We came from a very good dentist at our old home in Texas. One that not only allowed parents in the room actually encouraged parents to come back and had comfortable seating for them. Tucson Smiles does allow parents in the back but they act like it is a huge inconvenience and stuck me in a very uncomfortable chair in a tight space behind an xray arm. They gave me a sheet that stated I wasn't to talk to anyone during the visit or be on my phone.. Both dentist were very nice to my kids. They truly seemed to care about their patients and did not want them to be afraid but on several occasions kids could be heard crying from the waiting room. I'd been with our previous dentist for a decade and only hear crying once and it was from a kid that was upset about getting in the chair. That isn't very reassuring when you tell me you prefer if my child goes back for their procedures alone. I had been told before we left our previous dentist that my child had a dark spot on a baby tooth but didn't recommend fixing because it wasn't yet a cavity and was due to fall out in the next year. Tucson smiles recommended filling the area anyway just in case. When I explained I'd rather just wait for areas that were not yet through the top layer for teeth that were already wiggly she got annoyed and wouldn't make eye contact. They do have TV's in the room but they keep the volume on mute which means the kids still have the drill sound. Seems like that would be an advantage to having the sound on. Maybe provide headphones? read more

Took both my kids there for the check ups. they didnt take my both of my insurance plays so I switched dentists. I asked for a copy for the x-rays. i already payed close to 400 , which I payed for during the visit. I was told they could sent the x-rays to the new dentist but to send the SAME information to me would be 42$. absolute crap. They just wanna know where I'm taking my kids to. I would not recommend this dentist. if there policy is to rip me off 42$ over what email the file is sent to. what other fees and policy's would they not tell me/you about. BEWARE..... Drs. Abramian and Hishaw are the best! Thorough and kind. A very different experience from my childhood dentist. Only downside is that since we share them with the rest of Tucson, they are only at each of their offices certain days of the week. read more

My 18 month old daughter and 5 year old son had their 6 month exams. They both did great and loved Dr. Hishaw and her staff. The office is so whimsical and fun and there is plenty to both engage and distract the children. Dr. Hishaw has an excellent rapport with children and both kids responded well to her. We love the special certificate for the baby's first visit. Both children were excited to have their photos taken for the #nocavityclub too. We are looking forward to our next appointment. read more

Appointment was for 2pm. Received three reminder texts that morning and I assumed that they were ready for us. Text message said patients must wait in the car and text them car type and color upon arrival. Arrived at 155pm. They were not ready. Nobody answered the phone. Only a text saying "we will be right with you." We sat there in the car waiting for over 20 min burning gas ($4.75 a gallon) and generating excessive carbon emissions. Had to run the car because it 110F outside that day. Finally someone comes out to get us and we walk in and THERE ARE PEOPLE WAITING IN THE LOBBY. I ask about this and they said the lobby is open and the text messages are incorrect. Very very disappointed at this mis-communication. read more

I take my son here and Dr. Hishaw is AMAZING. She is very thorough, attentive and she has great way with kids and parents. As a matter of fact the entire team is awesome. The office is very colorful and the waiting room is full of toys. After the visit they give the kids these little tokens so they can get a ball out of a machine. My kid looks looks forward to coming here which makes it a REALLY easy trip. read more

I am really, really pleased with this place. They do a great job of putting my kids (8m, 5f) at ease without being silly, and informing them without being condescending or unpleasant. We moved here from a regular dentist after a horrible experience. Dr. Hishaw helped my son move beyond the trauma and fear he had experienced at the dentist. She was so patient. I'm super bothered by "AJs" previous review as I can't even imagine either of the dentists at Tucson Smiles reacting as described... My daughter has been a patient of Tucson Smiles for 4-5 years now and we LOVE it there! In fact, I just took her in today and I have been thinking all day today how great EVERYONE is with the kids! They explain everything they're doing with the child and parent, and they're personable. Rather than diving right in with typical dental tools, they tell the kids they're "counting their teeth" and "making them sparkly." My daughter is very comfortable going to the dentist as a result and I would never go anywhere else! I recommend Tucson Smiles to everyone I know! read more

They did a great job on our son's filling. Laughing gas and anesthesia were expertly applied and the TV on the ceiling kept him from making a peep while Dr. Wilson did her fine work. Waiting room had such nice toys he didn't want to leave either. read more

So so happy with Tucson Smiles. I'm embarrassed to say that my son had a mouthful of cavities. I was concerned because I wanted him to have a positive dental experience and a lifetime of dental health. We came to Tucson Smiles and everything has been fantastic. The front desk was warm and welcoming, the assistants knowlegable and the doctor was gentle and made everyone feel at ease. I thought his second appointment would be harder than the first, but it was actually EASIER! That NEVER happens with this kid. They are professional, caring and conscientious. This was our first visit and they took both of my sons back at the same time which was really nice! And the staff was INCREDIBLE! Both of the girls that took care of them were very patient and so sweet. My one year old is only about 15lbs and cannot sit up on his own but they knew exactly how to take care of him. My three year old loved it and was asking to go back. It's a fun office with lots of things for the kids to play with.We also saw Dr.D they said he is not normally at the swan office but he was wonderful. he let me look over his shoulder while he explained how to keep my kiddos teeth as healthy as possible. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who has children! read more

My daughter has to go back and get MORE teeth extracted in order for her braces to be adjusted. She has already had two and needs at least another three!!! Dr Laila is so good with both of my kids. They have no fear of the dentist. It's amazing to watch her distraction techniques. I wish I had her as my dentist growing up... And even now. I was more nervous than my daughter. It's hard to just be a parent and not a doctor. As a physician who deals with patients all day myself, I don't know how she does it... Managing kids and nervous parents! She and her office staff have made going to the dentist a positive experience for my son who is 7 and on the autism spectrum. I went to Tucson Smiles, because my child had a cavity. I told the dentist during our last visit that I didn't want my child to have novocaine. The dentist assured me they would only use nitrous and if the cavity was deep they would use novocaine (but she said it was unlikely) but would consult with me before using anything. Well, on the day of the filling, I left the room for a couple minutes before the dentist arrived and when I came back they'd just given my child a shot of novocaine. I was pretty upset because it seems like that is something one should discuss with the parent of a three-year old before they make the decision themselves. The dentist was unapologetic and said I'd signed a waiver prior to the procedure that approved the use of novocaine. She also said that it wasn't in the notes her file.The waiver provides does not specifically itemize the use of novocaine and I wasn't aware that they would go beyond laughing gas. What kind of office relies solely on the legal form when administering a procedure like that? She's three years old and they act like it's just a business. The dentist said that it would be more comfortable for the patient, but what about not scaring a 3 year old? I left the room for 2 minutes and I come back to see that they've just decided on their own to give my daughter a shot. They don't even have the decency to wait a couple minutes. Ironically they asked me if they could give her a popsicle. Really? Ask about a popsicle but not a shot? In addition to the above, all I could hear from the waiting room was screaming from the inside and it terrified my daughter. The receptionist finally had the sense to close the door but only after a long period of wails and screams had filled the waiting room. I've also never waited so long for a dentist. We arrived at 7:40 am and we still had to wait over 20 minutes. The last time our appointment was around 10 am and we had to wait for 40 minutes. read more

Love this place. They are efficient, organized, and truly have your child's best interests at heart. My kids actually look forward to going to the dentist. Dr. Hishaw has incredible patient care. She instantly puts children at ease, and is a master at explaining to them - in child-friendly terms - what's going on with their teeth. As a parent, I trust her wholeheartedly and feel as if she treats my children as her own. I also appreciate that rather than just tell me what needs to be done, she tells me why, and explains it to me in non-clinical words! If you decide to go here, you will absolutely not be disappointed. They're great. read more

The group here are usually out going and awesome. Don't know if it had something to do with the holidays, or something that happened in the office. I can usually take both children into the room. Today was a different story. I tried rescheduling appointment so Husband would be home to care for our 12 year old. They never called back to reschedule so I had no choice but take her. They would let her in the room, nor sit in the lobby. Reason stating they had someone in the past come in trying to take children. From their lobby someone is coming in to take children. Not a good reason to tell people. Why even go there then if you have people taking kids from your establishment. Because they had taken her back already I could change the appointment of my youngest. So I told my 12 year old to wait in the car. To the office that seemed ok. Why not just let me change the appointment when someone was available to help me. I use to always recommend this office. Should now say if you don't mind people trying to take your children go here. The Drs are great don't get me wrong, just don't be a single parent or someone new in town without help. Your not the right client's for them. read more
