Whitchurch Bistro & Dessert is a little gem. It is where the former crepe restaurant was (and…read morebefore that, the shawarma place), on the southwest side of the train tracks across from the station. It's kind of an odd spot for a restaurant but the food was decent, and it's bright and clean inside- a bit like a diner. They have a separate brunch menu on the weekend which is primarily breakfast items. We ordered the butter chicken poutine and short rib stew for the adults. Thankfully we arrived close enough to the regular menu starting time (I think 2?) so that they were able to prepare the a hamburger and tomato sauce pasta from the kid's menu. Everything was really tasty. The poutine (real cheese curds) and stew both had a bit of a welcome spicy kick to them. The beef rib was so tender and had complex flavours, kind of like an Indian curry (though I'm not sure if it's Indian; perhaps it's Sri Lankan, or another southeast Asian cuisine). The hamburger patty was surprisingly good and actually seemed homemade (as opposed to a generic frozen patty) - and was not over cooked. Overall, this was better than average for what I was expecting. Location is a bit odd but I would come back, or order take out.

My daughter can be pretty picky and wanted to remove nearly every ingredient from her taco and they were co-operative the whole time. And on top of that, all the food was amazing. The manager really went above and beyond to make sure all our various dietary needs were met. He gave my mother samples of nearly everything so she could make an informed decision. Each thing was fabulous.

I have been told that I'm a good planner. It first happened when I was in grade 11. We had a day…read moreoff from school and four of us (all friends) decided to spend the day at the Eaton Centre. I planned where and when we would meet, what part of the Main Street subway station's westbound platform we would meet on, where we'd go for lunch, and more. It wasn't down to the minute, but one of my friends said that it was a good quality to have. I also like the off-the-cuff method. On Wednesdays, during this pandemic, I drive up to Whitchurch-Stouffville to get groceries. Before going into the store, I order takeout. I decided to check out UberEats (I rarely order using this app) to see what was around. I found Plates & Bowls. I noticed a couple of items where you could buy one and get another for free. Naturally, I went for it. I got the following items: - Butter chicken, which comes with rice and your choice of side salad (I went with apple coleslaw) - Chicken kabob paratha (I got another for free) - Aloo paratha (I got another for free) Once I ordered through the app, I went grocery shopping. By the time that I was done, it was perfect to head over to fetch my food. Plates & Bowls is located in the same large plaza as A&W, Winners, Staples, Canadian Tire, and more. It happens to be in a small cluster of businesses away from them. It's next to Thai Villa, which I haven't dropped by in eons, but am thrilled that it's still alive and kicking. There was plenty of parking. I backed into a spot and walked into the eatery. I was greeted by a friendly male staff member as I took photos. I said hi, and then said my name and that I had an UberEats order. My order was ready. He confirmed with a female staff member that my order was complete. She nodded. Yay! I thanked him and walked out. Something different happened to me. An older gentleman saw me come out of the store. He approached me (we both had masks on) and asked what I'd recommend from this place. It was my first visit, so I told him upfront. I did manage to tell him what I had ordered. Without even having my first bite, I suggested getting the butter chicken, because you get it on rice and it comes with a salad. He thanked me. We both wished each other a good evening and I headed to my car and he went inside to order. I'm not sure why he asked me. Maybe that hangry look in my eyes worked? Who knows. I got home and was more than ready to wreck my food. I started off with the chicken kabob paratha. OMG! It's such a simple concept of having morsels of tender tandoori chicken, with sauces and onions, wrapped in a paratha. Delicious! I was so thankful that it was BOGO. I had the second one for breakfast the following day. It tasted even better! I had the aloo paratha. It doesn't have a lot of aloo (potato), which was a bit disappointing. However, it was flavourful with the other spices that were in the paratha that I was not expecting. The butter chicken bowl was a generous size. I actually had the remaining half for dinner the following night. This place does a spin on traditional Indian food, injecting western and middle eastern influences in. The butter chicken was fine the way that it was made. However, I specified getting this shawarma garlicky sauce on the side and it made this dish fantastic! I dipped my aloo paratha in it. I put it on my apple coleslaw. I warded off evil spirits. The garlic game is strong here, which I love. The bowl had basmati rice. It was fluffy and done perfectly. And yes, it was subjected to the awesome garlicky sauce. Let's get to the apple coleslaw. I have been eating a lot of coleslaw within the last year. I never once thought of slicing apples in it. It's the spin that I was talking about. You can also get other salads, such as pesto pasta salad. I enjoyed how crunchy and fresh my coleslaw was. Yummy! This place offers wraps, too. There was a Philly steak wrap, which obviously deviates from the main Indian food vibe. It sounds pretty good that I'd love to give it a try. I had a wonderful experience. I hope that the man whom I suggested getting the butter chicken liked his food, too. I will be back. It's nice seeing so much variety in cuisine in Stouffville, which is another reason why I enjoy dropping by on Wednesdays. (409)

I used a spoon to see what was underneath and I hardly found much. There was a few pieces of chicken, peppers, & onions, (better than the portion of the Lamb Korma).Taste wise, it was not bad. But way overpriced for the amount I got. Lamb Korma $15.50 This was even worse...again looked like soup. Spoon underneath and dished out maybe 8-10 small rock size lamb cubes. Nothing was in it..but raisins, lamb cubes, and a large container of soup as sauce. Taste wise was not bad. But again way overpriced for the amount I got. Samosas $2 for 3 Asked if I wanted sauce. Thought it came with it..but the tamarin chutney cost me $1.25. It wasn't even a chutney...again it was way too liquidy, like flavoured water. There is taste..but it was way too watery. Samosas were not bad. I think I would only come back for these only. Staff was nice, but their food portions needs some improvement.

The service was friendly and the food was served hot and spicy. I like to try new things and often some old classics. I didn't realize that I had order two cream-based dishes that both leveraged curry leaves. The food was good, and the spicing level was perfect, but I didn't like having the shredded curry leaves in my Dahl. The leaves were easier to pick out in the chicken dish. The dishes were quite large and there was a lot of sauce with them for dipping. I don't take rice, or Naan, so there was a lot of sauce left over. It was a very good combination of flavours. They were able to serve me a big choice of gluten free dishes which made it easier to try different things. There was different dishes available from different parts of India, so there was a good selection. I liked it, but next time I will try one dry dish and one dish with sauce instead.

They are on the west…read moreside of town, in the same complex as the UPS - right next to it actually, where the India 360 used to be. They have wings (which for some reason don't show up on their Uber eats page), a bunch of bar-style food (appetizers, burgers, nachos), and also Tamil dishes Iike curries, rotis, and samosas. There is a 'order ahead' button on their website which I tried - they are supposed to call/email to confirm they received my order, but they didn't get it right away and it was getting near the time I wanted to pick it up so I ended up calling to order. I ordered the wing combo #3, which is 3 lbs of wings in 3 flavours, fries and 3 sodas. Wings were a good size (apparently you can get them grilled or baked for +$2), and flavours were great: - salt & pepper: great, evenly spiced, crispy and not breaded - Kansas bbq: sticky and saucy, smoky and sweet - Sri Lankan devil: the spiciest wings they offer - they called me back to check to advise they finish it with spicy fresh green chilies (yes please!). It was a big saucy - super flavourful spices that I couldn't identify - and a slow to creep, lingering heat. Loved it! The Greek salad was good - lots of cucumber, feta, olives (unpitted), and tomato chunks, though it was non-traditional in that it was on a bed of lettuce. I think they forgot the red onion though. I ordered a poutine (still on a hunt for the best poutine in town) - it's pretty big, real cheese curds, darker (but not beefy) gravy which was pretty salty. I'm not a French fry person - these ones were a normal size/thickness. Overall - fine, but not great. I wonder if they would have swapped the fries in the combo for the poutine - I'll have to ask next time as my preference is poutine over fries, even if it's not a great poutine. Finally, I ordered a mutton roll (for $2, why not!) - didn't know what to expect but it turned out to be a delicious spicy mutton and potato mix rolled into a roti and then deep fried. They also threw in some complimentary samosas - deep fried triangles stuffed with potatoes and bright green peas - Indian spices but not particularly spicy as both my toddler and kindergartener devoured them. Not too greasy either. Overall, I'm happy with the experience and would recommend it. The woman at the cash was very friendly, and she even called me back a minute after I'd left to apologize that she'd forgotten to give me the sodas (thankfully I was checking out the new supermarket next door so it wasn't an inconvenience to come back). The only thing is that I found it on the expensive side, but I suppose it is on par with other wing prices in town. I didn't see an option to purchase just wings outside of a combo so I'll have to ask next time.

The staff even checked with a table that was finishing up, and we were led to believe that would be our table. Based on that, we walked around for about 10 minutes as suggested and advise that we will be returning after our 10 minute walk, which they had told us! When we returned, instead of being seated, we were told that that same table, which had someone mentioned they were leaving in 10 minutes, they had given the table to someone else with a reservation. If they had a reservation then why didn't they tell us prior to us walking around? Am I right or is this sketchy? This was never mentioned when we first checked in. If the table was reserved, we should have been told from the beginning instead of being asked to wait n walk around outside. What made the experience even more frustrating was the amount of back-and-forth between the staff and the owner. BLAME GAME! The staff blamed the owner, saying he didn't know there was a reservation, yet we had spoken to both of them. The explanations kept changing, which made the situation feel disorganized and lacking transparency. The issue wasn't that someone had a reservation--it was the poor communication and how the situation was handled. It felt like they were only focused on serving whoever was immediately in front of them rather than honoring what they had already told waiting customers. Our time wasn't respected, and no one took responsibility or offered a sincere apology, nothing meaningful! Especially when we have always been going there we're very loyal to restaurants and adamant about supporting local business. The entire experience left a sour taste. Clear communication and honesty would have made all the difference, but unfortunately, this experience was enough that we won't be returning and no offense, the overpriced dim sum!
