3/2/25 update: I haven't been here for a long time but I was in the city. Lunch time on a Sunday was wonderful, it wasn't busy. We were fortunate to grab a table for 2. We ordered the regular not large beef noodle soup, popcorn chicken/Taiwanese sausage bento, assam milk tea, and almond milk tea. The milk teas were great, smooth, and delicious. It was my first time trying the beef noodle soup. We got the wide traditional noodles, they had a little chew to it. Broth was savory. Beef was very tender and succulent. Popcorn chicken is always wonderful. It has just the right amount of seasoning and the Taiwanese sausage pairs great with the white rice. Service is always superb, owners are extremely nice.
Greetings! The best places I find are the places I find quite by accident. Recommendations from others are wonderful, recommendations from our daughter are priceless. Enter Tugo Tea House to the chat. A few years ago as the Boba craze was clearing the tower, our daughter asked if we could go get Boba. First I had to ask her to repeat the request then I was even more clueless after she explained what exactly she was looking for... My maiden voyage to Tugo years ago developed into a favorite neighborhood haunt where I cherish the time spent with our daughter. Started just before COVID hit by two California transplants, Tugo Tea House developed serious neighborhood street cred. Husband and wife owners Gerald and Jessica created for their customers a charming oasis that takes you a million miles away their strip mall locale. Fun chalkboard drawings, tasteful decor, and quality furniture set the stage. Their genial nature as hosts set the vibe: Come in be cared for... Remarkably, Tugo could win on their quality boba drinks (Frog Bang every time for me)...but I'm here to tell you that they win on their quality drinks and food! Potstickers are good enough to impress this Chinatown fan. Their chicken nuggets flex with flavor and light crunch satisfaction. Next time I'm there, I'm getting the noodles...They look great! There's something special about Tugo Tea House...and it might simply come down to Gerald and Jessica's commitment to making sure everything is perfect the moment you walk through the door. Food: I followed the Taiwanese group to this restaurant, and the popcorn chicken and noodles pleasantly surprised me. Tastes very different from other Taiwanese restaurant, noodle has stronger flavor, popcorn chicken are crispy and tender. Service: The owner couple was incredibly nice, introducing their food and sharing exciting new ideas for the upcoming menu. Ambiance: Small and cozy--our group of nine nearly filled the place! $25-$30/ea
Great owners, Jessica and Gerald are so kind to everyone. The food there is authentic and you can tell they are passionate about it. Order at the counter or kiosk. Small cafe, so call ahead if you have a large group and want to see if they can accommodate. Locals love this spot. Few menu items and they do it well. Also check out the selection of boba and smoothies. Highly recommend the beef soup and popcorn chicken combos.
Friendly, authentic Taiwanese food made by Taiwanese who still travels to Taiwan. I ordered the braised mince pork rice and the popcorn chicken. If you know Taiwanese, besides boba tea, popcorn chicken is another must! I was told that the reason the chicken is so tender, besides the unique seasoning, they also use juicy tender dark meat. Not to mention it's gluten free. They're not kidding. The chicken is so light and not greasy at all. It's really flavorful and the basil leaves, is the cherry on top!! The only thing that I was sad is they're out of the sausage with sticky rice. I haven't had it for years!! Unfortunately, they are out of the ingredients. The owner makes everything from scratch! She told me that she's not going anywhere anytime soon. Guess I'll have to come back!
We have been hearing about Tugo for a while and finally were in the area to give it a try. The owners are super sweet, kind, and friendly. We tried the basics-- popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup. We asked for thin noodles but got wide noodles instead, which was totally fine because I prefer the thick ones. We only ordered the thin because of kids, but turns out the kids ate the thick ones just fine! The popcorn chicken was light and crunchy, meat was very juicy and tender, but what took it away was the flavoring. The batter was just the perfect blend of sweet and savory and fragrance. The basil was fried to crisp but not burnt and was very delicious. The beef noodle soup is the best we've had. The bok choy's original flavor came through when I unboxed it. The beef was the perfect cut, thickness, tenderness, and was marinated with the flavor I remembered from childhood. The soup base had the exact flavor I was looking for when thinking of Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Many places don't get it right, but they've got it. I have to say, this is probably the best Taiwanese food I've had ever abroad. Their menu focuses on making a few items very well, so it's not a huge selection, but I believe each dish is done extremely well. Definitely gonna try their other dishes and even drinks next time!

Unfortunately, they ran out of the popcorn chicken, which is one of their bestsellers and it was the highly recommended one, so I would definitely need to go back for it. This is a small place, but there are tables if you want to dine in and the owners, Super nice the service was amazing. I ordered the bento, which came with their pork chop and taiwanese sausage and some veggies rice with minced beef. This was so good. I am definitely ordering this again. The porch up or so, crispy, it was so tender and the serving was huge. The Taiwanese sausage I have been looking for that everywhere and so far. This is the only place that has this authentic Taiwanese sausage. So I am definitely coming back to this place.I feel like this is going to be one of my favorite places to go to. I also ordered the lemon honey green tea. But I feel like I like their passion fruit green tea more. So I am definitely need to try more.Because they do have an extensive menu. Happy eating!
TuGo has been a spot that my boyfriend and I would go for Taiwanese popcorn chicken! This time around we ordered the bucket to share. It was a large bucket perfect for 4-5 people! The chicken stayed crispy even after we drove nearly 20 minutes to get home and eat. The service is great! They are family owned and are very nice people. The shop is small so be prepared to come a bit before peak dinner or lunch ours unless you want it for take out. They do have app ordering, an indoor kiosk, or you can order by the front! The shop is great for dates because they have bubble tea as well as some board games in store.
Tugo is a Taiwanese cafe with food and boba. Taiwanese food is a rare sight in the north suburbs. The food is good and the boba is decent. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Beef Noodle Soup: the noodles have such a satisfying texture. The Beef is tender and flavours the soup well. Go early to get this because the run out towards the end of the day! Basil Fried Chicken: the chicken is so crispy and give a satisfying crunch. I love the basil that goes with it. This brings me back to the night markets in Taiwan. Pork Rice Bowl: The tea egg is perfect in this rice bowl. The Taiwanese sausage is so good! I wish pork belly was used instead of pork mince. The meat sadly is a bit dry, but flavours are good. Garlic Tofu: the flavour is great!! Best to eat fresh in the restaurant. Doesn't hold up well in take out.
I wanted a healthy, tasty snack for my sons after school and something a bit more for myself, this small family-owned boba tea house has the most delicious options for every's taste. It's a cozy restaurant with nice seating for dining in. The owner and his wife are such gracious people. I ordered the lunch special of popcorn chicken and rice, Taiwanese beef noodle soup with thin noodles, and boba/jelly drinks to go. They were still preparing my order because I was early so my son and I played a few games of Connect Four (available at the restaurant) while we waited. It was a great way for him to destress from his school day and fun for us to bond. On to the food: The popcorn chicken was juicy and crispy. For the lunch special, there was plenty of chicken & a small side of rice. I liked the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. There was plenty of beef, nice and tender, and full of flavor. It also came with Chinese baby bak choy making it a well rounded dish. It had a nice spicy bite to it, but nothing so overwhelming that it couldn't be enjoyed. I don't normally eat spicy at all and this was just enough to add an extra layer of flavor without the spicy mouth burn. We also ordered a green jasmine milk tea with rainbow jelly, a watermelon flavored drink with rainbow jelly, and a lychee flavored drink with crystal jelly. I was able to customize the sweetness of each drink and the amount of ice. Tugo just may be our special after school snack from time to time on busy days!
Not sure about their food, but the Taro Milk Tea with Tapioca is very watered down. Hardly any flavor. Disappointing as this place has good reviews. Hope their food is good. Few other bubble tea spots around here I would recommend over Tugo.
Tugo is my go to when craving popcorn chicken, and let me tell you.... Once you eat it you'll be craving it too. We came by on Saturday afternoon for lunch and I ordered the popcorn chicken bento with a mango smoothie with mango stars. The owner brought the food to the tables for us and check in on us numbers times to make sure we were okay. We learned more about the business as she shared how long they've been opened, and that she hopes we come back soon. On to the food, the bento box came with rice, vegetables, marinated egg, and a large amount popcorn chicken. The flavors were spot on, and we all cleared our plates! The restaurant isn't very big but they do have a few tables outside for outdoor seating. All in all, I already can't wait for my next snack container of popcorn chicken!
FAMILY OWNED Been there couple times and we have tried lot of their drinks. The service is pretty quick. Unfortunately, this time they did not honor our Yelp coupon which we go from last check-in. This time we ordered Lychee oolong tea with Lychee bursts and Dragonfruit golden tea with Dragonfruit Bursts. We also ordered Popcorn chicken which was very good too

The best Taiwanese food in the Chicago area! Popcorn chicken is legit with the light crispy coating and tender chicken. You can customize the spice level by adding your own togarashi. The deep fried basil leaves just melts in your mouth. I got the beef noodle soup and it was very flavorful with very generous portions of beef shank that is perfectly cooked. My husband got the braised pork bowl which he really enjoyed, and he said the sausage was the best he's ever had. The drink options were vast and one can customize the amount of ice and sweetness level, which I appreciated. So glad we found this gem of a place. We will definitely be back!! read more
New to the area so we were super stoked to see a Taiwanese restaurant. I was craving beef noodle soup so we came here for dinner on a weekday. There were a lot of students getting takeout orders here. There are only a few dine-in tables but you can comfortably sit a group of 4. Service was friendly and attentive. The popcorn chicken was definitely the standout item. Not too spicy, full of flavor, crispy and juicy. My beef noodle soup had flavorful braised beef with a generous portion of food. My only critique was that the soup was too sweet for my taste. I prefer a more savory and spicy soup. Food is on the pricier side, we spent $60 for 2 drinks, 2 entrees and 1 shared appetizer. Doing an updated review of this place and it's just been consistently amazing. So great that you can order online and they love to send you the coupon. Coupons and deals as well via text to your cell phone. This place has been so super consistent that visitors have really enjoyed it. And people who've never even tried Taiwanese popcorn chicken have legitimately loved it and fallen in love with it. I love that the cook behind the scenes is truly Taiwanese and it brings a real hundred percent level of authenticity to everything she touches and makes. I appreciate that completely. This is definitely a go to for me and so super convenient because it's near my house. read more

My husband and I met some friends at Tugo Tea House on a Friday night. This place was very busy. As we entered, there is a kiosk where you can place your order. We ordered beef noodle soup with sliced noodles, braised minced pork noodle bowl, and a tropical smoothie. There are only two cooks to make all of the food and drinks. We waited just shy of a half hour for our food. It's a good thing that the food was good enough to make up for the super long wait. The dishes were very flavorful and not overly spicy. The noodles and vegetables were very fresh. I highly recommend Tugo Tea House for great comfort and snack food. Just be prepared to wait a while for it. read more

Bubble tea and Taiwanese comfort food? I'm in heaven! The menu here offers some of the most well known Taiwanese dishes such as beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken. I was intrigued when I saw they offered "Frog milk" which is very popular in Taiwan. Don't worry, no amphibians were hurt in the making of this tea for the "frog" part is only the appearance of the boba in the drink resembling frog eggs in the drink. Being that I don't think I've seen frog eggs in person though, I'll take them at their word. We ordered some beef noodle soup and a popcorn chicken bento box for the kiddo. I also indulged in the aforementioned frog milk. The gentleman and ladies here were so kind to my toddler. She had the best time here and even got a sneak peek at how to be a bobarista. I would give 5 stars for the service alone. The beef noodle soup was so good! It's the best I've had in a while. The broth was delicious, the beef very tender, and I really enjoyed the noodles. I've never had these type of noodles with beef noodle soup and they worked well with the rest of the ingredients. The popcorn chicken was tender with a crisp outer coating. The bento box itself included a lot of variety and was served in a stainless steel container. The toddler enjoyed her gigantic meal! The drinks were refreshing and I appreciated that the gentleman behind the counter made a special mix-in drink sans tapioca boba for the little one who can't have that type of boba yet (Choking hazard and such). After chatting with him and the chef/lady co-owner it was clear they are passionate about their business and the food they offer. I got to enjoy Tugo Tea House with my friend. I got the Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken bento. This dish was one of the best chicken dishes i have ever had. The food quality was amazing to say the least. The service was great too the owners came around and asked if my friend and I were good and if we needed anything. The ambiance was great as well. I highly recommend this place is anyone wants to try Taiwanese foods! read more

On Sunday morning, we just got the idea of trying out Taiwanese food in north suburb of Chicago. So the restaurant pops up at the top of Yelp recommended list. Drove roughly 20 minutes, we finally spot its entrance among many restaurants. We ordered beef noodle as well as popcorn chicken as they are two most recommended food in the app. Popcorn chicken super juicy and tender, we absolutely love it. Beef noodle soup is good, beef is well cooked and noodle is well prepared. Owner and stuff are friendly and taking care of our feelings. A nice place to dine in if you want a quick treatment of Taiwanese cuisines. read more
My first time here and it did not disappoint! I ordered takeout - a regular size portion of popcorn chicken, the pork chop bento box meal and a regular size portion of the beef noodles. The owner told me the pork chop would take about 15 mins and I was fine with that. He also said there was free water by the entrance if I wanted to have some. He was very friendly and we chatted a bit about the place. His wife also came out and I got to meet her as well. She was really nice and friendly. My plan was to share this entire meal with my parents. I shamelessly ate the entire portion of the popcorn chicken on the drive home. I loved the seasoning and flavor. It was really good. I gave my parents the rest of the meal but I also got to try a bit of each dish. Both dishes were very tasty but the pork chop one stood out more to me. Today was a warm day but I could see the beef noodles hitting the spot when it's a bit chilly out. I would like to try one of their drinks. I love that it's listed on their menu that their milk teas are prepared with non dairy creamer. I hate finishing a review without posting an actual picture of the food (totally forgot!!) but that means I'll just have to go back. And next time, I would totally come back and dine in. read more

Tugo Tea House is one of my go-to's and favorite places to get some food for carryout! They are well know for their popcorn chicken, which is super juicy and flavorful. But the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup is also a hit as well, especially when it's cold outside! The beef in the soup is tender and I love the different noodles because they're unique and allows the broth to stay on there. read more
Due to Covid, TuGo has added an option to order online [https://tugoteahouse.square.site]. Delivery is available via grubhub , doordash and Uber eats and also curbside pick up. You can also go in the store to pick up after you have preordered. ( All orders needs to be preordered) Pre ordering really helps limit customers that are in the store. This is a small cute place for some taiwanese food in a shopping mall! We went for a late lunch and we had the Popcorn chicken 7 oz which was plenty to share as an appetizer! It was really hot(temperature) and crispy! Very tasty and tender! I definitely will go back and order this again! I also ordered the beef noodle soup 24 oz to share! It was pretty good, except the beef was not really soft! I was not used to eating these types of noodles, but it was still very tasty and chewy! The soup was delicious, not too salty at all! Been anticipating trying out Tugo Tea for some time. Especially since our close friends from Chicago purposely make their way out to Tugo for food and drinks. I originally thought this was primarily a boba tea place based on the name, but now in my book, its really a Taiwanese comfort food kind of place. I phoned in my order ahead of time as I was on my way to do a quick pickup. The owner indicated that they encourage that since it does take a bit of time to prepare the food. When I actually got to the restaurant, I can't help but keep ordering more, because I wanted to try absolutely every dish they had. Originally it was the popcorn chicken with fried basil. This is a must get! It's a good sized portion and I thought it's a good value and I really liked the seasoning and the sharp pokey sticks that it's typically served with. I would make the trek just for that dish myself! I also had the minced pork bowl which had some baby bok choy and a tea egg. And I also wanted to try a boxed lunch bento, and they had a special Taiwanese pork chop. And to finish, why not for a brown sugar boba milk. I thought the short grain stickey rice was a bit too wet for my own taste, I always like my rice on the dryer side. The pork chop was a good size and center cut which I liked - since it's easier to eat around the bone. The seasoning was pretty good and if I was able to consume it at the restaurant instead of driving out to a park, I'm sure it would have been crispy too. I liked that the bento had a little bit of everything with it, it had some of the mince pork, bok choy, some awesome sweet-pickled green cabbage, and the tea egg. The mince pork bowl was lacking something...thought the textures were all too similar along with the wet rice. Some fried shallots would have been nice with it I think just to add some crisp and flavor enhancement. But my baby loved it, didn't drop again of rice! My kids loved the dish though as I barely had a couple bites of it myself. I was hoping for some Taiwanese style braised pork belly but they didn't have that. The brown sugar boba milk I thought was just ok. It didn't have any tea taste to it I thought. Then I realised it was actually just milk, brown sugar and boba. It's quite pretty in the cup it comes in though. Thought the drink could have been colder (it was a 90 degree day), and I guess what I really wanted was something more refreshing. But again, my kids barely left me a sip of milk and a handful of boba when I had my taste of it. My kids loved the food. I loved the popcorn chicken. If I went out that direction I know I would start to crave the popcorn chicken again. Glad I had the opportunity to try Tugo. It's located in a location behind the target and a few stores down from the Tony's Fresh Market. Plenty of parking. Owner recommends phoning in the order for carryout during the current situation. Guess he is the business owner and didn't take kindly to my review. A hit piece on Tugo? LOL, I came to eat.. that was my agenda. My attitude? I gave my honest opinion on the food and made an comment about your behavior based on my direct observation of how you treated two other groups of customers while I was waiting for the food. In looking at other reviews, it looks like you have a history of this repeated behavior. Take a good look at yourself and try to correct your issues before you poison your own business through your personality. Underwhelming as I was looking forward from all the "true Taiwanese/best popcorn chicken ever" reviews. ~ Popcorn Chicken $8.95: Chicken was juicy. Breading wasn't crispy and had very minimal seasoning. Came with red powder on the side that didn't add much to the flavor. ~ Beef Noodle Soup Lg $15.95: Asked if they can make it spicy. They said yes. It was not. Soup base is a little too sweet. Noodles didn't travel well (less than 5min drive). Had to throw out 20% due to clumping. Generous portions of the beef and it soaked up the broth well. - Braised Mince Pork Bowl $10.95: this bowl was the biggest disappointment. Looks great but Rice was too wet/mushy and surprisingly there wasn't any flavor with the minced pork. The Asian lady was very nice as she packed up the order to make sure I had all the utensils and condiments. The older white guy should probably soften his tone up a bit. We came here because my friend wanted to try taiwanese popcorn chicken for the first time and this was one of the most highly rated in our area. The chicken was delicious! I was a little skeptical because the chicken looked so pale in photos but it was delightfully crunchy and tasty. Most places that serve taiwanese chicken offer a sweet and sour sauce on the side but this place didn't, however this chicken is so flavorful you don't need it. They did give us a chilli powder on the side but it didn't taste spicy at all to me so I didn't use much. Also had a Mango Milk Tea (didn't realize it would have milk when I first ordered it, thought I was ordering a Mango Green tea) but it was also surprisingly delicious. read more
