me of McDonald's fries. So, if you're not supporting McDonald's right now but craving some fries, come here. Omurice - 4/5 The egg was very silky and coated with a sweety and salty demi glaze sauce. I really liked the inclusion of bacon in the fried rice! However, I feel like there are probably many better omurice dishes out there... I just haven't had it yet. All the ones I've tried so far are roughly like this one, but I feel like there's something missing. Vert frais matcha souffle pancake - 5/5 The best souffle pancake I've had in NYC so far! It's also better than some places in Japan. The pancake was soo soft, the knife seamlessly cut through without any friction. It tasted so fluffy and it was the perfect amount of sweetness. Sadly, it didn't melt in my mouth like my favorite souffle pancake in Harajuku does, but if you were thinking about going to Softbite for souffle pancakes, which is only a few minutes away from Vert Frais, don't! One of my favourite restaurants in the area! The restaurant is really pretty - decorated with flowers and nicely lit. The restaurant is popular for its soufflé pancakes and tends to have long wait times. Other than the soufflé pancakes (which are super soft and not too sweet, but take a while to come out), Vert Frais also has delicious food. I tried the LIC Mazemen ramen during my most recent visit and I loved it! The noodles weren't soggy at all and were really nicely seasoned. I've also tried the Omurice and Ramen in previous visits, and they've never disappointed. The cocktails taste great but you can definitely taste the alcohol. They look really pretty for pictures as well! Honestly I was a little bit disappointed by the matcha tiramisu because it was less intricate than the quality of the rest of the menu. You're very cute place for brunch with small nitpicks. The small fries with parmesan and parsley were delicious. They're thin cut and reminded me of McDonald's fries, which is a compliment. We got the Katsu, don and French toast. The Katsu don was a little soggy for me as the fried coating soaked up the steam, and the rice was a bit soggy for me as well. Things have come full circle, now that Japanese interpretations of American/Western classics have been re-exported back to the states. Anyone who's spent time in Japan will realize that the full canon is on offer here, including Hamburg steaks, omu-rice and soufflé pancakes. The white bean paste matcha pancakes have attracted Instagram's attention, but the flavors were a bit muted, and I would vouch instead for the crème anglaise pancakes. These had a very pleasant subtle aroma from the orange zest, covered in a decadent cream. The LIC transplant brunch crowd is pretty insufferable, but the airy environs make up for it. Brunch is walk-in only so prepare for a bit of a wait. read more
