Seeing that this restaurant had a weekday lunch special, I came with a friend to try it out. The interior was lovely, full of color with paintings and artwork, as well as lively, good vibes. Upon being seated, we were presented with a regular menu, so I had to specifically ask for the lunch special one. We were also served tasty, salty, oh so crunchy corn nuts with savory sauces. My friend and I shared the Fried Calamari, which also came with fries! This was a nice surprise. The Fried Calamari was light with a nice crispiness to it. The fries were thick with true potato taste. For my entree, I went with the Lomo Saltado. I really enjoyed this dish, which consisted of sliced steak with red onion, tomato, steak fries, scallions, and mixed in a wonderful, deeply flavorful sauce, along with a side of white rice. The steak was tender, slightly charred, well seasoned, and juicy. The veggies were just the right consistency and added a fresh element. I also tried my friend's Veggie Fried Rice, and this was so tasty! The rice was cooked perfectly, with all the ingredients and spices making for a delightfully flavorful dish. Service was solid. Our waiter was welcoming and everything came out in a timely manner. The Lunch Special was amazing and so affordable! Even the regular menu appears to have reasonable prices. Stopped by Tumi Peruvian and tried the ceviche, a potato dish, and a pisco sour. The ceviche was decent and fresh, but I've had versions with a bit more flavor and seasoning. The potato dish was really good and definitely my favorite part of the meal. The pisco sour was well made and a nice complement to the food. What really stood out was the service,the guys working there were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. We had planned to go to Elephant Ear Thai across the street but since they had no tables available, we ended up at Tumi. We ordered a couple of drinks from their happy hour menu. The place was cute, big screen tv & friendly folk. We placed our order & part of the food arrived (the appetizers my husband had ordered as his main course) but my entree didn't show up for almost 20 minutes! We had tickets for the Lion King Broadway show so I asked about my entree & they told me it was being prepared. Since we were short on time, I talked to the hostess, explained the situation & asked if they could cancel my entree since I had already shared the appetizers with my husband & didn't want to inhale my main course before running out to the show. She was very nice about it. Apologized for the delay (which wasn't really their fault) & offered me a free drink if I came back. I never got to take her up on that offer because we left New York the following day. This was a MIL weekend when hubby's mom came out to visit for some fun-filled days with the fam. We went to see Buena Vista Social Club at the Schoenfeld Theatre I'm Times Square, which was a great performance. Afterwards, we visited Tumi for an early supper. Luckily, the restaurant wasn't packed, so we were able to be seated immediately. We just missed their drag show brunch. They offer one every Saturday during their brunch seating. We started with some dried corn with some sauces. I could eat an entire bag of those crunchy little bites. I ordered their Oaxaca Old Fashion, which was tasty but a bit too sweet IMO. Hubby had a classic jumbo pisco sour and enjoyed it. It was huge. For our meals, my kiddo had their salmon and ate the entire thing. The serving size was quite large. She loves salmon, so this was perfect. We decided not to go with the kids menu. Hubby opted for their tallerines saltado with steak. I tasted it and it was quite salty. His mom chose the Peruvian paella but was unable to finish it because it was such a alrge serving. I had their octopus and asked for white rice instead of potatoes. The meat was not tender at all. It was super chewy, with very little char. I was unhappy with the dish pushed through. A friend suggested this restaurant for after our show but I actually wanted to go somewhere else. As per usually whenever we score Broadway tickets, we head to the city early find parking and randomly pick a restaurant for a pre-show meal and cocktails. In June we happened to walk into Tumi. The restaurant appeared to be newly opened and possibly still working out some of the kinks. With a clean modern design it has a very relax causal feel with simple decor. We started with some HH passion fruit margaritas and chips & guac. For an entrée I decided on Arroz con Pollo (it was presented differently from what I'm accustomed to) and bestie went with Pulpo A La Parrilla (grilled octopus). Both dishes were well seasoned and nicely prepared. I was impressed by the octopus, the flavor was great but the texture was perfect. I wanted to order it but was nervous that it may be overcooked and rubbery and it was not. Overall a good random dining experience. Our server was Andres, he was lovely and offered suggestions when asked. You can tell staff was still trying to find their flow which highlighted some of the inconsistency in communication with each other. Tumi is a newer Peruvian restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. Many Latin American restaurants in midtown are not up to par, but this place is an exception. The quality is just as good as any that I find in Queens. Firstly, the place is super clean with a hip, modern decor. Secondly, the food is authentic. We shared a few dishes and they were all delicious, fresh and with large portions. The Lomo Saltado in particular was exceptionally well done. My only criticism of this place is that the prices are bit higher than the ones you'd find outside of midtown, but that is to be expected with the high rental prices they pay. read more

This is not Peruvian food. The only dish that actually tasted ok was the Lomo Saltado. Stay away from the Ají de Gallina and Fettuccini à la Huancaina. Not Peruvian flavors at all. The complimentary cilantro sauce they served with the canchitas (though I'm sure you're not supposed to eat those together) was great and was pleasant when put into the ceviche and every other dish we ordered. The portion sizes were not small, which was appreciated. The service was attentive. My only gripe that day was that the restaurant had no separation with the outside since all glass doors were open and that street in Hell's Kitchen can get really loud. It was also quite humid that day. I was surprised to see some popular dishes missing in the menu, like huancaina pasta (unless it is a dinner menu?), but they had other similar menus to compensate. I have no idea if the chef is Peruvian or not because they said the owner is Peruvian but I ordered a papa rellena and chicha morada. First the chica Morada tasted like alcohol so I just had to drink water the whole time, second of all the papa rellena wasn't good at all and there are people trying papa rellena for the first time calling it good when it's not done correctly. I didn't even finish the papa rellena so I ordered 2 eggs and even they didn't taste good at all. I'm giving a 1 star because I at least kinda liked the fries from the pollo à la brasa. For a new restaurant, it needs a lot of work. First of all, very similar vibes to Kausa - same owners maybe (art and layout is exactly the same, and maybe the waitress from Kausa got promoted to manager?)? Although Kausa is way better in my opinion from the service to the food. We got seated and ordered a half pitcher of the morada. The waiter looked at us and goes "2 half pitchers." We had to clarify 3 times that we wanted 1 half pitcher with 2 glasses. I then proceeded to tell him that we wanted the palta rellena to start, and that I was having the camarón tumi and my friend was having the arroz con pollo. He walks away and then comes back asking what were the dishes again, and if we ordered pulpo? First of all, if you are not used tot he menu or taking orders, please write our order down. Once again, I clarified what we were having and he did not write it down either. I then noticed him asking for the manager for help. As time passed, I thought maybe he forgot to put in our appetizer. But shortly thereafter our entrees came out at the same time as our appetizer. The palta rellena is not at all what i expected, but it was good... it was like a cold chicken salad on top of half an avocado, on top of mashed potatoes - overall a cold dish in general. My shrimp dish was actually not bad, but my friend did not enjoy her chicken and rice at all. Keep in mind, this restaurant has no meat on the menu at all. If i had known this new restaurant in Hell's Kitchen was a sister of Kausa's, we would have never came here and would have just went to Kausa. Will we come back? No. read more

I got off the Atlantic City bus closer than usual drop off so I had the pleasure of dining at this Peruvian restaurant right in front of the stop. I cannot recommend it enough! From the moment I walked in, the service was outstanding--immediate attention from the gracious servers made me feel truly welcomed. This place is a Happy Hour scam with TERRIBLE customer service. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. It looks great on the outside but rotten customer service. They lied multiple times and tried to gaslight me into the time of my arrival and drink order. I arrived at 6:35 for the advertised Happy Hour Special. The new, kind bartender was busy making drinks so another server came and took my order for me. I ordered my first drink within a few minutes along with the shrimp empanadas which were good. Around 6:50, i ordered my second drink. He prepared it and gave it to me at 6:58. Another guest walked in at that time and I recommended he quickly order before 7 and he asked for the frozen margarita which was made within 30 seconds because it comes from a machine. Fast forward to asking for my check. Someone else mistakenly paid for it on my behalf and I realized the bill for x2 $7 drinks, $11 appetizer and $5 tip was $49 !! When i asked, the server became confrontational/aggressive and tried convincing me I arrived at the bar well after 7pm. My receipt literally shows what time the order was placed. He also said his female manager was watching him through the camera at all times and he would get in trouble for refunding me the cost of the second drink or providing me with two more of the same drink. After disappearing to "talk" to this unavailable manager for 15 seconds, he comes back and tells me they cant refund because the standard happy drink is served in a different glass with a different amount of alcohol apparently. The bartender then proceeded to eat in front of me!!!! (Crackers) ... My ceviche came out as a super small portion of tuna over an avocado with cheap ritz crackers! LOL Not worth 20 dollars. After I told him I needed to find somewhere else with WiFi he then decided to look around to see if he could maybe find a password??? I said don't worry I just want the check.
