I went with a friend on a late Sunday afternoon and had the worst dining experience I have ever had. We were told by the host that it would be an hour-an hour and a half wait for a table outside which we were perfectly fine with. We were sat after only 10 minutes of waiting by the general manager who took our food/drink order. It was obvious that they were very understaffed and only had one server working outside, but management continued to over seat this server. Our experience started to go down hill towards the end, when the server nor the manager had come over to our table in over 40 minutes. I had been sitting with a to go box, ready to pay my tab but were continually ignored. Many of the tables next to us had also been ignored, it was very obvious that the general manager was directing his attention towards the other side of the patio which were predominantly white tables. After being ignored for so long, the couple next to us asked to see the manager who also took forever to make her way over. Once she came over, the couple next to us explained that they felt like they were receiving such bad service as compared to the other side of the patio because of the color of their skin. The manager proceeded to invalidate their experience and used the excuse that they were understaffed to justify the terrible service. She was very condescending and disrespectful in the way she spoke to this couple, and refused to simply apologize for the inconvenience and their very obvious bias. She also tried to blame the hostess for over seating, stating that she was new and did not know how to do her job. This is where my friend and I interrupted and informed her that the hostess was the one who told us the wait would be over an hour because there was only one server. The general manager was the one to blame for over seating, not the host. However, this manager hardly let me get a word in to explain the situation and just continued to make excuses and invalidate the customers. She finally told the couple that she would be happy to give them to go boxes for their food that finally arrived, and they would not have to pay their bill. She disappeared for a while. The couple still had not received their to go boxes and we still had not received our bill. Finally, the server brought us our bill but did not return for another 20 minutes. In that time, a man brought the couple two to go boxes and their bill (mind you, the manager had already told them they would not have to pay). They brought this to the mans attention, and he responded by saying that they would have to pay because the manager was now in the back crying. This was absolutely ridiculous. The couple were very reasonable when they brought their complaint to the manager and not once did they raise their voice or make a claim that was not true. You cannot just tell someone that they do not have to pay and then change your mind and bring out the bill when you were the one in the wrong. I am a server myself and NEVER would my managers speak to a customer the way that this manager did. She was incredibly immature and refused to address the problem and take ownership for their terrible management. I do not blame the staff for this. I blame the management, who very obviously only care about making money at the expense of their staff and customers. Lying and belittling is not a good look. I think all of the customers can agree that we would much rather have waited the hour for a table and receive good service. Again, I am a server at a very high volume restaurant so I understand what it is like to be understaffed and overworked. The key is to have good management who are willing to hold off on seating to allow servers to give better service. Mistakes happen and maybe it was not the intention to show prejudice, but all the manager had to do was recognize their mistake and apologize for the inconvenience. Instead, they gaslighted this couple and told them never to come back. After this experience, however, I would never want to spend my money for mediocre food/drinks and shitty service. read more
